Palworld developer Pocketpair has said the survival crafting game dubbed "Pokémon with guns" isn't going free-to-play despite comments from CEO Takuro Mizobe suggesting such a move was under discussion. Pocketpair said on X/Twitter that the comments — with Mizobe saying that "making [Palworld] a live service game would extend its lifespan and make it more stable — were actually made months ago when the studio was considering different options. It has now decided definitively that Palworld will remain a pay-up-front game. "This interview was conducted several months ago," Palworld said. "At that time, we were still considering the best way forward for Palworld to create a long lasting game that continues to grow. We are still discussing this internally, as it is quite challenging to find the ideal path, but we have already decided that the free to play or games as a service approach is not suitable for us. "Palworld was never designed with that model in mind, and it would require too much work to adapt the game at this point. Additionally, we are very aware that this just isn't what our players want, and we always put our players first." Pocketpair said it is still considering live service elements like adding skins and other additional content to Palworld in the future but it will discuss this with players if and when the time comes. "We apologize for any concern this may have caused, and we hope this clarifies our position," Pocketpair concluded with. "Thank you for your continued support of Palworld." Palworld arrived in January 2024 and was instant hit despite complaints it was copying Pokémon in several of its monster designs. It had reached more than 19 million players by the end of the month, having launched on Steam and Xbox where it went straight into Game Pass. And though many of its players could have arrived via Microsoft's subscription service, Pocketpair made clear its numbers weren't a fluke by announcing Palworld had sold 15 million copies on Steam after a month of *****. The ranger's reputation in Baldur's Gate 3, much like the class in Dungeons & Dragons, is that it is one of the weakest choices for players of the game. Eliot's The Wasteland and **** Max: Fury Road - a blend of influences that would typically get you kicked out of the Creative Writing Club for being simultaneously too fancy and too obvious, but the game beyond the epigraph looks pretty swish. It's "a compact and high-density Metroidvania, with a focus on sequence-breaking and playing things out of order". It uses a square aspect display ratio calibrated to give wizened Game Boy enthusiasts the shakes, and is made up of 200 single-screen rooms that "slot into the larger puzzle-box of the world". As expected, The Witcher 3's REDkit modding tools have given modders a chance to have a go at doing a lot of complex stuff they couldn't beforehand. The latest of these looks to be the first ever proper attempt at giving the whole map full-blown seasons, and its creator says they're planning to see if they can get the time of year to switch dynamically in the future. Yep, stop desperately trying to read into the extra line another modder added into TW3's best ending the other day while you wait for more news on The Witcher 4. As far as I can tell, this is a step beyond the very good individual mods that've, for example, allowed you to see what snowy Toussaint would look like. Inspired by 'Seasons of Skyrim', a mod from a couple of years ago that uses very impressive scripting to allow you to experience dynamically switching climes, and the fact CD Projekt's latest REDkit modding challenge asks folks to show the studio "how fall can transform the Continent", modder ianjoseph1986 has put together 'Weathers and Seasons for the Continent'. A Baldur's Gate 3 modder has taken the first step in adding brand new, custom levels to the beloved Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game by creating new maps including the much sought after Avernus. Dexerto spotted a handful of Reddit posts from katszenBurger who has so far created two new Baldur's Gate 3 areas using an unlocked version of the official modding tool released by developer Larian Studios. The first area is centred around a castle on the shore and the second takes players to Avernus, the first layer of ***** in the Dungeons & Dragons multiverse that players were desperate for Larian to include itself. Custom map created using Unlocked Toolkit byu/katszenBurger inBG3mods .reddit-embed-wrapper iframe { margin-left: 0 !important; } As the developer has confirmed it's not working on any full expansions for Baldur's Gate 3, however, nor a full sequel, it's now up to fans to add it to the game. The modding tool was only unlocked a week ago on September 9 so this is still a very early version of what's possible, but it's a sign of ******* and better things to come when modders inevitably spend months and years creating custom content. A YouTube video of the castle and the Avernus map were shared too, showing Baldur's Gate 3 characters Wyll and Astarion walking around in them as normally as they would the official game. Screenshots in the Reddit posts show the maps too, and while both are still quite basic, katszenBurger has plans to expand their creations. "I had a lava area planned too, and maybe I could make the lake explorable a bit," they said on the Avernus map. "Dialogue is a work in progress in the editor, as are some of the environmental elements." But characters can walk around, pick up items, ****** enemies, and so on. katszenBurger also said map making is "very simple," meaning others will have easy access to create maps of their own. Another custom map using the Unlocked Toolkit, this time "Avernus" byu/katszenBurger inBG3mods .reddit-embed-wrapper iframe { margin-left: 0 !important; } While console players can enjoy the wealth of mods being made purely through the official Baldur's Gate 3 Toolkit, maps like these will remain out of reach unless Larian decides to fully unlock it itself. CEO Swen Vincke said in March this won't be happening, but perhaps plans will change after players managed it themselves. The toolkit arrived alongside Patch 7, which added lots of other content including an "absolutely metal" ending for Karlach and a hidden evil ending. Players will also be relieved to hear that it's not the final Baldur's Gate 3 patch after all. In our 10/10 review of the game, IGN said: "With crunchy, tactical RPG combat, a memorable story with complex characters, highly polished cinematic presentation, and a world that always rewards exploration and creativity, Baldur's Gate 3 is the new high-water mark for CRPGs." Alan Wake 2 has one more piece of DLC due out this October, and working on the soundtrack has left the game's composer a bit moist. When Remedy announced that it would be releasing a couple of pieces of DLC for Alan Wake 2, I was ecstatic considering just how good that game was. The first piece, which was a mini-anthology type thing about a couple of characters from the base game (and one not so much from the base game that I won't spoil for those that haven't got to it yet). The second and final piece of DLC, titled The Lake House, is due out next month sometime, and the game's composer Petri Alanko has shared that working on it has left him "crying constantly", though of course didn't spill any beans on what the DLC will be like. "I’m editing vocals for [The Lake House] DLC and this is by far the hardest thing I’ve ever run into, ‘cos the feels - I’m crying constantly, and it’s a ***** ugly ***** cry, not some posing-in-a-pic glycerin prop tear," wrote Alanko on Twitter. "Absolutely amazing stuff coming. I wish I could say more." Alan Wake 2 co-writer and co-director Sam Lake cheekily responded to Alanko saying "I might have written some lyrics to sum up the whole journey leading to and through Alan Wake 2," finishing with a shrugging emoji. Efforts to render Mars commuter-friendly proceed apace as Mars First Logistics embraces the magic of trains. The latest update for the physics-based open world build-a-car game introduces a mountable theodolite, which lets you stitch together monorail networks you can then ride about on. If monorails strike you as frivolous, don't worry. It's more of a Shelbyville idea. And in any case, the theodolite also lets you construct networks of pipes, power lines and rail-less tarmac roads - the ready-salted crisp of the road family. It’s a chonky expansion that, in the words of lead developer Ian MacLarty, has only “scratched the surface of where this new system could go”.
