Wall Street Rally Corrects the Correction—but for How Long?
Wall Street Rally Corrects the Correction—but for How Long?
With the up about 23% from its April 7th low and just 3% from the February 19th all-time high, the question of the day is how far can the bulls run before taking a much needed a rest?
Yes, it is true that our heroes in horns have produced a handful of healthy “” during the enthusiastic bounce that have historically led to above average returns over the next 1-, 3-, 6-, and 12-month periods. And yes, the market has made quick work of all the technical levels that were supposed to present key resistance. It is also true that despite all the teeth gnashing, this quarter’s earnings season has been largely well received. And then don’t look now fans, but it appears that the White House is more interested in making deals all around the globe than burning down the house.
My take is that the current joyride to the upside, which is now six weeks old, has effectively accomplished a couple things. First, as we’ve discussed, the worst case scenario has been taken off the table. In short, traders spent the seven weeks between February 19 and April 7 assuming the worst. As in surging inflation, crumbling economic growth, and in turn, earnings that were expected to fall off a cliff.
But a funny thing happened on the way to the tariff-induced debacle. Cooler heads prevailed. And it now looks like those economic frowns and disastrous predictions have been turned upside down. From my seat, the sometimes-furious rally has effectively “corrected the correction” as traders have readjusted their views, assumptions, and forecasts.
For example, assumptions about the state of the economy went from worst case to “hey, things might not be so bad after all.” Earnings went from “EPS can only go down” to “Well lookie here, most companies are still beating the estimates.” And those much-feared inflation numbers? So far at least, they simply haven’t shown up.
Panic Early Or Not At All
So… After all the hysterics seen over the last 12 weeks, all the hand wringing, all the fear, and all the predictions made by the all those so-called experts, the S&P 500 now finds itself within spitting distance of where it started. From my perch, this is a perfect example of one of my favorite Wall Street saws related to waterfall declines in the stock market: “Panic early, or not at all!”
However, at some point, all good things on Wall Street tend to come to an end – or at the very least, cool off for a while. As the saying go, markets don’t move in a straight line and trees don’t grow to the sky. Experience teaches us that after nearly every big run in the stock market, something comes out of the woodwork to make investors rethink the idea of buying stocks every single day.
Oftentimes the news itself is inconsequential. Remember, it’s not the news, but rather how the market reacts to the news that matters.
A Big Bearish Headline?
Take the news that Moody’s downgraded the US debt rating after the close on Friday. Granted, the market was not open at the time of the release, but the dropped over 1% in relatively short order.
Could this be the type of thing that causes the bears to get off the bench and back into the game? Sure, why not. After all, stocks are overbought, sentiment has gotten a bit too rosy, and the has reached the lower end of its range. And this, dear readers, is the very definition of a setup for a mean reversion move.
Never mind the fact that Moody’s had warned of the downgrade more than a year ago. Or that Moody’s was very late to this particular party as both Fitch and S&P Global Ratings had already downgraded US debt some time ago. Or that all the ratings agencies basically lost all credibility after 2008.
But the bottom line is that with valuations back at nose bleed levels, the current setup should give the bears an opening here. For a while, anyway.
Earnings Remain A Long Way Off
One of the things that has given the bulls the benefit of any doubt lately has been earnings expectations. For this year and next. You see, consensus EPS estimates for the S&P 500 are still projected to grow by more than +10% (+10.5% to be precise) in 2025. Yes, this is AFTER all the tariff-related cutting analysts have done (so far). And for those keeping score at home, consensus EPS for 2026 currently stands at +15.6%. Yowza.
While it is easy to argue that stocks should be higher than current levels at some point down the road with this kind of expected earnings, the key is those earnings are still a long ways off. And unfortunately, based on the current level of the S&P, the forward P/E ratio is an eye-popping 23.1.
Then if one includes the growth “expected” in 2026 (for the record, analysts’ estimates are usually too high and come down over time), it is important to note that the forward P/E is 20.0. Which of course, isn’t cheap by any stretch.
So… Given the recent run for the roses and the degree of uncertainty that remains on the tariff/economic/inflation/earnings fronts, a pullback is to be expected.
And from my seat, it is the “action” during such a pullback that could provide a “tell” about where things go from here. A modest decline to close a gap on the charts and relieve the overbought condition without any real severity could open the door for the bulls. While a new batch of brutal down days could prove to be a reminder that we may not be out of the woods just yet. We shall see.
Thought for the Day:
Not every person’s opinion is worthy of your attention or consideration…
Wishing you green screens and all the best for a great day,

Wall St drops, Treasury yields rise as US downgraded
Wall St drops, Treasury yields rise as US downgraded
Wall Street’s main indexes have slipped, with technology stocks falling as Treasury yields spiked after Moody’s downgraded the US sovereign rating, sharpening focus on its mounting debt.
Moody’s cut the United States’ sovereign credit rating to “Aa1” from “Aaa” late on Friday owing to concerns about its ballooning $US36-trillion ($A56-trillion) debt, becoming the last of the three major credit rating agencies to downgrade the country.
It had first given the US its pristine “Aaa” rating in 1919.
“Nothing new but it’s putting a lot of things that the market has worried about rightfully back into focus,” said Ross Mayfield, investment strategist at Baird.
“The trade headwinds keep markets volatile but this morning in particular, it’s about the Moody’s downgrade.”
Worries about the ever-increasing US deficit were front and centre as US President Donald Trump’s sweeping tax-cut bill – which Republican infighting over spending cuts had stalled for days – won approval from a key congressional committee on Sunday.
In early trading on Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 222.40 points, or 0.52 per cent, to 42,432.34, the S&P 500 lost 55.42 points, or 0.93 per cent, to 5,902.96, and the Nasdaq Composite lost 257.49 points, or 1.34 per cent, to 18,953.61.
Ten of the 11 S&P sub-sectors fell, with consumer discretionary and energy being the worst performers.
Highly valued technology stocks took a hit as rising rates tend to discount the present value of future profits.
Tesla led losses among megacap and growth stocks with a 4.1 per cent fall.
Chip stocks also sold off.
Nvidia was down 1.4 per cent and a gauge for semiconductor stocks shed 1.9 per cent.
Yields on US government bonds – which move inversely to prices – ticked higher, with the 10-year note rising 9 basis points to 4.526 per cent and the 30-year note touching 4.998 per cent.
The S&P 500 had registered its fifth straight day of gains on Friday, closing out the week with firm gains as markets took heart from a temporary tariff truce between the US and China along with tame inflation data.
US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in television interviews over the weekend that Trump would impose tariffs at the rates he had threatened last month on trading partners that do not negotiate deals in “good faith”.
The US Federal Reserve might only be able to cut interest rates by a quarter point through the rest of the year, Atlanta Fed president Raphael Bostic said, while New York Fed President John Williams said that the interest-rate policy was in the right place to deal with an uncertain economic outlook.
In other moves, Netflix fell almost 1.0 per cent after JPMorgan removed the stock from its US analyst focus list.
TXNM Energy jumped 7.6 per cent after the utility said it would be acquired by the infrastructure unit of Blackstone in an $US11.5-billion deal.
Declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 5.98-to-1 ratio on the NYSE, and by a 2.91-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq.
The S&P 500 posted three new 52-week highs and no new lows while the Nasdaq Composite recorded 10 new highs and 23 new lows.

Cisco Earnings Summary: 5% Free-Cash-Flow Yield Is a Big Plus
Cisco Earnings Summary: 5% Free-Cash-Flow Yield Is a Big Plus
Cisco (NASDAQ:), the former networking giant that is still trying to reshape and reinvent itself, 25 years after the large-cap growth and large-cap technology bull market ended, reported their fiscal Q3 ’25 financial results last week.
Cisco managed to generate a 4% upside in EPS, with a $0.96 print (versus the $0.92 estimate) on a 1% revenue upside surprise.
The non-GAAP operating margin also beat at 34.5%, and Cisco raised guidance for fiscal Q4 ’25.
While AI orders exceeded $600 ml, thus surpassing $1 billion for Cisco, it’s been downplayed since Cisco’s annual revenue is expected to be $56.5 billion in fiscal ’25 versus $53.8 billion in fiscal ’24, thus AI orders are still a small percentage of revenue.
The Splunk (NASDAQ:) acquisition is likely the ******* deal for Cisco, as the acquisition greatly enlarges the security division at Cisco (see historical numbers below), and is expected to be an area of growth for the network giant. Cisco management did say that organic growth numbers will be reported for Splunk after Q4 ’25, or after this quarter end.
Source: earnings report, internal spreadsheet
Readers can see how the Splunk acquisition led to the sharp increase in the security segment as a percentage of Cisco’s revenue and y-o-y growth, but that y-o-y growth – after Q4 ’25 – will start to reflect the true or organic growth rate of the security segment, and not acquired growth.
Conclusion:
This blog has acquired a small position in Cisco and will likely continue to acquire shares, given the free-cash-flow yield of 5%, and the fact that – in this secular bull market for the SP 500 that started in March, 2009 – the stock has dramatically unperformed the , and thus represents an un-correlated or non-correlated security, relative to the benchmark.
With fiscal ’25 ending July 31 for Cisco, full-year ’25 growth will be 1% revenue and 2% EPS (expected) growth, hardly torrid, but the next three fiscal years (’26 – ’28) are expecting 5% revenue growth and 7% EPS growth. Even a disappointment or warning wouldn’t likely dent the stock too much at 15x forward EPS.
The above points were all covered in the , but with uncertain markets, I’m warming up more to the stock.
This blog’s internal model values Cisco closer to $70 – $75, so the discount to perceived fair value isn’t that yawning, while Morningstar’s fair value is mid-$50’s.
The Cisco management team really needs to come up some model to generate faster revenue growth. Business models tend not to last as long in the technology sector, but it’s also easier to reinvent the tech model and morph it into another growth area – like from the cloud to AI – than say a financial or industrial company or retailer changing it’s stripes.
Disclaimer: None of this is advice or a recommendation, but only an opinion. Past performance is no guarantee of future results.

China says U.S. chip warning hurts trade talks
U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, China’s International Trade Representative and Vice Minister of Commerce Li Chenggang, and ******** Vice Premier He Lifeng, prepare to discuss on the day of a bilateral meeting between the U.S. and China, in Geneva, Switzerland, May 10, 2025.

China on Monday accused the United States of undermining the two countries’ preliminary trade agreement after the U.S. issued an industry warning against using ******** chips.
Beijing has “demanded” that the Trump administration “correct its mistakes,” calling the guidance from the U.S. Commerce Department “discriminatory” and “market distorting.”
“China urges the U.S. to immediately correct its wrong practices and stop discriminatory measures against China,” a spokesperson for China’s Ministry of Commerce told a reporter, according to a Google translation of the remarks.
“If the U.S. insists on its own way and continues to substantially damage China’s interests, China will take resolute measures to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests,” the spokesperson said.

Pup Champs brings an adorable rise to the top, with puppies
Pup Champs brings an adorable rise to the top, with puppies
Pup Champs is a football-based puzzler, out now on mobile
It sees you tactically guiding your team through a grid-based puzzle
Line up the perfect goal as you dodge opposing players
It’s a known fact that everything is better with puppies. You only need to look as far as the famous yearly Puppy Bowl, which offers non-football fans the opportunity to watch adorable puppies at play rather than watch the traditional Super Bowl. And while Pup Champs may be about another kind of football entirely, it’s still a welcome mashup!
Pup Champs is also well worth a look anyway, because if you think you know what to expect from these rags-to-riches stories of amateur footballing pups rising up the ranks, you’re probably wrong. Because Pup Champs is no sports sim, it’s a puzzler!
In Pup Champs, your job is to tactically guide your players across a turn-based grid, avoiding opposing players, making passes and eventually setting up the perfect goal. It’s simple to learn, hard to master in the best way, and offers a great little twist on the standard footballing genre.
Woof
The decision to make Pup Champs a puzzler is an interesting one, but it very much fits the aesthetic. The gameplay is also simple and straightforward, but with just enough complexity that it seems to be engaging. You’ll have to cope not just with the aforementioned opposing players, but all manner of quirky obstacles.
I think the last, but not least, feature which will engage players will, of course, be the story. Pup Champs leans more than leans on the cuteness of its concept, and for those of you looking for a simple, fun story, whether for yourself or your kids, Pup Champs looks to be a real champion.
But if you’re looking for something a little more complex, there are plenty more options out there in the puzzle genre. Why not check out our list of the top 25 best puzzle games on iOS and Android for some options?

Xiaomi to Launch ‘Tesla-Challenging’ YU7 on Thursday
Xiaomi to Launch ‘Tesla-Challenging’ YU7 on Thursday
China’s Xiaomi will launch its highly-anticipated YU7 electric sports utility vehicle on Thursday, as well as other products, such as a mobile chip developed by the company, it said.
Analysts have touted the YU7 as a challenger to Tesla’s best-selling Model Y in China, the world’s largest auto market, and Xiaomi had disappointed fans last month by not showcasing the car at the Shanghai autoshow.
Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, said on his Weibo account on Monday that the YU7 will be launched at the event alongside other products, such as the Xring O1 mobile chip and new Xiaomi 15S Pro smartphone.
Xiaomi began manufacturing EVs last year with the launch of the SU7 sedan after selling smartphones, household appliances and smart gadgets for most of its 15-year history. Since December, the SU7 sedan has outsold Tesla’s Model 3 on a monthly basis.
Analysts say it is still outselling, but the company’s orders for its SU7 sedan have fallen following a fatal accident in March involving an SU7.
Apart from EV rivalry, China’s smartphone market has intensified as competitors, including Huawei and Apple, leverage their own custom-designed chips to create tightly integrated ecosystems and enhance user experience.
In a separate Weibo post, Lei said Xiaomi had invested JPY 13.5 billion ($1.87 billion or roughly Rs. 15,984 crore) to self-develop its advanced mobile chip Xring O1 and that it planned to invest at least JPY 50 billion (roughly Rs. 4,27,354 crore) more in chip design over at least 10 years.
A Xiaomi representative told Reuters the JPY 50 billion (roughly Rs. 2,946 crore) investment timeline starts from 2025.
Xiaomi began designing chips in 2014 and launched its first mobile processor, the 28-nm Pengpai S1, in 2017, which debuted in the Xiaomi 5C smartphone.
The company later shifted its focus to less complex chips, including battery management and image chips because of “various setbacks,” Lei said. In 2021, however, the year it decided to start making cars, it also decided to start developing mobile phone chips again.
“Xiaomi has always had a chip dream because in order to become a great hard technology company, chips are a peak that must be climbed,” he said. “We will definitely go all out.”

Microsoft to Support Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol to Power Multi-Agent Workflows: Report
Microsoft to Support Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol to Power Multi-Agent Workflows: Report
Microsoft is reportedly planning to adopt Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) to let multiple artificial intelligence (AI) agents work together. As per the report, the Redmond-based tech giant said that it is focusing on multi-agent workflows and improved memory capability of its agents. The protocol standardises a way for AI chatbots to connect with external data hubs and retrieve information. The adoption of Anthropic’s MCP standard could be announced at the Microsoft Build 2025, scheduled for Monday. Notably, the Build conference is aimed at developers building apps and tools on Microsoft’s platform.
Microsoft Is Paving the Path to Create an Agentic Web
The tech giant is now planning to standardise how its AI chatbots and agents connect to external data hubs. Citing Microsoft’s Chief Technology Officer, Kevin Scott, Reuters reports that the company has a two-fold focus with its agents — to make multiple agents work together, and for them to develop a long-term memory.
Anthropic first introduced the MCP, a universal, open standard, in November 2024. The protocol aims to solve the problem of connecting AI systems with third-party data sources such as Google Cloud, Azure, and cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) platforms.
Since each data hub operates differently, the backend process of connecting with these sources and retrieving data is also different. With AI players using their standard protocol, there is no uniformity in how the data is retrieved and processed, resulting in disparity in inference time as well as the final output. MCP provides a single protocol to let AI systems connect to these knowledge sources and access the data.
Scott reportedly said that Microsoft is focused on adopting standards across the technology industry to enable AI agents made by different developers to collaborate and work together. On MCP, Scott reportedly highlighted that the protocol can help the company create an “agentic web” similar to how hypertext protocols in the 1990s helped in spreading the Internet.
The Microsoft CTO reportedly also highlighted improving the memory function of AI agents to make them more useful. Most AI agents available publicly have enough memory to carry out the task assigned in a single prompt. While it can both provide comprehensive answers (Deep Research tools by OpenAI and Google), and execute tasks on the web (OpenAI’s Operator), it lacks the context from one task to another.
Microsoft is reportedly building a new approach dubbed structured retrieval augmentation. This system allows an AI agent to extract a small portion of information from each turn in a conversation with a user to gain the context of the series of tasks it performed in a session. It is expected that Microsoft will detail this approach, as well as how AI agents developed on its platform will follow MCP.

Aurumin moves closer to cashflow after JV with mining contractor
Aurumin moves closer to cashflow after JV with mining contractor
Aurumin Limited is a big step closer to early cashflows by agreeing to enter into a new joint venture with contract miner Newcam, which will spend up to $4 million to farm into two of its gold projects.
One project has an almost shovel-ready 64,000 shallow ounces of gold that could end up being a quick cash cow for the JV partners, courtesy of toll treating.
Aurumin has also landed a million dollars from Newcam after agreeing to sell the non-gold rights at another of its Western *********** gold projects.
The deal with Newcam has three legs to it – Newcam can earn up to 50 per cent of Aurumin’s Johnson Range project that already has the 64,000-ounce deposit. It can also earn up to 50 per cent of Aurumin’s Mt Dimer gold project, which is littered with interesting gold targets. Newcam must spend $4M across Mt Dimer and Johnson Range to earn its 50 per cent. Remarkably, Aurumin can elect to be free carried all the way to net profit – something that could come sooner rather than later from the Gwendolyn deposit at Johnson Range.
Gwendolin already has 64,700 ounces of gold going 2.51 grams per tonne (g/t) gold within cooee of a number of mills. And the kicker is that Newcam comes replete with its own heavy mining equipment and mining know-how, giving rise to the possibility of early cash flows for the partners.
The $1M cash injection will come courtesy of the ***** of Aurumin’s non-gold mineral rights, primarily iron ore, at its flagship Sandstone project in WA.
We’re pleased to be working with a partner that brings proven capability and a production mindset, and we look forward to delivering further results as assays from Gwendolyn are returned. This is the first drilling at Johnson Range in over a decade, and our new management team is hitting the ground running at a time when the outlook for gold could not be stronger.
Aurumin previously did a deal with ASX-listed Beacon Minerals, run by Kalgoorlie identity Graham McGarry, on its mining leases at Mt Dimer, which will see it pick up a 2 per cent royalty on gold production above 12,000 ounces on that ground.
It still holds a lot of exploration ground around that land that has seen very little modern-day exploration, despite it being a historical mining region that once pumped out 125,000 ounces at an impressive head grade of 6.4g/t gold.
The company’s core focus remains on its Central Sandstone’s 885,800-ounce gold resource, however, the deal with Newcam, particularly as it relates to the Gwendoline deposit, cannot be overstated in a gold price environment at about $5000 an ounce. Fellow ASX-listed company Auric Mining did a similar toll treating deal with a private contractor at its Jeffries find deposit near Norseman and pulled about $100M worth of gold out of it that was toll treated near Coolgardie.
With a fresh $1M cash influx, a fully funded new joint venture and a sharpened focus on Central Sandstone, with upside from both Johnson Range and Mt Dimer, Aurumin is starting to take on a remarkably different complexion and could be on the cusp of actually making some money.

1969 Buick GS 400 Stage 1 Convertible Emerges as Muscle Car Market Star
1969 Buick GS 400 Stage 1 Convertible Emerges as Muscle Car Market Star
Read the full article on Motorious
One of just 212 built, this numbers-matching GS 400 Stage 1 blends luxury and muscle in a rising collector market.
A highly collectible piece of American muscle car history has come to light in the form of a 1969 Buick GS 400 Stage 1 Convertible, a rare performance model from a brand better known for comfort than quarter-mile times. With only 212 Stage 1 convertibles produced that year, this numbers-matching example represents a significant find for enthusiasts and collectors alike.
Finished in its factory-correct #67 Burgundy Mist Poly, the GS 400 Stage 1 was Buick’s no-nonsense answer to the horsepower wars of the late 1960s. Beneath the hood is the model’s signature 400-cubic-inch V8, upgraded with the Stage 1 performance package, which included larger valves, a higher-lift camshaft, and a recalibrated carburetor and distributor. Factory-rated at 340 horsepower and a stout 440 lb-ft of torque, the Stage 1 was more than capable of challenging its more common GM siblings.
This particular GS features a numbers-matching engine, an error-correct TH400 automatic transmission, and retains its factory air conditioning system, which has been retrofitted to modern R-134A refrigerant and remains fully functional—an increasingly rare feature on surviving examples. Inside, the ****** vinyl bucket seats and center console with the signature “horseshoe” shifter present well, adding a touch of muscle-era charm to its comfortable cruising capability.
Power disc brakes up front, rear drums, and factory power steering round out a ride quality that remains true to Buick’s reputation for combining brute force with luxury refinement.
With its scarcity, originality, and unmistakable blend of performance and poise, this 1969 Buick GS 400 Stage 1 Convertible is an investment-grade classic poised for appreciation. As prices climb on Chevelles, GTOs, and Road Runners, Buick’s flagship muscle car is earning renewed respect—and higher demand—on the auction block.

Marvel Rivals Fans Are Done With ‘Dying by a Bunch of Squirrels’
Marvel Rivals Fans Are Done With ‘Dying by a Bunch of Squirrels’
There is never a dull moment in the Marvel Rivals community as players continuously find new things to complain about. From matchmaking and server issues to concerns about trolls throwing ranked matches, there’s always a topic of discussion, some less positive than others.
Squirrel Girl is the latest hero making headlines, as a video circulating in the community has sparked debates about her skill set, especially her ult. Thanks to ricochet, players are tired of getting hit by her huge acorns, somehow managing to hit them even when they aren’t in sight.
Squirrel Girl’s ability kit has made Marvel Rivals players frustrated
Squirrel Girl’s acorns are not for the weak, or tanks in this case | Image Credit: NetEase Games
A video posted by Historical_Drive_714 in the Marvel Rivals subreddit has been making rounds, and it showcases Doctor Strange helplessly getting jumped by Squirrel Girl and her horde of squirrels. “Why does nobody play tank?” is the video’s caption, and after seeing what happens in it, we get the sentiment. See the bullying for yourself:
Imagine getting into a match as a tank, only to be greeted by a huge acorn. No matter what you do, you can’t outrun it, and the next thing you know, you’re back at spawn. No wonder players don’t get the motivation to play as a tank when you’re dealing with stuff like this.
There’s a reason Squirrel Girl’s difficulty level is one star, as even the best Squirrel Girl main will find a good vantage point, camp there, and do nothing but aim at a cluster and shoot nuts. The Punisher shares the same skill ceiling, but at least his horrible movement prevents him from being as busted as Squirrel Girl, whose movement is nuts, literally.
OP’s post in the Marvel Rivals subreddit has been met with players sharing the same sentiment that Squirrel Girl’s ult, while avoidable, is deadly. A single “Squirrel Stampede” can turn the tide of a match. The community is fed up with her abilities, mowing down tanks, and these reactions prove it:

Playing against Squirrel Girl in Marvel Rivals is annoying, but taking Strange against her is like signing your death certificate. Strange in Season 2 is a shell of who he was in the previous seasons, as he received some of the worst nerfs with the second season’s update.
The tank experience in Season 2 of Marvel Rivals is messy
Nobody wants to play tank this season, even with Emma’s inclusion. Some say supports are the hardest role in the game, but tank mains beg to differ. Tanks are fun to play with, but when met with duelists who overpower them, it’s hard to main them over other roles. Paired with the fact that most of the time there are no supports to back them up, it turns into a complete disaster.
The Marvel Rivals community has not been silent about this, and in OP’s post above, players are opening up about their experiences maining tanks. Let’s just say that they’re not very pleasant:

Seems like the only thing players are tanking is their ranks. Judging from the experiences above, it’s pretty reasonable why players do not want to play tanks, and when they do, they suffer.
So, what do you think about the current outrage against Squirrel Girl in Marvel Rivals? Is she that good of a duelist? Or are tanks just not living up to their names? Share your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below.

Florian Wirtz: Manchester City cool interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfielder
Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz is one of the most in demand midfielders in football and many expected him to be the natural successor to Kevin de Bruyne at Manchester City.
But BBC Sport understands Pep Guardiola’s side are withdrawing their initial interest in the ******* international owing to the soaring costs of any deal.
It is estimated that an agreement to sign the 22-year-old would represent the biggest deal in City’s history, potentially reaching as much as 300m euros inclusive of transfer fees and wages.
While there is acknowledgement that Wirtz is among the leading young talents in European football and has been linked with Bayern Munich and Liverpool, City are concerned the cost of the deal is over-inflated.
In the past, City have have shown they are prepared to walk away from transfers if they believe a deal does not represent value for money.
Previously, Guardiola’s side fell short of signing Fred, Jorginho and Frenkie de Jong because of cost-related issues, before signing current Ballon d’Or winner Rodri in 2019.

Injustice 3 Could Be On The Way, Dataminer Hints
Injustice 3 Could Be On The Way, Dataminer Hints
With MultiVersus shutting down later this month, fans of DC superheroes like Batman and Superman are looking elsewhere for their favorite’s next adventure. According to one prominent dataminer from the MultiVersus community, however, they may not have to look far–Injustice 3 may be on the way.
MultiverSusie, a well-known dataminer and leaker in the MultiVersus community recently posted a cryptic message to social media platform X that specifically uses the word “injustice” three times. She followed that post up with another that simply wrote the number “3” and nothing else.
multiversus shutting down is an injustice, then doing it all again is another injustice leaving me without any leaks is yet again another injustice
— MultiverSusie (@multiversusie) May 17, 2025
“[M]ultiversus shutting down is an injustice, then doing it all again is another injustice,” MultiverSusie’s post wrote. “[L]eaving me without any leaks is yet again another injustice.”
The previous Injustice games were developed by NetherRealm Studios, which may be moving on to its next project; the developer surprisingly released Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition–which includes the base game, story expansion, and every DLC character–last week with no prior announcement or tease. The Definitive Edition bundle has led many in the Mortal Kombat community to assume that development of Mortal Kombat 1, which was rumored to have been halted by WB earlier this year, has indeed ended.
The Injustice 3 rumors come months after Warner Bros. shuttered three game studios, including Middle-earth: Shadow of War developer Monolith Productions and MultiVersus developer Player First Games. The official statement from WB at the time said the company would be focusing on four key franchises moving forward: Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, DC, and Game Of Thrones.

RFK Jr. pledged not to upend US vaccine system, but big changes are underway
RFK Jr. pledged not to upend US vaccine system, but big changes are underway
WASHINGTON (AP) — Robert F. Kennedy Jr. clinched the political support needed to become the nation’s top health official by pledging to work within the decades-old federal system for approval and use of vaccines. Yet his regulators are promising big changes that cloud the outlook for what shots might even be available.
The Food and Drug Administration will soon “unleash a massive framework” for how vaccines are tested and approved, according to Commissioner Marty Makary. Details aren’t yet public but the plan is being overseen by the agency’s new vaccine chief, Dr. Vinay Prasad, an outspoken critic of FDA’s handling of COVID-19 boosters.
Makary and other Trump administration officials already have taken unprecedented steps that raise uncertainty about next fall’s COVID-19 vaccinations, including delaying FDA scientists’full approval of Novavax’s shot — and then restricting its use to people at higher risk from the virus. They’ve also suggested seasonal tweaks to match the latest circulating virus strains are new products requiring extra testing.
The changes cross multiple health agencies.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention hasn’t yet acted on an influential advisory panel’s recent recommendations on use of a new meningitis shot or broader RSV vaccination. A meeting of Kennedy’s “Make America Healthy Again” allies was recently told to expect an end to COVID-19 booster recommendations for children — something that vaccine advisory panel was supposed to debate in June. And researchers around the country lost National Institutes of Health funding to study vaccine hesitancy.
“I think you have to assume that RFK Jr.’s intention is to make it harder for vaccines to come to market,” said Dr. Amesh Adalja, a vaccine expert at Johns Hopkins University. The changes are “looked at suspiciously because this is someone with a proven track record of evading the value of vaccines.”
Raising doubts about vaccines
In a Senate health committee hearing last week, Kennedy wrongly claimed that the only vaccines tested against a placebo, or ****** shot, were for COVID-19.
Sen. Bill Cassidy, a Louisiana Republican who chairs the committee, briefly interrupted the hearing to say, “For the record, that’s not true” — pointing to placebo-controlled studies of the rotavirus, measles and HPV vaccines.
Concerned by rhetoric about how vaccines are tested, a group of doctors recently compiled a list of more than 120 vaccine clinical trials spanning decades, most of them placebo-controlled, including for shots against polio, hepatitis B, mumps and tetanus.
“It directly debunks the claim that vaccines were never tested against placebo,” said Dr. Jake Scott, a Stanford University infectious disease physician who’s helping lead the project.
Antivaccine groups argue that some substances scientists call a placebo may not really qualify, although the list shows simple saline shots are common.
Sometimes a vaccine causes enough shot-site pain or swelling that it’s evident who’s getting the vaccine and who’s in the control group — and studies might use another option that slightly irritates the skin to keep the test “blinded,” Scott explained.
And when there’s already a proven vaccine for the same disease, it’s unethical to test a new version against a placebo, he said.
“We can’t always expect placebo-controlled trials,” Scott said. “It’s imperative that be communicated clearly to the public, but it’s challenging especially when there’s so much noise in social media and so much misinformation.”
Trump officials held up vaccine decision
The administration’s promise of a new vaccine framework comes ahead of a Thursday meeting where FDA advisers will discuss updating COVID-19 shots for this fall and winter.
The FDA’s credibility has long rested on the independence of its scientific decisions. While the agency is led by a handful of political appointees, approval decisions are almost always handled by career scientists.
But that standard appears to be shifting. FDA staffers were poised to approve Novavax’s vaccine early last month but the decision was delayed by administration officials, including Makary, according to two people with direct knowledge of the situation who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss agency matters. The shot was approved late Friday with unusual restrictions.
Dr. Tracy Beth Hoeg — a political appointee serving as Makary’s special assistant — was involved in the unprecedented demand that Novavax conduct a new clinical trial of its shot after approval, according to the people. The requirement came shortly after the agency’s longtime vaccine chief, Dr. Peter Marks, was forced to resign.
Hoeg — along with Makary and Prasad — spent much of the COVID-19 pandemic criticizing the FDA’s handling of booster shots, particularly in children and young adults. All three were co-authors of a 2022 paper stating that requiring booster shots in young people would cause more harm than benefit.
Novavax isn’t the only vaccine manufacturer already affected by changing attitudes at FDA. Earlier this month, Moderna pushed back the target date for its new COVID-and-flu combination vaccine to next year after the FDA requested additional effectiveness data.
COVID-19 booster critics are in control
As the FDA’s top official overseeing vaccines, Prasad is now in position to reverse what he recently called “a number of missteps” in how the FDA assessed the benefits and risks of COVID-19 boosters.
He questioned how much benefit yearly vaccinations continue to offer. In a podcast shortly before assuming his FDA job, Prasad suggested companies could study about 20,000 older adults in August or September to show if an updated vaccine prevented COVID-related hospitalizations.
There is “legitimate debate about who should be boosted, how frequently they should be boosted and the value of boosting low-risk individuals,” said Hopkins’ Adalja. But he stressed that CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has the proper expertise to be making those decisions.
And other experts say simply updating the strain that a COVID-19 vaccine targets doesn’t make it a new product — and real-world data shows each fall’s update has offered benefit.
“The data are clear and compelling” that vaccination reduces seniors’ risk of hospitalization and serious illness for four to six months, said Michael Osterholm, a University of Minnesota infectious disease researcher.
Nor could that kind of study be accomplished quickly enough to get millions of people vaccinated before the yearly winter surge, said Dr. Jesse Goodman of Georgetown University, a former FDA vaccine chief.
“You’d always be doing clinical trials and you’d never have a vaccine that was up to date,” he said.

ASUS unveils Noctua triple-fan RTX 5080, new external GPU dock, and more at Computex
ASUS unveils Noctua triple-fan RTX 5080, new external GPU dock, and more at Computex
Computex 2025 is currently in full swing, and Asus is eager to show off its latest gaming innovations at the expo. Tom’s Hardware is on the ground, and our team looked through the company’s latest developments.
This includes some new peripherals, such as the ROG Falcata split keyboard and ROG Harpe II Ace mouse, and new GPU innovations, like the RTX 5080 Noctua, which features Noctua’s legendary cooling solutions, new BTF graphics cards that are now also compatible with non-BTF motherboards, and a Thunderbolt 5 GPU dock.
The ROG Falcata is a mechanical split-keyboard, allowing players to place the two halves of the keyboard in the most optimal position. This would make gaming for several hours much more comfortable, as your keyboard will now follow the natural angle of your wrists.
You may like
We’ve also tried the ROG Harpe II Ace mouse, which generally felt light and good, similar to other gaming mice from other top-tier manufacturers like Logitech. Hopefully, we can get our hands on these units in our testing lab to see how they stack up against our best gaming keyboards and best gaming mice.
Asus has several interesting new GPU-related innovations on show in Taiwan. It released an RTX 5080 version of its Noctua Edition GPU, which features three Noctua NF-A12x25 G2 120mm fans. This massive cooling solution allows the graphics card to run quieter, but it also makes it one massive GPU. The Asus GeForce RTX 5080 Noctua Edition is about four slots thick and over 360 mm long.
The company also released the next generation of its BTF GPUs, which now come with an adapter. The first version of these BTF GPUs had extra gold connectors for power that made it impossible to plug into a non-BTF motherboard.
But this time, Asus recessed those extra connectors, allowing you to plug them into a non-BTF motherboard and then use the usual 12V 2×6 power connector. And when you finally upgrade to a BTF mobo, you can just attach the included adapter, allowing the GPU to get power straight from the motherboard instead of the connector.
Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox.
Aside from looking much cleaner, it also has the potential to solve the melting issues that many high-powered GPUs have with the 12VHPWR and its successor connector. Hopefully, this implementation is far more robust (especially as the adapter is made from metal), but only time will tell if it runs into issues.
Asus also showed off the ROG XG Station 3 — a Thunderbolt 5 external GPU dock that delivers up to 80Gbps of performance and is compatible with the latest GPUs from AMD and Nvidia.
It also works with BTF GPUs and comes with extra USB ports for better connectivity. This should be good enough for newer GPUs like the RTX 5080, although we’re hoping that Asus can offer one that delivers up to 120 Gbps, allowing us to maximize higher-powered graphics cards like the RTX 5090.

Gary Lineker to leave BBC after social media ‘error’
Gary Lineker to leave BBC after social media ‘error’

Watch: Gary Lineker announces he is leaving BBC in Instagram video
Gary Lineker has confirmed he will leave the BBC after presenting his final episode of Match of the Day on Sunday.
The 64-year-old had been expected to continue fronting coverage of the FA Cup and World Cup, but was criticised last week after sharing a social media post about Zionism that included an illustration of a rat, historically used as an antisemitic insult.
On Monday, Lineker said he did not see the image, and “would never consciously repost anything antisemitic”.
He added: “However, I recognise the error and upset that I caused, and reiterate how sorry I am. Stepping back now feels like the responsible course of action.”
The BBC’s director general Tim Davie, said in a statement: “Gary has acknowledged the mistake he made. Accordingly, we have agreed he will step back from further presenting after this season.
“Gary has been a defining voice in football coverage for the BBC for over two decades. His passion and knowledge have shaped our sports journalism and earned him the respect of sports fans across the *** and beyond. We want to thank him for the contribution he has made.”
Lineker said: “Football has been at the heart of my life for as long as I can remember – both on the pitch and in the studio.
“I care deeply about the game, and about the work I’ve done with the BBC over many years. As I’ve said, I would never consciously repost anything antisemitic – it goes against everything I stand for.
“However, I recognise the error and upset that I caused, and reiterate how sorry I am. Stepping back now feels like the responsible course of action.”
PA Media
Lineker was seen leaving his home on Monday afternoon, shortly after his BBC exit was announced
In addition to the written statement, the former footballer also posted a video on Instagram.
He said he would “never, ever have shared” the post if he had seen the emoji, which he said “has awful connotations”.
“I would like once again to say I’m sorry unreservedly for the hurt and upset caused. It was a genuine mistake and oversight,” he continued. “But I should have been more diligent. I know that.”
Lineker said he had “stood up for minorities and humanitarian issues, and against all forms of racism all of my life, including, of course, antisemitism, which I absolutely abhor”.
He told his followers it was “best for all concerned” that he “step down from BBC presenting duties altogether”.
Lineker described his 30 years at the BBC as a “pleasure and a huge privilege”, adding that Match of the Day had become “an integral part of my life”.
The presenter concluded by saying his relationship with the BBC had been “long and wonderful”, but that it was “time for the organisation and myself to go our separate ways”.
Replying to Lineker’s post, Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer said: “Thank you for everything.”
‘Difficult and emotional week’
Writing to staff shortly after the announcement, BBC Sport director Alex Kay-Jelski said he “appreciated the last week has been difficult and emotional for many of you”.
He said it was “sad to be saying goodbye to such a brilliant broadcaster” and thanked Lineker “for his years of service”.
He concluded: “Let’s finish the season strongly with Gary’s final show, enjoy an incredible summer of sport and look forward with excitement to what lies ahead.”
Getty Images
Lineker had been due to front next year’s FA Cup and World Cup coverage on the BBC
Lineker and the BBC had announced last year that he would leave Match of the Day at the end of this season, which concludes on Sunday.
But he had been due to remain at the forefront of the BBC coverage of the men’s FA Cup and the World Cup in 2026.
The former England striker replaced Des Lynam as the corporation’s main presenter of Match of the Day in 1999.
In a recent interview with the BBC’s Amol Rajan he said he had a sense during his latest contract negotiations that the BBC wanted him to step down from the Premier League highlights show.
Roger Mosey, former director of BBC Sport and ex-head of BBC television news, told Radio 4’s Today programme on Monday he believed the “difficulty” was that “you can’t both be the highest paid presenter and be a social media activist”.
“I think it’s always been a problem that allowing Gary to do the amount of social media he did and also be the BBC’s highest-paid presenter was never going to be easy,” he said.
Lineker was temporarily suspended from the BBC in 2023 after an impartiality row over comments he made criticising the then-government’s asylum policy.
He was also among 500 other high-profile figures who signed an open letter earlier this year urging the BBC to reinstate a documentary, Gaza: How To Survive A War Zone, to BBC iPlayer.
Lineker is also the co-founder of Goalhanger Podcasts, makers of the popular The Rest Is History series and its spin-offs about politics, football, entertainment and money.
The parting of ways between Lineker and the BBC also includes the licensing deal for the Goalhanger podcast titles on BBC Sounds which ends this year, the PA news agency reported.

Lilo & Stitch Lego Deals – Save On Stitch, Preorder Matching Angel Figure
Lilo & Stitch Lego Deals – Save On Stitch, Preorder Matching Angel Figure
Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch arrives in theaters this Friday, May 23. Unsurprisingly, that means there’s a wave of new merch hitting store shelves. But even with brand-new products such as this adorable talking Stitch plush, one of the most popular pieces of merch will likely continue to be Lego’s buildable Stitch figure. The 730-piece Lego set has remained one of the best-selling Disney Lego sets at major retailers since its release last March. And it will probably be even more in demand in the coming weeks. Right now, Lego’s Stitch figure is available for $48 (was $65) at Walmart. If this deal sells out, Amazon has it in stock for $52, which matches the deal we saw during the holidays last year.
And there’s another upcoming release that could contribute to Lego Stitch’s popularity. On June 1, Lego will release a very similar model of Angel from the Lilo & Stitch animated series. Check out both figures as well as the recently released Lilo & Stitch Beach House Lego playset below.
If you want to watch the original 2002 animated film before heading to the theater this weekend, Disney recently remastered the film in 4K. Fans can pick up Lilo & Stitch on 4K Blu-ray for $32 (was $45) at Amazon.
$48 at Walmart | $52 at Amazon (was $65)
Lego’s expressive Stitch figure is 730 pieces and recommended for kids ages nine and up. Along with the 8-inch Stitch figure in a Hawaiian shirt, you’ll piece together a flower hair accessory and an ice cream cone with three removable scoops. The figure has several points of articulation; you can pose his floppy ears at different angles and turn his head to recreate different poses from the animated movie.
You can accessorize your Lego Stitch figure on the Lego Store’s Pick a Brick section of its storefront. Lego has a 44-piece pair of sunglasses for $4.21 and a microphone for $1.97. The mic is currently out of stock, but you can still build the sunglasses at the moment.
For a much smaller, blockier version of Stitch, the Lego Store has an exclusive BrickHeadz figure for $10.
$65 | Releases June 1
Fans can soon pair Stitch with his female counterpart, Angel. The fan-favorite character introduced in the animated series is getting a 784-piece Lego set on June 1. The design and features are very similar to the Stitch figure. Angel’s head turns and you can pose her ears as well as her antennae. Like Stitch, this set includes a couple of accessories: a trio of floating arts that can be connected to Angel’s head and a buildable butterfly.
$90
The 834-piece Lilo and Stitch Beach House isn’t discounted, but it’s worth mentioning here as it only just released on March 1. The colorful playset comes with an assortment of characters and accessories, and features numerous references to the movie. Five Lego minifigures are included: Lilo, Stitch, Nani, David, and Mr. Bubbles.
The Stitch minifigure can be connected to his red spaceship, while other minifigures have a variety of accessories to interact with, too, including a guitar, two surfboards, a mini record player, two torches, a book, kitchen pan, and more. The interior of the two-story house includes several pieces of furniture, appliances, and decorations. You’ll also build trees and plants that line the house’s exterior.
We’ve rounded up a list of notable Disney and Pixar Lego set deals below. Lego’s model of Pixar’s Up House is up for grabs for $39.75 (was $60), while the Mood Cubes inspired by Inside Out 2 are down to $28 (was $35). Older Disney fans should also check the 1,445-piece display model of Young Simba from The Lion King while it’s on ***** for $92 (was $130).
More Disney Pixar Lego Set Deals
Lego Disney Preorders:
Several other Lego sets based on Disney and Pixar properties will launch on June 1. Longtime Pixar fans should take a look at the 613-piece display model of Luxo Jr., the iconic mascot for the animated studio.

Regeneron Pharmaceuticals on Monday announced it will acquire “substantially all” of 23andMe’s assets for $256 million.
The drugmaker participated in a bankruptcy auction for 23andMe, a once high-flying genetic testing company that filed for for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in March. Regeneron is buying 23andMe’s Personal Genome Service, Total Health and Research Services business lines, according to a release.
“We believe we can help 23andMe deliver and build upon its mission to help people learn about their own DNA and how to improve their personal health, while furthering Regeneron’s efforts to improve the health and wellness of many,” Dr. George Yancopoulos, Regeneron’s president, said in a statement.
Regeneron will not buy the company’s telehealth subsidiary, Lemonaid Health, which 23andMe had acquired for around $400 million in 2021. Lemonaid Health will be shut down, but Regeneron has offered to employ all staffers of the acquired business units, according to the release.
The deal is still subject to approval by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri. Pending approval, it’s expected to close in the third quarter of this year, according to the release.
23andMe rocketed into the mainstream because of its at-home DNA testing kits that gave customers insight into their family histories and genetic profiles. The five-time CNBC Disruptor 50 company went public in 2021 via a merger with a special purpose acquisition company. At its peak, 23andMe was valued at around $6 billion.
The company struggled to generate recurring revenue and stand up viable research and therapeutics businesses after going public, and it’s been plagued by privacy concerns since hackers accessed the information of nearly 7 million customers in 2023.
In its bankruptcy proceedings, 23andMe required all bidders to comply with its privacy policies, and a court-appointed, independent “Consumer Privacy Ombudsman” will assess the deal, the companies said.
Several lawmakers and officials, including the Federal Trade Commission, had expressed concerns about the safety of consumers’ genetic data through 23andMe’s ***** process. The privacy ombudsman will present a report on the acquisition to the court by June 10.
“We are pleased to have reached a transaction that maximizes the value of the business and enables the mission of 23andMe to live on, while maintaining critical protections around customer privacy, choice and consent with respect to their genetic data,” Mark Jensen, 23andMe’s board chair, said in a statement.

Vance says Trump, Putin to talk amid Ukraine ‘impasse’
Vance says Trump, Putin to talk amid Ukraine ‘impasse’
US President Donald Trump was due to speak to Russia President Vladimir Putin about peace in Ukraine as the US vice president said there was an impasse over ending the conflict.
Putin sent thousands of troops into Ukraine in February 2022, triggering the gravest confrontation between Russia and the United States since the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis.
Trump, who says he wants to be remembered as a peacemaker, has repeatedly called for an end to the “bloodbath” of Ukraine, which his administration casts as a proxy war between the US and Russia.
Under pressure from Trump, delegates from the warring countries met last week in Istanbul for the first time since 2022, after Putin proposed direct talks and European countries and Ukraine demanded an immediate ceasefire.
Less than an hour before the 10am EST (midnight AEST) call, US Vice President JD Vance told reporters that the US recognised there was an impasse in ending the war – and that if Russia was not willing to engage then eventually the United States would have to say it was not its war.
“We realise there’s a bit of an impasse here. And I think the president’s going to say to President Putin: ‘Look, are you serious? Are you real about this?'” Vance said as he prepared to depart from Italy.
“I think honestly that President Putin, he doesn’t quite know how to get out of the war,” Vance said, adding that he had just spoken to Trump.
He said it “takes two to tango. I know the president’s willing to do that but if Russia is not willing to do that, then we’re eventually just going to say, this is not our war.”
“We’re going to try to end it but if we can’t end it, we’re eventually going to say: ‘You know what? That was worth a try but we’re not doing anymore.'”
