In the middle of what’s shaping up to be an exciting playoff conclusion, fifteen of the LCS’ best players are being rewarded for their regular-season excellence—with three teams in particular dominating proceedings this time around. On August 21, Riot announced the LCS’ All-Pro teams for the Summer 2024 regular season. When you reach the Outside the Forest Keeper’s Shrine in the Forest of Wolves in ****** Myth: Wukong, the Keeper turns you into a Golden Cicada so that you can scout the area ahead. This is useful, so you might be wondering if you can transform into a cicada again. I actually figured that Outside the Forest Keeper’s Shrine would be a good point to take a break, so I quit the game pretty much as soon as the transformation cut scene finished. When I reloaded my save, I was standing by the shrine in monkey form. To be honest, I had completely forgotten about the Cicada by then. View the full article
Capcom is finally removing gendered armor from the Monster Hunter series in 2025's Monster Hunter Wilds, meaning any character can wear any equipment. Game director Yuya Tokuda revealed during a presentation of Monster Hunter Wilds that the much requested feature would finally be implemented after more than 20 games and 20 years. "In previous Monster Hunter games you had male and female armor, but I'm happy to confirm that in Monster Hunter Wilds there's no more male and female armor," Tokuda said via a translator. "All characters can wear any gear." Monster Hunter fans have already expressed excitement over the change, as a post titled "We Defeated Gender" currently sits with 10,000 upvotes on the series' Reddit page. "Finally get to play a female lancer with the most absolute big chonka armor known to man," said one user in the comments. Monster Hunters Wilds was announced in December 2023 as the next mainline entry though no concrete release date has been given by Capcom yet. In our latest preview of the game, IGN said it's "shaping up to be pretty much what [we] hoped for: A Monster Hunter that embraces the parts of Rise that made it so much more inviting, but also doesn’t shy away from the larger scale and spectacle that helped make World the more enduring entry." Gearbox chief ****** Pitchford has responded to social media posts resurfacing his prediction that Steam would become a "dying store" amid the announcement that Borderlands 4 will ditch Epic Games Store exclusivity to launch on Valve's platform at the same time. Five year ago, Pitchford predicted that Steam “may look like a dying store” in the future, with “other competitive stores ... the place to be.” At the time, Fortnite maker Epic was at the height of its attempt to disrupt Steam’s monopoly on the PC games market by offering developers a more generous revenue split than Valve does. Borderlands 3 went on to launch as an Epic Games Store exclusive on PC, much to the annoyance of some PC gamers. Two years later, documents made available as part of Epic’s high-profile lawsuit with Apple revealed Epic paid Borderlands 3 publisher 2K $146 million up front to sell the game for PC exclusively through the Epic Games Store. That’s an eye-watering amount for exclusivity, but those same documents revealed Epic made back its $80 million minimum sales guarantee in the first two weeks. Despite Epic burning through cash as part of its war with Steam for the hearts and minds of PC gamers, Steam ******** the biggest player on the platform — and by a huge margin. And so now, following Borderlands 4’s reveal during Opening Night Live, and the confirmation that the series has ditched Epic Games Store exclusivity to launch on PC on Steam and the Epic Games Store at the same time next year, some have pointed to Pitchford’s inaccurate prediction and accused him of crawling back to Valve’s platform. Responding, Pitchford tweeted to say that Epic had not pressed its advantage in the PC battle with Valve, something he called “a shame.” "I’m a Steam customer, but sure wish they had more and better competition that was more favorable to artists, designers, and creators than to the retailer,” he continued. “I will continue to support competitors to Steam and also support Steam." Yeah, Steam is the leading store for PC games and Epic is not pressing their advantage (which is a shame). I’m a Steam customer, but sure wish they had more and better competition that was more favorable to artists, designers, and creators than to the retailer. I will continue to… — ****** Pitchford (@DuvalMagic) August 21, 2024 Pitchford went on to insist he’s less “anti-Steam” and more “pro-competition”. “It’s frustrating how much Steam takes given what they provide,” he said. “I will happily support competitive platforms that are more favorable to artists and developers and creators than favorable to the retail operators." And, in another tweet, Pitcford reiterated his disappointment that Epic has ******* in its war with Valve. “Epic did not press its advantage,” he said. “A lot changed there that was hard to predict. They also got in a big battle with Apple that was distracting to their focus on building the store. I am a Steam customer who is really hoping for real some competition!” A lot changed there that was hard to predict. Valve’s cut of PC game sales revenue has been a hot topic for years now, but it seems uninterested in budging. Given Steam’s dominance of the PC market, there’s little reason for it to. Epic boss Tim Sweeney, who has spent hundreds of millions of dollars taking on video game platform holders in recent years, is an obvious vocal opponent of Steam’s platform fees, with are typically set at 30%. Meanwhile, the Epic Games Store ******** unprofitable, by Epic’s own admission. Borderlands 4 launches at some point from April to December 2025 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. Scalpers can get in the bin, as Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree Collector's Edition is back in stock and on ***** right now at Amazon during its Gaming Week ***** from August 22-28. These are still incredibly popular, meaning it's extremely time-sensitive and could sell out. We couldn't just sit by and not shout about it. The Collector's Edition is down to £149.99 for PS5 and Xbox at Amazon, £70 off the list price and £100 off compared to retailers like GAME listed it for. If they are out of stock by the time you're reading this again, make sure you're following @IGNUKDeals on Twitter/X for immediate updates for when they come back. So what's included? Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree (base game not included), a Figurine of Mesmer the Impaler (46cm), an exclusive hardcover artbook (English), and a Digital Soundtrack. This sounds perfect for any big fans or collectors out there, so there's no like the present to get your order in. In case you slept on Shadow of the Erdtree when it came out earlier this year, we liked it rather a lot. In IGN's review, Mitchell Saltzman said: "FromSoftware says Shadow of the Erdtree is the only expansion Elden Ring will get, so it’s fortunate that it’s hard to imagine a better DLC than this – as long as you’re not hoping for it to do anything radically outside the box. Everything I loved about the original has been condensed into an incredibly tight package – one that’s the size of many standalone games all on its own, and can only be considered “small” in comparison to the absolutely massive world of Elden Ring itself." "Erdtree’s absolutely jam-packed with secrets, valuable treasures, challenging boss battles, and horrific monstrosities to face off against, as well as cool new weapons, spells, Ashes of War, Spirit Ashes, talismans, and more to play around with and use to find even more novel ways to tackle its memorably brutal battles. Add on some very interesting lore revelations, not to mention the same spectacular visual design and stellar music that accompanies its larger-than-life bosses, and you’ve got what is certainly one of the best DLC expansions I’ve ever played." It was also recently announced that Elden Ring has sold 25 million units ahead of Shadow of the Erdtree. In a post on X/Twitter, the colossal 25 million units sold milestone was revealed alongside a thank you to fans who have purchased the game. Elden Ring publisher Bandai Namco announced the game crossed 23 million units sold in March 2024, meaning it's grown another two million in less than three months. Like it or not, a live-action Naruto movie seems to be coming from Hollywood after spending many years in development *****. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton is currently attached to the project, and while he might have the directing sauce needed to pull off a flashy manga/anime adaptation, we're understandably worried about such a tricky transition regardless. Now, the movie's original writer is trying to calm fans down. Entertainment Weekly recently talked to scribe Tasha Huo, the showrunner for Netflix's upcoming Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft animated series, and of course, tried to extract new information regarding Naruto. To their surprise (and everyone else's), she actually spoke at length about the process of putting that movie together so far. While Cretton is now part of Hollywood's 'big leagues' thanks to Shang-Chi's reasonable success in 2021 - just as we were starting to exit the worst of the Covid pandemic - his background doing original work is extensive, and he's also found time to continue to produce shorts and TV series after his Marvel movie found an audience. Huo praised that aspect of his career, saying "his own writing and storytelling" is "very personal and relatable" to viewers before teasing the main idea behind the Naruto movie is to focus on the characters and what they go through: "This is definitely a movie that comes at it from a love of who Naruto is and that character and his relationships." If there’s one type of game we certainly haven’t been short of in recent years, it’s the life sim. The ongoing success of such series as Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon has always ensured a steady supply of similar games, but it really does feel like the 2020s have seen a surge of them, often with the latest buzzword ‘cosy’ attached. While most of these have come and gone without causing tremors in the industry, a few have made their mark by offering something different (I’ll defend Disney Dreamlight Valley to the ******). NetEase’s Floatopia will hope it lands in the latter category, and the half hour I spent with it at Gamescom suggests it just might. Read More... View the full article
Remember that puzzle game Unravel and its star: a cute lad made of yarn called Yarny? He'd tackle headscratchers by unwinding the very fabric of his body, similar to how a human being might feed their intestines through a karabiner and use it as a tether for a spot of rock climbing. Well, some of the minds behind Unravel are working on new game called Hela. This time it's less about yarn and more about being a small mouse who does parkour. Still, it does retain some of the bodily gymnastics of its predecessor. Namely the use of tongues as bungee ropes. Read more View the full article

Concord, Sony’s live service hero shooter, has been in development for around eight years. That’s according to lead character designer Jon Weisnewski, who joined the development team at Sony-owned Firewalk Studios five years ago to work on the game. Weisnewski tweeted to celebrate this week’s launch of Concord (it’s available to play now across PlayStation 5 and PC for Digital Deluxe Edition owners, but its full release is set for tomorrow, August 23). “The game has been in development for around eight years and I’ve been there for almost five of them,” Weisnewski said. “We don’t get a lot of Launch Days in our careers so today is special for a ton of reasons. Oblige me some good vibes today.” Concord is a 5v5 first-person shooter that follows Sony’s strategy with the phenomenally successful Helldivers 2 by launching on PS5 and PC at the same time and with a cheaper price. However, early indications are that Concord is set to endure a tough time on PC, with extremely low Steam concurrent player numbers for pre-launch betas. Sony does not make PlayStation player numbers publicly available. And so, there is a degree of concern about Concord as a viable live service as the game launches. But, according to Weisnewski: “we’re strapped in and ready to push it for years to come.” Concord’s eight-year development suggests a significant investment from Sony and a degree of pressure on the game to perform. Indeed, Concord has one of the 15 animated shorts that make up Amazon’s recently announced anthology Secret Level. But Concord is perhaps also yet another triple-A video game that has taken years to make and launches into an already crowded market drowning in live service shooters. The most high-profile casualty of this live service push in recent years is Rocksteady’s much-maligned ******** Squad: ***** the Justice League, which flopped to the tune of $200 million for publisher Warner Bros. Sony itself has scaled back its live service ambitions following big investment. In November last year, Sony president Hiroki Totoki said the company was reviewing the 12 live service PlayStation games it had in the works, and committed to launching only six of them by the end of financial year 2025. The following month, in December 2023, Naughty Dog announced the cancellation of The Last of Us Online, its troubled attempt to create a live service version of its hugely popular franchise. Then, in February this year, Sony announced a significant round of layoffs affecting around 900 staff at its global PlayStation workforce. The layoffs hit a number of PlayStation studios, including Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, Firesprite, and, most significantly, PlayStation's London studio, which closed down. Alongside the layoffs, a number of in-development games were canceled. Last month, Sony-owned Bungie, maker of the Destiny series, suffered devastating cuts, with its PvP-focused extraction shooter Marathon still in the works. Amid ballooning development costs and protracted development periods, the video game industry is enduring the toughest time in recent memory, with tens of thousands ***** off, multiple studio closures, and various games canceled. As for Concord, fans are already pointing out that if development on the game began around eight years, then that lines up with when Blizzard's hero shooter Overwatch blew up.
