  1. Andor’s Elizabeth Dulau Wants To Play This Iconic Video Game Character Andor’s Elizabeth Dulau Wants To Play This Iconic Video Game Character The first season of Disney+’s Andor was also the first time that British actress Elizabeth Dulau landed a major part in a Hollywood production. But after Dulau’s increased presence as Kleya Marki in Andor Season 2, she’s already got a dream role in mind as one of the most famous video game heroines. “Honestly, a dream role would actually be some sort of action hero–someone like Lara Croft!,” exclaimed Dulau during an interview with Country and Townhouse. “The people who know me best would not be at all surprised to hear me say that. I idolized characters like her and Indiana Jones as a kid, running around the house fighting imaginary bad guys. I even had a toy bow and arrow! Seeing a female character be that undeniably cool, clever and physically capable was so inspiring to me as a child, and my life would really come full circle if I ever got the chance to be that to other kids.” Dulau may have to get in line for that part. Game Of Thrones star Sophie Turner was reportedly in talks to play Lara Croft in Amazon Prime Video’s live-action Tomb Raider series. Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge developed the show for Amazon, but some recent unconfirmed reports suggest that the project may be dead. There’s currently no official word from Amazon whether the show is still going forward following the departure of Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke in April. Angelina Jolie originated the role of Lara Croft on the big screen in two Tomb Raider movies. Alicia Vikander took over the role in 2018’s Tomb Raider, which was loosely inspired by the 2013 reboot of the franchise. Vikander was originally going to come back for a sequel, but the follow-up movie never got off the ground. Hayley Atwell is currently voicing Lara in Netflix’s Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft. That series received a Season 2 pickup shortly after its debut last year. 3. Star Citizen “Pay-To-Win” Ship Upgrades Cause Fan Revolt Star Citizen “Pay-To-Win” Ship Upgrades Cause Fan Revolt Star Citizen, the spaceship-combat game with a never-ending crowdfunding campaign, is currently undergoing a wave of backlash from players. Developer Cloud Imperium Games recently rolled out components that improve ship movement that were originally exclusive to the real-money store–a change that has caused fans to revolt. As reported by PC Gamer, CIG’s addition of flight blades in a recent update, which improve ship maneuverability or speed, has caused significant anger among the community. The particular issue at hand here is that CIG rolled these out only to the Star Citizen Pledge Store, where the studio sells in-game items like ships, cosmetics, and upgrades. Selling an item like flight blades isn’t on its own unusual–the pledge store is a core method that CIG crowdfunds its game. However, Star Citizen has long had a norm of allowing players to purchase upgrades either with real money or with in-game currency (called aUEC). While the studio promised that they would be made purchasable by in-game currency later in the summer, they were launched early to players willing to shell out cash. Gating the flight blades exclusively behind a real-money paywall struck many fans as a bridge too far. The Star Citizen forum thread announcing the flight blades has accumulated over 2,000 replies, way more than the average thread, and most of these are quite negative. “Selling performance altering modules and keeping them locked behind this paywall even for a short ******* is still the definition of pay to win and not ok CIG,” the top-voted comment from user Vraxer declared. User Morphologis wrote, “So if we’re now separating out new features into sellable website commodities, where does this go next? Exclusive Jump Gate keys to Nyx 3 months early? Special exclusive new mission coordinate keys? This is a step too far.” The fan revolt came so quickly and with such intensity that CIG had to post a revision of its approach to flight blades. In this new thread, which itself has garnered over 1,100 replies and a huge number of negative reactions, the studio admitted that it had “missed a step” due to “moving faster than ever” to complete a packed docket of game updates this year. Instead of launching them into timed exclusivity to the pledge store, CIG stated that it would delay the release of the components until later in the summer and launch them simultaneously for both real money and in-game currency. CIG also committed to concurrent releases in the future, stating, “For future gameplay kit introductions, we’ll ensure these items are obtainable in-game on day one.” Perhaps not surprisingly, this slight backtrack has not calmed the frustration of Star Citizen players. Many of whom have continued to express dismay and anger at the expansion of components for ***** that are seen as “pay to win”–that is, components that significantly improve or otherwise alter the behavior of ships in normal gameplay situations. As the top-voted poster, SaltEMike, wrote, “This is a bandaid to calm people down, but the root issue here is that you continue to sell more and more items in the game that have a wider impact on what a player would do day to day.” Part of the reason why this change has caused such ire among fans is likely that Star Citizen has raised a tremendous amount of money from early adopters since it began its crowdfunding campaign back in 2013. According to its own website, CIG has brought in well over $800 million, an astonishing sum for a game that is still technically in early access. Correspondingly, Star Citizen is considered one of the most expensive games ever made. However, despite the game’s astronomical price tag, CIG has had a rocky track record of development practices. Last year, reports claimed that employees at CIG were being forced to work brutally long hours and crunch seven days per week on the game and its first-person shooter spinoff, Squadron 42. 5. Russia in favour of a ‘peaceful settlement’, says Putin after call with Trump Russia in favour of a ‘peaceful settlement’, says Putin after call with Trump US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke for more than two hours on Monday. It came after the White House said the US leader has grown “frustrated” with the conflict and planned a separate call with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky in the hope of making progress toward a ceasefire in the war in Ukraine. Moscow is ready to work toward ending fighting in Ukraine, Mr Putin said following the call. He said Russia was in favour of a “peaceful settlement” and that compromises would need to be found to suit both parties. Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin spoke on the phone for more than two hours (AP) He also described the conversation with Mr Trump as “frank and meaningful”. The White House did not immediately provide its own account of the call. Mr Trump expressed his hopes for a “productive day” on Monday — and a ceasefire — in a social media post over the weekend. His effort will also include calls to Nato leaders. But ahead of the call, Vice President JD Vance said Mr Trump is “more than open” to walking away from trying to end the war if he feels Mr Putin is not serious about negotiation. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the conversation “important, given the talks that took place in Istanbul” last week between Russian and Ukrainian officials, the first such negotiations since March 2022. Mr Trump has struggled to end a war that began with Russia’s invasion in February 2022, and that makes these conversations a serious test of his reputation as a deal maker after having claimed he would quickly settle the conflict once he was back in the White House, if not even before he took office. “He’s grown weary and frustrated with both sides of the conflict,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters on Monday ahead of the call. “He has made it clear to both sides that he wants to see a peaceful resolution and ceasefire as soon as possible.” The Republican president is banking on the idea that his force of personality and personal history with Mr Putin will be enough to break any impasse over a pause in the fighting. “I’d say we’re more than open to walking away,” Mr Vance told reporters before leaving Rome after meeting with Pope Leo XIV. Mr Vance said Mr Trump has been clear that the US “is not going to spin its wheels here. We want to see outcomes”. Mr Trump’s “sensibilities are that he’s got to get on the phone with President Putin, and that is going to clear up some of the logjam and get us to the place that we need to get to,” said Mr Trump’s envoy, Steve Witkoff. “I think it’s going to be a very successful call.” Source link #Russia #favour #peaceful #settlement #Putin #call #Trump Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  6. The Peasant Rail Gun Tactic Is a 400d6 Damage-Dealing Weapon of Mass Destruction The Peasant Rail Gun Tactic Is a 400d6 Damage-Dealing Weapon of Mass Destruction In Dungeons & Dragons, the only limit is your imagination… and sometimes the physics-defying loopholes you manage to squeeze out of the rules. If you’ve ever spent a session calculating some new ways to attack or start something, then you know how weird and wonderful D&D can be. But every so often, the community discovers a tactic so bizarre, so mind-bendingly broken, it feels like a prank on the laws of both D&D and reality. One of those glorious tactics is the Peasant Railgun, a theoretical “weapon” capable of dealing nearly 400d6 damage in a single turn. How can you weaponize the working class in Dungeons & Dragons? The Peasant Railgun started as a joke on a forum at the tail end of 2008, but quickly turned into a full-blown fan theory. It used D&D 5e mechanics to create a supersonic projectile launcher made entirely out of peasants and a disassembled ladder. To make this work, players need exactly 2,280 commoners, each standing five feet apart in a straight line, meaning a line of over 2 miles. Then you need to disassemble a ladder and break it down into a ten-foot wooden pole weighing about 7 pounds. This will be your projectile. Then, each peasant is instructed to use the Ready action to pass the pole to the person in front of them when it’s their turn. Since a round in D&D is only 6 seconds, and the pole travels 11,400 feet in that time, it’s moving at approximately 1,188 miles per hour, nearly Mach 1.5, or supersonic speed. According to the Falling Object rules in D&D, an object deals 1d6 damage for every 10 feet fallen, capped at 20d6. However, RAW (Rules As Written) doesn’t technically limit damage caused by an object moving horizontally at insane speeds. So, by stretching the rules and interpreting the horizontal motion like vertical falling, you can justify 400d6 damage (11,400ft / 30ft = 380, rounded up for good measure). Yes, you read all that correctly. This isn’t a spell. This isn’t an artifact. It’s a broken ladder and a couple of thousand commoners weaponized through math and madness. In simple words, it’s ludicrous. It’s hilarious. It’s theoretical D&D physics at its absolute most chaotic. Why can’t you replicate this anymore When life gives you commoners, build a ballistic weapon. | Image Credit: D&D Beyond on YT The Peasant Railgun isn’t just absurd, it’s game-breaking. Players love the meme, but Dungeon Masters (DM) everywhere began losing sleep over what might happen if someone actually tried to build this supersonic peasant-powered death machine in their campaign. So, recognizing the overpowering nature of the exploit of simply misusing common things like Ready action, object interactions, and combat timing, it has been outlawed. It was the logical step, but sadly, peasants now need to get back to their regular work and not throw a stick at supersonic speeds. In 2024, the Dungeon Master’s Guide states under “Players Exploiting the Rules ” that the rules were never meant to simulate real-world physics and certainly weren’t designed to turn farmers into a ballistics team capable of obliterating enemies in a single round. And the Ready action is for heroic cinematic moments, not for engineering superweapons. So while the Peasant Railgun remains a legendary example of what happens when creativity collides with loose rules, it’s now officially outlawed in the latest rulebooks. In the end, this exploit is a small reminder that the best part of the game isn’t always the battles or the loot, it’s the wild, rule-stretching schemes that only a table full of chaotic adventurers could dream up. 7. Google I/O will be a major event for Android XR glasses and headsets – here are 3 announcements I’m expecting to see Google I/O will be a major event for Android XR glasses and headsets – here are 3 announcements I’m expecting to see Google I/O is usually an important event. It’s where Google usually lays out the next year of software innovation. But this year, I think it’ll be an especially important event as Android XR is all but confirmed to take an important role in the festivities. Android XR is Google’s latest operating system created exclusively for XR devices – VR and MR headsets, or AR glasses. We know Samsung is collaborating with Google on an Android XR headset in Project Moohan, and in a pair of smart glasses, but I suspect I/O will showcase plenty more. Here are my three predictions of what we’ll see. You may like 1. Project Moohan: a date and a name (Image credit: Lance Ulanoff / Future) Right now Project Moohan is known solely by its codename, but I suspect it’ll get a proper title at Google I/O as the gadget gears up to go from prototype to consumer product. Nothing has been leaked at the time of writing, but Samsung Galaxy Vision, or something in that vein, would be my guess – maybe Galaxy Eye, or Galaxy I25. Enough of the name guesses, my second prediction is we’ll get a release date, or at least a release month. We know from Samsung’s own teasers it’ll be in the second half of 2025, and I’d put my money on a release around the end of the year (September to November) as that’s between Samsung’s major foldable announcement in the summer and its standard smartphone release at the start of the following year. I don’t expect us to get a price at this stage. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. For one, because I suspect it won’t be cheap, and Google and Samsung might not want to dampen anyone’s Android XR excitement. For another, I suspect it has not been decided yet. There will be a whole load of factors at play, but while things have calmed down slightly, US tariff drama could very well rear its head again, and so it’s safer for Samsung to wait until closer to launch before announcing one price and having to adjust it. 2. Software, Software, Software (Image credit: Google) Google I/O is always software-heavy, and I expect Android XR’s showcase will be no different. Besides any news about the operating system, I hope Google will also be keen to highlight apps and developer partnerships it has for Android XR software. Exclusive games and app announcements – rivals to Meta’s own selection, like Batman: Arkham Shadow – seem less likely at this stage, given Google’s struggles with platforms like Google Stadia and in-house game development. Google could, though, buy one from a third party. At the very least, I’m hoping we’ll see a presentation slide filled with recognizable VR, MR, and AR apps that users will know from Meta Quest, Steam, and other XR app stores. 3. More partners? (Image credit: HTC) Google’s Android XR announcement currently feels as much its own as it does the announcement of its two biggest collaborators – Qualcomm and Samsung – with Google and Samsung execs co-announcing headsets and glasses when Android XR was first teased. But Samsung is one of many Android partners in the world of phones, and so it would make sense that Android XR would appear on glasses and headsets from a variety of brands. Sony and HTC seem like very possible candidates given their expertise in the world of XR and Android smartphones, but there’s a whole suite of candidates across both the Android and XR space who could announce Android XR collaborations at Google I/O 2025. Google hasn’t announced its own hardware yet either. There’s not yet official word on any Google Pixel glasses – everything we’ve seen so far involves Samsung – but perhaps that will change. The big question is if we’ll see anything concrete (i.e., a prototype, or less likely a ready-to-ship model), but some verbal confirmations feel very plausible. 8. Paramount ousts CBS News CEO Wendy McMahon Paramount ousts CBS News CEO Wendy McMahon Wendy McMahon, President and Co-Head of CBS News and Stations. Michele Crowe | CBS | Getty Images CBS News Chief Executive Officer Wendy McMahon announced Monday she is stepping down, the latest twist in a growing battle of wills between the company’s news division and Paramount Global controlling shareholder Shari Redstone. Paramount Global co-CEO George Cheeks had a discussion with McMahon Saturday and asked for her resignation, according to people familiar with the matter. McMahon agreed to step down, and the Paramount Global board held a meeting Sunday at which members were made aware of the decision, according to those people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal matters. Spokespeople for McMahon, Paramount Global and CBS News declined to comment. “The past few months have been challenging. It’s become clear that the company and I do not agree on the path forward. It’s time for me to move on and for this organization to move forward with new leadership,” McMahon wrote in her resignation letter to employees. In recent weeks, Paramount Global’s board had put increasing pressure on Cheeks and McMahon to know specific details about “60 Minutes” programming ahead of its air date in a divergence from how the show operated in the past, according to people familiar with the matter. Veteran “60 Minutes” executive producer Bill Owens resigned last month, citing Paramount Global’s increased scrutiny on his journalistic independence. “Our parent company Paramount is trying to complete a merger,” “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley said on-air at the end of an episode last month after Owens resigned. “The Trump administration must approve it. Paramount began to supervise our content in new ways. None of our stories has been blocked, but Bill felt he had lost the independence that honest journalism requires.” “60 Minutes” aired its final episode of the season on Sunday. It won’t have live episodes again until September. McMahon felt she had to fight to even get “60 Minutes” to air at all in recent weeks, given the board’s preference that certain stories not run, according to people familiar with her thinking. McMahon was appointed CEO in August 2023. There have also been several points of tension between McMahon and Redstone in recent months, including CBS’s coverage of the Israeli-************ conflict and a potential “60 Minutes” settlement with the Trump administration over the editing of an October interview with then-presidential candidate and former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris. Privately, Redstone has criticized McMahon for “fairness and balance” issues, according to people familiar with Redstone’s thinking. Redstone has also been unhappy with McMahon’s leadership and the performance of CBS News from a business perspective, according to people familiar with Redstone’s thinking. Merging with Skydance Paramount Global is trying to get government approval to merge with Skydance Media, run by David Ellison. The deal would pay Redstone more than $1.5 billion for her controlling share in the company. She would not have a role at the merged entity going forward. That merger is being held up by the Federal Communications Commission as negotiations between Paramount Global and the government continue over the “60 Minutes” interview. Another point of contention between the federal agency and the company is corporate diversity initiatives, The Wall Street Journal reported last month. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr has publicly urged media companies to curb diversity, equity and inclusion programs. In February, Paramount said it would end its DEI policies, citing an executive order by President Donald Trump that banned the practices. In October, she publicly criticized McMahon’s decision to reprimand CBS News morning anchor Tony Dokoupil over an interview with author Ta-Nehisi Coates. CBS News said Dokoupil had violated editorial standards when the host pushed Coates on why he didn’t include more of Israel’s perspective on Palestine during the interview. Redstone said CBS News made a “bad mistake.” “I think Tony did a great job with that interview,” Redstone said in October during a panel at Advertising Week New York. 9. JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon says the bank will let clients buy bitcoin JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon says the bank will let clients buy bitcoin Jamie Dimon, chief executive officer of JPMorgan Chase & Co., speaks during the 2025 National Retirement Summit in Washington, DC, US, on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Al Drago | Bloomberg | Getty Images JPMorgan Chase is finally allowing clients to buy bitcoin. But CEO Jamie Dimon is still a skeptic. “We are going to allow you to buy it,” Dimon said at the bank’s annual investor day on Monday. “We’re not going to custody it. We’re going to put it in statements for clients.” The decision marks a notable step for the largest U.S. bank, particularly due to Dimon’s history of criticizing the digital currency and the crypto market broadly, and is the latest sign of bitcoin’s entry into mainstream investing. Since August, Morgan Stanley has allowed its financial advisors to pitch some spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds to qualifying clients. Dimon made it clear that his personal view of bitcoin remains unchanged, highlighting issues like money laundering and the lack of clarity surrounding ownership, along with “the sex trafficking, the terrorism.” “I don’t think you should smoke, but I defend your right to smoke,” Dimon said. “I defend your right to buy bitcoin.” A JPMorgan spokesperson declined to elaborate on the bank’s specific plans for bitcoin access. Until now, the company has limited its crypto exposure primarily to futures-based products, not direct ownership of bitcoin. When crypto valuations were soaring in 2021, Dimon dismissed bitcoin as “worthless.” He told lawmakers during a Senate hearing in late 2023 that he’s “always been deeply opposed to crypto, bitcoin, etc.,” and that, “The only true use case for it is criminals, drug traffickers … money laundering, tax avoidance.” He said at the hearing that, “If I was the government, I’d close it down.” At the 2024 World Economic Forum in Davos, Dimon said, “Bitcoin does nothing. I call it the **** rock.” He added that, “This is the last time I’m talking about the with CNBC, so help me God.” Read more about tech and crypto from CNBC Pro Morgan Stanley CEO Ted Pick told CNBC at this year’s event in Davos that the investment bank is exploring ways to deepen its involvement in cryptocurrency markets, navigating the regulatory landscape under the pro-crypto administration of President Donald Trump. Since President Trump took office in January, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency have rescinded their anti-crypto guidance. While banks can now custody crypto, thanks to the repeal of an accounting rule called SAB 121, they still face restrictions on working directly with crypto firms without explicit approval from the Federal Reserve. 10. UnitedHealth’s recovery rally has more room to run, says Katie Stockton UnitedHealth’s recovery rally has more room to run, says Katie Stockton UnitedHealth (UNH) has experienced a sharp sell-off of nearly 50%, with two news-driven gaps-down in the past month that pushed the stock below long-term support near $447. This decline has caused significant damage to UNH’s long-term technical outlook. However, the stock appears poised for a short-term rebound following its recent stretch of dismal relative performance. Since gapping down in mid-April, UNH has been in a steep relative downtrend versus the S & P 500 Index (SPX) , mirroring the bearish price action. Now, signs are emerging that a relief rally has begun, which long-term holders may welcome as an opportunity to reduce exposure. A daily counter-trend signal from the DeMARK Indicators hints at downside exhaustion for UNH, reinforcing oversold conditions and supporting the view that UNH is due for a near-term recovery. A countering signal showed upside exhaustion last September. Initial resistance is at former support (~$447), which, while not necessarily a reasonable objective, gives the short-term rally room to the upside. Looking at rest of healthcare The healthcare sector’s problems have not been limited to UNH. The sector has been a source of short- and long-term underperformance. Heavyweights like Amgen (AMGN) , Eli Lilly & Co. (LLY) , Merck (MRK) , and Regeneron (REGN) saw bearish reversals late last year, while others like Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) and Pfizer (PFE) extended their secular downtrends. Now, these stocks are individually showing signs of downside exhaustion, and because healthcare stocks generally hold defensive properties, their relative performance should improve in a weaker tape. AMGN, for one, is oversold from an intermediate-term perspective in absolute and relative terms. The latest downdraft has brought AMGN back to a long-term support area near $260 defining the stock’s trading range. The DeMARK Indicators have a new counter-trend signal supporting a minimum four-week ******* of stabilization, which should contribute to relative improvement versus the SPX. —Katie Stockton with Will Tamplin Access research from Fairlead Strategies for free here . According to the Nintendo Today app, the Switch 2 will have the same 30-second video capture limitation as the original Switch. And while the average player just looking to grab a quick clip of a cool in-game moment isn’t likely to be particularly bothered by this constraint, it’s likely to be much more frustrating for enthusiasts who were hoping the Switch 2 would provide upgraded abilities. For Switch 2 users to obtain similar capabilities, they’d need to invest in an external capture card, which can be a costly venture. No word has been shared on whether the Switch 2 can capture video at higher resolutions and frame rates than the original Switch, which was capped at 720p and 30 fps. 13. Venezuela minister says suspending Colombia flights after arrests Venezuela minister says suspending Colombia flights after arrests CARACAS (Reuters) -Venezuela’s Interior Minister Diosdado Cabello said on Monday he has ordered flights from Colombia suspended, after the arrests of more than three dozen people, including some 17 foreigners who arrived via Colombia, for alleged conspiracy. Venezuelan authorities regularly decry conspiracies and planned attacks against President Nicolas Maduro, the country’s power grid and other targets. They often point the finger at the country’s opposition, which they say works hand-in-glove with the United States to attack the country, accusations both the opposition and Washington have always denied. Thirty-eight people have been arrested in connection with the alleged conspiracy, Cabello said during a press conference with local media. “We have given the instruction to suspend all the flights from Colombia to our country,” the minister said, adding the measure was effective immediately and could “surely” be extended beyond May 25, when Venezuela is holding legislative and gubernatorial elections. “We have discovered a new plot of conspiracy and terrorism, we have captured a group of Venezuelan who were returning to the country with explosive artifacts,” Cabello said, adding the group of 38 included “bombers, coyotes and mercenaries.” Colombia’s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Acclaimed as the world’s first 49-inch OLED monitor, the G9 delivers dual QHD resolution and a whopping 240Hz refresh rate with a response time of just 0.03ms. While our best gaming monitor pick in this bracket might be the Philips Evnia 49M2C8900, the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 49-inch scored an excellent 4.5 stars in our review and remains a solid pick, especially at this price, which is the lowest we’ve ever seen. As we noted in our Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 49-inch review, this wide-screen beast excels in a number of key areas. The image quality is really impressive, with deep contrast and saturated colors. There’s no need for calibration, and both feel and performance for gaming were top-tier. Max resolution is 5120 x 1440 with the aforementioned refresh rate of 240Hz, 10-bit/DCI-P3 native color depth and gamut, with support for HDR10+ and Display HDR 400. SDR brightness is rated for 250 nits, with a 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio. In terms of connectivity, you get DisplayPort 1.4, two HDMI 2.1 sockets, 3.5mm audio, and USB 3.0 (1 up, 2 down). The onboard audio is also excellent, as is the inclusion of Samsung TV Plus and Game Hub. There are also handy features like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Apple AirPlay. All of this is held together by premium build quality. The only let downs were a slightly complex and disjointed menu system and lack of sRGB, but none of that is enough to rob the G9 of a 4.5-star performance, a fantastic rating even at list price. 16. Novo Nordisk bets on new CEO to regain weight loss drug edge over Eli Lilly Novo Nordisk bets on new CEO to regain weight loss drug edge over Eli Lilly A view of the logo of Novo Nordisk at the company’s office in Bagsvaerd, on the outskirts of Copenhagen, Denmark, March 8, 2024. Tom Little | Reuters Novo Nordisk is banking on fresh leadership to help it reclaim the crown in the booming weight loss drug market. The Danish drugmaker on Friday abruptly announced that longtime CEO Lars Fruergaard Jorgensen is stepping down, as its obesity injection Wegovy loses ground to Eli Lilly‘s rival treatment, Zepbound. While Eli Lilly entered the market later, it is emerging as the frontrunner in a space that some analysts believe could be worth more than $150 billion by the early 2030s. Novo Nordisk’s new top executive will need to help the company close the gap with Eli Lilly, fend off emerging rivals and navigate other challenges. The next CEO will have to spearhead the company’s plans to launch a new slate of weight loss drugs before key patents for Wegovy expire, and manage the impact of Medicare drug price negotiations and President Donald Trump’s planned tariffs on pharmaceuticals. It’s unclear who will take Jorgensen’s place, but the company said it is considering both internal and external candidates. “While Novo [Nordisk] took a commanding early lead in the obesity duopoly, they have ceded ground at a critical moment when more competitors are quickly approaching,” BMO Capital Markets analyst Evan Seigerman said in a note on Friday, referring to other drugmakers racing to market their own obesity treatments. Novo Nordisk once held the title of Europe’s most valuable company – worth $615 billion at its peak – driven by skyrocketing demand for Wegovy and its diabetes counterpart, Ozempic. Stock Chart IconStock chart icon Novo Nordisk shares have plunged in the last year as Eli Lilly gains ground on its rival. But investor enthusiasm has faded after Eli Lilly gained a ******* share of the market and clinical trial data on Novo Nordisk’s next wave of obesity drugs underwhelmed investors. Shares of Novo Nordisk have plunged more than 50% over the past year, wiping out over $300 billion in market value. Novo Nordisk’s stock is still up more than 250% since Jorgensen took over as CEO in January 2017. But shares of Eli Lilly have gained about 800% since that same month, when CEO Dave Ricks took over the company. Mounting pressure also came from the powerful Novo Nordisk Foundation, the controlling shareholder of the Danish drugmaker. The foundation recently urged Novo Nordisk’s leadership to consider an “accelerated CEO succession” and pushed for greater board representation, according to a statement on Friday. Novo Nordisk on Friday said it jointly concluded with Jorgensen that it was time to find a new CEO following the foundation’s request, recent market challenges and the steep decline in the company’s share price. Jorgensen said he did not see his ouster coming and was only informed of it recently, according to several reports on Friday. Days before the announcement, Novo Nordisk slashed its sales and profit forecast for the first time since the launch of Wegovy four years ago. Seigerman said it’s still unclear whether a new top executive will be able to address the company’s challenges. “Although it might satisfy some for investors to drive a CEO transition, without meaningful change in near-term strategy, we continue to see a more difficult path forward,” he said. Competition rises ahead of drug launches Novo Nordisk has been ceding market share to Eli Lilly, even though Zepbound’s dollar sales still trail Wegovy’s. Zepbound and Eli Lilly’s diabetes drug Mounjaro now make up over half of U.S. prescriptions for so-called GLP-1s, which mimic hormones to tamp down appetite and regulate blood sugar, according to a separate note from Seigerman earlier this month. That outpaces the combined 46% share of Novo Nordisk’s Wegovy and Ozempic. A combination image shows an injection pen of Zepbound, Eli Lilly’s weight loss drug, and boxes of Wegovy, made by Novo Nordisk. Hollie Adams | Reuters New U.S. prescriptions of Zepbound surpassed those for Wegovy for the first time in early March 2024, just months after the launch of Eli Lilly’s drug, Reuters reported at the time. By August, some analysts were estimating that Zepbound had captured 40% of the U.S. weight loss drug market, hot on Wegovy’s heels. That “market-share traction clearly demonstrates that physicians and patients prefer Zepbound” over Wegovy, Bernstein analyst Courtney Breen wrote in a note in early May. Real-world data and a head-to-head clinical trial have shown that Zepbound leads to more weight loss than Wegovy. Novo Nordisk has also struggled to convince Wall Street that its pipeline of next-generation weight loss drugs can help it maintain its position in the market, especially after Wegovy loses exclusivity and drugmakers can sell cheaper generic alternatives. For example, Novo Nordisk repeatedly told investors its CagriSema shot, expected to be launched in 2026, would help people lose 25% or more of their body weight. But the once-weekly drug failed to live up to that forecast in December 2024, sending shares of the company plunging. The company in April said it has filed for U.S. approval of an oral version of semaglutide, the active ingredient in Wegovy and Ozempic. It comes as drugmakers rush to develop more convenient weight loss pills, which could account for $50 billion of the market in the coming years, according to some analyst estimates. But Seigerman, in a separate note in April, said Novo Nordisk has no clear strategy for its oral obesity drug portfolio. He said that is “likely to challenge growth in the end of the decade,” especially as Eli Lilly’s own obesity pill impresses investors and inches closer to entering the market. Unlike oral semaglutide, Eli Lilly’s pill is a small-molecule drug and not a peptide medication. That means Eli Lilly’s drug is absorbed more easily in the body and doesn’t require dietary restrictions like oral semaglutide does, which may be a notable advantage for the company. Seigerman acknowledged that Novo Nordisk’s experimental small-molecule pill, amycretin, could be competitive long-term. But he said that won’t happen soon, as the drug is not expected to launch for several years. Outside of pipeline issues, Novo Nordisk and the rest of the pharmaceutical industry are grappling with the Trump administration’s ambitions to lower drug prices and bring manufacturing to the U.S. Trump has said he plans to impose tariffs on pharmaceuticals imported into the U.S. and signed an executive order that aims to cut drug prices by tying them to the lowest prices abroad. Signs of a changing strategy Novo Nordisk made it clear that its strategy remains unchanged despite Jorgensen’s abrupt exit. “We have a strong product portfolio with lots of potential,” Novo Nordisk board chairman Helge Lund said on a call with analysts on Friday. “We have an experienced executive team to continue to evolve and drive the company forward with a long-term perspective.” But Seigerman said the decision to swap CEOs seems to “draw attention to pivots in this strategy that may be necessary.” Investors have already been seeing potential signs of that shift, according to Seigerman. Novo Nordisk has long prioritized peptide-based therapeutics. But the company’s recent dealmaking indicates that it is leaning “heavier on oral small molecule solutions for the obesity market,” Seigerman said. The company last week announced a licensing deal with the U.S. biotech company Septerna for experimental small-molecule pills for obesity and other cardiometabolic diseases. But those pills are in early development and those products are years from entering the market, meaning the agreement is still risky. The same can be said of several of Novo Nordisk’s other recent tie-ups. For example, Novo Nordisk in March said it had agreed to pay up to $2 billion for the rights to an early experimental drug from the ******** pharmaceutical company United Laboratories International. The newly acquired drug is a clear potential competitor to Eli Lilly’s so-called “Triple G” obesity drug retatrutide because they both use a three-pronged approach to promoting weight loss and regulating blood sugar. But retatrutide is in late-stage clinical trials, which means it could enter the market years before Novo Nordisk’s drug does. 17. How climate change could hit your credit score How climate change could hit your credit score A real estate sign stands in front of a burnt property, following the Palisades Fire at the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Los Angeles, California, U.S. Jan. 13, 2025. Mike Blake | Reuters Anyone shopping for a mortgage knows how far into your finances lenders like to dive in order to determine your credit-worthiness. But here’s a new factor: climate change. Given how quickly climate disasters are increasing, both in frequency and in resulting costs, lenders are paying far more attention now to how those costs could hit them. Insurers are also struggling to keep up and more often pulling out of the most risk-prone areas, making the losses even steeper. Add to that, FEMA is in a state of flux under the Trump administration, with both cuts to staff and potential disaster funding. Climate has therefore become an increasingly important consideration in assessing credit score risk, right along with a consumer’s debt, income and collateral in the home, according to a new report from First Street, a climate risk assessment firm. The risks includes flood, wildfire and wind. In a severe-weather year, projected annualized climate-driven foreclosures could result in $1.21 billion in bank losses this year, or 6.7% of all foreclosure credit losses, according to the report. Just 10 years from now, as weather events grow more frequent and more destructive, those credit losses could increase to $5.36 billion, representing nearly 30% of foreclosure losses. If lenders start factoring climate into their underwriting, then a consumer’s credit score could fall or even rise depending on the risk to their property. The former would result in higher borrowing costs. The study notes that lender losses today are primarily in just three states: California, Florida and Louisiana. “Mortgage markets are now on the front lines of climate risk,” said Jeremy Porter, head of climate implications at First Street. “Our modeling demonstrates that physical hazards are already eroding foundational assumptions of loan underwriting, property valuation, and credit servicing—introducing systemic financial risk.” An aerial view of a flooded residential neighborhood street after localized heavy rain on December 18, 2024 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Joe Raedle | Getty Images When a property is flooded in an extreme weather event, it has a higher foreclosure rate than its unflooded neighbors. That historically translates to an average 40% surge in post-flood foreclosures among damaged homes, according to the report. Consumers in high-risk areas, like the Florida coasts, are already seeing huge jumps in insurance premiums due to recent storms. The First Street report was able to link those increases to a rise in foreclosures. Some homeowners simply can’t afford the increases and are walking away, again, leaving lenders on the hook. Some lenders may require flood insurance on homes that are in government-designated flood plains, but overall lenders do not factor the effects of future climate change into their underwriting models. Fannie Mae, which is not a lender but funds much of the mortgage market, was looking at doing this two years ago, but has yet to announce any changes. The annual costs of climate-related disasters have jumped 1,580% over the last four decades, according to the First Street report, which looked at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s billion-dollar weather and climate disaster database. That resource will no longer be updated, due to staffing cuts by the Trump administration. The increase in cost is due not only to greater storm severity, but also to inflation, as well as higher populations and more real estate development in riskier areas. Americans love the coasts and, in most areas, are increasingly paying a premium to live there. But the jump in those climate-related costs, and the consequent risk, is affecting households, financial institutions and investment portfolios alike. “There is a significant amount of credit loss risk related to climate that is currently hidden from traditional credit loss models. This reports the systemic effect weather disasters are having in the mortgage market from both direct damages, but also indirect impacts like increasing insurance costs,” Porter added. Our job is to create the very best entertainment. If we do that, the revenue will take care of itself,” he said. Not everyone would agree that Take-Two is executing against this directive, as 2K’s annual NBA 2K franchise is criticized every year for its ubiquitous microtransactions. Despite that, sales of NBA 2K25–the newest entry–are strong, reaching nearly 10 million units, Zelnick said. Take-Two currently makes most of its money from what it calls “recurrent consumer spending,” which includes revenue from virtual currency, add-on content, in-game purchases, and in-game ads. For Take-Two’s latest quarter, revenue from recurrent consumer spending jumped by 14% and made up 77% of Take-Two’s entire net revenue. NBA 2K25 was one of the top contributors in this department. Also in the interview, Zelnick discussed the current pricing environment for video games, with companies like Nintendo and Microsoft beginning to charge $80 for new games. Zelnick said when adjusted for inflation, pricing for new releases has declined for the past 20 years. Indeed, $60 in the ’90s is about $80 today, adjusted for inflation. Zelnick declined to say if Take-Two will follow suit and begin charging $80 for new games, but instead spoke about how his aim is to “maximize the value being delivered, and then offer that value at a meaningfully reduced cost.” “That’s our job. I do think that the value that is offered is massive and growing, and that is our job,” he said. On the subject of ******: The Old Country bucking the trend and selling for $50, Zelnick said this was an intentional pricing decision made with the aim of getting the game “into as many hands as possible.” The Old Country is a linear, non-open-world title that doesn’t require a massive time commitment. 2K has said it believes there is an audience for just such a game. Another upcoming 2K game, Borderlands 4, launches in September but has no price as of yet. Gearbox boss ****** Pitchford said even he doesn’t know what the price will be. GTA 6 launches in May 2026, and many are expecting it to sell for a higher price point, though not everyone agrees that it will be $100. According to industry experts, the data shows that people are already embracing paying more for video games, which may help explain why Nintendo and Microsoft were the first to move to higher price points. 20. Red Dead Redemption 2 Fans Demand Map Expansion After Next-Gen Upgrade Rumor Red Dead Redemption 2 Fans Demand Map Expansion After Next-Gen Upgrade Rumor The Wild West is buzzing again, and it’s not because of a new gunslinger in town. Recent leaks suggest Rockstar Games might finally be giving Red Dead Redemption 2 the next-gen treatment fans have been begging for since the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S launched. But in true cowboy fashion, the community isn’t satisfied with just sharper textures and smoother framerates. They want the whole dang territory—specifically, they’re demanding the original Red Dead Redemption story be integrated into the sequel’s gorgeous engine and map. Fans want more than just a pretty face The excitement kicked off when GameReactor reported that sources “close to Rockstar” revealed a next-gen upgrade patch for Red Dead Redemption 2 is in development. The same report claims the western epic might also mosey on over to Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console by the end of 2025. While the prospect of Arthur Morgan’s adventure running at a buttery-smooth 60 FPS already has many fans reaching for their wallets, others are dreaming *******: Comment byu/intelerks from discussion inreddeadredemption2 This sentiment isn’t isolated. Many players feel the current map—already massive by gaming standards—still has untapped potential. The transition between the two games has been a particular pain point for fans who want to experience the complete saga: Comment byu/intelerks from discussion inreddeadredemption2 While stitching together two massive games isn’t as simple as fans make it sound, it’s not entirely far-fetched. Rockstar already recreated much of the original game’s map in Red Dead Redemption 2—they just didn’t fully utilize it in the story. The vast, breathtaking landscapes of the game continue to impress even seven years after release. Many players feel it’s criminal that such artistry sits relatively unused after completing the main story: Comment byu/intelerks from discussion inreddeadredemption2 With GTA 6 now officially delayed until May 2026, Rockstar might be looking for ways to keep fans happy in the meantime. A refreshed Red Dead Redemption 2 could be just the ticket! Remasters: cash grab or game preservation? Old West, new hardware. | Image Credit: Rockstar Games Not everyone’s thrilled about the prospect of yet another remaster in the gaming industry. Some see it as studios milking old content rather than creating new experiences: Comment byu/intelerks from discussion inreddeadredemption2 This take misses the mark when it comes to Rockstar Games, though. Unlike some studios churning out remasters by the dozen, Rockstar is simultaneously developing what is undoubtedly the most ambitious open-world game ever with GTA 6. Their track record speaks for itself—when they do release something, it’s usually worth the wait. Besides, Red Dead Redemption 2 still outshines many current-gen titles despite being released in 2018. The game’s attention to detail and visual fidelity were so ahead of their time that even a modest upgrade could make it look like a brand-new 2025 release. Comment byu/intelerks from discussion inreddeadredemption2 This Redditor raises a valid point. As gaming hardware evolves, ensuring masterpieces like Red Dead Redemption 2 remain playable on modern systems isn’t just about making money—it’s about protecting art. The potential next-gen upgrade also raises questions about Rockstar’s pricing strategy. Will they offer it as a free update for existing owners, or charge a premium as they did with GTA 5? The community’s reaction will likely depend on which path they choose. What do you think? 21. PM says Israel to control Gaza Strip as aid enters PM says Israel to control Gaza Strip as aid enters Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says Israel will control the whole of the Gaza Strip despite mounting international pressure that pushed it to lift a blockade on aid supplies that has left the enclave on the brink of famine. The Israeli military, which announced the start of a new operation on Friday, warned residents of the southern city of Khan Younis on Monday to flee to the coast immediately as it prepared “an unprecedented attack”. “There is huge fighting going on, intense and huge, we are going to control all parts of Gaza … but we have to do it in a way that we won’t be stopped,” Netanyahu said in a video message. He said Israel would achieve “complete victory” with both the release of the 58 hostages still held by ****** in the Gaza Strip and the destruction of the ************ militant group. Even as the military warned of the attack, Reuters reporters saw aid trucks heading towards the enclave’s north after Netanyahu was forced to agree to allow a limited amount of aid into the Gaza Strip in response to global concern at the reports of looming famine. Netanyahu said US senators he has known for years as supporters of Israel, “our best friends in the world,” were telling him the scenes of hunger were draining vital support and bringing Israel close to a “red line, to a point where we might lose control”. “It is for that reason, in order to achieve victory, we have to somehow solve the problem,” he said, in a message apparently addressed to hardliners in his government who have insisted aid be denied to the Gaza Strip to stop it reaching ******. Israeli air strikes across the strip killed at least 40 Palestinians on Monday, according to local medics, as the military said it hit 160 targets, including anti-tank positions, underground infrastructure and a weapons storage point as part of what it has dubbed “Operation Gideon’s Chariots”. One of the strikes killed seven at a school housing displaced families in Nuseirat, in the enclave’s centre, and three in a house in nearby Deir al-Balah, local health authorities said. Israel’s stated war objective is to destroy ******’ military and governing capabilities and bring back remaining hostages. ************ media said 50 trucks carrying flour, cooking oil and legumes would be allowed into the small coastal territory later on Monday while Israeli media said nine trucks with baby food were expected to enter in coming hours. “If I’m not mistaken, trucks will be entering, are planned to enter today already. Small amounts,” Israeli military spokesman Nadav Shoshani told reporters. He said it took time to create a situation where hundreds of trucks were able to enter daily and that such a decision was also a political one. Israel has faced rising pressure over the blockade on humanitarian deliveries it imposed in March, shortly before breaking a two-month-old ceasefire, as aid agencies warn of famine in the enclave of 2.3 million people. Nahed Shheibar, owner of a transport company involved in aid distribution, urged Gazans not to intercept or loot the trucks. ************ health officials said more than 500 people have been killed in attacks in the past eight days as Israel has stepped up its military campaign. Sources on both sides report no progress in a new round of indirect ceasefire talks between Israel and ****** in Qatar. Israel’s ground and air war has devastated the Gaza Strip, displacing nearly all its residents and killing more than 53,000 people, according to Gaza health authorities. The war erupted after ******-led militants attacked Israeli communities on October 7, 2023, killing about 1200 people and seizing 251 hostages, according to Israeli tallies. 22. The Overwatch 2 X Street Fighter Collaboration Is “A Match Made In Heaven” The Overwatch 2 X Street Fighter Collaboration Is “A Match Made In Heaven” The next major collaboration coming to Overwatch was teased last week, as Capcom’s Street Fighter franchise will become the first-ever video game franchise to join Blizzard’s hero shooter. Eight of Overwatch’s heroes will be given the Street Fighter treatment, as they’ll be able to dress up as eight of SF’s world warriors, with some new themed emotes to boot. GameSpot sat down with Overwatch art director Dion Rogers and former character art director Arnold Tsang to talk about bringing Street Fighter to Overwatch, from the character-selection process to how Street Fighter inspired some of Overwatch’s design choices from the very beginning. The eight Overwatch 2 X Street Fighter skins “Match made in heaven” From the beginning of discussions–”about a year ago,” according to Rogers–the Overwatch x Street Fighter collaboration has been what Tsang describes as “a match made in heaven.” A big part of that, as Rogers describes, is Capcom’s shared background in developing games. “With some of our collaborations, there’s a little bit more explaining to do,” Rogers says. “Capcom though, they do this. They make games. They get it. If we come to them and say, ‘Hey, there’s some technical challenges with this, we’re going to have to edit this look,’ they understand. The back-and-forth between us and Capcom was really nice.” Capcom also gave the Overwatch team “complete say” in which heroes would be included from the Overwatch side, as well as the Street Fighter characters they would be paired with. There was only one caveat: The Street Fighter characters had to come from the roster of the current game, Street Fighter 6. “We had complete say on what that would look like,” Rogers says. “Capcom gave some suggestions after reviewing things with us, but we have a ton of Street Fighter fans on the team, so the concept artists already had ideas. Ultimately, we had a conversation together that landed on which hero we choose as the right hero for a character.” Finding the right pair The team at Overwatch, with Capcom’s input, eventually settled on eight Overwatch heroes and the Street Fighter characters they’d be portraying: Hanzo as Ryu Sigma as M. Bison Winston as Blanka Cammy as Widowmaker Soldier: 76 as Guile Zenyatta as Dhalsim Juno as Chun-Li Kimiko as Juri Some of these decisions allowed the team to explore new facets of a hero; pairing Widowmaker with Cammy, a natural fit given their assassin or “femme fatale” background, also offered a unique opportunity to show Widowmaker with a more human-like skin color as opposed to her trademark purple. Other groups presented unique challenges; making Sigma into M. Bison, for example, resulted in Sigma donning a cape, which is not usually part of his outfit. “It doesn’t affect gameplay too much,” Rogers said. “Usually the animations and the movement of the hero kind of dictate who they are, but Bison now becomes a unique skin for Sigma because of the cape; no other Sigma skin has that.” The best parts of designing the skins, however, were when the animators could inject parts of the Street Fighter character’s background into unexpected places. Hanzo as Ryu might seem like it poses a challenge–Ryu is no archer, after all–but the team immediately paired the two as the design process was evolving. “Everything else [with the pair] fits perfectly, but the fact that Hanzo’s an archer? We thought, ‘Well, everyone else has guns,'” Arnold Tsang said. “If Ryu was going to be in Overwatch, he’d probably pick up the bow in favor of something else.” The Hanzo pairing also let Tsang add that unexpected reference too–“In Street Fighter, Ryu has that white bag he usually travels with,” Tsang explains. “If you look at the Hanzo skin, his quiver isn’t actually a holder for the arrows. It looks more like that duffel bag, to mimic the traveling Ryu.” Overwatch 2 X Street Fighter Overwatch Fighter When asked if the team was surprised by how naturally the two properties fit together, Tsang says he knew immediately it would work, simply because Street Fighter is “in the DNA” of both Overwatch and his own artistic approach. “I learned how to draw by studying the Street Fighter and Capcom artists,” Tsang explains. He attributes this to why, from a visual perspective, the two sides meshed so well together. “I remember in the beginning, when we were making the game, we had our first few heroes, and one of the big decisions we made was we wanted heroes from different countries,” Tsang says.”That was hugely inspired by Street Fighter; I used to have a poster where I would see the different characters and the little flag beside their names. So, when we made Overwatch, I thought ‘Let’s bring some of that energy into the game and have all these characters from different countries, influenced by their culture.’ Some of that DNA is there, in these heroes from all around the world coming together.” Now that Street Fighter is entering Overwatch, what if the roles were reversed and a hero for Overwatch joined the battle in Street Fighter? Tsang has a few ideas on who might best fit on the Street Fighter roster from the Overwatch squad. “Genji and Doomfist are melee characters, so those are no-brainers,” Tsang says. “A lot of the heroes have guns, so it’s harder to imagine how they’d fit into a traditional fighting game, as it makes the martial arts aspect less creative. Hanzo has a bow, but he also has the sword; he could use that too.” Eventually, Tsang settles on one of the first names he mentioned: Doomfist, who according to Tsang, was “designed to be a fighting game character, basically.” The Overwatch x Street Fighter collaboration begins May 20 on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. 24. Witness testimony resumes in sex trafficking case Witness testimony resumes in sex trafficking case The trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs continues in Manhattan federal court, where the 55-year-old hip-hop mogul is facing charges of sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. Federal prosecutors say that for decades, Combs abused, threatened and coerced women to participate in marathon ******* encounters called “freak offs,” and used his business empire, along with guns, kidnapping and arson, to conceal his crimes. Dawn Richard, one of the singers of the girl group Danity Kane, and Kerry Morgan, Cassie Ventura’s former best friend, testified on Monday. Richard and Morgan said they each witnessed Combs physically assault Ventura on multiple occasions. Last week, Ventura spent four days on the witness stand, telling the court her decade-long relationship with Combs was marked by violence and physical abuse. Ventura, who is eight months pregnant, described in detail the drug-fueled “freak offs” that would take days to recover from. Jurors were also shown a 2016 surveillance video of Combs hitting, kicking and dragging Ventura in the hallway of a Los Angeles hotel. The defense team presented hundreds of text messages between Ventura and Combs in an attempt to show that Ventura was a consensual participant in the “freak offs,” sometimes even planning them herself. Combs has pleaded not guilty. If convicted, he could face life in prison. He is being held without bail in a Brooklyn jail. A jury of 12 New Yorkers and six alternates will decide his fate. The trial is expected to last at least eight weeks. You can read our coverage of week one of the trial here. 25. Emergency Call 112: The Attack Squad brings realistic firefighting simulation to mobile Emergency Call 112: The Attack Squad brings realistic firefighting simulation to mobile Emergency Call 112: The Attack Squad brings firefighting simulation to mobile Take on a whole host of fires, from burning sheds to life-threatening housefires Use realistic firefighting equipment and save lives There’s a seeming stereotype for ******* developers and players that they love nothing better than a granular simulator. That’s not strictly true, of course, Euro Truck Simulator is developed by a Czech studio, and Farming Simulator by a Swiss one! But Germany certainly boasts plenty of realism-focused developers, like Aerosoft and their latest release, Emergency Call 112. Named after the European equivalent of 911, Emergency Call 112 sees you step into the boots of an elite firefighting crew. As you might expect, that means you’ll handle everything from sheds set alight to deadly housefires and decide how to tackle each incident. At your disposal, you’ll have all manner of realistic firefighting equipment. From the familiar extendable ladder, to pickaxes, and a variety of hoses. It’s not always as simple as just running up and spraying the fire with water, and whether it’s the potential for a gas explosion or human lives in the equation, you’ll have to make quick and critical decisions. It’s an emergency! Aerosoft are certainly ambitious to bring something like Emergency Call 112: The Attack Squad to mobile. I don’t think even they would dispute that this is aimed firmly at an audience of enthusiasts, and presumably a pretty niche one. At the same time, Emergency Call 112 comes packed with enough features and variety, including plenty of different missions to tackle, that even for those of you who aren’t devoted simulationists, there may be enough novelty to make it worth jumping in and seeing if you can beat the heat! But, if you still aren’t convinced, then don’t fret because there are plenty of other great releases out there that are worth trying! Why not check out our list of the top 12 best indies that we saw during Pocket Gamer Connects Dubai, for example, and find some of the underrated releases from across the ocean!
