  1. Cats are adorable, cute, and lovely, but if they could, they would take over the world and force everyone to work in round-the-clock dairy farms. Until now, it hasn't happened, but a new strategy and city-building game from Manor Lords publisher Hooded Horse brings to life this extremely cuddly nightmare. As the overseer of an indentured colony of mice, your job is to farm, build, and harvest in service to your malevolent cat overlords. They must be fed. They must be provided the finest silk scratching posts. But maybe, just maybe, you don't have to put up with this forever. A rival to Cities Skylines 2, Satisfactory, and RimWorld, this is Whiskerwood. Read the rest of the story... View the full article

  6. Alma Mater in College Football 25 sounds like two bizarre words stitched together, but rest assured, there’s a very cool meaning behind the phrase. Creating a coach in College Football 25 is a game in itself. You need to give them a personality, a look, and even delve into specifics like their playstyle—as well as their Alma Mater. It all ties into the Dynasty game mode, and while Alma Mater sounds like a spell from Harry Potter, it can help you establish your coach and imprint your vision in College Football 25. 8. AOC is no stranger to blazing-fast gaming monitors, but its latest addition cranks the speeds up a notch. The AOC Agon Pro AG246FK clocks in at a 540Hz refresh rate, bringing the sort of speed that's beyond even the latest OLED gaming monitors. We first got wind of this AOC 540Hz gaming monitor back in April, but it's only now that we're on the verge of the new display being available. Crucially, while we've seen 540Hz refresh rate displays from Asus and BenQ before, they demand a very high price, but AOC's new model is set to be much more affordable, making it a true best gaming monitor contender. 9. Marvel has dropped a new trailer for Deadpool & Wolverine, and it certainly seems like there'll be more than one of the merc with a mouth to expect. It's not a secret that the upcoming third Deadpool film is set to be a multiversal story, as the whole concept is that the Time Variance Authority, the secret group that tries to keep everything to just one timeline, needs Wade Wilson to essentially save the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For some reason he'll also have to rope fan favourite Hugh Jackman as Wolverine for one final outing of the character (and one first outing of the iconic yellow suit), but it seems like the film will be pulling several characters from across the various Marvel universes too. We already knew that characters from the Fox-produced Marvel films like Pyro, Sabretooth, and even Jennifer Garner's Elektra will be featured in the film, but this latest trailer, which you can see above, shows that there'll be quite a few Deadpool's for Wolverine to presumably get annoyed with in the film. The most notable two in the trailer are Lady Deadpool, a gender swapped version of the character that has made a few appearances in the comics, and Cowboy Deadpool, who also exists in the comics, where he's known as Deadpool ****. A few other Deadpools (take a shot for every time I've written Deadpool) can be seen in the background too, but it's not clear what their variances will be like. Read more View the full article
  10. The word "kiss" occurs 10 times in the latest blog post for the seventh major Baldur's Gate 3 patch, while the word "bug" occurs 14 times. I think this ratio captures how BG3 updates at large walk the line between dealing with stuff like progression blockers, and sating the inexhaustible horniness of the fanbase. There's more to patch 7 than glitch-hunting and snogs, however. Due in September, it introduces dynamic splitscreen functionality, expansions for Honour mode, modding tools, new endings for evil playthroughs, and a brace of tweaks for Origin characters. 20. Despite a rough launch and some ongoing problems, Battlefield 2042 has at least gotten better in the last three years. But it doesn't represent the EA DICE shooter series at its best. You want historical settings, enormous scale, destructible terrain, and a perfectly balanced mix of realism and pace. Battlefield 1 came pretty close. Now, an upcoming FPS also set during The Great War feels like the return to that high point combined with some smart, original ideas. Due for an early-access release later in 2024, if you aren't paying attention to Over the Top WW1 already, the new trailer, shared with PCGamesN exclusively, will definitely turn your head. 21. Three games are leaving the Xbox Game Pass subscription service on July 31, including the critically-acclaimed game A Short Hike, which is one of the higher-rated games on the platform. Games are removed from Xbox Game Pass every single month, though Microsoft usually makes sure that there are more games added to Game Pass than there are titles that are leaving. The second half of July 2024 is an exception to that rule, as three games are coming and three games are going. View the full article
  22. I hope you like watching ads, because a recent study suggests they'll make up a third of streaming services' revenue in the next few years. It was only about 10 years ago where it felt like TV was in this really promising place. Streaming services like Netflix were popular, but weren't dominating the industry just yet, there were all kinds of great bits of television being aired at the time, and your favourite shows weren't getting cancelled just because someone with a spreadsheet said a mysterious number wasn't high enough on a chart for some arbitrary reason. That's where we're at now, though, and unfortunately, despite streaming services being less convenient than ever, they're also more expensive than ever, with all the big names semi-regularly raising their prices to make up for the fact that not enough new people are subscribing. One of the ways Netflix et al have tried to either bring people back or bring new people aboard is with a "cheaper" tier that has ads in it. Cheaper is in quotes there because you're essentially paying what you did for Netflix only a few years ago, only now you can only watch it in one house, the video quality isn't as good, and yeah, just like cable, you've got ads. And it really seems like these ad-supported tiers are the future of streaming services, as in a Global Entertainment & Media Outlook 2024-2028 study held by PricewaterhouseCoopers (via Variety), it predicted that by 2028 "advertising will make up almost 28% of all the money that streaming services make." 25. Warning! This article contains spoilers for Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC bosses. An Elden Ring modder has found a novel way to make the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC easier, by allowing players to unleash a cast of major bosses to ****** by their side, setting up the potential for some dramatic boss-on-boss showdowns. There’s no denying that the Shadow of the Erdtree poses a significant challenge even to experienced Souls veterans, with FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki himself noting that the DLC “pushed the envelope in terms of what we think can be withstood by the player.” Thankfully, the new DLC Summon Bosses Mod from NexusMod’s user FlippantTunic22 makes this challenge a whole lot easier, by replacing a number of spirit ash summons with — as the title would suggest — boss summons! As spotted by Eurogamer, a grand total of 11 named antagonists from the DLC are included in the mod, which directly replace select spirit ashes, though the art relating to those summons ******** the same as in the vanilla version of the game. For example, triggering the Kindred of Rot spirit ash will now summon the Divine ****** Dancing Lion to ****** at your side, while the Nomad ash will call upon Messmer the Impaler to aid you in battle. YouTube user KanesGrace also posted a video of the mod at work, showcasing a number of climactic fights, including one in which Meytr, Mother of Fingers took down the DLC's final boss, Promised Consort Radahn. A full list of the summons and their counterparts can be found below, as per the NexusMods page, but obviously beware of spoilers for Shadow of the Erdtree's cast of bosses. ****** ****** Tiche = Romina, Saint Of The BudBanished Knight Oleg = Twin Moon Rellana SummonBanished Knight Engvall = Putrescent KnightLatenna the Albinauric = Golden Hippopotamus (Can be Buggy, make sure to summon it on a clear area as it might fall through the map)Nomad = Messmer The ImpalerCrystalian = Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame (1st stage only)Ancestral Follower = Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame (2nd stage)Cleanrot Knight Finlay = Commander Gaius***** Monk = Furnace GolemKaiden Sellsword = Promised Consort RadahnBlackflame Monk Amon = Meytr, Mother of Fingers (Might be a little weird with it spawn and push you back)Kindred of Rot = Divine ****** Dancing Lion (Might be a little weird with it spawn and push you back) The mod’s creator is planning to add more DLC characters to the mod in the future, and has ambitions to upload a separate addon at a later date that will allow players to summon bosses featured in Elden Ring’s base game.
