  7. Here’s an idea for you: A single screen roguelike based on an old gambling game where you engineer impossible feats of luck to earn money that you can use to buy items and packs to rocket a point multiplier to obscene heights. Sounds like the kind of pure videogame concept that you could pick up for a few minutes, or an entire day, as if it was lab-grown to release as many endorphins as possible... 8. Overwatch 2 fans are hoping Blizzard follows Fortnite's footsteps in its recent decision to make expired battle pass skins available for purchase over a year later. The unfortunate nature of seasonal battle passes in Overwatch 2 is that once the current season expires, all unearned content becomes permanently unavailable. This is how battle passes in most major online titles operate, though gameplay-related items such as weapons in games like Call of Duty or XDefiant remain unlockable in the form of challenges after their respective seasons end. 9. Do you remember Thatcher's Techbase, the ***** mod that lets you ***** deceased former *** prime minister Margaret Thatcher, whose actions while in office rendered her more hated by working class people than even the numerous Tories that've followed in her footsteps since the 1980s? Well, it's now playable on modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles. If this is your first time hearing about Thatcher's Techbase, first of all, where have you been? Oh, and second of all, it basically turns the classic shooter into a battle with the demonic forces of a robo-Thatcher, complete with enough union jacks to properly convince you that you're in a hellish dystopia. Now, thanks to the fact Bethesda and Id Software have just released ***** + ***** II, a "definitive enhanced version" of the two classic games, complete with "online cross-platform deathmatch and co-op for up to 16 players" and "community-published single-player mod support" via an in-game mod browser, you can ***** Thatcher on modern consoles. 11. The Crush House is a delighfully unique title that's part social sim, part mystery, and part hilarious vaporwave fever dream. The "thirst-person shooter" comes from developer Nerial Games, which previously worked on Card Shark, and indie publisher Devolver, known for work on games like Cult of the Lamb and The Talos Principle. Crush House is wholly entertaining and genuinely unique in the way it blends genres, sense of humor, and fun aesthetics, with only a few issues of bugs and repetition getting in the way. 12. When I zoom the camera on Alex's momentarily untensed face while he's dozing by the pool, it's not because I'm a creep. When I pursue Ayo and Dija around the garden, keeping their feet and butts in shot as they belittle each other, it's not because I'm a busybody and a lech. And when I pan to the lighthouse piercing the sunset beyond the security spikes, it's not out of any feeling of wonder, or even curiosity about possible escape routes. Please understand: I do not see these people, these objects at all, just the boneless, faceless traces they leave upon my own servitude to the lens. Read more View the full article

  14. Borderlands content is everywhere right now as Gearbox Software has launched the brand-new Aug. 8, 2024 update to capitalize on the release of the long-awaited Borderlands film. It’s no secret the Borderlands film and its somewhat puzzling cast haven’t generated the most positive reviews. There’s even a sense among fans it has returned us to the dark ages of video game movies. Nevertheless, a successful piece of Borderlands media everyone still talks about is the third mainline iteration of the long-running franchise—Borderlands 3. View the full article

  16. Game install sizes are the worst. Ok, a bit dramatic, but I can't be the only one that groans when I look at a game's system requirements and spot a huge number of GBs I'll have to make room for on my SSD. In recent years, that allocation of precious storage space has become larger and larger. To be honest, it stresses me out... 18. A financial report from Remedy Games released this morning has confirmed that the Max Payne remake - a modern combination of Max Payne 1 and 2 - is in "full production". This report reveals that the game entered this state within the quarter spanning April - June 2024. In addition, Control 2 has entered its production readiness stage, pointing towards that game's gradual development towards its release. CEO Tero Virtala noted as well that "development fees increased from the comparison ******* due to higher development fees from Max Payne 1&2 remake". What this essentially means is that its full steam ahead on the remake's development, and those loses stem from the money faucet being turned and cash flowing towards its creation. As for the wider financials for the company, things are looking better than last year, with revenue increasing 16%. Operating loss is still 3.2 million euros, which sounds a bit ******, but that's a 1.6 million euro improvement from last year too. So for Remedy, things appear to be moving in a positive direction. 19. It scares me slightly to think that games from 2005 could now be considered 'retro,' but time marches inexorably on. Last Epoch and Diablo 4 are carrying the torch for action RPGs nowadays. For the more focused dungeon-crawling experience, we have the Torchlight series and upcoming Path of Exile 2. But before all of these games, back in the now authentically classic days of the early '00s, there was Fate and its three sequels. Boasting a 95% Steam rating even to this day, WildTangent's ARPG may have faded a little into the annals of gaming history, but it's about to make a gigantic comeback. Read the rest of the story... 22. I left my viewing of the Borderlands movie consumed by two thoughts. The first: My cinema was more packed than I thought it would be at 3:30 pm on a Thursday, and my local community will now surely tar me as a man who paid real-life British pounds to go and see a film currently boasting a hot 7% on Rotten Tomatoes (up from 0%). The second: What kind of foul trick did known magician ****** Pitchford pull on Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis to get them to star in it?.. Read more.View the full article
