This article contains spoilers for Act 1 and minor spoilers for the late-game of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Please be cautious. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has some scary bosses, but nothing quite compares to Lampmaster. The boss may seem easy at first, because of his slow attacks, but it’s a beast during the second phase. Why? Because it can completely wipe out your team with just one attack. Pretty heart pumping, huh? Furthermore, it is not an optional boss initially, which makes it unskippable. To make matters worse, it’s not the only time you’ll face it. Why does this game contain so many hard bosses? Pretty sure the title of the game doesn’t read Dark Souls. Anyways, let’s tell you how difficult the boss is. That one-shot attack is very scary in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33! You meet the Lampmaster for the first time at the Stone Wave Cliffs in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The Nevron has some basic moves in the beginning, and might raise your ego a bit. However, the main problem starts with the second phase, and somehow it turns into a god. Not a surprising cliche in hard video games. During the second phase, the Lampmaster does a ritual of a kind that allows it to perform its most powerful move, Sword of Light. Once activated, the Lampmaster swings the sword really fast at your whole team. If you fail to dodge or parry it, your name is etched on a grave. Furthermore, the attack is really fast and very hard to dodge or parry, so there’s no easy way out. But there is a way to stop Lampmaster from doing this lamp magic. Once the Nevron starts the ritual, you’ll see its lamp glow in a specific order. If you got the smell, yes, that’s a secret sauce to defeat this pseudo-powerful boss. All players gotta do is free-aim and shoot the lamps in the shown order. If that is done correctly, Lampmaster won’t be able to use that stupid light sword. Additionally, it doesn’t take away any AP if the correct lamps are shot in the right order, so free damage. But doing the counter ritual doesn’t stop them from doing other attacks. The Lampmaster proves one thing, though: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 doesn’t always need you to be a dodge or parry master. Sometimes, using your attention to detail can bring tough enemies to their knees. But again, if you fail at doing so, praying to parry gods remains as the final option. How many more times do you face Lamp Master in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33? Those lamps are not for show. | Image Credit: Sandfall Interactive It is a known fact that Lampmaster is the main boss at Stone Wave Cliffs in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. However, that is only the case during Act 1, as you’ll be facing it again later on. Two more times, to be precise. Lampmaster can be found for the second time in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, by going to the Painting Workshop. This is a late-game area, which you can access by unlocking Esquie’s flying ability and exploring the content. Yes, quite naturally, the boss is much harder, since it’s in can be found during the late-game. You’ll be able to face the boss for the final time at the Flying Manor. However, players have to explore the lower parts of the location to find the red-lit Lampmaster. As it is also a late-game boss, it is much harder compared to the first time. It’s just one of a long list of TV series reboots that have made their way to screens in recent years as producers ride the reboot renaissance. Some have been successful — the recent restyling of 80s soap Dynasty, British favourite Doctor Who and the stil schmaltzy but well received reincarnation of 90s favourite Full House — others, not so. In fact, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find recent TV reboots that have survived more than a few seasons. Case in point: Will and Grace, the popular ‘90s sitcom brought back for a three-season run in 2017. After starting out strong, the series fell out of favour with both critics and fans, who deserted the show in droves, complaining the reboot it had tainted their memory of the much-treasured original series. Can And Just Like That… buck the trend and go the distance? On the eve of its season three debut, that remains to be seen. But one thing’s for sure: audiences are divided. When the reboot first hit screens in late 2021, its first season was met with mixed reviews. Some loved revisiting Carrie and her friends, now navigating life in New York in their 50s, others hated what the once era-defining women had become. Season two divided critics and fans even further, with many claiming the show, once so ground-breaking and subversive in its original ’90s iteration, had become something of a caricature of itself: that its central characters — writer-turned-grieving-widow Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) lawyer-turned-divorcee Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) and gallery curator-turned-Park-Avenue-yummy mummy Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) — had strayed so far from their roots that they were nothing more than privileged ciphers of themselves. In a review for the BBC, critic Caryn James noted that while the series attempted to recapture the charm of Sex and the City, it often fell short. She called the spinoff an “annoying and dull nostalgia-fest offset by clumsy dollops of self-awareness about living in the 2020s.” The Guardian’s Lucy Mangan was even more scathing, claiming the reboot was nothing more than a “regressive, embarrassing disappointment” — Mangan even went so far as to say that it had ruined the experience of watching the original Sex and the City for her. But curiosity may yet get the better of them. (The network has gagged reviews of the new season until Thursday morning.) “The appeal of And Just Like That… is primarily nostalgic: it offers fans of Sex and the City an opportunity to have just a little bit more of the characters they love,” says Associate Professor Lauren Rosewarne, pop culture expert at the University of Melbourne. “It probably isn’t going to satisfy to the same extent as the original show did, but it provides audiences an opportunity to revisit people they hold dear. “I would be very surprised if And Just Like That… has an audience separate from fans of the original show.” There’s a very real risk the series — as Mangan suggests — will besmirch the good name of its source material. But all that those concerns were pushed to the side as the show’s cast and creators, including original show-runner and AJLT creator Michael Patrick King, gathered in New York to celebrate the next instalment, which picks up a few months on from Carrie’s move into her deluxe new Gramercy Park home. Kim Cattrall, who notably popped up for a much-talked-about cameo as original character Samantha in season two’s finale, was nowhere to be seen. Instead joining the core three characters — and elevated to series regulars — were Nicole Ari Parker, who plays Lisa Todd Wexley, and Sarita Choudhury, whose character Seema Patel does a passable job of mirroring Cattrall’s Samantha. Ramirez and Pittman’s characters were written off the show this season — Ramirez presumably because no one liked their character, Pittman at her request and due to scheduling conflicts. The other two remain, serving as welcome foils for our central three, who in this season are continuing to navigate life in their 50s in New York City. Carrie is still in a relationship with Aidan (John Corbett), but he’s requested a ******* of ‘no-contact’ as he goes back to Virginia to be closer to his troubled son Wyatt. Meanwhile, Charlotte is still juggling the demands of her career alongside being mum to two teen kids — Miranda, newly divorced from Steve (David Eigenberg), is dating up a storm having moved on from her fraught relationship with Che Diaz. Fans will surely enjoy spending more time with their old friends once more, but whether they’ll be satisfied enough to stick around still remains to be seen. There’s every chance viewers may now consider the series a ‘hate-watch’, in the vein of shows like Emily in Paris, or the pulpy-but-watchable Netflix series You — they may dip in purely because of the show’s remembered past. Options traders tracked by Bloomberg predicting the stock will likely gain or lose as much as 7.4% the following day. That would be a lower level of volatility than what we’ve seen the last eight quarters with an average swing of over 11%. Joining us now, we’ve got Sean McLaughlin. He is All Star Charts Chief Options strategist. Sean, great to speak with you. I know you’ve sent over in your notes that if you were trading Nvidia right now, you’d be positioning for a neutral to positive earnings reaction. Talk to me about why that’s your base case. 01:04 Sean So, what I tend to see happen when earnings events happen is that if there is a surprise move in the market, that surprise move tends to happen in the direction of the underlying trend. And there’s no denying that the underlying trend in Nvidia and all the quantum stocks, uh, has been up, uh, coming off the Liberation Day lows. Uh, and so, if there is any surprise, I think Nvidia is going to be higher. Um, I’m not necessarily predicting that we will have a huge pop higher, but I think if there is one to happen, odds are it will be higher. I think more likely Nvidia is going to have maybe a little a muted response, a little underwhelming response, uh, to the market or to the expectations. And therefore, as an options trader, I want to play this, uh, play this earnings event with an option spread that that pays me whether the stock goes up, the stock goes sideways. Really, I I just don’t want it to go down very big. That that’s the way I’m playing it. 03:12 Speaker A Sean, can you operationalize that for me and for our options traders listening in? What exactly is your approach to that? 03:24 Sean Sure. So I’m going to utilize an in-the-money call spread. A vertical spread that it consists of an in-the-money option or in-the-money call and an at a short and an at-the-money call. So what I’m doing is I’m leveraging the fact that there’s a lot of premium at the at-the-money strike. So looking at Nvidia right now, it’s trading at 130, in the neighborhood of 130. So I want to be short the 130 strike, but I want to buy the 120 strike. So there’s $10 wide difference between those strikes. And I want a position in the options that expire next Friday, that’s May 30th. That’s the the soonest expiration following earnings. And because I’m getting a lot of premium to sell that 130 strike right now, if Nvidia were to absolutely ******, I don’t think it will, but it could, right? It it could happen. Well, playing this event with an option spread, I will be better protected versus say a normal stock trader. If I’m long Nvidia stock and the stock gaps down to, let’s say, 110 or 120 following earnings, I’m going to lose a lot more money had I been positioned in stock versus, uh, the options because of the fact that I’m selling premium at the at-the-money strike, which really gives me a lot of cushion. By the end of the decade, new emissions rules and rising fuel prices created what many call the Malaise Era. Yet despite that, several 1970s models have seen their values climb dramatically. To assemble this list, we verified each car’s original sticker price and adjusted for inflation using the official U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics calculator. We then compared those numbers to average private ***** prices from Classic.com and recent auction results reported by Hagerty and Bring a Trailer. I first checked around for 1970s cars with a hefty price tag, but we wanted it to be more specific than that. Its dramatically slanted and narrowed front is a standout feature to me, giving it that “this is what the future of cars will look like” vibe from the ’70s and ’80s. (Unfortunately, they were wrong.) This prestigious and collectible supercar is unsurprisingly seen at auction going for millions these days, but if you’re brave enough to drive such an expensive car, you’re in for quite the experience, said Road & Track. 1979 Datsun 260Z – $57,357 Image Credit: Berthold Werner, public domain/ Wiki Commons. Original Price: $4,180 ($19,528 in today’s money). Some of the best cars of the 1970s were not American muscle cars, as proven by the Datsun 260Z, one of Nissan’s many Z-cars. With a slightly increased engine size over the 240Z, the 260Z had a short-lived run in America from 1974 to the end of 1978. According to Hagerty, Nissan sold 450,000 Z cars in the United States from 1969 to 1978, but most are long gone, so it’s a pretty rare car to come across today. When looking for a 260Z, avoid the 2+2. This was a unique seat configuration offered with the 260Z that was unpopular back then and is still undesirable now. The market value of the 2+2 is very low, with parts being difficult to come by and nobody really fitting in the backseats except children. But who’s using a Datsun 260Z to drive children around? The original Aston Martin Vantage is often referred to as “Britain’s first supercar.” According to Autoevolution, that’s all thanks to a 300+ hp 5.3-liter V8 engine that got the sporty coupe up to 60 mph in less than 6 seconds and boasted a top speed of 170 mph. The 1973 Aston Martin Vantage wasn’t just fast but also extremely stylish, with a prominent hood scoop, leather bucket seats, and a complex dashboard. It gives collectors a more refined option but with the same power as a muscle car of the same decade. Original Price: $10,000 ($77,635 in today’s money). Dyler tells us that the Maserati Bora is a rare supercar from the ’70s. This was Maserati’s first mid-engine road car, with the U.S. imports featuring a 4.9-liter V8 with 310 hp, shooting it to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds and reaching a top speed above 170 mph. It may not be the fastest car of the decade, but the attention to detail of its design has made it unreachable. The Bora had a wedge-shaped body with a stainless steel roof panel for artistic contrast. According to Hagerty, it also had a mid-mounted engine, adding to the car’s focus on sportiness and luxury. From 1971 to 1979, only 500 Maserati Bora cars made it to the United States. 1977 Ferrari 308 GTB – $177,987 Image Credit: Charles, CC BY 2.0 / Wiki Commons. Original Price: $28,780 ($156,977 in today’s money). A 1977 issue of Car and Driver found the Ferrari 308 GTB to be an overall rewarding driving experience, with a surprisingly comfortable cockpit that doesn’t hinder the car’s performance. Only 12,000 308s were ever made, and just 712 of them have fiberglass bodies. It has a 3.0-liter V8 mid-engine that produces 240 hp and an iconic modern appearance that puts the 308 GTB ahead of its time. Pop-up *********** and an angular wedge shape set the Ferrari 308 GTB apart. But let’s be real, the value lies in it being a Ferrari. Back in the ’70s, MotorTrend journalist Steve Kelly reported that the Boss had a 302 V8 engine with 290 hp that pushed a quarter mile in 14.64 seconds. But it thrives on the streets and the track after all these years. Despite being a pretty affordable car back in the day, the Mustang is part of classic Americana now. Original Price: $17,000 ($104,115 in today’s money). This is the sickest car on the list; I don’t care what anybody says. FCA Heritage, a site dedicated to sharing Lancia’s rich history, teaches us that the Lancia Stratos HF took over rally racing in the 1970s, known as the first car specifically built for the infamous Group B class. Its focus on rally racing gave the Lancia Stratos HF a unique look, including a short wheelbase, a fiberglass body, and an extreme wedge-shaped body. What started as a win at the 1974 World Rally Championship resulted in plenty more victories, making this a high-performance car with the records to back it up. 1973 Pontiac Trans Am Super Duty – $163,383 Image Credit: YouTube / Lou Costabile. RareCars.com called the Trans Am Super Duty 455 the “end of the muscle car era.” Despite the stricter emissions regulations after 1970, the Trans Am Super Duty 455 attempted to power through it with a 290-hp 7.5-liter V8 engine. To go along with its defiant performance, the Trans Am featured a shaker hood and the iconic “screaming chicken” hood decal. Original Price: $13,000 ($97,372 in today’s money). What car list is complete without a 911? Porsche says the 911 was released in 1963, and it’s remained a staple in car culture ever since. In the 1970s, they had the Porsche 911 Carrera RS, with 1973 being the last year of the first generation. With a design and performance focused on racing, this is now one of the most respected and sought-after 911s ever. The Porsche 911 Carrera RS featured a 2.7-liter flat-six engine with 210 hp. At launch, it cost about $26,000 — close to double the price of a naturally aspirated 911 — and today, early 930s regularly fetch six-figure sums, often north of $300,000. A few weeks ago, Elden Ring’s director, Juna Ishizaki, shared a bunch of details about the title and what players can expect out of the story. One of the many features we’ll be seeing in the co-op is Remembrance for each of the eight classes in the game. Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about this new system in Elden Ring Nightreign. Understanding Remembrances in Elden Ring Nightreign Well, if you’re someone who’s played Elden Ring before, you’ll be familiar with Remembrances. Basically, they’re items that are dropped when you take down tackle and defeat some of the biggest bosses in the Souslike. They can be traded for unique weapons or cashed in for Runes. However, Remembrances won’t function like that in Elden Ring Nightreign; it’s a different experience, so expect everything to be different. In the co-op, players will still be able to obtain Remembrances after fighting it out against certain bosses in the game. The twist here is that they will also tell you the backstories of Nightfares, or the eight-class characters. Remembrances in Elden Ring Nightreign go beyond allowing players to opt for different playstyles and team compositions. They’re supposed to give us an insight into the characters with unique stories. Between your matches, you will be able to engage with the Remembrances collected by visiting the library in the Roundtable Conference. He admitted that the game is limited in duo play. According to Ishizaki, the development team’s oversight caused the lack of two-player squads. It wasn’t a deliberate decision, as FromSoftware accidentally missed the duos component. The perfect example would be the Through a Nightmare, Darkly quest. While the original version of this quest predates Christopher Nolan’s Inception by several years, its dream-within-a-dream concept draws an awfully similar comparison to the 2010 movie. The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered revives the one perfect side quest that astounds everyone The player helps out Kug-El in The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered | Bethesda Entertainment This particular side quest revolves around Henantier from his Dreamworld, who has been actively trapped there for a while. Furthermore, the test of Patience is laden with traps and pressure plates that you need to navigate carefully, or else you risk getting fired at by arrows. Pass through the test of Courage and the test of Resolve next, and you will finally be able to escape Dreamland with Henantier. As a reward, he also gives six scrolls. After coming out, the player also gets all of his inventory back, putting an end to the Through a Nightmare, Darkly quest side quest that feels nothing less than a Christopher Nolan movie. I prepared myself for the toddler years, when — I knew — plants would likely be trodden on, tomatoes picked prematurely, flowers plucked off plants. What I did not prepare myself for was just how much happiness I would experience watching our boy devour fresh broad beans, dig tiny holes for new seedlings, chatter with worms, or rearrange my potted bulb collection with giddy joy. I thought having a child would make gardening harder. And in some ways, I admit, it has. But I have learnt that there is nothing quite so uniquely motivating as seeing your garden through your child’s eyes. I have discovered that if your plant-loving kid asks you to grow them a patch of sweet corn, to take them to the garden nursery or to install a giant natural pond surrounded by impossibly heavy stone and bordered by ferns and logs, the only natural response is: “Okay, where do we start?”. This is how Henry Nicholls’ pond came to be. Henry is 10 years old. A nature lover from birth, he is, in large part, responsible for the huge natural pond that fills one corner of his family garden. And that it would be magical and interesting, and it would just add to the garden a lot.” The pond is built from heavy stones that his parents transported from a farm three hours south of Perth, as well as large boulders that were found onsite. Turns out, we were right. FromSoftware isn’t holding back. One look at Libra: Creature of Night, a newly revealed Nightlord boss, proves they’re doubling down on challenge. This towering goat terror demands hyper-awareness, sharp reflexes, and a healthy fear of AoE spells. So whether you’re a battle-hardened Tarnished or a lore-loving spellcaster, you’re going to need more than just brute force to survive this one. What to expect from Libra: Creature of Night in Elden Ring: Nightreign at start Libra doesn’t just walk into the arena; it tries to **** you first. Disguised as the Scale-Bearing Merchant, it greets players with a deal: pick one of three benefits- a strength buff, an ailment resistance buff, or a free revive. Sounds tempting, right? Don’t be fooled. Each of them also comes with a hidden debuff, meaning your buff of choice could easily become your downfall if you’re not prepared. You can also refuse entirely… though that won’t spare you from what’s coming. Once the deal is made (or declined), the merchant sheds its disguise and reveals its true form: a towering, goat-like monstrosity with glowing Frenzy eyes and a staff that’s ******* than most Tarnished. Libra’s first phase is a good mix of ranged magic and melee punishment. It starts out with some AoE glyphs cast that explode after a delay, so always stay moving to avoid these. It will then summon floating orbs that shoot beams of light rain and ground-based light projectiles. Luckily, Libra stays mostly still while casting these spells, giving you a brief window to dodge the attacks and land some quick hits as well. After casting spells, Libra switches to melee. In this state, he uses 2-3 hit combos with sweeping swings, quick jabs, and occasional ground slams that explode afterward (1-2 seconds later). Dodge sideways or behind it to avoid damage and punish during the recovery *******. In between those combos, Libra also uses ground slams and straight-line pounces, which are fast and hit hard if you’re not ready. But after the slam, it gives you a slight moment of delay to get a few hits in. One important thing to note: This frenzied state is not permanent, so if the boss enters it early, he will get out faster as well. He will also have a chance to enter it once again later in the fight. Essentially, the second phase is all about chaos. Libra doesn’t give much breathing room, and its attacks come faster and hit harder. You’ll need to stay alert, keep moving, and watch for patterns if you want to survive the madness. Here are some key tips for a few of its frenzy mode attacks: Ground pounce combos: roll away from where it’s about to land. Pounce chain: Dodge toward Libra to avoid this Lava floor (boss open the floor)Roll to the side and escape the AoE AoE rain (from top of his head): move out of range Always keep an eye out for madness-reducing drops, which fall when you hit the boss. These drops help manage your Frenzy buildup. However, only grab them when it’s safe; don’t get caught mid-heal or mid-attack in an AoE. The biggest mistake in this entire fight is getting greedy. This is a fight of patience, positioning, and short bursts of damage. Don’t chase the boss; let Libra come to you (you won’t even have to ask twice), then strike when it’s vulnerable (during casting or from behind). Lorgen then proceeds to fight the player, and killing him would lift the curse. Lorgren’s staff and the book Tome of Unlife can be picked up to keep or sell. The furniture and decorations of the manor will be restored, and the lighting will be returned to normal. The quest will be completed after players meet Velwyn Benirus at The Count’s Arms. US President Donald Trump has suggested the swap could herald a new phase in stop-start efforts to negotiate a peace deal between Moscow and Kyiv. There should be 1000 prisoners released on each side over three days. Saturday’s swap was announced by Russia’s defence ministry, and separately by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy in a post on social media platform Telegram. “Tomorrow we expect more,” Zelenskiy wrote. “Our goal is to return each and every one of us from Russian captivity.” Reuters Television footage showed freed Ukrainian servicemen at a rendezvous point inside Ukraine coming off buses draped in blue and yellow national flags as waiting family members chanted: “Welcome!” Serviceman Dmytro Havrylenko held his son, and his mother, in a very long embrace. “I am shocked to be honest,” he said. “These were 17 difficult months, very difficult. But everything is fine.” Women held up photos of missing servicemen and gathered around returnees to ask about their whereabouts. One woman, identifying herself as Yana, said no one had any news of her husband, missing since Ukrainian forces launched an incursion into Russia’s Kursk region last year. “Maybe the boys will recognise his photo and share some information,” she said. “We’re here for the second day. Maybe today.” Footage released by Zelenskiy’s office showed one released serviceman in tears and being consoled by a woman in military uniform. People assigned to greet the soldiers handed them mobile phones, so they could call relatives. “I can’t believe I’m home,” one man said. A short video released by the Russian defence ministry showed Russian service personnel disembarking from buses and posing with the Russian flag, as well as the flags of the Soviet Union and the Russian Empire. The first part of the exchange took place on Friday when Russia and Ukraine each released 390 prisoners, including 120 civilians, and said they would free more in the coming days. On Friday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Russia would be ready to hand Ukraine a draft document outlining conditions for a long-term peace agreement once the current prisoner exchange was completed. Saturday’s release took place a few hours after the Ukrainian capital was rocked by an overnight Russian bombardment using long-range drones and ballistic missiles, in which 15 people were injured. The prisoner exchange was agreed at short-lived talks in Istanbul on May 16 between Russian and Ukrainian delegations, who had come together at the urging of Trump. US airlines dominate the world’s rankings, operating the four largest fleets. Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and American Airlines also lead the world in revenue, while Southwest isn’t far behind, either. The last of those is a budget airline, and this is evident in its fleet, which consists entirely of Boeing 737s. While the big three mainline carriers may seem pretty similar, there are some key differences. For example, United Airlines heavily favors Boeing planes, while only Delta operates wide-body Airbus jets. United also operates the world’s largest fleet with more than 1,000 planes. However, it is also has the oldest in the US on average. Delta, meanwhile, operates the oldest jet that’s still flying. More than half of those are Boeing 737s, which is unsurprising given that United is the planemaker’s biggest customer. Unlike its legacy competitors, United shows a clear preference for Boeing planes. Airbus jets make up less than a fifth of its fleet. United’s oldest plane that’s still flying is a 34-year-old Boeing 767. Registered as N641UA, it was delivered in April 1991. While this is nearly two years younger than the oldest plane operated by a US airline, United has the oldest fleet with an average age of 15.8 years. Delta Air Lines About half of Delta’s fleet was made by Boeing.REUTERS/Elijah Nouvelage Delta Air Lines has the oldest plane still flying in the US — a Boeing 757 that was delivered just over 35 years ago. It’s registered as N649DL and appears to typically operate charter flights. In fact, Delta also owns the next 21 oldest aircraft, which are a mix of 757s and 767s delivered between 1989 and 1991. However, the average age of its fleet is still slightly younger than United’s, at 15.2 years. About half its 979 planes were made by Boeing, and half by Airbus, per Ch-aviation data. Boeing jets make up the bulk of its narrow-body aircraft, but if you’re flying long-haul with Delta, it’s more likely you’ll find yourself on an Airbus. Tariffs have complicated its orders from the European planemaker. Earlier this month, Airbus sent an A350 from its delivery center in Toulouse, France, to Tokyo, so Delta avoided paying tariffs. A similar tactic was used five years ago, when the World Trade Organisation permitted tariffs on aircraft as high as 15%, as the US and European Union accused one another of unfair subsidies for Airbus and Boeing. For 16 seconds up ahead in the finale to the stage at Nova Gorica on Saturday, Denmark’s Kasper Asgreen, who’d got into an early breakaway, escaped on his own to steal the win which had looked tailor-made for the sprinters. Groves, who had been looking for another win in the 108th Giro after victory on the ******-laden sixth stage in Naples, had to settle for second this time in the 168km trek from across the border in Treviso as the Alpecin-Deceuninck ace edged out Dutchman Olav Kooij, winner of Thursday’s stage 12. For Groves that’s now four top-five finishes in this year’s race but this one will doubtless come as a frustration on a wet, slippery day after Asgreen stole a march from the breakaway five kilometres from home, splashing away to his second Grand Tour win. Behind him there had been chaos after a ****** which enabled the overall race leader Isaac del Toro to gain time on many of his biggest rivals who’d been slowed by the pile-up about 22km from the finish that occurred on a narrow cobblestoned section. Del Toro, the first ******** rider to wear the leader’s pink jersey, benefited by featuring in the second group containing Groves. But his UAE Team Emirates teammate Juan Ayuso, 2023 champion Primoz Roglic and top-placed Italian Antonio Tiberi all finished further behind, along with Australia’s main GC hope Michael Storer. “We wanted to be ahead in case accidents like that happen or there are splits in the group,” said del Toro. He entered the stage 38 seconds up on Ayuso and improved his lead to 1 minute 20 seconds, but his nearest challenger now is Briton Simon Yates (Team Visma-Lease a Bike) with his Spanish teammate dropping to third, 1:26 behind. The 2019 champion Richard Carapaz is fourth, 2:07 behind; and Roglic is 2:23 adrift in fifth, with Storer now 13th at 4:25. Mads Pedersen, who might have fancied a fifth stage win of the race, also had his chances ended in the ****** and had to change bikes. “In the second half of a Grand Tour, everybody has tired legs and that made the difference today for the breakaway to be successful,” Asgreen said. “The weather conditions have definitely played in my favor.
