  1. Russian strikes kill eight across Ukraine, officials say Russian strikes kill eight across Ukraine, officials say At least eight people have been killed and more than 30 injured across Ukraine in overnight Russian drone and missile attacks, regional officials have said. Three deaths were reported in the Kyiv region, and one in the southern city of Mykolaiv. Four more deaths were reported in Ukraine’s western Khmelnytskyi region. It comes a day after Kyiv suffered one of the heaviest assaults since the start of the Russian invasion. Russia’s defence ministry said its air defence units shot down or intercepted 95 Ukrainian drones over a number of Russian regions, including Moscow, during a four-hour ******* on Saturday night. Russian officials did not report any casualties. The drone attack forced a brief suspension of all flights at Moscow’s airports. Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and Moscow currently controls about 20% of Ukrainian territory. This includes Crimea – Ukraine’s southern peninsula annexed by Russia in 2014. In a statement on Telegram, Kyiv regional head Mykola Kalashnyk said three people were killed in the Russian attacks and 10 others were injured. Kalashnyk posted photos of several houses set ablaze after the Russian strikes. In the capital Kyiv, local officials reported 11 injuries, multiple fires and damage to residential buildings, including a dormitory. Hundreds of people were seen sheltering in underground stations of the city’s metro. It comes as the capital marks its annual Kyiv Day holiday on Sunday. In Mykolaiv, Ukraine’s state emergencies service DSNS said the body of an elderly man was pulled out from a five-storey residential building hit by a drone. Another five people were injured. In Kharkiv, regional authorities reported three injuries. In Russia, the defence ministry said that Ukrainian drones targeted eight Russian regions. “From 20:00 Moscow time (17:00 GMT) on 24 May to 00:00 on 25 May, air defence units on duty destroyed and intercepted 95 Ukrainian aircraft-type unmanned aerial vehicles,” the ministry said in a statement. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that 12 drones heading towards the capital capital were shot down. He added that emergency services crews were deployed to assess damage caused by falling drone debris. Li arrived in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, on Saturday afternoon for a three-day visit to Southeast Asia’s largest economy. It was the first stop of his first overseas visit this year. Indonesia and China are member states of the Group 20 major developing countries and emerging economies and of BRICS. Li brought 60 ******** prominent businesspeople for his address to the Indonesia-China Business Reception on Sunday evening. He emphasized in his remarks that China’s economy has achieved rapid growth this year despite increasing external challenges. “The current international situation is a stalemate,” Li said at the event which was also attended by Subianto, “Unilateralism and protectionism are on the rise, bullying behavior is increasing.” Li noted that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the Non-Aligned Movement which was held by Asian and African countries in Indonesia’s Bandung city, when the world was at a historical crossroads more than seven decades ago. The Bandung spirit of solidarity, friendship and cooperation has played a pivotal role in the unity and cooperation of the Global South countries, Li said. “More than seven decades later, the world is once again at an important crossroads,” Li said. He called on all countries to seek common ground while resolving differences through dialogue and peaceful coexistence. Subianto expressed gratitude to the ******** government and its companies “that have participated in our economy, created jobs, transferred technology and built trust among all businesses, especially in our homeland.” He also invited ******** businesspeople to invest more in Indonesia. Two-way trade exceeded US$147.8 billion last year, growing by 6.1%. Li said for nine consecutive years, China has been Indonesia’s largest trading partner, and its Belt and Road cooperation program has seen substantive progress, including nickel smelting plants and Whoosh, the commercial service of Southeast Asia’s first high-speed railway which has been operating since October 2023, carrying nearly 10 million passengers. Indonesia wants a larger role in supplying nickel and other raw materials to China’s fast-growing electric car makers. On Sunday, Subianto hosted Li in a ceremony at Merdeka Palace in Jakarta. 6. Why Kia’s PV5 Might Be the Most Versatile EV Yet Why Kia’s PV5 Might Be the Most Versatile EV Yet Kia is shaking up the electric van world with the all-new PV5, a modular EV designed for both businesses and everyday drivers who need space, flexibility, and efficiency. Unveiled at Kia’s EV Day, this innovative vehicle caught the attention of the team at the Fully Charged Show, which highlighted its game-changing versatility. Unlike most electric vans, which are often just modified gas models, the PV5 is built from the ground up as an EV, giving it better space efficiency, smarter design, and a lower cost of ownership. Think of it as Kia’s answer to the Volkswagen ID. Buzz, but with an even greater focus on practicality. Whether you need a cargo hauler, a roomy family van, or even a mobile workspace, the PV5’s modular design makes it one of the most adaptable electric vehicles on the market. And with a starting price expected to undercut competitors, this could be the van that finally gives the commercial EV market the boost it needs. Let’s take a closer look at why the PV5 is turning heads. What Makes the PV5 Stand Out? The PV5 stands out with its boxy, functional design, optimized for both commercial and passenger use. Unlike the ID. Buzz, which leans more towards lifestyle applications, the PV5 is engineered with practicality at its core. Its modular architecture allows for various configurations, catering to diverse business needs. At launch, Kia plans to offer three primary body styles: Passenger, Cargo, and Chassis Cab. The Passenger version features a spacious interior with three rows of seats that can be adjusted or removed to accommodate different passenger or cargo requirements. The Cargo model is available in standard, long, and high-roof configurations, providing ample space for goods and equipment. The Chassis Cab variant offers a blank canvas for businesses to customize the rear section according to specific operational needs, such as refrigerated units or specialized equipment. Advanced Electric Platform Built on Kia’s E-GMP.S platform—a derivative of the Electric Global Modular Platform—the PV5 benefits from a dedicated electric vehicle architecture. This design choice results in a low load floor, enhancing cargo capacity and ease of access. The flat platform also contributes to a more spacious interior, allowing for flexible seating and storage arrangements. Powertrain and Performance The PV5 is equipped with a front-mounted electric motor producing 161 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. Customers can choose between two nickel-manganese-cobalt (NCM) battery options: a 51.5-kWh pack and a 71.2-kWh pack. Additionally, the Cargo variant offers a 43.3-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery option. The Passenger model with the 71.2-kWh battery boasts a range of up to 248 miles on the WLTP cycle, while the Cargo version offers a maximum cargo space of 5.1 cubic meters, accommodating two Euro-sized pallets. Charging Capabilities Kia claims that the PV5 can charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes, enhancing its practicality for businesses requiring quick turnaround times. This rapid charging capability ensures minimal downtime, a crucial factor for commercial operations. Affordability and Market Positioning One of the most compelling aspects of the PV5 is its competitive pricing. In Europe, the Cargo variant is expected to start between £25,000 and £30,000, significantly undercutting rivals like the Ford E-Transit Custom and Volkswagen ID. Buzz Cargo, which are priced higher. This aggressive pricing strategy positions the PV5 as an attractive option for businesses looking to transition to electric fleets without incurring substantial costs. Future Prospects Kia plans to expand the PV5 lineup with additional variants, including a wheelchair-accessible vehicle (WAV), a crew cab, and specialized configurations like freezer boxes and campers. These forthcoming versions will further enhance the PV5’s appeal across various industries, from logistics to leisure. The PV5 is scheduled to launch in Korea and Europe in the second half of 2025, with other markets to follow in 2026. A Game-Changer for Commercial EVs? The Kia PV5 represents a significant advancement in the electric van market, offering a blend of versatility, practicality, and affordability. Its modular design and competitive pricing make it a game-changer for businesses and individuals seeking efficient and customizable electric transportation solutions. 9. BMW Is Making 70 Of These Gorgeous M8-Based Speedtop Shooting Brakes BMW Is Making 70 Of These Gorgeous M8-Based Speedtop Shooting Brakes Last year BMW unveiled the beautiful 8 Series–based Skytop concept at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, a few months later announcing that it would be building a limited run of 50 production cars that would look nearly identical to the concept. We have yet to see the production Skytop yet, but this year’s Villa d’Este gathering is upon us, and BMW has revealed a new concept called the Speedtop that is essentially a shooting brake version of the Skytop. The Speedtop looks absolutely gorgeous, and like its sibling it won’t remain just a concept — BMW already announced that it will be making 70 Speedtops, available to order now. People were sad that the Z4 shooting brake concept from Villa d’Este 2023 was never made, but I think this is much better. It won’t come to the U.S., sadly, but that doesn’t mean we can’t drool over the details. Head of design Adrian van Hooydonk says the Speedtop is “an exclamation mark for our entire lineup of vehicles, especially for the Touring models,” and BMW describes the car as being perfect for a two-person weekend getaway. Read more: Every Car You Can Get With A Manual In 2025 It’s Just Wonderful Front 3/4 view of the red BMW Speedtop concept – BMW Aside from chrome strakes in the grilles and intakes, the Speedtop is identical to the Skytop from the A-pillar forward, which is totally fine. With their shark nose front ends, clean surfacing, Bangle-like tail ends and thoughtful detailing, the Speedtop and Skytop are a lot more elegant and exciting than BMW’s other current offerings, and certainly more beautiful than anything the company has put out since the i8. Obviously, the biggest changes are at the roofline and the rear end. The tailgate is raked steeply forward, with a sharp spoiler at the edge of the roof. The C-pillar’s Hofmeister kink is both simpler and more dramatically shaped than what we’ve seen on other recent Bimmers, and the car’s profile overall is quite athletic. The Floating Sunstone Maroon paint of the show car fades into Floating Sundown Silver in a gradient on the roof, which is bisected by a physical spine that appears to run from the tip of the nose all the way to the tail. BMW also gave the Speedtop different wheels from the Skytop, with a more open, less turbofan-style design. Familiar Interior With Some Nice Twists Interior of the BMW Speedtop concept – BMW While I wish the interior of the Speedtop was more differentiated from the 8 Series on which it’s based, the color scheme, details and cargo area make up for it. Everything is finished in Sundown Maroon and Moonstone White leather, and there are painted trim pieces that match the exterior color — thankfully there’s no carbon fiber in sight. The two-tone split of the headliner echoes the design of the car’s roof, with the spine being an ambient light bar. All of the leather is enhanced with brogue detailing, and thankfully there’s a lot of BMW’s faceted crystal trim, including in the headrests. Behind the two seats are open spaces for a pair of fancy matching handbags made by Schedoni, and between the two cubbies is a waterfall-style console with additional storage space. There’s a third weekend bag that goes in the leather-lined trunk, which has multiple adjustable levels that reveal a fairly deep partially enclosed space and ambient lighting that encircles it all. Surely Expensive Cargo area of the BMW Speedtop concept – BMW BMW hasn’t given any specs for the Speedtop beyond saying it has “the most powerful V8 engine” that the company currently sells. We know the car will use the M8 as its basis, which will mean at least 617 horsepower, all-wheel drive and fairly advanced chassis systems. The Skytop has been spied testing at the Nürburgring, so the Speedtop should have at least some sporting pretensions. Bernd Körber, senior vice president of the BMW brand and product management, says the Skytop “generated great enthusiasm among connoisseurs and automotive enthusiasts,” and because of that positive reaction the Speedtop was able to be greenlit. BMW hasn’t yet said how much the Speedtop will cost, but the Skytop will cost around $500,000, so expect the Speedtop to be at least that much. We don’t know exactly when it’ll enter production either, but the first Skytops will reach their owners early next year. Want more like this? 12. Scientists Warn That Massive Flooding and Tsunamis Could Hit 3 Major Regions in the U.S. Scientists Warn That Massive Flooding and Tsunamis Could Hit 3 Major Regions in the U.S. A new study from researchers at Virginia Tech warns that parts of Northern California, Oregon and Washington are at risk of serious flooding — and even tsunamis The study’s authors explain that an earthquake in the Cascadia subduction zone, along with rising sea levels, puts a greater area of land at tsunami and flood risk than previously thought The scientists hope their findings will encourage communities in the region to prepare for the potential effects of large-scale flooding Parts of the Pacific Northwest in the United States are at an increased risk of massive flooding — and potentially even landslides and tsunamis — in the coming years, according to new research. A study conducted by Virginia Tech researchers published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences says that an earthquake in the Cascadia subduction zone (CSZ) — which stretches from northern California to Vancouver Island, British Columbia — combined with rising sea levels could cause coastal land in Northern California, Oregon and Washington to sink up to 6.5 ft. Getty Sausalito in San Francisco The PEOPLE App is now available in the Apple App Store! Download it now for the most binge-worthy celeb content, exclusive video clips, astrology updates and more! This would increase the amount of land at risk of flooding in the region from 35 square miles to 116 square miles and would impact thousands of people and properties, per the study. The researchers additionally stressed that earthquake-driven land sinkage and climate-driven sea-level rise “need to be considered in tsunami inundation maps.” They say that current tsunami inundation maps of the region — which show areas that would potentially be affected by an earthquake-caused tsunami — do not take rising sea levels into account, nor the “amplification effect it will have on future tsunamis.” AFP via Getty After effects of a tsunami in India in 2004 Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. The Virginia Tech researchers came to their conclusions by generating tens of thousands of earthquake models to estimate the potential range of damage that can be expected from the next large Cascadia earthquake, per an article on the university’s website. Because the timing of the next large earthquake cannot be known, the researchers created two versions of their models — one in which an earthquake in the CSZ struck today and another in which it struck 75 years from now in 2100, when “climate-driven sea-level rise will further amplify the impacts” of an earthquake. The researchers estimate that if an earthquake were to happen today, an additional 14,350 residents, 22,500 structures and 777 miles of roadway would fall within the post-earthquake floodplain — which is more than double that of previous models, per Virginia Tech. The study’s authors ultimately hope that these findings will motivate communities in the Pacific Northwest to prepare for these potential outcomes, especially because it has been estimated that there is a 15% chance that a magnitude eight earthquake or greater will occur in the CSZ within the next 50 years. “Preparing for these compound hazards can minimize long-term damage, ensure resilient communities and protect critical coastal ecosystems from permanent degradation,” the researchers said in their study. 14. ASEAN must stay united to fight US tariffs: Malaysia ASEAN must stay united to fight US tariffs: Malaysia Southeast Asian nations must accelerate regional economic integration, diversify their markets and stay united to tackle the fallout from global trade disruptions resulting from sweeping US tariff hikes. Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan’s call for a united front came in his opening speech at a meeting of foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. He also reiterated the bloc’s call to warring parties in Myanmar to end hostilities in a deadly civil war that has killed thousands and displaced millions of people since a 2021 government takeover by the military. “ASEAN nations are among those most heavily affected by the US-imposed tariffs,” he said. The US–China trade war is dramatically disrupting production and trade patterns worldwide. “A global economic slowdown is likely to happen,” Mohamad said. “We must seize this moment to deepen regional economic integration, so that we can better shield our region from external shocks.” ASEAN countries, many of which rely on exports to the US, are reeling from tariffs imposed by the Trump administration ranging from 10 per cent to 49 per cent. Six of the association’s 10 member nations were among the worst-hit with tariffs ranging from 32 per cent to 49 per cent. ASEAN unsuccessfully sought an initial meeting with the US as a bloc. When US President Donald Trump last month announced a 90-day pause on the tariffs, countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam swiftly began trade negotiations with Washington. The meeting of foreign ministers preceded a planned ASEAN leaders’ summit Monday in Malaysia, the bloc’s current chair. A summit is expected to follow on Tuesday with ******** Premier Li Qiang and leaders from the Gulf Co-operation Council comprising Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. ASEAN’s unity is crucial as the region grapples with impacts of climate change and disruption from the malevolent use of artificial intelligence and other unregulated technologies, Mohamad said, adding that ASEAN’s centrality will be tested by external pressure, including a superpower rivalry. “External pressures are rising, and the scope of challenges has never had higher stakes,” he said. “It is therefore crucial that we reinforce the ties that bind us, so as to not unravel under external pressures. For ASEAN, unity is now more important than ever.” ASEAN remained committed to help war-torn Myanmar, which is recovering from a March earthquake that killed more than 3700 people, Mohamad said. Myanmar’s military leaders were barred from attending ASEAN meetings after refusing to comply with ASEAN’s peace plan, which includes negotiations and delivery of humanitarian aid. 15. Mob kills Royal Bengal tiger in India’s Assam state Mob kills Royal Bengal tiger in India’s Assam state A Royal Bengal tiger was killed and dismembered by a mob in India’s north eastern state of Assam, a forest official has said. Angry residents from a village in the Golaghat district reportedly took the step because the tiger had killed livestock in the area and posed a threat to their lives. The state’s forest department has registered a case. Instances of man-animal conflict are not new to Assam. This is the third tiger killing that has been reported this year. Top forest official Gunadeep Das told Times of India newspaper that the tiger had died from sharp wounds and not gunshots. The carcass was later recovered in the presence of a magistrate, reports say. Mr Das told a local newspaper that “around a thousand people had gathered to kill the tiger” and that some of them attacked the tiger with machetes. He added that the tiger’s carcass had been sent for an autopsy. Mrinal Saikia, a lawmaker from Assam state condemned the killing on X. He shared a video that showed the purported dead body of the tiger with parts of its skin, face and legs missing. The BBC has not independently verified the video. “This is a very painful act. The Earth is not only for humans, it is for animals as well,” he said in the post, adding that strict action will be taken against those involved in the killing. Another forest official, Sonali Ghosh told local media that the origins of the tiger were unclear. According to reports, the animal was killed about 20km (12 miles) away from the Kaziranga National Park. Latest data by Assam’s forest department shows the population of tigers in the state has steadily increased from just 70 in 2006 to 190 in 2019 due to various conservation efforts. However, instances of tigers being killed due to conflict with villagers have been often reported in the media, which could be because of shrinking habitat and lack of protection of tiger corridors between different national parks in the state. Tigers are a protected species under India’s Wildlife Protection Act (1972), which prohibits poaching, hunting and trade of tiger parts. 18. Sorry Day healing for stolen generations survivors Sorry Day healing for stolen generations survivors Aunty Lorraine Peeters was taken from her family at the age of four. The Gamilaroi and Wailwan woman and her five sisters were forcibly removed from their home at Brewarrina, in outback NSW, and placed at Cootamundra Domestic Training Home for Aboriginal Girls. Her two brothers were taken to Kinchela Aboriginal Boys Training Home. The institutions were brutal and the children taken there – under accepted government policies – often experienced mistreatment and abuse. These children, removed during a ******* spanning from the 1910s until the 1970s, became known as the stolen generations. “For the next 10 years of my life I was taught another’s culture, forced to forget my own, given a new identity,” Aunty Lorraine told AAP. “The things they couldn’t change were the colour of my skin, my identity and my spirit.” For many stolen generations survivors, National Sorry Day, held each year on May 26, is an acknowledgement of their experiences and the continuing impact of forced removal from community and family. “It’s an important day for us. It’s a healing day for us,” Aunty Lorraine said. “We all come together, share childhood memories, they’re all our sisters, they’re family.” The date also marks the anniversary of the tabling of the Bringing Them Home report to parliament in 1997. The landmark report shared the history of stolen generations in Australia and made more than 50 recommendations to address the impacts on survivors. However, only a few of the recommendations had been fully implemented, according to a recent Healing Foundation report, despite the report being tabled nearly three decades ago. Foundation chief executive Shannan Dodson said supporting survivors through equitable redress, access to records, trauma-informed aged care and support for the organisations that represented them should be prioritised by all governments. “It’s really important that we, as a matter of urgency, put that elevation of their needs at the top, as most survivors are now eligible for aged care,” she said. “We’ve already lost too many survivors without them seeing some of these things and the justice they deserve.” The 2025 Sorry Day theme of “we cannot wait another generation” spoke to that impetus, Ms Dodson said. The day will be marked with events across every state and territory. On Sunday, Coota Girls Aboriginal Corporation held a gathering in Sydney for survivors, their families and supporters. Aunty Lorraine’s granddaughter Meagan Gerrard, who works as the corporation’s project and communications manager, said the event grew each year. Ms Gerrard, a Wailwan and Gamilaroi woman, said the impact of the policies that led to the stolen generations were still being felt today. “Without public commemorative events such as this, there’s less opportunity to educate and share the story,” she said. “It’s a really vital piece of healing and continued collective healing.” Source link #Day #healing #stolen #generations #survivors Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  19. Who was really running the country while Biden was president? Who was really running the country while Biden was president? Republicans want to investigate former President Joe Biden’s use of the autopen. Did he personally grant broad (and possibly unconstitutional) pardons for family members, members of the January 6 Committee and Anthony Fauci, or did someone else make the decision? Was he responsible for all the executive orders issued under his name, or did White House personnel make those decisions? If he did not personally sign various documents, are they valid? The House has announced that the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform will be investigating Biden’s use of an “autopen” to sign documents such as the pardons issued just before he left office. Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) said in a statement he plans to subpoena former Biden aides Annie Tomasini, Anthony Bernal and Ashley Williams, who he claims “ran interference” for Biden and may have overseen the use of the autopen. Meanwhile, Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) is demanding the upper chamber hold hearings on Biden’s health and competence, and rightly so. He wants to interview people who were close to the former president. As he told Axios, “We have to. I mean, who was running the government?” The Justice Department has taken up the issue as well, under the leadership of newly appointed “Pardon Attorney” Ed Martin, whose nomination to become Washington, D.C.’s, U.S. Attorney failed. Democrats may soon wish that they had not blocked his prior appointment. This is not just political posturing. The Washington Examiner reports: “According to public filings and internal memoranda obtained by congressional investigators, a significant number of clemency warrants were executed using batch-format autopen signatures, raising questions about whether Biden was directly involved in the process.” These inquiries have been spurred by new revelations about the president’s declining mental condition gleaned from the recently released “Original Sin,” written by CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’s Alex Thompson, which chronicles the extreme measures taken to hide Biden’s deterioration from the public. In addition, audio tapes of special counsel Robert Hur’s interview with Biden showed not just an “elderly man with a poor memory,” as Hur generously described Biden, but a person who has experienced serious mental decline. His confusion and lapses have raised even more questions about who was in charge of the country between 2021 and 2024. It’s become increasingly clear that it was not Biden. We know this because we have a solid example where the former president was asked about an important policy switch that he had purportedly authored — and he got it wrong, denying he had made the change. Also, it was reported contemporaneously that in negotiations on important topics, Biden was reduced to reading from note cards and seemed detached from the conversations. Someone else was almost certainly writing those note cards and giving the president his talking points. Biden was barely capable of putting two sentences together, much less sifting through details critical to crafting legislation or even policy. The Wall Street Journal reported last June about a February 2024 Oval Office meeting between House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Biden. According to Johnson, the president denied that he had recently instituted a pause on further expansion of liquified natural gas exports, claiming instead that it was just a study. Johnson told six people about Biden’s confusion after the meeting, suggesting it indicated a slippage of Biden’s memory. Speaking with Bari Weiss early this year, for her Substack podcast, Johnson described how the White House had tried to prevent the one-on-one encounter from taking place. Johnson told Weiss that Biden’s staff ignored his repeated attempts to schedule a meeting with the president in January 2024, but that pressure from the media eventually forced a scheduled sit-down. However, when Johnson entered the room he found Democratic leaders Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer and Kamala Harris all gathered, ready to drill Johnson over aid to Ukraine. That was unexpected. Biden asked the others to leave, visibly alarming his staffers. Once alone, Johnson asked the president why he had paused liquefied natural gas exports to Europe, pointing out that this action was enriching Russia and fueling Vladimir Putin’s war effort. Biden relied, “I didn’t do that.” When Johnson reminded the president of the executive order he had signed just weeks earlier, the president denied that the order mandated a pause. Johnson has since said he walked out of the meeting shaken, thinking, “‘We are in serious trouble — who is running the country?’ Like, I don’t know who put the paper in front of him, but he didn’t know.” The Johnson encounter was not the only firsthand report of Biden’s diminished capacity. In 2023, then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy came away from negotiations over lifting the debt ceiling with similar misgivings. He reported that the president’s command of details wavered and that he frequently mumbled and relied on notes to steer him through the conversations. “I used to meet with him when he was vice president. I’d go to his house,” McCarthy said in an interview. “He’s not the same person.” The White House and even the newly aware media is now pursuing the one remaining piece of the puzzle: Who was creating and then putting in place policies supposedly vetted by the president, and who else used the “autopen” found on so many documents? Was it Mike Donilon, who is cited by a recent piece in the Times of London? Or long-time adviser Anita Dunn? We just don’t know. This is not just a fishing expedition. The public must know if some of Biden’s rules and policies were executed without his knowledge or consent. There is a possibility that Congress could challenge the legality of measures adopted by presidential aides or officials, rather than the country’s chief executive. A report from the conservative Oversight Project, formerly associated with the Heritage Foundation, states, “The Constitution vests the power of pardon in one person and one person only — the President of the United States.” These challenges to the Biden legacy are just beginning. 25. Italy’s Newest Hypercar Will Have a Beastly 2,128 Horsepower Under the Hood Italy’s Newest Hypercar Will Have a Beastly 2,128 Horsepower Under the Hood Italy is still the land from which ostentatious supercars grow on trees, despite the U.S., Japan, and the U.K. laying some claim to otherwise. Case in point: the Giamaro Katla, Itay’s newest hypercar. True to its class, the Katla delivers a monstrous 2,128 horsepower from a quad-turbo 7.0-liter V-12 engine that powers two wheels. It also has a seven-speed manual transmission. It’s the kind of Italian hypercar a teenager might build, or an old automaker indulging in nostalgia, or a new automaker trying to make some noise. Giamaro Automobili meets the last criterion. More from Robb Report Founded in Modena, which is also where an automaker called Ferrari was founded, Giamaro describes itself as nothing less than perfect. “Each Giamaro vehicle is conceived as a unique creation that reflects a personal vision of perfection. More than machines, they are immersive experiences—created to forge a deep, instinctive connection between human and car, as a true extension of the senses,” the company, founded in 2021, says. This might sound a little fanciful because the Katla, which debuted this week, is not even in production. However, a reporter from Motor1 actually went to the Giamaro factory in Italy before the car’s debut and found a company seriously engaged in the product of making a hypercar to compete with Bugatti, Pagani, and all the rest. “We tried to give our car, our product, a specific identity, and create a deep connection between driver and machine, something that doesn’t exist yet,” Giacomo Commendatore told the publication, as a yellow Katla for the debut event was being prepared. That V-12 engine is obviously the star of the show, though the car also has hypercar bits underneath to increase its cred, like a carbon-fiber monocoque and bespoke suspension. The car weighs less than 3,200 pounds. Giamaro has not given numbers like top speed or zero to 60 times, but they will probably be impressive given the mill. Price and delivery date are also seemingly up in the air, though you can likely expect a seven-figure cost, and a delivery date that amounts to whenever the car is ready, but hopefully not never.
