The Last of Us Showrunners Completely Butchered Ellie’s Brainpower for Joel’s Death Scene Drama in Season 2
The Last of Us Showrunners Completely Butchered Ellie’s Brainpower for Joel’s Death Scene Drama in Season 2
Fans of The Last of Us TV show recently went through the trauma that gamers went through when they first played The Last of Us Part II. The show is based on the video game franchise developed by Naughty Dog. However, fans of the franchise believe that the show is nothing like the game. The poor casting choices aren’t the only thing that is ruining the show; it is also the fact that the characters in the show are nothing like the video game characters.
The show has portrayed Ellie as someone who’s not smart enough to survive during an apocalypse. This was not the case in the video game, as Ellie was strategic and smart, which might be quite the opposite of Bella Ramsey’s Ellie.
Fans believe that Ellie has been dumbed down in The Last of Us season 2
The Last of Us season 2 is all set to get wrapped up on May 25, 2025, with its seventh and final episode. Enough time has passed, and fans are now sharing their thoughts on the second season. Right off the bat, fans have noticed that Ellie went through a tremendous change, but a change that no one was expecting. Bella Ramsey’s Ellie feels like she has been dumbed down to a character who cannot function without Dina. A viral post on the r/thelastofus subreddit highlights multiple instances of this.
Some would say that Ellie went through a traumatic experience, so now she is laser-focused on her revenge, but that didn’t exactly happen in the video game. Ellie was resourceful and strategic throughout The Last of Us Part II. Clearly, her character has been dumbed down in order to develop her relationship with Dina, but it’s infuriating for the fans to see that the show Ellie is nothing like the video game Ellie.
There are arguments that the show is just an adaptation of the series, so recreating the same elements from a video game can be a difficult task. However, that doesn’t mean the showrunners would completely change characters like this. This could only work if The Last of Us series was like a standalone show rather than an adaptation of the game.
The Last of Us season 2 completely ignores the small details
The Last of Us show overlooks some small details (Image via HBO)
Another reason why The Last of Us season 2 feels weak is due to its lack of attention to detail. For example, there are scenes where characters wear spotless clothes or have their hair and skin in flawless condition in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.
This makes no sense and literally takes away the depth of the show. The Walking Dead TV series did a great job with the costumes, so it’s something that viewers cannot ignore.
It is exciting to see how the final episode of the series will turn out. The game allows players to kill Abby or let her go, so the showrunners will have to make a decision that suits the story.

US debt downgrade drives up borrowing costs
US debt downgrade drives up borrowing costs
AFP/Getty
A sign showing the US national debt in April. It has since risen to more than $36tn
Investors might have hoped the turmoil that hit financial markets last month was over. But another bout of volatility in US borrowing costs is a sign that worries continue to bubble.
The interest rate on the US government’s long-term debt surpassed the 5% on Monday, before retreating slightly. That was the highest level since October 2023.
It came after Moody’s downgraded the US government’s credit rating on Friday, citing the rising debt over the past decade.
Congress is meanwhile advancing a tax-and-spending bill that would add trillions to the US government’s $36tn in debt.
What is a government bond?
When a government wants to borrow money, it usually does so by selling bonds – sometimes called Treasuries – to investors on financial markets.
Investors buy the bond, providing the government with cash, and are typically repaid, plus interest over a number of pre-agreed years.
Just as with a regular loan, bonds perceived to be risky have higher interest rates, also called yields.
Investors who buy bonds are mainly made up of financial institutions, ranging from pension funds to central banks such as the Bank of England.
Some hold on to the bonds until the term of the loan expires, while others sell them to other investors.
What’s happening with US bonds?
Historically, the US government has been shielded from having to pay high interest rates, because Treasuries have been considered safe.
That is because the US economy has been strong, with stable prices, and the US government was considered a reliable partner, unlikely to default.
The yields on 30-year Treasuries hovered around 3% for much of decade following the 2008 financial crisis.
When it crossed 5% in October 2023, it was the first time it had hit that threshold in 16 years.
The yield on 30-year Treasuries climbed to 5.04% on Monday, up from 4.9% on Friday before the downgrade, before falling back under the 5% mark.
So what are the new risks?
Yields started rising in 2021, as the US was hit by soaring prices after the Covid-19 pandemic.
Concerns reignited last month, after President Donald Trump’s imposition of tariffs globally, which analysts said would hurt the economy and drive up prices.
At the same time, the US has been running up its debt, with little sign of slowdown in sight.
On Friday, Moody’s downgraded the US government’s credit rating, citing the growing debt and little progress toward resolving it.
The move was not unexpected. Moody’s was the last of the three rating agencies to take the step and had warned in 2023 that this might happen.
But the situation it described was underscored when part of Congress voted on Sunday to advance a tax bill that would add at least $3tn to US debt over the next decade.
The “Moody’s downgrade is, effectively, a political assessment, as much as it is an economic one”, wrote Macquarie Bank analyst Thierry Wizman.
“The political and institutional breakdown – in regard to the US’s lack of capacity to ‘course correct’, is the true meaning of the downgrade, rather than the high debt load itself.”
How does this affect ordinary Americans?
According to Moody’s, interest payments in the US are on a path to consume 30% of the federal government’s revenue by 2035, compared with 9% in 2021.
If the US government is spending more on debt interest repayments, it can affect budgets and public spending as it becomes more costly for the government to sustain itself.
Just as importantly, interest rates for the government typically influence interest rates charged on other kinds of loans, such as mortgages or credit cards.
So higher interest rates for the government mean higher interest rates for households and businesses, too.
Businesses, especially small ones, are likely to be hardest hit by any immediate change in borrowing rates, as most homeowners in the US have fixed-rate deals of between 15 and 30 years.
If businesses can’t get access to credit, that can halt economic growth and lead to job losses over time.
First-time buyers and those wishing to move home could also face higher costs.

Neil Druckmann is working on a second unannounced game at Naughty Dog
Neil Druckmann is working on a second unannounced game at Naughty Dog
The Last of Us director Neil Druckmann has revealed he’s involved in a second unannounced project at Naughty Dog, alongside his sci-fi game Intergalactic.
Naughty Dog has historically struggled to work on multiple games simultaneously, and following the cancellation of its The Last of Us online game 17 months ago, it was unclear whether it would be destined to continue focusing on a solo project, even though it insisted at the time it was planning multiple games.
Now, speaking to the Press X to Continue podcast, Druckmann has reiterated that Naughty Dog is still working on at least two projects, and confirmed that he is producing an unannounced game alongside Intergalactic.
“We have several directors on Intergalactic,” he said. “I work with two game directors: Matthew Gallant and Kurt Margenau, [and] I have a co-writer in Clair Carré.
“So there are times when I’m away and they are in charge, and I get to come back and be surprised and enjoy certain choices they made, and other ones I pull my hair out over and we have to change course or argue about it”.
He continued: “Then there’s another game that’s being worked on at Naughty Dog where I’m in more of a producer role and I get to mentor, watch this other team, and give feedback and be the executive in the room. “I enjoy all those roles, and the fact that I jump from one to the next makes my job very exciting and always feeling fresh. I’m never bored.”
Druckmann’s comments suggest that at least two prominent game directors, Shaun Escayg (Uncharted: The Lost Legacy), and Anthony Newman (The Last of Us: Part II) could be working on unannounced projects.
Naughty Dog has historically struggled to maintain multiple projects.
Former Naughty Dog president Evan Wells admitted in a 2021 interview that the studio was still struggling to fully implement a multi-project development strategy, following the release of The Last of Us: Part II.
The PlayStation studio first attempted to embrace a multi-project model following the completion of 2009’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, with designers Bruce Straley and Neil Druckmann establishing a second team to create The Last of Us, alongside the group working on a third Uncharted.
However, Wells told Game Maker’s Notebook that Naughty Dog was ultimately unable to maintain two full productions, with one project inevitably gaining favour and pulling resources from the other, and that it was an issue the studio still struggled with in 2021.
“The amount of effort that was required to finish Uncharted 3 at the time was stealing resources away from The Last of Us, and we never got to the point where we had two full productions going,” he said.
“I would say even today, we’re just short of that. We definitely have multiple projects, but only one that is getting the lion’s share of focus at any time.
“We don’t have two projects that have several hundred people on them. We have one [project] and then some that are in pre-production, or maybe just creeping out of pre-production, but will have to wait until the main focus has completed before we move everybody off of that project.”

Anthony Albanese presents Pope with $40 bottle of wine after securing first audience with pontiff in 16 years
Anthony Albanese presents Pope with $40 bottle of wine after securing first audience with pontiff in 16 years
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has presented Pope Leo with a bottle of *********** red wine that retails at Dan Murphy’s for $41 and an indigenous artwork after securing Australia’s first meeting with a pontiff in 16 years.
Pope Leo in return blessed the rosary beads that belonged to Maryanne Ellery, Mr Albanese’s mother who the prime minister told the Pope on Sunday would be ‘smiling down from heaven’ at their encounter.
The ******** said the Pope discussed religious freedom.
“An exchange of views then took place on the socio-political situation of the country, focusing in particular on themes of mutual interest, including environmental protection, integral human development and the freedom of religion,” the ******** said.
Mr Albanese formally invited the Pope to visit Australia in 2028 for World Ecumenical Day.
The prime minister’s visit came as Australia’s new Ambassador to the Holy See Keith Pitt told The Nightly that the Catholic Church remained relevant to Australia’s strategic interests and cited its charitable work in the Pacific as a prime example.
The former Liberal National MP Keith Pitt only arrived in Rome six weeks ago, after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese reached across the political aisle to personally appoint him Ambassador before the election.
He is so newly arrived in the Italian capital, he did not have the opportunity to present his credentials to the late Pope Francis before his death meaning that as Ambassador-designate, he was not able to meet the new Pontiff alongside the Prime Minister inside the Basilica after Pope Leo XIV’s inaugural mass on Sunday.
Neither was he able to attend Mr Albanese’s private audience late Monday afternoon local time with the new Pope at the Apostolic Palace inside ******** City.
Mr Albanese was one of a string of the 151 world leaders and dignitaries the Pontiff received after they attended his first mass under the hot Roman sun on Sunday morning, along with 150,000 well-wishers who gathered in St Peter’s Square and lined the streets.
The most high profile VIP was US Vice President JD Vance, who is a devout Catholic and was one of the late Pope Francis’ final visitors.
Mr Vance presented Pope Leo, a Chicago native with a Chicago Bears jersey with the name “Pope Leo” and “XIV” on the back.
His office released a statement that said they discussed the persecution of Christians around the world, and the shared commitment of President Trump and Pope Leo XIV to stop the killing in Ukraine and the Middle East.
Mr Albanese is not a devout Catholic like Mr Vance but nominates his Catholic upbringing as one of his three great faiths, alongside the South Sydney Rabbitohs football club and the Labor party.
During his 40-minute audience, he gave the Pope a bottle of 2021 Penfolds Bin 28 Shiraz, which Dan Murphy’s values at $41, and an indigenous artwork.
The piece, measuring 320mm x 45mm x 420mm is an acrylic on canvas by Amanda Westley.
It is called ‘Raukkan’ which means “meeting place” in Westley’s Ngarrindjeri community around 80 kilometres southeast of Adelaide.
The choice of gifts may have been last-minute choices, given the prime minister only confirmed a week after his landslide re-election that he would be attending the Pope’s mass, extending what was originally going to be his first post-victory visit to Jakarta into a seven-day trip encompassing Europe.
Speaking to The Nightly in an exclusive interview conducted in his office overlooking the ********, Mr Pitt endorsed the prime minister’s decision to extend his trip beyond Indonesia.
“It is important that we send delegations of the highest level, so the Governor-General attended the ******** — the prime minister is here for the inauguration,” he said.
“That is just an important reflection of the significance of the event and the work of the Church and the Pope in particular.
“Imagine if we didn’t come, imagine if we weren’t here.
“The fact that you’ve got such high-level delegations, at the ******** in particular.
“It was extraordinary, firstly the level of mourning and grief from people, even I thought, ‘wow, it actually means something to them.’”
Asked what interests Australia was advancing in the Catholic Church, Mr Pitt said its charitable work in the Pacific, which is the target of fierce competition between China and the West, was key.
“If you look at an area like the Pacific for example … there’s a Cardinal for Tonga for example,” he said.
“The ******** sometimes helps make those quieter voices heard.
“It’s a critical area for Australia.
“When you look at the fact that there’s over 1.2 billion Catholics around the world and the amount of significant work that the Church does, that’s why it’s critical.
“It’s not just about the fact that it’s a faith-based organisation, it’s a global institution that has significant influence — and it’s it’s own country.”
Asked if Australia was pushing for the Church to increase its footprint in the region, Mr Pitt said: “Absolutely.”
“They are obviously incredibly strong advocates for peace around the world in those conflict zones.”
He said the church, which and has been plagued by child-******* abuse scandals over decades, stood for gender equality, climate change and safeguarding children from abuse online.
“I think that’s quite a change.
“They’ve made significant changes in recent years,” he said.
“Pope Francis made a public apology, that’s a very significant step.
“He’s established what’s called a pontifical commission …. there’s always more to do.
“And it’s one of the things that is incredibly important to the *********** government and it’s an incredibly strong part of what we do and our advocacy here.”
He praised Pope Leo’s recent intervention on artificial intelligence.
“Even I was surprised at the level of involvement, engagement, the understanding of artificial intelligence that Pope Leo has demonstrated,” he said.
“Pope Francis in particular made some changes in the time he was Pope and we shouldn’t assume what Pope Leo might do.”
He insisted the Church’s geopolitical activities were not inconsistent with its teachings that forbid women priests, marriage, homosexuality and abortion or the *********** government’s positions on the same issues.
“That’s the reason why you have an embassy here, to put forward those views, to try and create influence, to try and get outcomes that matter to the *********** people.”
But he said it was for the Church to decide whether it wanted to modernise to attract new followers.
“What the Church does in terms of its teachings and the way it moves forward in the future is entirely up to the Church,” he said.
“It’s not up to me to try and tell them how they run their own institutions.”
Mr Pitt, who represented Hinkler in Bundaberg for the LNP declined to comment on whether he sought the posting because he saw the Coalition’s landslide defeat coming.
“I’m appointed by the Governor General and I don’t want to get in the weeks,” he said.
One of four boys raised Catholic, he described himself as a “poor Catholic” and recounted going to mass in a timber church in central Queensland, and wore white shirts handmade by his mother for his First Communion, one of Catholicism’s sacraments.

JD Vance Is Being Called Out For His “Shockingly Unchristian” Message About Biden’s ******* Diagnosis
JD Vance was in Rome this past weekend for the pope’s inaugural mass.

He met the pope, and luckily, the new pope appears to be alive and well after their encounter…
MSNBC/tiktok.com
If you remember, that wasn’t the case for the last guy.
But I’m not here to talk about that, I’m here to talk about what he had to say coming back on Air Force One about Joe Biden’s ******* diagnosis.
Franco Origlia / Getty Images
So, I’m sure you’ve seen Donald Trump’s very un-Donald Trump-like response to the news:
Well, JD Vance had a more typical Trump-like response to it. Here’s how he answered a simple question about if he had any thoughts about the diagnosis:
cspanofficial/tiktok.com
“Look, I mean, first of all, of course, we wish the best for the former president’s health. It sounds pretty serious, but hopefully he makes the right recovery. Look, I-I-I will say,” he stutters. “Whether the right time to have this conversation is now or some point in the future, we really need to be honest about whether the former president was capable of doing the job. And that’s no, you can separate the desire for him to have the right health outcome with the recognition that whether it was doctors or whether it was staffers around the former president, I don’t think he was able to do a good job for the American people. That’s not politics, that’s not because I disagreed with him on policy. That’s because I don’t think he was in good enough health.”
“In some ways, I blame him less than I blame the people around him. Why didn’t the American people have a better sense of his health picture? Why didn’t the American people have more accurate information about what he was actually dealing with? This is serious stuff,” he continued. “This is the guy that carries around the nuclear football for the world’s largest nuclear arsenal. This is not child’s play. And we can pray for good health, but also recognize that if you’re not in good enough health to do the job, then you shouldn’t be doing the job.”
People in the comments aren’t loving his comments; frankly, they’re kind of disgusted by them.
People are calling it “shockingly unchristian.”
Other people are calling it a “complete asinine response.”
And this person asked, “What does this point have to do with his ******* diagnosis?”
@ChrisDJackson said, “Jesus Christ. These people are just ghouls. Plain and simple.”
@LuisMorenolg said, “Even Trump had more class than this low life.”
And @Brady_Pac simply shared the new pope’s now infamous tweet:

I tried the trend of using ChatGPT to turn photos into Renaissance paintings: here’s how to do it
I tried the trend of using ChatGPT to turn photos into Renaissance paintings: here’s how to do it
The latest AI image fad reverses the popular use of ChatGPT to update old photos. Now, people are showing off how they turn current photos into oil paintings reminiscent of those produced during the Renaissance. A recent popular Reddit thread demonstrated with a photograph of a man lying in bed that ChatGPT made into a painting that looks a lot like a depiction of a martyr you might see on the wall of a lesser Borgia.
AI is far more likely to take an old headshot and ‘restore’ it by making a headshot of someone who might be the cousin of the person in the original photo. However, thanks to tips shared by others on Reddit and Instagram on how to make it work properly, I cobbled together a prompt that does a pretty good job of turning a modern photo into something that approximates the work of one of the masters.
While I experimented with prompt variations, simply asking ChatGPT to: “Recreate this photograph as a Renaissance oil painting” worked quite well. I eventually settled on a slightly reworked and shortened version of the prompt I used to successfully colorize old photos. The ideal prompt from my experiments is: “Please turn this photograph into a Renaissance painting. Do not change the arrangement, expressions, background, or attire. The new image should overlay the original exactly.”
You may like
The output is quite impressive for either prompt, as you can see from what my colleagues and I got ChatGPT to produce. As with the photograph restoration, this isn’t the same as painting these portraits, but it’s a kind of reimagining of the images in another world where oil paintings are the preferred medium. And since it’s just “Renaissance” style, it’s not nearly as problematic as swiping Studio Ghibli’s style, though you could argue (accurately) that it’s hardly the same as seeing the effort of a real oil painting created now or five hundred years ago. Still, it’s a fun game to see how ChatGPT processes current photos through the palette of an oil painter.
Man’s best friend
First up, a photo from a fellow dog-lover at TechRadar shows him giving a big hug and kiss to his French bulldog. It’s a great photo on its own. The recreation gets the important things right, showing how happy he is with his dog, even if his dog looks a little squished.
It’s not a perfect recreation since the dog’s front left paw is now under his owner’s arm, the cushion patterns are different, and, most importantly, the tattoos are far from identical. Maybe it’s a realistic depiction of what tattoos back then would look like. Still, from a distance, it’s undeniably the same photo transformed into oil. Let’s say the differences come from it being painted by an apprentice, not the master of a studio.
More puppy love
As a fan of dogs, I decided to make an image using a photograph (with her permission) of my wife with our dog. The painting captured both my wife’s outfit and how relaxed the dog is in her arms.
Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.
While I wouldn’t call the faces identical, the expressions of both the woman and dog are spot-on, and the outfit even has most of the same folds in it. The only major difference is that the outdoor rock steps seem to have been transplanted to inside a cave.
Archery AI
I decided it would be good to see how the AI performed when the photo had a little more connection to the Renaissance, or as much as a Renaissance fair ever can. I used a photograph of my wife testing her archery skills at the fair. I won’t say that it turned her into an epic warrior-in-training preparing to defend her village, but it’s a pretty impressive remake of the moment, including her pose and outfit.
Renaissance dinosaurs
Another colleague sent me his attempt with the trend, starting with a picture of him gazing in awe at a robot dinosaur with theatrical awe, bathed in suburban daylight. The AI remake transforms this scene into a Renaissance drama with a living dinosaur.
My colleague is apparently in the midst of discovering a long-extinct species of dinosaur, and it looks like he’s unsure how it happened. The light shifts from casual morning to candlelit reverence, and the dinosaur’s expression is either friendly or hungry. Impressively, the t-shirt not only maintains the words from the original image, but also the font.
Fairies and dragons
I was amazed that ChatGPT decided a toy should be a living animal, so I went ahead and used the prompt with a photo of my wife as a woodland fairy and my young son as a dragon. As you can see, ChatGPT made the same transformation. The obviously fake pointy ears and plastic wings become natural parts of my wife’s body, oh, and my costume-clad toddler is now a baby dragon. He’s turned into a fully rendered beastlet, complete with shimmering scales and just a hint of danger in its glowing eyes. The location is vague, and the lighting matches a painting of the time, but it’s undeniably a fantasy scene.
It’s not clear why the AI decided a costume or a toy should be an actual animal, or even why fake ears and wings should be treated like the real thing. But it’s just a vagary of AI. When I tried again, the result was far closer to reality, putting the child in a costume instead of deciding it’s a real dragon, so it’s worth retrying the prompt if the result leaves you unsatisfied. My wife remains a fae queen of the forest in the new image, but that’s just fine with me.

Helldivers 2 Fans Are Starting Their Perma-Death Runs as Squids Invade Super Earth
Helldivers 2 Fans Are Starting Their Perma-Death Runs as Squids Invade Super Earth
Helldivers 2 is in a bit of a flux at present, with the Illuminate targeting Super Earth as part of the newest update. In a rather predictable turn of events, the Illuminate have emerged from the Meridian Singularity and are now set to launch a massive frontal attack on Super Earth.
Needless to say, excitement is at an all-time high, and many have taken it upon themselves to start preparing for it. In particular, certain players have already prepped for perma-death runs, aiming to lay their lives down for the protection of Super Earth.
The Illuminate are set to invade Super Earth in Helldivers 2
As mentioned in an official PlayStation Blog post, a Squid invasion (that is, the Illuminate) of Super Earth is imminent. Players will have to band together to stop this new threat and protect the ideals of democracy for Super Earth by participating in a glorious battle!
The Illuminate will not go down without a fight | Image Credits: Arrowhead Game Studios
Naturally, the Illuminate are not going down without a fight either. They have evolved multiple moves to target the colonies (and soldiers) of Super Earth. These include, but are not limited to, the Fleshmob, Stingray: Jetfighters, and finally, the Crescent Overseer.
All three enemy variants will be a challenge to face off against, and the event is expected to be quite large in scale. The invasion is likely poised for the weekend, and should provide the game a surge in its active player base – something which was desperately needed, if we’re being honest here.
For the uninitiated, the Illuminate are an advanced race of squid-like humanoids that predate humanity by several millennia. The Illuminate approached Super-Earth with terms of peace and prosperity, but ultimately faced rejection and brutal opposition from their supposed allies.
Entering through the wormhole | Image Credits: Arrowhead Game Studios
This act drove the Illuminate far away from our galaxy, where they secretly plotted revenge for the First Galactic War. Now, they seem to have returned during the events of the Second Galactic War to have a chance at retribution.
What will follow is likely a cataclysmic event, where thousands of Helldivers will be laid to waste.
Players are quite ready for the challenge
To say that the Illuminate invasion is one of the more exciting events taking place in the Helldivers canon would be an understatement. Players have been looking forward to this ever since the arrival of the massive wormhole was revealed.
This is very likely to result in the death of multiple Helldivers, and could result in the spawning of new characters from these affected players. As such, players can be assumed to be making a ‘perma-death’ run in Helldivers 2 ahead of the Illuminate invasion.
Fighting with the ghosts of fallen Helldivers should be quite the experience and make for a great role-playing session.
Yes, there will be a lot of death, suffering, and losses – but the sacrifice of a better future for Super Earth, and the ongoing reign of managed democracy, is sure to sway the soldiers’ hearts in favor of the management!

Amazon: Why May Is the Last Month to Get the Stock at a Discount
Amazon: Why May Is the Last Month to Get the Stock at a Discount
Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:). closed just above $205 on Friday, marking a sharp recovery of nearly 30% since its April low. The latest burst of momentum has come on the back of improving trade relations between the U.S. and China, a development with direct implications for the tech giant’s business model.
Now trading near its highest levels since February, the stock is regaining its leadership position in the market, and there’s growing reason to believe that May could be the last chance to buy it around the $200 level.
Much of the rebound was triggered by news earlier this month that the U.S. and China had agreed to revise certain tariffs temporarily while broader trade negotiations continued. Amazon was one of the immediate beneficiaries, jumping close to 10% in a single session and attracting heavy institutional interest.
A Direct Boost From Tariff Relief
Few large-cap companies are as directly exposed to trade policy as Amazon. Tariffs on ******** imports raise costs across Amazon’s vast e-commerce platform, affecting both its own retail operations and the network of third-party sellers who now account for roughly 60% of sales on the site.
These cost pressures ultimately feed through to consumers and can hurt demand.
Moving production away from China isn’t a quick fix either. Analysts have consistently pointed out that relocating manufacturing operations is a lengthy, expensive process, which is why tariff relief has an outsized impact on sentiment and future margin expectations.
Amazon had even considered displaying additional tariff costs in addition to product prices for transparency, though that idea was abandoned due to political pressure.
With trade tensions easing, Amazon gets a near-term margin boost and longer-term stability. That’s helped remove one of the biggest overhangs on the stock and has given analysts reasons to be even more bullish on Amazon’s potential.
Analysts See Significant Upside for AMZN
In the past few weeks alone, JMP Securities, UBS Group, Tigress Financial, and Citi have all issued bullish reports on Amazon, maintaining Buy or equivalent ratings. Tigress Financial stands out with a $305 price target, which implies nearly 50% upside from Friday’s close.
Achieving that level would break through recent resistance and carry Amazon well past its all-time high near the $240 mark.
So what’s driving that optimism? Analysts are pointing to a mix of improving macro conditions, Amazon’s leadership in cloud and advertising, and its ongoing cost discipline across logistics and fulfillment.
Recent earnings have confirmed margin expansion in key areas, and with consumer demand holding up, the setup is increasingly attractive.
The Technicals Support the Rally
From a technical perspective, Amazon’s chart looks strong. The MACD remains in a bullish configuration, and the RSI sits around 60 — elevated but far from overbought. The stock is riding above its 50-day and 200-day moving averages with conviction, and volume has picked up on up days.
Broader market trends are also supportive. The S&P 500 has been steadily recovering from its early-year dip, and risk appetite is returning to growth stocks, particularly those with proven earnings power. Amazon ticks all the right boxes here, and the technical setup suggests further gains are well within reach.
Why the Clock May Be Ticking
Amazon has made a big move off the lows, but the quality and sustainability of that move stand out. This isn’t just a short squeeze or reactionary rally; it’s a fundamentally supported surge backed by margin expansion, improving macro conditions, and growing analyst conviction.
If current tailwinds persist, May could represent the last window for investors to pick up shares close to the $200 level. The upside case has rarely looked stronger with trade overhangs lifting and price targets clustering around $300.

Biden diagnosis prompts queries about health in office
Biden diagnosis prompts queries about health in office
Former US president Joe Biden’s ******* announcement has revived questions about the extent of his health issues during his tenure, with Vice President JD Vance saying Biden should have been more transparent with the public.
“Why didn’t the American people have a better sense of his health picture? Why didn’t the American people have more accurate information about what he was actually dealing with? This is serious stuff,” Vance told reporters as he wrapped up a trip to Rome.
He wished Biden “the right recovery”.
The remarks by Vance, a Republican, captured the renewed focus on the health of the 82-year-old Democratic former president with the publication of a book that details widespread concerns about Biden’s mental acuity among aides and Democratic insiders as he pursued re-election in 2024.
Excerpts from the book have prompted new questions about whether critical information was withheld from the US public about Biden’s ability to serve in the White House.
Biden’s closest aides have dismissed those concerns, saying Biden was fully capable of making important decisions.
A spokesperson for Biden did not immediately return a Reuters request for comment.
Biden has appeared on television to reject accusations that his mental capacity had diminished during his 2021-2025 term.
“There’s nothing to sustain that,” he said on ABC’s The View on May 8.
Biden, the oldest person ever to serve as US president, was forced to drop his re-election bid last July after a stumbling debate performance against Republican rival Donald Trump eroded his support among fellow Democrats.
Biden’s vice president, Kamala Harris, launched a bid of her own but lost to Trump in the November 2024 election.
Biden’s office said he had been diagnosed on Friday with prostate ******* that has spread to his bones.
Several doctors told Reuters that cancers like this are typically diagnosed before they reach such an advanced stage.
“I would assume the former president gets a very thorough physical every year,” said Dr Chris George, medical director of the ******* program at Northwestern Health Network.
“It’s sort of hard for me to believe that he’s had a (blood test) within the past year that was normal.”
Dr Herbert Lepor, a urologist at NYU Langone Health, said that given the available screening options, “it is a bit unusual in the modern era to detect cancers at this late stage”.
About 70 per cent of prostate ******* cases were diagnosed before they spread to other organs, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
US guidelines do not recommend annual blood screening for men over 70 and it is unclear whether the annual presidential exam would have included those tests.
A new book, Original Sin, by journalists Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson put a spotlight on Biden’s mental acuity in his final months in office.
“It was a mistake for Democrats to not listen to the voters earlier,” US Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut, a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate, said on NBC on Sunday.
Biden faced no serious challenge for the 2024 Democratic nomination, and party leaders repeatedly vouched for his ability to serve a second four-year term even though a Reuters/Ipsos poll suggested 74 per cent of voters in January 2024 thought he was too old for the job.
Biden’s ******* diagnosis drew an outpouring of sympathy from supporters and rivals alike, including Trump.
Biden thanked the public on behalf of his wife and himself for their support in a social media post released early on Monday.
“******* touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support,” he said.

Where to buy Nvidia’s RTX 5060 8GB GPU
Where to buy Nvidia’s RTX 5060 8GB GPU
Following some very closely guarded previews, the new Nvidia RTX 5060 is now available to buy, delivering budget performance to users and just 8GB of VRAM starting at $299 (MSRP). It’s a 1080p card that promises decent framerates, but we’re yet to complete unfettered testing to determine where it ranks among the best GPUs and our overall GPU benchmarking hierarchy.
Unveiled in April, the 5060 follows the RTX 5060 Ti, which launched April 16 at prices of $429 and $379 for the 8GB or 16GB model,s respectively.
Like the Ti, the 5060 includes DLSS, 4 including Multi Frame Generation and Super Resolution, as well as Nvidia Reflex.
The drivers were released on May 19 alongside the card, which has precluded reviews going out ahead of release.
Over the weekend, select outlets published preview articles with strict criteria about which games could be tested and using which settings.
As you might imagine, these very favorable conditions yielded up to 25% performance boosts over Nvidia’s RTX 4060. Reportedly, Nvidia only sanctioned Avowed, Doom: The Dark Ages, Marvel Rivals, Cyberpunk 2077, and Hogwarts Legacy as review titles, with comparisons limited to the RTX 3060 and RTX 2060 Super, with resolution fixed at 1080p, ultra image quality, DLSS in quality mode, and ray tracing. Settings were also limited to running frame generation exclusively.
This has naturally yielded fairly positive results thus far for obvious reasons. From the available figures, the 5060 trails the Ti variant by around 15% on average when using 2x DLSS, but appears to show performance increases of up to 25% over the RTX 4060 running titles like Cyberpunk 2077.
Naturally, we’d recommend waiting for full reviews (including our own, which is on the way) before making the purchase. However, if you’d like to look at stock or have no qualms about taking the plunge, here’s where you can buy one.

Sheriff says ‘defective’ locks were a key factor in Louisiana jailbreak by 10 men
Sheriff says ‘defective’ locks were a key factor in Louisiana jailbreak by 10 men
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Just days before 10 men broke out of a New Orleans jail, officials with the sheriff’s office asked for money to fix faulty locks and cell doors deemed a key factor in the escape.
As the manhunt for the remaining seven fugitives stretches into a new week, officials continue to investigate who or what was to blame in a jailbreak that even the escapees labeled as “easy” — in a message scrawled on a wall above the narrow hole they squeezed through.
Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson said she has long raised concerns about the jail’s ongoing “deficiencies,” adding that the breakout has “once again highlighted the critical need for repairs and upgrades” to the ailing infrastructure.
The men yanked open a cell door, slipped through a hole behind a toilet, scaled a barbed wire fence and fled from the jail early Friday, recorded surveillance video showed.
Four days earlier, Jeworski “Jay” Mallet — the Chief of Corrections for the Orleans Justice Center — presented a need for a new lock system during the city’s Capital Improvement Plan hearing.
Mallet said the current system at the jail, which houses around 1,400 people, was built for a “minimum custody type of inmate.”
But he classified many at the jail as “high security” inmates who are awaiting trials for violent offenses, including charges such as *******, assault and *****. He said many require a “restrictive housing environment that did not exist” at the jail and, as a result, the sheriff’s office has transferred dozens in custody to more secure locations.
Mallet went on to say that some of the cell unit doors and locks have been “manipulated” to the point that not only are they not secure, but some can’t even be closed properly.
Hutson said the men “yanked” on a locked cell door “to pull it off its track.” They then squeezed through a hole behind a toilet, exited a loading dock door before climbing a barbed-wire fence using blankets and running across a nearby interstate in early morning darkness.
“These are the cells that we keep saying we need to replace at great cost in this facility,” Hutson said.
Since becoming sheriff in 2022, Hutson said she has complained about the locks at every turn and advocated for additional funding to make the facility more secure.
“I wrote a letter to the consent decree judge, to the city council, and everybody else who would listen, and every time I go to budget, I say the exact same thing,” Hutson said.
New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said during a news conference on Sunday that funding for the jail has been “a priority” and that funding has been allocated to the sheriff’s office for operating expenses and capital improvements. Bianka Brown, the chief financial officer for the sheriff’s office, said the current budget “doesn’t support what we need” to ensure critical fixes and upgrades.
“Things are being deprived,” Brown said of the jail, which for more than a decade has been subject to federal monitoring and a consent decree intended to improve conditions. The jail, which opened in 2015, replaced another facility that had its own history of escapes and violence.
While Hutson said the locks played a key role in the escape, there are other crucial elements that officials have outlined; Indications that the escape may have been an inside job, with three sheriff’s employees now on suspension; the hole that officials said may have been formed using power tools; a lack of monitoring of the cell pod, as the employee tasked with the job had stepped out to grab food; and law enforcement not being aware of the escape until a morning headcount seven hours after the men fled.
Other’s have pointed to Hutson being at fault. State Rep. Aimee Adatto Freeman, who represents much of uptown New Orleans, called for sheriff to step down on Monday.
“Rather than take accountability, she’s pointed fingers elsewhere,” Freeman wrote in a statement. “Blaming funding is a deflection–not an excuse.”
Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry recently announced the state is launching an investigation into who is responsible in the escape. He also directed the state’s Department of Corrections to conduct an audit of the jail’s compliance with basic correctional standards.
“Now there is no excuse for the escape of these violent offenders,” said Landry, a tough-on-crime Republican.
The governor also requested an inventory of pre-trial detainees or those awaiting sentencing in violent cases at the facility, to consider moving them into state custody.
Three of the seven inmates still at large late Monday were convicted of or are facing second-degree ******* charges, authorities said.

Last Of Us Boss Says A Fourth Season Is Essential
Last Of Us Boss Says A Fourth Season Is Essential
HBO’s The Last of Us is about to wrap up its second season, and a third is on the way. Showrunner Craig Mazin has now said it would be impossible to tell the story he and his team have in mind in anything fewer than four seasons, adding that he expects Season 3 will be longer than Season 2.
Mazin told Collider, “There’s no way to complete this narrative in a third season. Hopefully, we’ll earn our keep enough to come back and finish it in a fourth.” Before this, HBO management said The Last of Us would likely end after its fourth season.
The showrunner and writer also assured viewers that the team is always thinking ahead to help map out the future of the show, and so far, Mazin has things mapped out through Season 4.
“We thought ahead to Season 3 and Season 4, to try to get as much visibility as we can, so that we don’t end up in a situation where we’re sitting down and getting into details for a season and then going, ‘Oh, man, if only we hadn’t had that person say that one line or be in that spot or wear that jacket, this would be so much cooler,'” Mazin said.
Mazin also said that viewers should expect Season 2 to end in a dramatic fashion, with a cliffhanger ending. He said it was always the plan for Season 1 to cover the events of the first game and it was always the case that The Last of Us: Part II would need to be told over multiple seasons, which leads to new challenges–and opportunities.
“Now [with Season 2], we’re actually in more of a traditional cliffhangery mode, where you’re telling a story, and then you end the season with something that says, ‘Whoa, this is going to change a whole bunch of things, and we’ll see you when we get back and pick it up from there.’ We ask ourselves a lot of questions and we think about what we ought to do when we think about what the narrative that exists affords us and that we should do,” Mazin said.
It remains to be seen where Season 2 will end the story, but Mazin is hopeful that fans are satisfied. “Hopefully, we set them up to want to return when we come back for the next run,” he said.
Mazin also said he believes there is a “decent chance” that Season 3 is longer than Season 2, “just because the manner of that narrative and the opportunities it affords us are a little different.”
For context, Season 1 had nine episodes, while Season 2 has seven. The Season 2 finale airs this Sunday, May 25.
He said the major character death in Season 2 was “such a narrative nuclear bomb” that the writers couldn’t divert too far from it any any point. In Season 1, the “Long, Long Time” episode diverted from the main story and had a side story about Bill and Frank, but a diversion like this wasn’t possible for Season 2. Something like it, however, may be possible with Season 3.
“I think we’ll have a little more room there,” Mazin said of Season 3.
Season 3 of The Last of Us is likely still a long time off, as the new season hasn’t started filming yet. Fans of the show are used to long waits, as Season 1 wrapped up in March 2023, and it wasn’t until April 2025 that Season 2 debuted. That’s about two years, so if that schedule holds, viewers may not get The Last of Us Season 3 until 2027, but this is just guesswork.
As for the game series, Naughty Dog has not announced any new The Last of Us games following the cancellation of The Last of Us Online in December 2023. The studio is now making a new IP called Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a game that’s mysterious even to the people in it.

Now Playing: Nintendo Switch 2 – Official System Overview Trailer
The carrying case, which goes for $40 on Nintendo’s store, has a flip-down flap that appears to have snug slots to hold up to six games. It also has a zipper pocket, which is shown storing Joy-**** wrist straps.
Nintendo has been steadily rolling out additional details about the upcoming console on the Nintendo Today app. Last week, for instance, we learned that Switch 2’s new GL/GR buttons will be mappable on a per-game basis, providing players additional control customization in comparison to the original Switch. In addition, there are a number of helpful accessibility features coming to the new GameChat functionality.
Switch 2 launches on June 5, but preorders quickly sold out and have since been widely unavailable in the US. Nintendo has said that its higher price point may suppress early adoption, although it is still expecting to sell 15 million Switch 2 consoles in the 2026 fiscal year.

Hay Park Cricket Club to miss out on funding for net upgrades as council only promises ‘minor maintenance’
Hay Park Cricket Club to miss out on funding for net upgrades as council only promises ‘minor maintenance’
The training nets at the Hay Park Cricket Club will not be receiving a $42,000 upgrade despite early suggestions the City of Bunbury would fund the project, with money allocated in the draft budget.
The city will, however, commit to minor maintenance works and said they completed other upgrades in recent years which meant the suggested $42,000 commitment would be withdrawn.
The current infrastructure is damaged and Hay Park Cricket Club president Aaron Worley said it posed a threat to players and passing drivers.
He said the artificial turf was replaced but refuted the city’s statement some fencing and netting was improved in the 2023-24 financial year.
Those nets are still currently broken and Mr Worley saying the nets “required more than minor repairs” and expressed disappointment they weren’t fixed with the original works.
“I just want to be clear that no repairs to netting were carried out when the artificial turf was laid,” he said.
“We had some of the AstroTurf replaced in 2023 and they did some work on the frames of the nets, but not the actual netting itself.
“The current state of the nets, as you can see in the photos, has been like that for some time.
Camera IconClub president Aaron Worley said the nets had been in bad shape for some time. Credit: Supplied
“Last season I spent half a day patching the holes as best I could to make them safe.”
The club was expecting $42,000 to come their way because it was outlined in the draft budget, but have since been informed only minor works would be completed, subject to the finalised 2025-26 budget.
City of Bunbury chief executive Alan Ferris told the Herald “the city has not committed funding to upgrade the Hay Park cricket nets”.
“We have written to the club to inform them that maintenance works will be undertaken, subject to the upcoming 2025-26 budget,” he said.
“This would be part of the city’s operational maintenance of existing infrastructure.
“Given it is minor maintenance work and depending on estimated costs along with budget considerations, we anticipate maintenance work could be undertaken in the first quarter of the 2025-26 financial year.”
According to Mr Ferris, the city replaced artificial turf and repaired some fencing and netting at the club in the 2023-24 financial year.
He denied the claim the city had pulled out of a $42,000 commitment.
“While there was originally some money put aside in the draft financial plan, based on priorities across the entire budget and the fact that works had already been largely carried out in 2023-24, the project was withdrawn,” he said.

Last month, the city agreed to allocate an additional $115,000 to upgrade the practice nets for Colts Cricket Club at the Bunbury Recreation Ground — which will see the three existing nets replaced with five new ones.
However, a similar deal for Hay Park appears to be off the table.
“It’s great for them to get the work done,” Mr Worley said.
“It’s definitely not Hay Park against Colts, it’s more the city being aware that ours were quite run down and they needed the work done.”
Mr Worley said he hoped the city acted to ensure the nets were made safe for the community.

Wish they’d just go back to making a simple fps game like halo. As much as I loved destiny 1, it got absolutely stale and a chore to play after the sequel came out. I ain’t got that kinda time to waste so much on a single game with it’s crazy grind and raids.
Just make a great story singleplayer game with co op optional. Add in traditional classic pvp. Support with some new maps and weapons for a couple of years. That’s it. Move on to the next game and make a new great singleplayer story sequel with it. Unfortunately every dev thinks an fps game needs to be fully live service and chase trends.

China says the U.S. is screwing up trade talks with its move against Huawei
The ******** government issued a blistering statement on Monday, accusing the Trump administration of undercutting ongoing trade talks with Beijing.
The U.S. cautioned against using Huawei’s Ascend semiconductor chips last week, and now the ******** Commerce Ministry says the warning “seriously undermined the consensus reached at the high-level talks between China and the U.S. in Geneva.”
Beijing is now prodding the U.S. government to “correct its mistakes.”
“This practice of using unilateral protectionism to contain and isolate other countries will ultimately undermine the competitiveness of the U.S. industry, and the result can only be to shoot itself in the foot,” the statement said.
The U.S. Commerce Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter.
On May 13, the agency warned that Huawei’s Ascend chips are subject to sweeping export controls that include penalties such as fines and restrictions on export rights. The rules are part of the Trump administration’s efforts (and Biden’s before that) to hold back China’s semiconductor and AI advances.
Beijing’s barrage of criticism underscores the lingering friction between China and the U.S. Both sides have agreed to a temporary tariff truce that led to each country shrinking its triple-digit tariffs on one another. Still, the U.S. has kept a 30% tariff on ******** imports, while China maintains a 10% levy.
The Trump administration is attempting to keep advanced, U.S.-developed chips beyond the reach of China and other nations it considers adversaries. Still, the administration rolled back a Biden-era export rule last week, potentially paving the way for U.S. companies to export advanced chips to certain trade partners without first seeking federal approval.
