  1. Scopely has brought back a double Bank Heist point Monopoly GO Leaderboard event through Genius Fair, a 35-milestone tournament that will run from Aug. 21 to 23. The space between main events continues as the two-day Genius Fair Monopoly GO event drops in alongside Tycoon Academy. Based on early rewards, it was suspected a new Tycoon Racing event was dropping. That may still happen, but not until at least Aug. 23. Instead, Scopely is giving players a chance to restock resources, and what better way to accomplish that than with a double Bank Heist point reward event like Genius Fair. All data-mined early rewards for the Monopoly GO event are subject to change at launch. View the full article

  4. If there are two things Americans are stereotypically known for, it’s football and freedom. And among the most popular video games of the year, these two aspects are reflected perfectly with College Football 25 surpassing Helldivers 2 to become America’s best-selling game of 2024. According to Circana’s Mat Piscatella, College Football 25 blew past Helldivers 2 this month, along with other popular titles like Modern Warfare 3 and Dragon’s Dogma 2, to become the biggest release the U.S. has seen so far this year. Piscatella even said the football title had “exceeded expectations,” which were already set at a high mark. View the full article

  8. Inzoi, The Sims competitor from PUBG developer Krafton, is drawing in a lot of new fans through its character creator demo, which shows off its ultra realistic graphics. Krafton has deployed the same strategy as the likes of Dragon's Dogma 2 and others by releasing the character creator portion of its game early. The Inzoi: Character Studio currently available on Steam will only be there for a few days, however, until August 25 at 9pm Pacific. The full version of Inzoi is expected in late 2024 and is described as "a life simulation game where players become gods within the game, allowing them to change everything as they wish and experience endless new stories in various forms of life." This already had fans of The Sims turning their heads, but the character creator demo seems to have pulled their attention altogether. The Sims 4 is almost a decade old itself, but beyond that has been criticized for only including basic features and charging users for myriad expansion packs. "I'm not looking back," said slickkpanther on Reddit. "All I've ever wanted in a life-sim was to walk around in a nice city, look pretty, maybe grab a coffee, read a book and plant some flowers. "It sounds like a lot, but it's really not. I'm not asking for every building to be enterable. I'm not asking for hundreds of unique NPCs on screen. I'm not even asking for a realistic weather system. What I want only sounds like a lot, because the bar has been set so low by The Sims 4." Myriad others agreed. "All life sim fans should feel the way you do," said one user in the comments. "Because, at a minimum, if Inzoi were to be successful, this would likely put pressure on EA to do better. Lack of competition has allowed EA to underdeliver with The Sims 4 and monetize the ***** out of everything. It's easy for them to exploit fans, when the fans have no better options to turn to." These comments come despite Inzoi being in its infancy, and Krafton certainly appears to have big plans for the game. "Our goal with Inzoi is to create a world where creativity knows no bounds, and where every choice leads to new and unexpected experiences," said director and producer Hyungjun Kim. "We want players to enjoy not only the joy of crafting their ideal lives but also the thrill of navigating a dynamic, evolving world." It's saying a lot of right things for life simulator fans too, including that mod support will be available on day one and Inzoi will be supported after launch too. Many still have reservations, of course, seemingly because the genre hasn't had much care and attention in recent years, but even those with doubts appear quietly optimistic. "I'm excited for this game but I have my worries," said Old-Cobbler402. "First of all, I think that the game looks beautiful but some visual aspects regarding the Zois are worrying me. Some may be due to the game not being finished yet." They pointed out a difference in visuals between the character creator and the live mode, which essentially emulates what actual gameplay will look like. Some other visual bugs exist too, but fans are hoping these get ironed out ahead of Inzoi's launch. Only time will tell how this will look though. Krafton only announced Inzoi in November 2023 and the release of the character creator indicates development is progressing smoothly, but late 2024 is getting closer and closer so a release date announcement should be due soon. 9. The original Dying Light’s story ended with protagonist Kyle Crane suffering a ********** fate; either blasted to atoms by a nuclear ***** or twisted into an infected. But that, it turns out, wasn’t the end of his story. Techland’s new entry in the series, Dying Light: The ******, appears to lock in the latter of those endings as canon, revealing Crane was held captive for 13 years, subjected to experiments by a villain known only as The Baron. Now free, Crane seeks revenge for the trials and tortures that have turned him into the titular ******. But, if what I’ve seen of this new Dying Light is representative of the entire game, it’s not the ****** powers that change the game – it’s the guns. Dying Light: The ****** began life as DLC for Dying Light 2, but developer Techland changed course after some of its work was leaked. The project bloomed into a full, standalone game (although if you did buy Dying Light 2’s ultimate edition you get The ****** for free - Techland promised DLC and intends to fulfil that promise). Perhaps because of this origin, The ****** feels very familiar. Much of what I saw in the 45-minute hands-off demo was very much a continuation of the 2022 zombie smasher, from the robust parkour, to the world design, to the ‘follow the yellow cable’ puzzles that activate UV-protected safe houses. This certainly doesn’t seem like a ‘full’ sequel, but there does appear to be enough fresh ideas to justify its transition to a standalone game. The new map is more rural, with something of a ‘village’ feel. Yes, there are still buildings and rooftops to leap and vault across, but these are surrounded by dense woodland. The demo showed Kyle creeping through tall grass in an effort to avoid nighttime horrors (which, once again, are much stronger than the zombies that appear during the day). Kyle notably doesn’t seem to suffer from the same infection Adien did in DL2 - there’s no immunity gauge ticking down on the HUD – so he can seemingly stay out in the dark as long as he wants. His own mutations mean he can see the illuminated skeletons of approaching foes, Batman: Arkham detective vision-style, which should aid with stealth encounters. In ****** mode Kyle can perform a ground pound that sends damaging ripples through the concrete. The most significant new idea, though, is a more prominent use of guns. If you’ve played Dying Light 2 with its recent Firearms update then you already know a little of what to expect – the *******, shotgun, and ******** rifle featured in this demo were all the same as those added to DL2 earlier this year. But they seem key to the experience here, not just a powerful accessory. The Baron’s henchmen are all paramilitary types with body armour and rifles of their own. That means combat encounters with them are very, very different from the melee scraps with zombies and raiders that Dying Light has previously almost exclusively survived on. The Techland employee playing the demo for us used grenades to flush out entrenched gunmen and flanking tactics to snipe others. These encounters were lengthy, too; Kyle seems able to carry more than enough ammunition to chew through multiple squadrons. Techland’s franchise director, Tymon Smektala, emphasised that Dying Light hasn’t been turned into a shooter. But I’d estimate nearly half the demo was played as an FPS. I don’t think that’s a bad thing, though, provided the combat encounters, associated level design, and ******* feedback all prove successful. It’s a smart way to provide a new spin on Dying Light’s otherwise largely unchanged formula. Not being able to play myself means I can’t say how good all this actually is, but it at least looked like a competent shooter – hardly Call of Duty, but solid enough. The search for The Baron led Kyle into an underground lab where some kind of huge creature had torn its way out of a cage. A scientist there revealed it could be lured by a special gas, and so a cylinder of it was loaded onto a flatbed truck and driven to a junkyard. Yes, driving returns from Dying Light: The Following, although the truck doesn’t look quite as fun as the expansion’s buggy. Still, being able to hit and run zombies looks as enjoyable as ever, as their undead bodies burst and splatter against the ***********. Releasing the gas in the junkyard summoned the Behemoth, a hulk-like freak with an inflated health bar and the strength to hurl cars. Firearms were effective at whittling that HP down, but when ammunition ran dry it quickly became clear that melee weapons wouldn’t cut it. And so, with just a few minutes of the demo left, Kyle let the titular ****** out of its cage. In ****** mode Kyle becomes stronger and faster. He can pick up stone blocks and hurl them at enemies, as well as perform a ground pound that sends damaging ripples through the concrete, Hulk style. Easily tearing through the Behemoth’s remaining health, the battle concluded with Kyle ripping the monster’s head from its shoulders in a gory victory move. Safe to say ****** mode looks very powerful, but also quite similar to the infected powers Aiden had in Dying Light 2. Unlike Aiden, though, it seems like Kyle can transform into the ****** freely rather than only at specific story moments. I’m surprised that Techland left the titular power to the very end of the demo. It meant there was little room to properly explore why the ****** is so central to the game, so much so that I do wonder if it actually is as important as the title suggests. Instead, I left more interested in how guns and soldier enemies will change the overall rhythm of Dying Light. Hopefully they’ve been smartly woven into the campaign and feel fully integrated rather than awkwardly tacked on. If so, The ****** could well prove a worthy standalone game rather than just a respectable DLC sold separately. Matt Purslow is IGN's Senior Features Editor. View the full article

  14. I've never really understood the charm of ultrawide monitors. I dare boldly to maintain that there is such a thing as Too Wide, a point beyond which the extra visual estate becomes a waste of electricity, unless you watch the screen in pairs. I can only assume people who use ultrawide monitors live in constant ******* of flanking manoeuvres and demand the maximum amount of peripheral vision. Mind you, I tend to play games with my nose about 10 centimetres from the screen. Forget being flanked - it's the prospect of snipers up ahead I'm worried about. If you're among the people who fret excessively about flankers, I've got great news from Uncle BioWare. Forthcoming RPG Dragon Age: The Veilguard will support 21:9 ultrawide monitors. The ultrawide functionality extends to cinematics - you can disable "cinematic aspect ratios" to switch off the ****** bars that otherwise hem in the view. It's one of several PC-specific flourishes they've just blogged about. Have a look. Read more View the full article

  23. When is the Borderlands 4 release date? The Borderlands series dates back to 2009, when the first game was released to PC and consoles. 24. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is now confirmed to be arriving on PS5 in spring 2025, not long after it initially releases later this year as a timed exclusive. That was set in stone - following plenty of reports and rumours - during yesterday's Gamescom Opening Night Live, and now Xbox boss Phil Spencer's said some thing about what went into the decision to bring the game to Sony's consoles. Obviously, this is all a part of Xbox's ongoing plans to do more multiplatform things, as outlined in that podcast earlier this year, with Grounded, Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush, and Pentiment, having all been brought to fresh platforms so far. During one of Microsoft's Gamescom 2024 livestreams, Spencer was asked about the whole Jones on PS5 thing. Acknowledging that those four games outlined above made the jump as part of Xbox doing some "learning", the exec said he's seen Xbox's "franchises are getting stronger" and "Xbox console player [numbers] are as high this year as they’ve ever been.” Read more View the full article
