  1. Warner Bros' licensed free-to-play fighting game MultiVersus - aka, the one where Velma Dinkley and Arya Stark can team up to kick Superman's face in - will no longer be playable online as of 30th May. It'll be pulled from Steam, the Epic Games Store and the PlayStation and Xbox stores at the end of its next season, though you'll still be able to get your fill of Bugs Bunny bashing offline against either friends or bots. 2. A minor tweak to Domains could result in a major improvement in Artifact farming in Genshin Impact if developer HoYoverse were to ever implement it. Farming Artifacts is, notoriously, one of the most arduous tasks in the popular action RPG. Obtaining them, per si, is not exactly difficult, but gathering the ideal pieces for character builds can be rough, as the randomness of drops often seems to be playing against players themselves. It is quite too common for players to run a Domain in search of a specific Artifact piece in Genshin Impact and struggle to obtain one of them. 3. Well, EA and Maxis have had something nice for retro Sims fans in store as part of the celebration of the series' 25th anniversary - those reported re-releases of the first two Sims games are real, and they're going on ***** today. Read more View the full article
  4. The Sleeping Dogs film adaptation, which was confirmed to be cancelled earlier this month, now has a chance of coming back courtesy of Marvel star Simu Liu. As reported by Newsweek, Liu replied to a fan calling for an adaptation of the 2012 game on X/Twitter to say he is trying to get the film off the ground. "Working with the rights holders to bring Sleeping Dogs to the big screen," he said. The adaptation was announced in 2017 with Donnie Yen set to star, but the film disappeared a year later and, just a few weeks ago, Yen himself confirmed it had been scrapped. "I spent a lot of time and did a lot of work with these producers, and I even invested some of my own money into obtaining the drafts and some of the rights," Yen said. "I waited for years. years. And I really wanted to do it. And unfortunately... I don't know. You know how Hollywood goes, right?" All hope for a continuation of the Hong Kong-set action franchise was therefore lost, until Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Liu replied to a random social media post. Whether or not he will gain the rights to the film, or get it running otherwise, remain to be seen. Sleeping Dogs was released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC and tells the story of detective Wei Shen as he infiltrates one of Hong Kong's notorious Triad crime syndicates. It was very well received, earning an 8/10 in IGN's review, but despite this received no follow ups were released. Ryan Dinsdale is an IGN freelance reporter. He'll talk about The Witcher all day. 5. EA and Maxis are celebrating the 25th anniversary of The Sims franchise with a truly excellent surprise. Today, both The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 are available on PC once again via two Legacy Collections and The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle. EA has announced that it's releasing The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection today on PC. The two are available separately as well as combined for $40 in The Sims 25th Birthday Bundle. Both games include all expansions and almost all stuff packs, as it looks like The Sims 2: Legacy Collection is missing the IKEA Home Stuff pack from 2008. But otherwise, everything's there. In fact, both collections include some bonus content, with The Sims 1 getting something called Throwback Fit Kit and The Sims 2 receiving a Grunge Revival Kit on top of all the other add-ons. EA's re-release of the two older The Sims games marks the first time in over a decade that both gave have been readily available to play. The Sims 1 was only ever released on disc, so for years now unless you were able to track down an old physical copy and somehow make it run on a modern Windows machine, there was just no way to get ahold of it (and that doesn't even include the expansion packs!). The Sims 2 was available more recently in 2014 via an Ultimate Collection on EA's Origin store, but the Ultimate Collection was taken down a while ago. So unless you took advantage of it at the time, The Sims 2 remained unavailable to you unless you could similarly find a physical disc. With these two new collections, all four The Sims games are now easily purchaseable and playable again through digital storefronts. We gave The Sims 1 a 9.5/10 and The Sims 2 an 8.5/10 waaaaay back in the day when we first reviewed them both. While the series has added numerous new features and ironed out a lot of kinks since then, the originals are still worth checking out for their goofiness, relative simplicity, challenge, and legacy. The Sims: Legacy Collection and The Sims 2: Legacy Collection are both available now on Steam, the Epic Games Store, and through the EA app. Rebekah Valentine is a senior reporter for IGN. 6. The supposed Super Smash Bros. competitor, created by other Bros. but Warner, is shutting down. MultiVersus, which brought together Warner Bros.’ IPs and characters together to fight it out fair and square, is closing permanently later this year after a long and arduous existence marred with issues. The company’s gaming subdivision announced the move on Jan. 31 on the game’s website, stating that this upcoming season would be the title’s last. Season five will be the final content update for MultiVersus, which will add Aquaman and Lola Bunny, and then the game shall walk into the sunset and never look back. The season is set to start on Feb. 4 and will run until May 30, with MultiVersus to shut down as soon as it ends. Monetary transactions, however, are already unavailable as of Jan. 31, with players able to continue playing the game offline even post-shutdown. View the full article
  7. Gamers hoping to get one of Nvidia's latest GPUs on launch day may be in for some disappointment, as both the RTX 5090 and 5080 sold out hours after going on *****. Shortages are nothing new for the company, and many expected the graphics cards to be in short supply at first, but the almost immediate stockout still left many would-be buyers stunned. Nvidia will put out more 5090s and 5080s later, but the GPUs will likely remain hard to find for a while. View the full article

  10. The long-awaited PC port of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been met with poor reception from players due to constant bugs and technical issues. The game is currently sitting at “Mixed” on Steam, with fans advising others to avoid the title until it is fixed. Spider-Man 2 launched on PC on Jan. 30 and was expected to follow up on the success of the previous title’s massively successful port, though that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Only a day after releasing, the game has been getting a ton of negative reception and reviews, with only 55 percent of them being positive. The primary reasons for this massive wave of negativity lies among a sea of technical issues, with one review saying that “to say this is ‘rough’ is an understatement.” Framerate problems, lighting glitches, desync, crashes, and freezes are just some of the problems cited in the game’s Steam reviews, which is unfortunately par for the course in modern game launches, especially ports. 11. The post-launch update and DLC schedule for Sid Meier's Civilization VII slightly discombobulates me, because the image above is weirdly reminiscent of Civ 7's own historical Age progression screens. But that uncanny similarity also pleases me, because I can now do the intro joke "all roadmaps lead to Rome".* In case you missed it, the new 4X strategy jobbo is out 11th February. Developers Firaxis have now sketched out plans for updating it, which extend from the usual balancing and bug fixes to a variety of new map types, possible multiplayer features and Age settings. 21. Player First Games has announced that MultiVersus Season 5 will be its last, bringing the Warner Bros. platform fighting game to a close May 30, 2025, at 9 a.m. PST. The studio revealed plans to discontinue support for the crossover brawler with a blog post on its website. MultiVersus, which launched May 28 last year, will launch into Season 5 starting next week, February 4, and will continue through its May 2025 end date. It’s at this point that support for online play will come to an end, with Player First promising that players will still be able to access all earned and purchased content while offline via the local gameplay mode and training mode. “Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus,” a message from the MultiVersus team says. “All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey.” It's been an incredible ride, MVPs. Thank you for all the support. For more details, please visit our blog post [Hidden Content] and FAQ [Hidden Content]. [Hidden Content] — MultiVersus (@multiversus) January 31, 2025 Player First adds that real-money transactions for MultiVersus are no longer available as of today, though fans will still have the option to use Gleamium and character tokens to access in-game content until support ends come May 30. MultiVersus will also be delisted from the PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, Steam, and Epic Games Store at this time. MultiVersus’ demise follows news that the project was seen as a major failure for Warner Bros. Discovery. In a financial call from November, the company explained that MultiVersus performed far worse than expected, resulting in around a $100 million writedown for its games sector. That brought the total to $300 million after the launch of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League in January. Just last week, Variety reported that Warner Bros. Games head David Haddad would be leaving the company following a tumultuous 2024. "We took another $100 million plus impairment due to the underperforming releases, primarily MultiVersus this quarter, bringing total writedown year-to-date to over $300 million in our games business, a key factor in this year’s studio profit decline,” chief financial officer Gunnar Wiedenfels said during the November call. Although today’s news means the free-to-play Warner Bros. fighting game will shut down just days after celebrating its one-year launch anniversary, Season 5 will at least send it out with a bang. In addition to the usual new content seasonal updates bring, new characters Lola Bunny and Aquaman will also be joining the fight as playable characters. Both will be available starting next week, with the Looney Toons icon able to be unlocked as a daily calendar reward and the DC superhero available through the battle pass.
