  3. Now is a great chance to grab a fast new SSD for a bargain price, as a 1TB Samsung 990 Pro is currently available for just $99.99 on Samsung's website. This gaming SSD deal enables you to save $40 on the usual drive, which is the fastest PCIe 4.0 SSD we've tested. Indeed, in our Samsung 990 Pro review, we praised this SSD's huge performance, which hit a read speed of 7,198MB/s and a write speed of 6,754MB/s in CrystalDiskMark, beating not only the Samsung 980 Pro, but also the WD ****** SN850X. In terms of raw speed, this is simply the best gaming SSD you can buy if you don't have a PCIe 5.0 system. Read the rest of the story... 4. The MOBA genre has been silent for a long time. Presided over by twin titans Dota 2 and League of Legends, we've seen challengers come and go, with most failing to really carve out a place for themselves. But that's slowly changing. 2024 saw the revival of Predecessor, a remake of Epic Games' Paragon, as well as the rise of Supervive, Theorycraft Games' colorful MOBA brawler hybrid. Then, of course, there's Deadlock, Valve's newest project that's already proven itself a worthy challenger despite being in the very early stages of development. Seekers of Skyveil is hoping to add itself to that list, and it's got a unique Escape from Tarkov-style mechanic that'll help it do just that. Read the rest of the story... 7. James Gunn, the director steering DC Studios towards a new dawn with co-CEO Peter Safran, has recently commented on a Marvel Rivals-styled game with DC characters, and the boss would thankfully be open to the idea. DC has dished out its fair share of games over the past few years, including Gotham Knights, Batman: Arkham Shadow on the Meta Quest 3, and Injustice 2. However, none quite reached the height of Rocksteady Studios’ Arkham series, but Marvel Rivals has perhaps paved the way for a hero shooter on the horizon. View the full article
  8. Yesterday, February 24, we reported that Assassin’s Creed Shadows had leaked online, with numerous people streaming the game a month ahead of its official release date on March 20. Over the weekend, and as spotted by the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, now-deleted social media posts showed physical copies of the game being sold ahead of its street date, and multiple streams of the unreleased game popped up on platforms like Twitch. Developer and publisher Ubisoft has now responded to the leak, confirming on the Assassin's Creed subreddit that it was aware of the issue, and implored players not to "spoil the experience for others." "We are aware players have accessed Assassin’s Creed Shadows ahead of its official release. The development team is still working on patches to prepare the experience for launch, and any footage shared online does not represent the final quality of the game. "Leaks are unfortunate and can diminish the excitement for players," Ubisoft added. "We kindly ask you not to spoil the experience for others. Thank you to our community for already taking steps to protect everyone from spoilers. "Stay in the shadows, avoid the spoilers, and keep an eye on our channel for more official surprises in the coming weeks! March 20 will be here soon!" The leaks will be another blow for Ubisoft and its leading Assassin's Creed series. The development team has already had to apologize for using a historical recreation group's flag without permission, and then again for inaccuracies in Assassin's Creed Shadows' depictions of Japan. Assassin's Creed Shadows was initially scheduled to release in November, but Ubisoft bumped it back to February 14, and then again to the current release date of March 20. A struggling Ubisoft needs it to perform well following lacklustre sales of other recent releases and an investor backlash. Vikki Blake is a reporter, critic, columnist, and consultant. 9. Call of Duty maker Activision has finally admitted to using generative AI in the development of ****** Ops 6, nearly three months after fans had accused the company of creating an “AI slop” Zombie Santa loading screen. In December, following the release of the Season 1 Reloaded update, fans noticed a number of telltale signs in ****** Ops 6 loading screens, calling cards, and art used to explain how Zombies community events work. At the centre of the backlash was a loading screen image of Zombie Santa, aka 'Necroclaus,' which some said showed the undead Father Christmas with six fingers. Generative AI often struggles with hands, adding extra fingers where they shouldn't be. Another image of a gloved hand was used to show off a new Zombies community event. It contained what looked like six fingers with no thumb on-screen, suggesting up to seven digits on this hand. The release of the Zombie Santa image sparked a closer look at other images in ****** Ops 6, which some in the Call of Duty community subsequently called into question. Redditor Shaun_LaDee highlighted three images included in paid bundles that have irregularities that could suggest the use of generative AI. Amid the 6 fingered Santa Controversy, I looked into some loading screens included in PAID bundles… byu/Shaun_LaDee inCODZombies .reddit-embed-wrapper iframe { margin-left: 0 !important; } Fans then called on Activision to disclose the use of generative AI for art that is included in bundles that are sold, and following new AI disclosure rules for Steam, it has now added a vague disclosure that covers the entirety of ****** Ops 6 on Valve’s platform. ****** Ops 6’s Steam AI Generated Content Disclosure reads: “Our team uses generative AI tools to help develop some in game assets.” In July, Wired reported that Activision sold an “AI-generated cosmetic” for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 last year. The cosmetic in question was not named, but was linked to the Yokai’s Wrath bundle released in December 2023. The store did not disclose any use of generative AI for this bundle. This bundle cost 1,500 COD Points, the premium virtual currency sold for real-world money that generates hundreds of millions of dollars for Activision each year. 1,500 COD Points is approximately valued at $15. Wired pointed out that Microsoft, which owns Activision Blizzard after its $69 billion acquisition of the company last year, cut 1,900 staff from its gaming business just months after Activision sold this skin. The report alleged that 2D artists’ jobs were being replaced by AI at the company. “A lot of 2D artists were laid off,” one anonymous Activision artist told the site. “Remaining concept artists were then forced to use AI to aid in their work.” Activision employees were allegedly “made” to sign up for AI training, with its use promoted throughout the business. Generative AI is one of the hottest topics within the video game and entertainment industries, which have both suffered massive layoffs in recent years. Generative AI thus far has drawn criticism from players and creators due to a mix of ethical issues, rights issues, and AI’s struggles to produce content audiences actually enjoy. For instance, Keywords Studios attempted to create an experimental game internally using entirely AI. The game failed, with Keywords citing to investors that AI was “unable to replace talent.” Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. 11. In typical shinobi style, Assassin's Creed Shadows has slipped through the cracks of physical and digital retail and sneakishly released itself a month ahead of schedule. The game is due to launch on 20th March, but people are already posting photographs of boxed copies, while others say they've managed to lift a code from the crevices of the PlayStation store. Videos of the game have been popping up on Youtube like Ninja Whac-a-******, no sooner seen than shurikened by Ubisoft's lawyers. Quite how all this has happened remains to be explained, but Ubisoft are naturally rather annoyed. They've put out statements asking people to avoid sharing spoilers, plus the boilerplate cautionary note that any footage you encounter isn't representative of the quality of the final game. 13. When an online game has been around for a decade or more, it often evolves into something new. Overwatch became Overwatch 2, OSRS split off from RuneScape, and even Destiny eventually got a sequel. Valve's Team Fortress 2 is no different. Made free-to-play in 2011 and smothered in updates since then, it's still one of the biggest games on Steam despite being very different from its original form. 14. With melting power cables and practically fictional stock levels, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 launch has already come in for some criticism, but now Nvidia has admitted that there's another problem. After recent reports that some RTX 5090 and 5070 Ti GPUs didn't have the correct number of render outputs (ROPs), the GPU maker has now confirmed that this is also the case with some Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 cards too, and it can result in a 4% drop in gaming performance. The first reports of missing RTX 5080 ROPs appeared on Reddit on February 23, prompting Nvidia to update its previous statement about the GPUs affected by the issue. As we found in our RTX 5080 review, this new Nvidia GPU is a decent performer for the money, especially given the current lack of competition in this price sector, but apparently not all 5080 cards are equal, and it's up to you to spot it. 16. There’s nothing I love more than a game with a compelling storyline, providing a reason to replay, and Lost Records: Bloom & Rage offers a huge amount of replayability. With countless branching dialogue options, multiple endings, and Collectible Memoirs to find, there’s a lot to go back for. However, Don’t Nod might have damaged the long-term success of Bloom & Rage, at least in my humble opinion, by failing to provide a crucial quality-of-life feature that was present in Life is Strange (the studio's previous massive hit) — an option to skip dialogue when replaying scenes. Screenshot by Destructoid To be clear, I’m not talking about having the option to skip over the entire story when playing through from start to finish. This is a story-based game, with most of the emphasis being on the narrative set up by discussion and interaction. I don’t even want the ability to skip over that, because going through the story is fun, and it’s easy to get swept up in it. However, there are 25 scenes that, once you’ve completed them for the first time on a save file, can then be played again as many times as you like in any order. Going back into any scene in Collectible Mode is incredibly useful in gathering all of the Collectible Memoires you might have missed, or witnessing alternative dialogue tracks without affecting the outcome of your main save. In Life is Strange, this Collectible Mode allowed you to skip over the dialogue moments that you’d already seen, and it was bliss. In Bloom & Rage, you have no choice but to watch the same scene on replay until you’ve memorized all the voice lines and could probably draw it from memory. Screenshot by Destructoid As someone who writes guides, perhaps this is something I’ve simply noticed more than most would. However, just this morning I watched the same scene on repeat for three hours to gather up the different responses from each girl to get a romancing guide together. I’m fairly confident I could now comfortably voice all four characters in that scene at this point, and I can confidently say that it was much less enjoyable the sixth time I was forced to listen to Kat get excited over Bikini Kill. If you’re jumping back into a scene to collect a single four-second Collectible Memoir, is there really a need to sit through a 10-minute dialogue that you’ve already seen? Not having the option to skip over these long conversations in Collectible Mode is a quick way to put even the most ardent of completionists off the idea. Screenshot by Destructoid With Tape 2 still yet to release on April 15, I’m hopeful that perhaps this feature will be added later, although I still don’t understand why it wasn’t added when Don’t Nod included it as a basic feature in Life is Strange. It seems like a strange thing to overlook. In the meantime, my inner completionist is just going to have to get used to seeing achievements left unclaimed. The post Lost Records: Bloom & Rage is missing one critical QoL feature from Life is Strange appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
  17. A new story trailer for the upcoming Lies Of P Overture expansion shows us more of the "legendary stalker" the player will be following through the snowy surroundings of Krat. The lore is served up raw with a heavy garnishing of opaque chatter that explains absolutely nothing. But I hear that's how you cook a soulslike story.
