  1. The Humble Choice games for May 2025 are here, and despite there being no big triple-A titles, there are still eight quite incredible games on offer. This month focuses on games from indie developers, all of which are worth your time and run great on the Steam Deck. Better still, by jumping on this month's games, you'll save over $250 against the total MSRP of the games when purchased individually, the biggest saving of any month so far in 2025. If you've got one of the best gaming handheld PCs, whether it's Valve's Steam Deck or an alternative like the ROG Ally X, these games will all work great. In recent months, some titles have been Unsupported or needed workarounds to play properly on the Steam Deck, but this month we have five Verified games and three Playable ones. 2. I feel like it's one of those abstract, fluid unquantifiables - what makes one FPS game feel good versus another? I know when I play it. Doom. Half-Life. FEAR. Trepang2. But I still can't fully reverse engineer the dynamics. With that in mind, Pigface - despite its grim, sleazy, DV-camera aesthetic - is ever so slightly magical. It's a horrible game criticism cliche, and it doesn't tell you enough, but at the same time, I know you know what I mean when I say that the shooting here feels great. Somewhere between the GoldSrc classics of Valve's heyday and the brutality of Hotline Miami and Rockstar's Manhunt, armed with a new publisher, Pigface is definitely one to watch. 3. So Grand Theft Auto 6 is finally, actually happening. After shadow-dropping the second trailer for the game yesterday morning and breaking the internet, the dust has settled—and realizations are setting in. Yesterday was a bit of a whirlwind. I've had Rockstar Games' Twitter notifications on for months waiting for this exact news, so I was prepared for it. What I wasn't prepared for, however, was how my mentions would be totally overwhelmed for the day after posting an innocuous musing about how the main characters likely won't be getting a happy ending, as is Rockstar's modus operandi of late. The blooming love story between GTA 6's lead characters, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, seems doomed from the get-go, and most people can agree with that fact, since the crime-doing duo seem heavily inspired by Bonnie and Clyde (it very famously did not end well for them). But beyond that, everyone seems to be struggling to come to an agreement on just how that love story will end. "Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them," GTA 6's synopsis reads. "But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive." Yeah, it's gonna get bad, and it seems like everyone is already preparing for the worst. [Hidden Content] Just over a day since posting my tweet speculating how players will have to choose between the lovebirds, it clocked in 174,000 views, over 350 reposts, nearly 8,000 likes, and almost 100 replies of people who have their own thoughts about how things might, should, and could end between the two. It's not exactly super viral, but it's a big one for me, and so I've been having a great time reading everything. It's all silly conjecture about a game that's over a year away from launching (and unfortunately, may get delayed again), but the topic is hotter than Vice City in the summer, with no shortage of opinions coming in from across the apps. We haven't even seen gameplay yet, but when it comes to this unfathomably hot couple that has been described as "********* panic," that doesn't matter. What I can gather from wading through my replies is that, if GTA 6 comes down to a choice on who survives like in GTA 5's ending, then Jason, my boy, you're cooked. Lucia is a hottie, a cutie with a booty, a salacious Latina who has captured the hearts and wandering minds of everyone online. Image via Rockstar Games I found several funny memes about how players would not think twice about offing Jason to protect Lucia, and I'm inclined to agree. Lucia is bad bad, and as one person said, "too hot to did." But I'd be lying if I said Jason wasn't a smoke show either, even if he's not my own personal particular thing. They are both red hot. As one person so eloquently put it, "this game was made for bisexuals." Many others are sick to their stomachs about even entertaining the thought of killing either one of them, like one person who said "I'll kill myself before letting anything happen to either one of them." Another chimed in with how they are "definitely killing the white man and saving the thick Latina," telling gamers "sue me early." One of the most popular theories I keep seeing is that Jason is an undercover cop and will ****** over Lucia in the end, while others think Lucia will be forced to turn on Jason for some reason. But in the court of public opinion after trailer two, Jason is stacking L's. Here's some of my other favorites about how Jason will be buried if given the choice: "obviously jason so lucia can **** out please be honest with yourself""And I know she will tell everyone how much he meant to her""we will be attending jason’s ******** if it gives a choice""Easy choice -- he's BONES lmao.""I’m killing the man 0 hesitations.""why tf he got his shoes on while in bed dirty **** cracka""legit not even blinking or giving it a single thought if this is the case, we will be attending Jason’s ******** in the post credits lmfao. I am NOT letting her die" A lot of gamers are already torn on the idea and are hoping for a secret third option where they both live because they already feel an attachment to the two of them. And with just two trailers and a handful of screenshots released thus far, that's saying a lot. Image via Rockstar Games There's always the chance for a happy ending where the couple rides off into the sunset (not likely), or they go out and die together in a romantic blaze of grimy glory (very possible), but for now, all we can do is sit and discuss and wait for the truth to be revealed next year. We are 384 days away from the currently-scheduled launch of GTA 6. Keep those theories and wants coming. Update on May 7, 2:57pm CT: Well, actually! Rockstar Games has now confirmed that the trailer is "comprised of equal parts gameplay and cutscenes" while being captured entirely on a PS5. 4. Although video game soundtracks rarely climb the Billboard charts, some defy the odds, from Minecraft's eerie serenity to Cuphead's brassy swagger. Now, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ascends with artistic force, captivating listeners beyond gaming and proving that music born in pixels can echo far beyond the screen. A glance at the Billboard Classical Albums chart reveals Expedition 33 proudly at number one, and rightfully so. Beyond its gripping story and fun-filled turn-based RPG mechanics, the soundtrack stands out as unforgettable. The main menu alone drew in so many players, myself included, with its captivating tone. I've found myself humming its theme all week, immersed in the haunting vocals and the delicate arrangement of strings. Screenshot via Billboard What makes this triumph even more impressive is the serendipitous journey of Lorien Testard, the composer behind Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. His path to the project began in the most unexpected way—by sharing his SoundCloud compositions on a video game forum. There, Guillaume Broche, Game Director of Sandfall Interactive, discovered Testard's work, setting the stage for a fortuitous collaboration that would define the soundtrack of Expedition 33. It just goes to show how anything can happen in the video game industry, even if it starts off as a simple conversation on a forum. Testard's own journey through the world of video games has profoundly influenced his approach to composing. On the official Expedition 33 page, he mentions that The Legend of Zelda features one of the most "unforgettable soundtracks." I can certainly see the inspiration behind this in Expedition 33, where echoes of that iconic score can be felt in the sweeping melodies and richly layered orchestration. But, of course, Testard adds his own unique spin to the world of music, and I reckon his work may inspire other virtuosos in future projects. Considering that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has claimed the number one spot on Billboard's Classical Albums, it's certainly a strong contender for Best Score and Music at the Game Awards. Heck, I would even argue it has the potential to take home the crown for Game of the Year, though there's still plenty of time left before 2025 draws to a close. With the year unfolding, the journey of Expedition 33 is far from over, and it will be exciting to see just how much more it leaves its mark on the world of gaming and music. 5. HoYoverse's wildly popular gacha action RPG Genshin Impact now displays how much you'll spend to guarantee pulling a character, and some of the rarer ones may reach almost $500. Gacha systems trade in-game currency for a chance to acquire in-game content, playable characters in Genshin Impact's case. The monetization system keeps Genshin free-to-play, but has been particularly controversial for its often obfuscated prices, which are no longer as hidden for U.S. players. View the full article

  7. Sony have announced a new PlayStation studio made up of former developers of Destiny, Halo, League Of Legends, Fortnite, and Roblox, plus a few industry newcomers. Called teamLFG - where "LFG" stands for Looking For Group, not the other, naughty phrase you're thinking of - they're based in Bellevue, Washington, and are dedicated to "exceptional action-based gameplay, moment-to-moment game feel, and richly social virtual worlds". Uuuuuurrrgh. Their first project is a "comedic" and "lighthearted" team-based action game set in a new science-fantasy universe. The PlayStation blogpost announcing all this is a wearying paean to an idea of the live service game that dates back to the original Destiny in 2014. It's written in the style of a cyborg that is trying to remember how to love. There is, however, a spark of eccentricity at the end that makes the labour of being preached to about engagement processes worthwhile: the team claim to be inspired by "frog-type games". What is a frog-type game? A Frogger homage? A real estate sim about Finishing Rooms Over Garages? Did they just misspell "frag", perhaps? The mind froggles. Read more View the full article

To celebrate, the first game is being remastered, introducing the shooter to a brand-new audience. Popularizing the active reload mechanic, the original Gears of War was groundbreaking at the time for its stunning visuals and satisfying gameplay. 9. The Diablo 4 Berserk crossover has arrived in Sanctuary, but it proves a rather expensive outing if you're looking to dress up for the occasion. While the legendary manga series created by Kentaro Miura has long inspired many games, including Dark Souls, Elden Ring, Final Fantasy, and Dragon's Dogma, it's now making an official appearance in Blizzard's ongoing ARPG. There are certainly some impressive cosmetics on offer here, but the price tag is leaving a sour taste in the mouth. Read the rest of the story... Halo Studios (formerly 343 Industries) nails the sense of weight and movement, and the Spartan power fantasy across the entire experience, but it's especially noticeable in Infinite's multiplayer. 13. Using the best build for Escoffier in Genshin Impact can significantly improve your performance on the field with her, even if she is specialized in allowing her team to operate while staying off the field per se. Escoffier is a 5-star Cryo character who wields a polearm in battle. Introduced as a playable unit with Version 5.6, Escoffier can operate on two fronts: either dealing Cryo DMG from off the field, which makes her a Cryo sub-DPS, or healing her allies with her Burst. Escoffier’s kit in Genshin Impact allows her to be a hybrid. View the full article For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

  19. It's almost surreal to ride a drop pod down to the surface of one of EVE Online's tens of thousands of planets in the upcoming shooter tie-in, EVE Vanguard. I've flown by them hundreds of times in the many years I've been playing the venerable spaceship MMO, but usually at astronomical distances. I always wondered about what was going on down there. I would make up stories about it in my head. Now I have a high-powered space rifle in my hands and I'm experiencing the universe up close and personal. And while it was a very, very build that couldn't show off a lot of the ******* promises, to my disappointment, there are some promising hints already. As a quick caveat, the footage you're seeing is still from an early build and a lot of things, including the weapon and enemy models, are not final. CCP just announced that Vanguard will be going into Early Access in Summer 2026, so we've still got a while to wait. Also, the portion we actually got to play was only the session-based shooter maps themselves, and not the career and progression stuff that will be taking place back in space. But I got to talk to the devs about both, so we'll get into a bit of each here. What, exactly, is a Vanguard? Well, like most things in EVE Online, it's some esoteric high concept sci-fi that can seem a little bewildering at first. Your character is a semi-immortal "infomorph" – which is to say a digital human consciousness that lives in cyberspace. I guess you could say you're something like Johnny Silverhand from Cyberpunk 2077. To fight on the front lines of New Eden's many wars, you upload yourself into a powerful war clone, which is purpose-grown from a fresh soup of biological matter for each mission. They're not free, but you can call down a new one in the middle of a mission if the one you're in gets blown up, explaining how you can respawn over and over. On a scale from random cannon fodder to Master Chief, the devs said you can think of war clones as not exactly superhuman, but more like the absolute peak of human ability an elite athlete could achieve. They are renowned across the galaxy, and running into another player-controlled Vanguard on a deployment is meant to feel like a mini boss fight. Suit Up Vanguards gather in bastions, which CCP says you could think of almost like The Continental from John Wick. I swear I'm not trying to shoehorn in more Keanu references here. It just happens! It's neutral ground to shop, swap stories, and pick up new contracts, represented by a virtual space where you'll be able to physically walk around and interact with other mercs' avatars. As someone who was devastated when EVE Online removed the ability to walk around in stations, I was particularly pleased to hear this. The really cool thing, though, is that these bastions exist out in the same universe where EVE Online players are zipping around in their spaceships. The initial ones will be NPC-controlled, but it will eventually be possible for players to attack, build, and even own their own bastions. CCP hopes specific bastions might develop a reputation as the place you go if you really need a job done right. And similar to how EVE has "high sec" space where NPC law enforcement protects new players and "low" or "null sec" where players are free to PvP to their heart's content, new Vanguards will also be able to choose where they end up based on how interested they are in fighting other players. Hair Trigger One of the biggest changes in philosophy EVE Vanguard has undergone since its reveal back in 2023 is how the guns themselves are being designed. We're moving away from sleek, understated military sci-fi into what the designers called an homage to the "golden age" of shooters, citing inspirations like Doom, Quake, and Unreal. There is still your standard space rifle, which comes in a few different faction variants. But I also got to play around with an energy shotgun with ricocheting projectiles that can fire in a spread pattern, or a single, massive orb of destruction if you hold down the fire button for a couple seconds. As more of a long-range enjoyer, my favorite was this high-powered sniper rifle that features the ability to hold your breath to line up a perfect shot. While the model is clearly unfinished, the reload animation of swapping out the little focusing crystal is slick and memorable as well. Like in EVE Online, almost everything is gathered and crafted by players, too. Even in a mission, I had to loot some corpses and spend a bit of time with my portable fabricator to top up my ammo. Mining and industry will also be a part of the Vanguard experience. It will even be possible to specialize in it – though the devs warned me that you'll probably want to bring some backup with combat skills if you do. For now, EVE Vanguard is still a lot of "wills," "shoulds," and " hope tos." It is playable, and the gunplay feels a bit unpolished still, but satisfying. You might see me switching weapons with a debug menu in the video at the top of the page, which was just for the demo. Eventually, we'll be picking our loadout from the deck of our own battlebarge ahead of a deployment. This will also let us pick which kind of war clone to spawn, and we were told they will eventually come in all different shapes and sizes for different specializations. Vanguard will also have a bit of separation from the main EVE Online economy. Notably, you don't buy guns and ammo with ISK, which is the main currency for the starship jockeys, since it wouldn't make much sense for a rifle to cost the same as a frigate. There absolutely will be ways for players of both games to work together and benefit one another symbiotically, though. Some materials Vanguards can access planetside might not be abundant in space, for instance. Another example I was given likened it to Star Wars: Rogue One or Return of the Jedi, where an elite ground team might have to take down a shield generator so the fleet above can attack a fortified station. Nightmare Fuel The enemies here are also a work-in-progress. Using placeholder models, they spawn in small groups and mostly keep their distance, but I did get caught a couple times by a flanking attack from an unexpected direction. We got to see some concept art of one of the PvE enemy factions, Mordu's Legion, though, and they are extremely unsettling. These cyborg space mercs who have their heart ritually removed as part of their initiation will come in several different ranks, with some being able to direct the others on the battlefield. On any given deployment, you might end up running into these NPCs and other players. These arenas are massive, open-ended, and varied, a combination of procedurally-generated terrain and handcrafted battlegrounds featuring the wreckage of some of EVE's recognizable starships. In this mission, there was debris actively streaking through the atmosphere as we fought, which was a really awesome touch. For now, EVE Vanguard is still a lot of "wills," "shoulds," and " hope tos." It is playable, and the gunplay feels a bit unpolished still, but satisfying. The environments are impressive, and the weapon designs are diverse and bombastic. It's just hard to get the full picture without actually experiencing how it will tie into the EVE Online shared universe or the social features, which are definitely the most exciting part of the whole idea. For that we'll have to wait until the middle of next year when Early Access warps in, at which point both games will be connected at last. View the full article
