Guitar Center CEO Gabe Dalporto lays out one of the store’s biggest priorities – and it isn’t selling gear

Guitar Center CEO Gabe Dalporto has spoken at length in the past about how he’s hoping to safeguard the store’s future by improving its stock of electric guitar gear and beyond, but there’s another priority he’s passionately pursuing as the company looks to get back on track – and it has nothing to do with selling gear.
In a new interview with Guitar World, Dalporto laid out his plans for restoring the retail giant’s prestige and reasserting its reputation as a go-to destination for players, and while there’s understandably a huge push on improving the quality of the gear it sells in order to cater to ‘the serious musician’, there’s also a big impetus on developing the next generation of players.
Because, not only is Guitar Center hoping to cater and sell gear to existing players, it’s also hoping to get new players started on their guitar journey by overhauling and improving its lessons base.
“One of our priorities is lessons,” Dalporto tells Guitar World when asked about the store’s upcoming strategies for the rest of 2025. “I talk a lot about ‘the serious musician’ and that’s our opportunity to create the next generation of serious musicians.”
Credit: Future
Guitar Center has been catering to the lesson space for some time now, but Dalporto has clearly identified it as an area that needs some TLC. After all, as he notes to Guitar World, the ratio of those who start playing, and those who continue to play after 12 months, is diminishing. That’s something he hopes to change.
“One of the biggest challenges we have as an industry is, if someone picks up a guitar for the first time, for every 10 people who start playing guitar, a year later, one person is playing, and nine are not. What can we do to change that ratio?”
“And that’s our lessons effort. It’s like, how do we connect with people early in their music career and really get them deeply embedded so they’re going to be in it for the long term.”
Such a move will no doubt come as welcome news to Guitar Center fans and Guitar World readers, many of whom singled out lessons as one of the key areas that the store could improve on in order to get back on its feet.
Guitar Center lessons, though, isn’t the only way Dalporto is hoping to innovate the store outside of selling gear. The in-store experience is also set for a significant shake-up, and while Dalporto remains tight-lipped about what exactly such developments will look like, he has teased it could completely revolutionize the guitar-shopping experience.
“The other thing is AI,” he continues. “Right now, we’ve got a variety of AI initiatives, and when you walk into a store, how can you deliver an experience that you otherwise just never could have historically, or on the website? We’re not ready to share exactly what that’s looking like, but we have some prototypes going that are pretty cool.”
The full interview with Gabe Dalporto will be published to GuitarWorld.com soon.

From Arsenal prodigy to drugs smuggler
From Arsenal prodigy to drugs smuggler

Jay Emmanuel-Thomas is awaiting sentence for importing cannabis into the ***
As a footballer, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas seemed destined for greatness. But a drug-smuggling conviction has left his career and reputation in tatters. How did things unravel so dramatically for a player once tipped for the top?
Hailed by legendary Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as a footballer who could “play anywhere”, Emmanuel-Thomas was marked out early on as having elite potential.
Imposing, technically gifted and surprisingly agile, the striker appeared to have the world at his feet.
But a career that promised so much at Arsenal faltered and saw him spend years flitting between the second and third tiers of English football.
In 2020 he moved to play in Scotland and was still plying his trade north of the border when, on 18 September, he was arrested at his home in Gourock, near Glasgow.
Sixteen days earlier, Border Force officers had stopped two women at London Stansted Airport and found drugs in their cases.
It was not a minor haul; they were staring at cannabis with a street value of £600,000.
How did it get there? The evidence soon led detectives to Emmanuel-Thomas.
Getty Images
Emmanuel-Thomas (centre) captained Arsenal to FA Youth Cup victory, aged 16. His team-mates included future England star Jack Wilshere (left)
Wind back a decade and a half, and things were very different.
It is 26 May 2009, and Arsenal’s latest batch of academy talents can barely contain their excitement.
The young prospects, including Jack Wilshere and Francis Coquelin, have just won the FA Youth Cup.
One player in particular has stood out: their 16-year-old captain, Emmanuel-Thomas, who has scored in every round of the competition.
“These young men have a very bright future indeed,” remarked one commentator.
But despite going on to make five first-team appearances, it was not quite to be for Emmanuel-Thomas.
Getty Images
Emmanuel-Thomas, pictured at the back with his tongue out, was caught after a “very thorough investigation” by the NCA
He was shipped out on several loans before leaving the north London club for Ipswich Town.
It was a move that excited supporters in Suffolk, who were keen to see what the former Arsenal starlet could produce.
However, 71 games and eight goals later, Emmanuel-Thomas had not quite made the mark fans hoped for, and he moved to Bristol City in a player exchange deal.

The striker was a prolific scorer in his first season at Bristol City
Here, he helped the Robins secure promotion to the Championship and became something of a cult hero, scoring 21 goals in his first season.
A move to Queens Park Rangers followed, with subsequent loan spells at MK Dons and Gillingham.
Getty Images
A spell at MK Dons was another step in Emmanuel-Thomas’s career
But in 2019, Emmanuel-Thomas accepted a transfer to a Thai-based team that would alter the course of his life.
It is believed he was tempted into the country’s drugs underworld while playing for PTT Rayong, a club that folded in the same year.
Despite later moves to an Indian side and several Scottish outfits, including Aberdeen, Emmanuel-Thomas never shook off the criminal connections he made.
By the time he took a six-month contract at Greenock Morton, a 40-minute drive from Glasgow, the game was almost up.
NCA
The drugs were intercepted by Border Force officers at London Stansted Airport in Essex
As he lined up for them against Queens Park on 14 September, he would have surely known the law was about to catch up with him.
The women arrested at Stansted were his 33-year-old girlfriend, Yasmin Piotrowska, and her friend Rosie Rowland, 28.
Emmanuel Thomas, by then 33, appeared in court charged with orchestrating the attempted importation of drugs, and was sacked by his club.
Detectives discovered he had duped Ms Piotrowska, from north-west London, and Ms Rowland, from Chelmsford, into travelling to Thailand with the promise of £2,500 in cash and an all-expenses-paid trip.
Their job? To bring home two suitcases each, filled with what they were assured was gold, Chelmsford Crown Court heard.
‘I feel sorry for the girls’
They flew business class from Bangkok, landing in Essex via Dubai.
Unknown to them, they were smuggling in cannabis with a street value of £600,000, vacuum-packed inside the four cases.
The pair were stopped and arrested by Border Force officers, before being charged with drug importation offences.
With the pair in custody, and Emmanuel-Thomas later remanded, police probed how the drugs made it to the ***.
They soon found the player was the intermediary between suppliers in Thailand and dealers in the ***, according to the National Crime Agency (NCA).
With the footballer’s encouragement, the women had also made a near-identical trip in July, having been made similar promises of cash and a lavish holiday.
On his way to custody, Emmanuel-Thomas even told NCA officers: “I just feel sorry for the girls.”
Elizabeth Cook/PA Media
Emmanuel-Thomas changed his plea to guilty
His first court hearing in September was told he carried out “extensive research” into flights and directions, including which airports the women had been going to.
David Philips, a senior NCA investigator, said “organised criminals like Emmanuel-Thomas” used persuasion and payment to get people to do their dirty work.
“But the risk of getting caught is very high and it simply isn’t worth it,” he added.
During several court appearances, Emmanuel-Thomas, of Cardwell Road, Gourock, strenuously denied attempting to import cannabis.
However, he changed his plea to guilty at the start of May and restrictions on reporting this were lifted on Wednesday.
Charges against both Ms Piotrowska and Ms Rowland were dropped after the prosecution revealed they had been tricked by Emmanuel-Thomas.
It followed what David Josse KC described as a “very thorough investigation”.
Emmanuel-Thomas appeared via video link from HMP Chelmsford at his latest court hearing.
When he returns to court for sentencing, on a date still to be confirmed, it will not be his first time in the spotlight.
But it will be for very different reasons to the day he lifted that trophy aloft in 2009.

Vilips eyes another big pay day as Scheffler lurks
Vilips eyes another big pay day as Scheffler lurks
*********** rookie Karl Vilips is poised to achieve another big pay day on the PGA Tour at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas.
Already a tour winner, the 23-year-old is eyeing a third top-10 finish in 11 starts this year after posting a two under 68 on Saturday to be tied 10th ahead of the final round.
Vilips was at six under, seven shots behind joint leaders Ben Griffin (68) and Matt Schmid (68).
That pair enjoy a four-shot lead from Rickie Fowler (67) as they prepare to battle in the final group on Sunday, well aware that formidable world No.1 Scottie Scheffler is lurking after charging with a 64 on Saturday.
It’s proving hard to separate American Griffin and Germany’s Schmid as they have posted the same scores on each of the first three days – 66, 63 and now 68.
Fowler will join the co-leaders in the final group Sunday when Schmid seeks his first PGA Tour victory and Griffin his first individual title after pairing with Andrew Novak to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans last month.
The 36-year-old Fowler, who has dropped to 127th in the world after being in the top 25 as recently as early 2024, hasn’t won since the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic in Detroit that was his sixth victory and ended a four-year winless streak.
*********** rookie Karl Vilips is poised to achieve another big pay day on the PGA Tour at the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial in Fort Worth, Texas.ven under and within six strokes.
He would have been closer if not for three bogeys his last seven holes. But, with another big round on Sunday, he still has a chance to become the first player since Dustin Johnson in 2017 to win in three starts in a row.
Robert MacIntyre and Lucas Glover also shot 64. MacIntyre was in a tie for fourth with Nick Hardy and Akshay Bhatia at 8 under.
Scheffler, who teed off more than two hours before the co-leaders, was at 8 under after his eagle at No. 11, where he got on the green in two shots and made the 15-foot putt. That followed consecutive birdies as Nos. 9 and 10, and starting the back nine with an approach to 2 1/2 feet.
But back-to-back bogeys followed after Scheffler hit tee shots into bunkers at Nos. 12 and 13. He got those strokes back with birdies at Nos. 16 and 17, only to miss the fairway at No. 18 to finish with another bogey.
The only player to win the Byron Nelson and Colonial in the same season was Ben Hogan in 1946. Scheffler earlier this month won his beloved hometown CJ Cup Byron Nelson when matching the PGA Tour’s 72-hole scoring record at 31-under 253 for an eight-stroke win.

‘I don’t care’: Nationals leader puts job on the line
‘I don’t care’: Nationals leader puts job on the line
David Littleproud doesn’t care if he loses his job over a messy coalition split, with the Nationals leader saying he stood up for the party’s principles.
The Liberals and Nationals have put a pause on their shock break-up to allow time for each party to work things out.
But the damage has already been done, with internal turmoil and the threat of a leadership coup bubbling within the Nationals following a fierce backlash from the Liberals and former prime ministers.
Despite this, Mr Littleproud remained resolute that his party had taken a principled step when a majority of the party room voted to part ways with the Liberals over policy disagreements.
“I’d rather go to (the party room) standing for something and if I have to lose my job for it, I don’t care,” he told Sky News on Sunday.
“This was a principled decision that the men and women of my party room made.
“I’m proud of them … (proud of) the fact that we got we got an outcome in two or three days because of principles over politics.”
The Liberals initially wanted to put all policies up for review after its worst federal election result since World War II.
But the Nationals have sought guarantees on four key policies: a recommitment to nuclear power, a regional investment fund, telecommunications service obligations and supermarket divestiture powers.
Mr Littleproud expects to formalise a coalition deal with Liberals leader Sussan Ley in coming days.

Narcissists always give themselves away — with this one bad habit that’s tough to hide
Narcissists always give themselves away — with this one bad habit that’s tough to hide
They’re so vain — and this new study is definitely about them.
Looking to weed out the narcissists in your life? Researchers say there’s one, hard-to-hide habit the unpalatable personality type finds impossible to break.
The way they engage with their smartphones can tell you everything you need to know, new findings reveal — those with narcissistic tendencies are significantly more likely to exhibit problematic patterns of scrolling, posting, and liking social media posts.
A narcissist a person who has an excessive interest in or admiration of themselves. Galina_lya – stock.adobe.com
The data, published in the Journal of Research in Personality, shows that a person’s social media behavior could be an indicator that someone is a bit too into themselves.
Social media addiction goes beyond heavy usage. It includes behaviors like compulsively checking for updates, being unable to cut back despite negative consequences, and relying on online interactions for emotional satisfaction.
These behaviors can lead to problems in real life — including sleep problems, reduced face-to-face interaction, and poor job or academic performance.
The team worked to explore not just whether narcissism and addiction are linked, but how they might influence each other over time.
A new study found that those with narcissistic tendencies are significantly more likely to exhibit problematic patterns of scrolling, posting, and liking social media posts. motortion – stock.adobe.com
To begin, they identified six forms of narcissism: admiration, rivalry, enmity, isolation, heroism, and sanctity.
The study sample was comprised of 339 adults aged 19 to 41, living in Poland. They all completed multiple assessments, answered questions about their social media use, and filled out established measures of narcissism and social networking addiction focused on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok.
The results showed that individuals who scored high in nearly every form of narcissism — except sanctity— also reported higher levels of social media addiction.

However, the dynamic between the two varied depending on the type of narcissism.
Those with heroism, admiration, and rivalry had what researchers called a “reciprocal” relationship with addiction.
When one went up, the other tended to go down over time, suggesting a push-pull dynamic where users may alternate between bursts of ego-driven behavior and periods of compulsive social media use. This hints at an internal struggle between seeking admiration and dealing with the consequences of addiction.
Social media addiction has been found to led to behaviors that can lead to problems IRL, including sleep problems, reduced face-to-face interaction, and poor job or academic performance. 9nong – stock.adobe.com
In contrast, enmity (a hostile, antagonistic form of narcissism) and isolation (withdrawn and cold) tracked in sync with social media addiction. When usage spiked, so did these darker narcissistic traits — and vice versa.
That suggests these traits may actually worsen the addiction or feed off it in a continuous loop.
So, what does this mean for the average user?
If someone is constantly glued to their phone, obsessing over likes and followers, they might not just be addicted to their feed — they could also be revealing something about their personality.
And if their behavior seems driven by a need for admiration or marked by antagonism, you might be looking at a narcissistic pattern.
Of course, the researchers caution that their study was based entirely on self-report data, which means some findings could be influenced by how honestly participants assessed their own behaviors and traits.
Still, the study opens a fascinating window into how our online habits mirror our inner worlds.
So next time you find yourself — or someone else — unable to stop refreshing that Instagram feed, it might be worth asking: Is this just a bad habit — or a sign of something worse?

North Korea detains three officials over warship launch accident, state media says
North Korea detains three officials over warship launch accident, state media says
North Korea has detained three shipyard officials over an accident during the launch of a new warship on Wednesday, state media has reported.
Parts of the 5,000-ton destroyer’s bottom were crushed during the launch ceremony, tipping the vessel off balance.
An investigation into the incident, which North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un described as a “criminal act”, is ongoing.
KCNA, North Korea’s official news agency, identified those detained as the chief engineer of the northern Chongjin shipyard where the destroyer was built, as well as the construction head and an administrative manager.
The report said that the three were “responsible for the accident”.
On Friday, KCNA said the manager of the shipyard, Hong Kil Ho, had been summoned by law enforcers.
Satellite images showed the vessel lying on its side covered by large blue tarpaulins, and a portion of the vessel appeared to be on land.
North Korea’s state media did not mention any casualties or injuries at the time, downplaying the damage.
KCNA reported that there were no holes on the ship’s bottom – contrary to initial reports.
“The hull starboard was scratched and a certain amount of seawater flowed into the stern section,” the agency said.
Kim said on Thursday the accident was caused by “absolute carelessness, irresponsibility and unscientific empiricism”.
He added that those who made “irresponsible errors” would be dealt with at a plenary meeting next month.
It is not clear what punishment they might face, but the authoritarian state has a woeful human rights record.
It is uncommon for North Korea to publicly disclose local accidents – though it has done this a handful of times in the past.
This particular accident comes weeks after North Korea unveiled a similar 5,000-ton destroyer, the Choe Hyon.
Kim had called that warship a “breakthrough” in modernising North Korea’s navy and said it would be deployed early next year.

Beloved Fast Food Chain Makes Telling Move After Closing Hundreds of Locations
Beloved Fast Food Chain Makes Telling Move After Closing Hundreds of Locations
Last month, beloved West Coast fast food chain Jack in the Box announced that it would be closing hundreds of locations around the country, but the chain made a telling move that highlights the chain’s long-term plans.
Back in April, Jack in the Box announced plans to close about 150 or 200 of its “underperforming restaurants” across the country.
“Jack in the Box will implement a block closure program, which is projected to result in the closure of approximately 150-200 underperforming restaurants — a majority of which have been in the system for over three decades,” the company wrote in a press release on April 23, 2025.
“The program will consist of approximately 80-120 restaurant closures between now and 12/31/2025, with the remaining underperforming restaurants closing thereafter based upon respective franchise agreement termination dates,” the restaurant chain’s press release continued.
While closures of this magnitude and scale don’t often paint an optimistic picture for businesses going forward, it seems like Jack in the Box is not merely closing locations, but it is also planning expansion.
According to a report from Bob Vitale of The Columbus Dispatch, Jack in the Box is planning expansion throughout Ohio.
“The company that owns the 74-year-old restaurant chain already has come to Powell and Whitehall with its other brand, Del Taco. A Jack in the Box representative told The Dispatch that it’s seeking new locations for both, though, in the Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Dayton areas,” Vitale wrote for The Columbus Dispatch this week.
This is a telling move from the fast food chain as it indicates that despite the recent plans to close hundreds of locations, the chain still has expansion plans, which will be good news for its fans and customers.

King’s invite to Canada sends a message to Trump
King’s invite to Canada sends a message to Trump

In his first move after his historic election win, Prime Minister Mark Carney invited the King to Canada
A decade ago, a portrait of the British monarch caused a row in ********* politics. Now, the King is being invited to deliver the Speech from the Throne. What’s changed?
In 2011, shortly after forming a majority Conservative government, Prime Minister Stephen Harper caused a national uproar when he sought to emphasise Canada’s ties to the British monarchy. In one example, he replaced two artworks by a Quebec painter with a portrait of the Queen.
Some rebuked the gesture as being out of touch with modern times. Canada has, throughout its 157-year-old history, sought increasing independence from the British monarchy, while still remaining a part of the Commonwealth.
When Liberal Prime Minister Justin Trudeau succeeded Harper four years later, the Queen’s portrait went down, the Quebec paintings, back up.
Fast forward to 2025, and a paradoxical shift has occurred in Canada’s relationship with the Crown. In a transparent show of Canada’s sovereignty and independence against threats from US President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Mark Carney – a Liberal – has invited King Charles the III to open the 45th ********* parliament.
The move is “a huge affirmation and statement about the uniqueness of Canada and its traditions,” Justin Vovk, a ********* royal historian, told the BBC – “a theatrical display that is meant to show what makes Canadians separate from Americans” and not, as Trump has often repeated, a “51st state”.
Both countries are former British colonies, but America’s founding fathers took a different path and severed all formal connections to the Crown nearly 250 years ago.
Canada’s separation from the monarchy has been more gradual, and its ties have never been completely broken. Canada’s parliamentary system is modelled after Britain’s Westminster system. The British monarch is still formally the head of state, but their duties are often carried out by their ********* representative, called the governor general.
Loyalty to the Crown was seen as important to Canada’s politicians in the 19th Century who wanted to maintain separation from the US, said ********* royal historian and commentator Carolyn Harris.
That later changed in the 1960s, as Quebec – Canada’s majority French-speaking province – began to assert its own distinct identity and threatened separation. This led to an era of politicians like Lester B Pearson and Pierre Elliott Trudeau who worked to untangle Canada from its British colonial past.
In 1982, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau repatriated Canada’s constitution, giving full legislative power to the federal government and the provinces, and removing it from British parliament.
Ms Harris noted that Canada remained a constitutional monarchy throughout these periods. What fluctuated, however, was how much the prime minister of the day chooses to embrace that connection.
Getty Images
Trudeau and Queen Elizabeth II signed the Constitution proclamation giving Canada full control of its own constitution in 1982
Carney’s invite to King Charles III signals that his government will be one that is much more supportive of the Crown, Mr Vovk said, marking “a very different tone” from previous Liberals.
A British monarch has not delivered Canada’s throne speech since 1977, and has not opened a brand new session of parliament since 1957, making the King’s upcoming visit a truly rare occasion.
It comes at a consequential time for Canada.
Carney heavily campaigned on standing up to Trump, after the US president spent months undermining Canada’s sovereignty by saying it would be better off as a US state.
Trump also imposed a series of tariffs that have threatened Canada’s economic stability, given that the US is its largest trade partner by far.
When announcing the visit last month, Carney called it “a historic honour that matches the weight of our times”.
He added that the King’s visit “clearly underscores the sovereignty of our country”.
Both historians, Mr Vovk and Ms Harris, noted that the bulk of Canada’s modern population is indifferent to the British monarchy. Some are even critical of it.
The coronation of King Charles III in 2023 made way for fresh scrutiny of the Crown’s historic mistreatment of indigenous people in Canada, and questions on whether the new monarch will move towards reconciliation.
Quebec politicians are also still calling for Canada to cut ties with the monarchy. On Friday, the separatist Bloc Québécois party said it will again seek to scrap the need for elected officials to swear allegiance to the King.
Watch: What do Canadians make of the monarchy in the Trump era?
Some Canadians will be intrigued by the pomp and pageantry of the King’s visit, Mr Vovk said, but its chief purpose is to send a political message from Canada to the world.
It is also a way for Prime Minister Carney to improve the relationship with Trump, who is famously a fan of the British monarchy and its history.
“Strengthening the relationship with the monarchy puts a stamp on legitimacy that transcends individual parties and the current political climate,” Mr Vovk said. “Politicians come and go, but the monarchy has always remained.”
It also works to tie Canada closer to Europe – a key objective of Prime Minister Carney, a former governor of the Bank of England, who has spoken about the need for Canada to find new allies as it navigates its changing relationship with the US.
The visit is notable for the Crown, too.
It will be the King’s first to Canada as reigning monarch. He and the Queen had intended to visit last year, but cancelled their plans due to his ******* diagnosis.
The palace has promised a throne speech that will “mark a significant moment between the Head of State and the ********* people”.
And while it will be a short trip – the King and Queen will arrive Monday morning and depart Tuesday evening – the palace said they hope the trip will be “an impactful one”.

Popular allergy medications linked to severe withdrawal symptoms, FDA warns
Two common allergy medications could cause a severe reaction in some people who stop using it.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an alert related to cetirizine (Zyrtec) or levocetirizine (Xyzal), warning that patients who stop taking it after long-term use may experience “rare but severe itching,” a condition called pruritus.
The itching was reported by people who used the medicines every day for months or years, and then stopped using them.
Top 10 ‘Allergy Capitals’ Of The Us, Plus 4 Tips To Manage Symptoms
In total, 209 cases were reported worldwide (197 in the U.S.) between April 25, 2017, and July 6, 2023.
“This number includes only reports submitted to FDA, so there may be additional cases of which we are unaware,” the agency stated in the release.

Two common allergy medications could cause a severe reaction in some people who stop using it, the FDA warned.
“Reported cases were rare but sometimes serious, with patients experiencing widespread, severe itching that required medical intervention.”
Many reports described a “significant and persistent impact on quality of life and ability to function,” the FDA noted.
Honey And Allergy Relief: Do These Two Really Go Together?
In most cases (90%), restarting the medicine resolved the severe itching. Some (38%) had success with gradually tapering off after restarting.
The drugs are available in both prescription and over-the-counter versions.
The FDA said it will update the medications’ prescribing information to include a warning of the itching risk, and will also ask the manufacturers to add the information to the drug facts label for over-the-counter versions.
Cetirizine and levocetirizine are antihistamines that are approved to treat seasonal allergies in adults and children 2 and up, according to the FDA.
Patients who stop taking the drugs after long-term use may experience “rare but severe itching,” a condition called pruritus.
The drugs are also approved as a treatment for year-round allergies and chronic hives in patients 6 months and older.
People who experience severe itching after the cessation of these medications should contact a healthcare professional, the FDA advised.

“Individuals planning on long-term use of cetirizine or levocetirizine, especially for more than a few months, should discuss the benefits and risks with your healthcare professional, who can provide advice based on your personal needs,” the agency stated.
Other common side effects of cetirizine and levocetirizine include fatigue, drowsiness, cough, dry mouth, fever, sore throat, nosebleed, diarrhea and vomiting, per the FDA.
Cetirizine and levocetirizine are antihistamines that are approved to treat seasonal allergies in adults and children 2 and up, according to the FDA.
Dr. Marc Siegel, clinical professor of medicine at NYU Langone Health and Fox News senior medical analyst, noted that these medications are “very effective” at alleviating allergy symptoms.
“The FDA is noting that in extremely rare circumstances after long-term use, stopping them can lead to severe itching, which is alleviated after restarting them,” he reiterated to Fox News Digital.
“I suspect this might be due to accelerated histamine release once the blocker is stopped.”
“Individuals planning on long-term use of cetirizine or levocetirizine, especially for more than a few months, should discuss the benefits and risks with your health care professional, who can provide advice based on your personal needs,” the FDA stated.
A spokesperson from the Consumer Healthcare Products Association provided the below statement to Fox News Digital.
“Consumer safety is the top priority for CHPA and our manufacturer members. The OTC industry supports FDA’s ongoing commitment to notifying the public about safety signals, even when extremely rare, as in this case.”

“CHPA members will continue to comply with FDA guidelines, including any needed updates to Drug Facts labels, while also evaluating and monitoring the latest science and product profiles. Consumers who use these medicines daily for an extended ******* (months-years) should not stop taking their medication abruptly without first consulting with their healthcare provider.”

Opella, the manufacturer of Xyzal, shared the below statement with Fox News Digital.
“Xyzal has a strong track record of safety and efficacy backed by scientific research and user satisfaction. This is a rare reaction, and Opella stands by the safety of Xyzal when used as directed.”

Planned Parenthood affiliate to close 4 clinics in Minnesota and 4 in Iowa over federal funding cuts
Planned Parenthood affiliate to close 4 clinics in Minnesota and 4 in Iowa over federal funding cuts
Four Planned Parenthood clinics in Minnesota and four of the six in Iowa will shut down in a year, the Midwestern affiliate operating them said Friday, blaming a freeze in federal funds, budget cuts proposed in Congress and state restrictions on abortion.
Two of the Minnesota clinics closing are in the Twin Cities area, in Apple Valley and Richfield. The others are in Alexandria and Bemidji.
According to Planned Parenthood North Central States, the four closing in Iowa include the only Planned Parenthood facility in the state that provides abortion procedures, in Ames, home to Iowa State University. The others are in Cedar Rapids, Sioux City and the Des Moines suburb of Urbandale.
The Planned Parenthood affiliate said it would lay off 66 employees and ask 37 additional employees to move to different clinics. The organization also said it plans to keep investing in telemedicine services and sees 20,000 patients a year virtually. The affiliate serves five states — Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.
“We have been fighting to hold together an unsustainable infrastructure as the landscape shifts around us and an onslaught of attacks continues,” Ruth Richardson, the affiliate’s president and CEO, said in a statement.
Of the remaining 15 clinics operated by Planned Parenthood North Central States, six will provide abortion procedures — five of them in Minnesota. The other clinic is in Omaha, Nebraska.
The affiliate said that in April, the Trump administration froze $2.8 million in federal funds for Minnesota to provide birth control and other services, such as cervical ******* screenings and testing for ********* transmitted diseases.
While federal funds can’t be used for most abortions, abortion opponents have long argued that Planned Parenthood affiliates should not receive any taxpayer dollars, saying the money still indirectly underwrites abortion services.
Planned Parenthood North Central States also cited proposed cuts in Medicaid, which provides health coverage for low-income Americans, as well as a Trump administration proposal to eliminate funding for teenage pregnancy prevention programs.
In addition, Republican-led Iowa last year banned most abortions after about six weeks of pregnancy, before many women know they are pregnant, causing the number performed there to drop 60% in the first six months the law was in effect and dramatically increasing the number of patients traveling to Minnesota and Nebraska.
After the closings, Planned Parenthood North Central States will operate 10 brick-and-mortar clinics in Minnesota, two in Iowa, two in Nebraska, and one in South Dakota. It operates none in North Dakota, though its Moorhead, Minnesota, clinic is across the Red River from Fargo, North Dakota.

Ruffels charges, targets maiden LPGA title in Mexico
Ruffels charges, targets maiden LPGA title in Mexico
Gabriela Ruffels’ blistering third-round finish has given the *********** a great chance to clinch a maiden LPGA Tour title in Mexico.
Ruffels’ chances were fading before she rattled off four birdies in her last five holes to be outright fourth, two shots behind leader Jenny Bae going into the final round of the Mexico Riviera Maya Open.
The 25-year-old, second-year LPGA player posted a one-under 71 on the El Camaleon course at Mayakoba on Saturday to get to five under.
American tour rookie Bae bogeyed the last hole as she also shot 71 and led by one from China’s Yahui Zhang (68) and Japan’s Chisato Iwai (68).
Ruffels was three over for her round when she holed a 15-foot birdie putt on the 14th hole. On the par-4 16th, the toughest on the back nine, she holed a birdie putt from 20 feet.
Ruffels left her tee shot just in front of the green on the 17th, pitched to a back pin some 4 feet away for birdie, and then made it three straight at the end with a birdie at the 18th. That allowed her to salvage a 71 and left her very much in the mix.
“I was just proud of the way I kind of stuck in there and felt like I gave myself the chance to kind of come back,” Ruffels said.
“To finish the way I did is really good and some momentum into tomorrow.”
Karis Davidson was best of the other Australians, tied 18th at two under after a 68, with Robyn Choi (69) a further shot back and Sarah Kemp (74) at five over.
The El Camaleon course at Mayakoba was set up for scoring, with the tees moved up on the par-4 17th to make it reachable with a fairway metal, and the par-5 closing hole.
Zhang finished birdie-birdie and Iwai also birdied the last two holes.
Bae was pleased to still be in front after playing the bacj nine in one over.
“I feel like I definitely left a few birdies out there, but it’s OK because I know those chances that I missed today could also be the birdies that I get tomorrow,” Bae said.
This is the final week before the US Women’s Open, and the LPGA’s return to Mexico for the first time since 2017 did not attract a strong field with Charley Hull at No.15 the highest-ranked player.
But it’s a great opportunity for everyone else. The top 11 players on the leaderboard — everyone at 4 under and better — are going for their first LPGA win.

A Small Food Firm Buys 21 bitcoin, Jumping on BTC Treasury Trend, Shares Fall Anyways
A Small Food Firm Buys 21 bitcoin, Jumping on BTC Treasury Trend, Shares Fall Anyways
DDC Enterprise (DDC), an Asian food company, has announced the acquisition of 21 BTC as part of a long-term plan to incorporate the cryptocurrency into its corporate treasury.
The company, led by founder and CEO Norma Chu, exchanged 254,333 class A ordinary shares for BTC, in a transaction valued at roughly $2.28 million, according to a press release.
The move positions DDC among a growing cohort of public companies using BTC as a treasury asset. Two more purchases totaling 79 BTC are expected in the coming days, bringing the company’s initial holdings to 100 BTC.
In a shareholder letter issued last week, Chu outlined plans to accumulate up to 500 BTC within six months and aim for 5,000 BTC in three years.
While companies adopting bitcoin as a strategic treasury asset often see major price rises, DDC saw the opposite. The company’s shares dropped more than 12% on Friday’s trading session, while the S&P 500 dropped 0.6% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 1%.
DigiAsia (FAAS), for example, saw its share prices surge more than 90% in a single trading session after announcing a $100 million BTC treasury plan earlier this month.
