While you’ve been able to stream your gameplay to friends over Discord since last year, you’ll soon be able to watch your friends’ streams whether they’re streaming gameplay from a PC, a mobile phone, or an Xbox. Xbox Insiders will be the first to get access to viewing Discord streams today, with the feature showing up inside Discord voice calls and in the “happening now” Friends section of the Xbox dashboard. If your friends are talking or streaming in a Discord server, the channel will also now be shown in this section. Apex Legends‘ matchmaking has recently come under ***** once more, with fans taking to Reddit to warn the developers to adopt Call of Duty’s matchmaking system or risk the game’s demise if ignored. A July 30 Reddit thread ignited a discussion among Apex players about the game’s Skill-Based Matchmaking (SBMM) system. The original post included a screenshot of Activision’s official paper on Call of Duty’s matchmaking challenges, suggesting that Apex might be encountering the same issue—a player base skewed towards higher skill levels. “Some of us enjoy the game but have no way to continue playing without getting matched with the best of the best, which ruins it,” was a claim echoed throughout the thread. Spirit Ash summons can be a huge help in challenging Elden Ring fights, but the concept has always had a major imbalance that makes it feel a bit weird in practice. True to the standards of developer FromSoftware, Elden Ring features some brutal bosses that keep intense amounts of pressure on any Tarnished brave enough to weather their attacks. Having a summon on hand can provide a useful distraction and a bit of extra damage to boot, with efficacy that can vary depending on which Spirit Ash is deployed. View the full article
I love Makoto Shinkai. I've seen all of his films, have manga and artbooks for his work, and even went to a Your Name pop-up cafe in Japan when that smash hit film first became an international sensation. Like Hayao Miyazaki, his creativity and vision have the ability to cut through the mainstream and produce magical animes that become critical and commercial successes. He's a defining director of the modern era of anime, and for good reason. Shinkai's massive worldwide success, however, has arguably overshadowed other directors who were breaking through at the same time, at least in the Western mainstream. A case in point is Mamoru Hosoda. Read more View the full article

Are you physically terrified of the idea that a game might tell you what to do? Or, rather, that a game might signpost the ideal path to an objective for you by making ladders and ledges look a bit like they've just been paid a visit by someone who's dunked themselves in custard? Good news, then. Star Wars Outlaws has a special mode aimed right at you. According to PC Gamer, Ubisoft's space scoundel sim features an "Explorer Mode", which does away with bits of "guiding ****** on core navigational elements" in the game's environments. Yes, that means no more yellow paint. This is another in a long string of landmark moments in the movement for accessibility features aimed at the folks who really need them - pedants that might bang on about having been robbed of the ability to discover a short ledge in truly immersive fashion. Forget the fact that the moment we miss something important and have to spend half an hour aimlessly jumping at a wall, we'll probably all start bleating about whichever game we're playing not having done enough to help us navigate swiftly to the next bit that we actually care about. Image: Microsoft I’m fairly confident Microsoft has created more Xbox controllers than I’ve eaten hot dinners at this point, but I’m always happy to see another translucent option. This time it’s the new “Sky Cipher Special Edition” controller, which includes a translucent blue design that lets you see the inner workings of the Xbox controller. Microsoft has created white, ******, and even pink translucent controllers in the past, but only the top half of those featured the effect. This new blue model is now mostly translucent, apart from the rear, grips, and buttons. It matches the special 20th edition model that was released in 2021. Microsoft has opted for two-tone thumbsticks, a matching D-pad, and blue metallic triggers. Image:... Continue reading… View the full article

Red ***** Redemption is regarded as one of the best open-world games ever made so the fact that an upcoming release is being compared to it should be great news to fans of the genre. Generally speaking, open-world games have become a somewhat saturated market as AAA studios attempt to provide users with more content that's spaced over a big map that's either barren or tedious to explore. Red ***** Redemption manages to provide a desolate world that never feels empty, so hopefully the same can be said for Ubisoft's upcoming release. View the full article

The First Descendant is full of intimidating bosses, and while most of the best examples are the game's Colossi, the Volgus commanders the player runs into more often can be daunting in their own right. The Volgus start off strong in the tutorial mission with Lord Karel, who is shown to effortlessly render the Descendants ineffective. A start like that is a tough act to follow, but the game never had a chance with its first major boss, Commander Greg. View the full article
Every time I step out of an elevator, I accelerate wildly in case the elevator falls without warning and chops me in half, leaving the frontal and, all things considered, inferior portion of my body swaying in place for a second before collapsing in a cloud of bisected bone and organ. Kletka isn't helping: created by in404, it's a horror scavenging game reminiscent of Lethal Company and Golden Light, in which you ponderously plummet through the layers of an "endless" post-******* Gigastructure, scrounging fuel, parts and provender for an elevator that wants to eat you. Palworld‘s community manager recently commented on the state of the video game industry, particularly the appearance of so-called “***** games.” He said it is only natural that a game would lose players over time and that playing one game all the time isn’t healthy. Palworld has been called a ***** game by some because it sees only a fraction of the activity it had on launch when it broke many records with its two million concurrent players. The community manager, John Buckley, said in a July 27 Going Indie video that Palworld wasn’t supposed to be a forever title, nor should any game strive to be, as that would incentivize big-name publishers to bring more live service titles to the industry. “It’s just not healthy for our industry because the more we push this kind of narrative, the more very large companies are going to just say ‘gamers want more live service,'” he said.
