  1. Baldur’s Gate 3 has 10 companions who can be recruited throughout the game. Players can learn their backstories, many of which involve encounters which appear to be significantly above their power level. Although the canon reason for most of the companions as to why they perform differently in the game compared to their backstory is the illithid tadpole, some of the companions are not infected but are still less powerful than expected. 3. side from Civilization 7's transformative ages system, one of the most significant changes is the introduction of towns. In past games, all of your civilization's settlements were cities, and they all worked in the same way. In Civ 7, you can have just one city if you want—your capital—and still expand across an entire continent thanks to the humble town... Read more.View the full article

  7. During today's Q2 investors call, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed that Indiana Jones and The Great Circle has reached 4 million players. In an otherwise ho-hum earnings report for its gaming division, a bright spot appears to be MachineGames' newest release which has garnered critical acclaim, multiple awards, and now millions of players. While sales numbers are hard to pin down given its availability on Xbox Game Pass, 4 million is still an impressive number of players considering not many people knew exactly what to expect in a modern, AAA Indiana Jones game. We loved it ourselves, calling it an "irrestistable and immersive global treasure hunt," along with nominations for Game of the Year and Best Xbox game. You can read our full review here. Elsewhere in Xbox land, Microsoft confirmed that Game Pass PC grew 30% last quarter and set a new quarterly revenue record. On the cloud gaming side, 140 million hours of streaming has been logged. All this helped Xbox content and service revenue grow 2%. There's still work to be done however. While the Game Pass figures were stronger than expected, overall gaming revenue declined 7% and Xbox hardware revenue declined 29%. What does this all mean? Well, Microsoft still has ground to make up in the console and hardware space, but its continued investment into Game Pass appears to be paying off. Game Pass growth on PC makes sense given Xbox had a slate of big game releases last quarter that includes Indiana Jones but also Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6 and Microsoft Flight Simulator. All of which were available on Game Pass day one for Ultimate subscribers. Matt Kim is IGN's Senior Features Editor. 8. While I don't celebrate it myself, I'm all about scoring some sky-high savings from an annual lunar celebration. EA and Capcom seem to be leading the charge here with some ≥80% discounts on PC titles. I'm also seeing some mighty fine JRPG savings in the Nintendo eShop, plus some always welcome storage savings for Xbox Series X. As always, take a browse below to find a bunch more gold! In retro news, I've baked a large America-shaped birthday cake for Cruis'n USA, an early N64 arcade racer that's turned 27. This was uncomplicated wannabe 3D Outrun stuff—select one of seven muscle cars and then race against time through the checkpoints of 14 different courses. Honestly, this was only really memorable for its rockin' soundtrack, some decent 2P split racing, and a bunch of censorship decisions enforced by Nintendo. Seems they weren't fans of the ability to roadkill wildlife, a bikini-clad pornstar handing over trophies (shirt Photoshopped in), and also this weird secret ending with Bill and Hilary Clinton partying in a hot tub. 9. Back 4 Blood is widely regarded as the greatest co-op zombie game ever. Resident Evil gives us some of the scariest undead experiences. The likes of DayZ are touted for their intense focus on survival. But in discussions about iconic zombie games, Dying Light is a name that should come up more often than it does. While the original is great, Dying Light 2 is a far more accomplished iteration of the open-world, parkour-infused zombie slaying game, and right now it's super cheap on Steam. In fact, it's dropped to its lowest ever price. Read the rest of the story... 10. Minecraft may be an enormous sandbox where you can build anything you like, but that doesn't mean the laws of nature shouldn't be adhered to. That was the conclusion Mojang came to in 2022, anyway, when it scrapped plans to add fireflies in as a passive mob because, in the real world, they are poisonous to frogs. Yes, really. Well, over two years on from that moment, fireflies are coming back to Minecraft - but not as a mob. Read the rest of the story... 12. The From Nothing Diamond is a valuable piece of loot in Path of Exile 2, granting you greater flexibility with your character build by allowing you to jump around the passive skill tree more freely. As you level up, you'll make use of multiple resources to perfect your Path of Exile 2 build: Skill Gems to unlock new abilities, gear to grant you special perks, and skill points to unlock game-changing passives. Although your abilities have the most obvious impact at the beginning of the game, passives arguably become more important over time, completely changing the specialization of your build. 14. ****** Ops 6 enjoyed a record breaking launch quarter as it topped software sales on both Xbox and PlayStation, according to Microsoft. Notably, it was also the first Call of Duty to be available on Game Pass on day one. 15. While Enshrouded is a mighty fun solo survival and building experience, the fun factor gets amplified a lot when you jump into Embervale together with friends. And that’s where dedicated servers come in handy. With dedicated Enshrouded servers, the server will remain online for your friends to hop in even when you’re offline, and vice versa. Also, if you are the one hosting the game for your friends from the same PC that you are playing the game on, it can take some serious strain off your system (especially when it’s a 16-player server with a lot of simultaneous activities). 16. A recent leak in the Infinity Nikki community has revealed the upcoming 4-Star outfits for Update 1.2, including their evolution recolors. Much like its predecessors, the main revenue stream for Infinity Nikki comes from its featured banner outfits. These can either be 5-Star or 4-Star outfits, with the latter either being paired up with a 5-Star or having its own separate banner. While 5-Star outfits are technically more valuable from a gameplay standpoint, Infinity Nikki fans put greater emphasis on the cosmetic side of the game. As such, it's not uncommon for the 4-Stars to be more popular than their 5-Star counterparts, as can be seen with Daughter of the Lake. View the full article

  23. There seems to have been a massive flurry of new, Diablo-like ARPGs recently. Most notable among them, of course, is Path of Exile 2, but there are plenty of others that have arrived that steer clear of PoE and Diablo's dark, hellish aesthetics. The latest newcomer to the genre is Coridden, a co-op action RPG set in an alien fantasy world that lets you shapeshift into the creatures you defeat in battle. Read the rest of the story...
