  3. After a streak of more disappointments than wins plus some heavy restructuring, Marvel Studios is returning to San Diego Comic-****'s Hall H this summer. Deadline shared the news, teasing the House of M wants to go big in late July (SDCC runs from July 25 to 28 this year) to let everyone know 2025 could be its big comeback year. Right now, the company is still reeling from Secret Invasion's crushingly terrible reviews and The Marvels' historically low box office performance. That said, 2023 also brought in some remarkable wins in the shape of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Loki's second (and final) season. Not everything is lost, but everyone seems to agree that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been bleeding for a while now, and it might just be a matter of Marvel Studios spreading itself too thin over far too many movies and TV shows. 4. Competitor regristration for Evo - the world's biggest fighting game tournament - has concluded. With its closure, the tournament's organisers have revealed that it's surpassed 10,000 unique competitors, making it the largest video game tournament in history. This figure also does not include non-competitor ticket sales, which will remain available until the tournament's start in July. This news was posted on social media and was paired alongside a blog post on the official Evo website. The post elaborates that the tournament has also broken several game-specific records, including Tekken 8, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, Street Fighter 3: Third Strike. Exact figures will be released in the near future. To help accomodate this, the tournament will be held in a larger venue that last year, the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Centre. Over 10,000 entrants is a wild milestone, especially when you consider that it means that roughly 5,000 people will enter a bracket and lose 0-2 in pools - then being left to wander the casinos distraught, broke, and free. Nonetheless these are 10,000 people paying a significant amount of money to support an esports tournament, while other scenes struggle to tempt fans into throwing a few dollars towards a team's jersey . 6. Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree DLC might have just gotten a bit of balancing designed to help make it just a little bit less tough, but prior to that, director Hidetaka Miyazaki had been pretty steadfast in saying that lowering the game's difficulty wouldn't be an ideal move. However, contrary to what you might expect, it sounds like the developer's not taking that stance because he's one of the many uber-skilled folks who've thoroughly mastered battling through tough bosses. If you've missed it, in between pausing to gawk at the likes of someone beating Messmer on a dance pad, the FromSoft community's spent a lot of time debating whether Shadow of the Erdtree's initial difficulty pushed things a little bit too far. With all the arguments you'd expect populating both sides, it's interesting to see Miyazaki revealing that he's very much in the camp of folks generally on the ER struggle bus. In an interview with The Guardian, Miyazaki touched on his own playing habits, revealing: "Leading up to the release of any game, I’ll be very hands-on playing it and getting as much time on it as much as possible, but after the release, I tend to not want to touch it, because I know I’m going to either find things that I left on the table or issues that will bug me." 7. Steam is making it easier for skilled and unskilled Elden Ring players to show off their moments of triumph with a new recording feature that makes it easier than ever to capture gameplay. While there are plenty of programs floating around the internet that allow users to record their playtime and share their footage online, having such a system baked directly into Steam is no doubt the easiest route for many. Many capture programs can be finicky in their **********, resulting in more headaches than they're really worth. View the full article
  8. Palworld’s Sakurajima update added a bunch of new weapons into the game, and the most powerful is the Meteor Launcher—which we’ll tell you how to get. With a base ******* of 2,000, the Meteor Launcher in Palworld is the best ******* you can get your hands on until unlocking the Laser Rifle, Grenade Launcher, and Guided Missile Launcher in the endgame, but it’s not the easiest ******* to get your hands on. 10. Popular monster-enslaving sim Palworld has a big new update, which introduces the game's long-promised PvP multiplayer Arena together with a new island, new Pals, new Pal skills, a new Raid, new buildings and construction options, new open world activities and items - new everything, basically. The island is Sakurajima, a place of pink blossoms and red Tori gates which is ruled by the Moonflower faction from the security of their tower HQ. As for the Arena, where players can have their Pals duel for supremacy, you'll find it in the Dessicated Desert. Catch a glimpse of all the wanton Pokenot ****** in the below trailer. 13. Let Me Solo Her - Elden Ring's most famous player - grew a legendary reputation for offering his services to desperate players struggling to beat Malenia, Blade of Miquella in the base game. With Shadow of the Erdtree's release, they've packed up camp and set up shop in front of a new foe. Messmer, the DLC's poster-child, has been causing issues for numerous players looking to progress through the challenging new content. As such, Let Me Solo Her has announced their new venture on social media and YouTube, letting players sit back and relax as they take on Messmer one-on-one. This premiere video for the DLC, titled "Let me solo him" shows our titular hero take on Messmer with the distinct **** head and dual swords. They make short work of Messmer, and leave their client a happy customer. It's unclear how long they'll stay at Messmer's door, but for the time being, those having issues might want to hit them up. 15. Parrying is an effective defensive strategy in Elden Ring, especially if you have fast reflexes. There are a few different Parry skills you can use, but Golden Parry is by far my favorite. Keep reading to find out how to get Golden Parry in Elden Ring. Golden Parry Ash of War location in Elden Ring Golden Parry location in Altus Plateau. 16. Parrying is a staple in FromSoftware games, from Dark Souls to Sekiro, and Elden Ring continues the trend. It’s a high-risk, high-reward strategy that really pays off if you can nail the timing. Keep reading to find out how to Parry in Elden Ring. Parrying in Elden Ring, explained The Rift Shield is an excellent starting shield that can Parry. 17. Live service games such as The First Descendant - a Warframe-ish co-op looter shooter coming next month - can often suffer from a chronic case of numbers-itis, a tragic and goopy ******** that stagnates game feel, letting raw and tasteless maths multiply and overwhelm what I, in all my critical wisdom, call “fun button pushy.” Developer NEXON Games were kind enough to answer a few of my questions recently, and most of all, I wanted to know how they’d immunised their endgame against this ********** ailment. The aim, NEXON tell me, is in motivating players to try out different approaches to combat rather than relying on flat progression. Read more View the full article
  18. Hades 2's third early access patch is of the gargantuan variety. It improves Olympian Boons, adds lots of new UI icons, reworking Keepsakes, and basically touches every aspect of the game you could possibly think of. One thing it doesn't change is how ***** the gods are, but because they're so ***** anyway, I don't think that's an issue moving forwards. Read more View the full article
  19. Many Destiny 2 players are missing out on loot in the new Breach Executable seasonal activity because their teammates rush through it without collecting samples that grant bonus rewards. It’s frustrating, but Bungie is improving the experience with multiple changes. On June 26, Bungie revealed multiple improvements to address the frustrating elements of Breach Executable coming to Destiny 2 next week. One of the biggest annoyances in this activity is players can pull the rest of the team into the next combat encounter, forcing them to skip the sample collection. Bungie is increasing the delay before joining allies and making the Radiolite sample extraction instant. View the full article
  20. Last year, we learned that Capcom and Legendary Pictures had teamed up to develop a new live-action Street Fighter movie, and Talk to Me directors Danny and Michael Philippou were promptly attached to it. Now, the filmmakers have just departed the project due to scheduling issues, but that isn't stopping distributor Sony Pictures from setting a tentative release date anyway. The news dropped on June 27 through an official update sent to sites such as IGN that confirmed the movie is coming to theaters (at least in the US) on March 20, 2026. While this may indicate the movie is moving full steam ahead regardless of the recent creative shakeup, should we get even remotely excited without a director or even a writer officially on board? Legendary Pictures is currently on a roll, with both Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire among the best performers of 2024 so far at the box office, and resonating with critics and mainstream audiences alike. It's also important to highlight it's the studio behind some of most decent big-screen video game adaptations we've received so far: Duncan Jones' Warcraft and the highly charming Pokémon: Detective Pikachu movie. With video games 100% set now as Hollywood's next gigantic obsession when it comes to franchise-building, can the new Street Fighter hope to capture some of that energy and improve upon those results? 21. Breeding in Palworld is a great way to bolster your collection and maximize the strength of your Pals, but obtaining a specific Pal, like Selyne, has select requirements. 23. Make sure you're sitting down. Ok, here we go. Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree boss Messmer's just been beaten by a streamer on a dance pad. Yep. It was inevitable, and it's just as glorious to watch as you'd hope. Since you might have forgotten about it as your head's filled up with all the DLC difficulty discourse that's been going on since Shadow of the Erdtree dropped, Elden Ring's got a rich history when it comes to people beating bosses on dance pads. MissMikkaa's probably the creator most famous for it, having beaten the entire base game - including Malenia - while dancing their socks off. This time, however, Luality is the handle of the streamer delivering a masterclass in *******-dodge shape cutting, having used it to best Messmer the Impaler in a matter of minutes without help from any summons. Seriously, they even found time to hug their **** bunny, named Boo, while waiting for the boss to take on the base serpent form that marks his second phase, later dedicating the ***** to the emotional support the furry fella provided during that time. 25. ‘Pokémon with guns’ crafting and survival game Palworld has its first major update since its record-breaking launch in January, adding a new island, new Pals, and much more. Steam version 0.3.1 and Xbox version 0.3.1 are both out now. The patch brings with it the Sakurajima update; Sakurajima is the new island where players can take control of a tower protected by a new faction called The Moonflowers. The island is home to many new Pals. There’s multiplayer-exclusive content, too, in the form of an area in the Desiccated Desert. An oil rig controlled by the Rayne Syndicate is now in the ocean (here you work together with friends to defeat powerful enemies and claim resources such as crude oil). You can extract crude oil by unlocking and placing a new building, the cruise oil extractor, in certain spots around the world. The new material, Plasteel, can be made from crude oil. This is used to craft new high-tier equipment and spheres. Meanwhile, the level cap is raised to 55, with new technologies available and a new upper limit for Pal’s capture bonus (10 to 12). The new raid, Blazamut Ryu, features the strongest Dragon Pal in the game. There’s a tease for a meteorite event: “Meteorites or supplies will fall from space sometimes!” Palworld developer Pocketpair said in the patch notes, below. “There may even be an unknown Pal from outer space too...!?” There’s loads more to the Sakurajima update, including new items, new weapons, a new merchant, Tower Boss hard mode, new cosmetics including for Pals, new buildings, a new lockpicking feature, and many improvements and tweaks. The building system is reworked and improved so basic construction should now be “much more intuitive and smooth,” Pocketpair said. Of note: the Xbox version of Palworld now has dedicated servers, one of the big points of difference between the game on Microsoft’s console and Steam. However, there is currently no crossplay, which means Xbox and PC players cannot play together. Hopefully this is a feature added further down the line. Palworld launched in early access form in January 2024 on PC via Steam and on Xbox as a day-one Game Pass title. It saw enormous popularity overnight, becoming one of the biggest game launches of all time. But it’s also one of the most controversial. Developer Pocketpair has said its staff has received ****** threats amid the Pokémon "rip-off" claims, which it has denied. Soon after Palworld’s launch Nintendo moved quickly to remove an eye-catching Pokémon mod, then The Pokemon Company issued a statement, saying: "We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to Pokémon." At the time, IGN asked lawyers whether Nintendo could successfully sue. Pocketpair recently insisted it has yet to hear anything from either Nintendo or The Pokemon Company. It has also teased Palworld on PlayStation. Palworld update 0.3.1 patch notes: ▼New Content ・New Island - Sakurajima ⤷ A new island has appeared!
