First came some extremely varied critic reviews, then came reports of some pretty concerning performance issues and bugs, but spliced in between all of that is some immense popularity. Welcome back to yet more savings in the most discount-laden quarter of the year. I've been scouring the stores for nothing but the best games (actually) worth owning. In retro news, I'm remembering the 21st birthday of Manhunt, an especially notorious Rockstar Games production. Originally rated MA15+, it was soon RC'd (refused classification), and anybody caught selling it faced an $11,000 fine or 12 months in the slammer. Personally, I wasn't stoked with the clunky controls of this stealth-heavy, arena-to-arena *******-fest. But I was struck by its bleak nihilism, low-quality videotape aesthetic, and the innovative option of playing it with a USB mic headset. The first major choice players will make in STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl has players choosing between two factions: an unofficial, unnamed group of independent Stalkers inhabiting the town of Zalissya, and the authoritarian Ward, an organized militia that wants to establish greater control over the Zone and its inhabitants. When you initially begin in STALKER 2, everything is off to a rough start. Your contact who was going to help you learn new coordinates to recharge your artifact is *****, and now you need to use a scanner. And to use the scanner, you need to find an artifact. There’s an anomalous field near the Research Station where you can find an artifact. Unfortunately, Hermann was not helpful in describing accurately how you can track one down. Discovering an artifact in anomalies is a huge part of STALKER 2, and this isn’t the best introduction to how it all works. There are several side quests you can get while exploring the settlements in STALKER 2, or by simply speaking to people you meet along the way. If you talk to Lens, the resident technician in Zalissya, he’ll offer you a job called The Lost Boys. A regular group who works with Lens has gone missing, and he’d like you to try tracking them down. He can tell you where they were headed and what they were doing, but what happened to them is entirely up for you to discover. When you reach the quest’s end, you’ll encounter a difficult choice that may have positive and negative repercussions with how the stalker faction views you moving forward. You’ll want to pick your choice for The Lost Boys quest carefully in STALKER 2 and see if you can figure out your moral compass. View the full article

Towards the end of STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl's first main quest line, Skif is permitted to decide the ultimate fate of Squint, a local Stalker who went rogue after stealing a set of sensors from the Ward. An introduction to STALKER 2's main factions, it's a political conflict at its core: the Ward has been encroaching on independent Stalker territory, and wants to make an example of Squint. Richter, meanwhile, gives a care about Squint, but makes it clear that he doesn't really mind if he *****, so long as Skif brings back the sensors and saves that portion of STALKER 2's map.
