  1. Elon Musk clashes with Norway wealth fund CEO; ‘friends are as friends do’ Elon Musk clashes with Norway wealth fund CEO; ‘friends are as friends do’ OSLO (Reuters) – Tesla CEO Elon Musk has clashed with Nicolai Tangen, CEO of Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, one of the automaker’s top investors, according to a record of the conversation released on Tuesday. Last June, the fund voted against Musk’s $56 billion pay package, the largest for a chief executive in corporate America, at Tesla’s annual general meeting, over concerns about its size and structure, among other things. Later, Tangen invited Musk to participate in a one-day conference in Oslo the fund is organising in April this year, preceded a day before with a home-cooked dinner at Tangen’s private residence. Musk turned the invitation down, writing in an iMessage to Tangen on Oct. 14: “When I ask you for a favor, which I very rarely do, and you decline, then you should not ask me for one until you’ve done something above nothing to make amends.” “Friends are as friends do.” Tangen replied the day after: “Noted and fully understand. As a large shareholder we cheer for you. Good luck with everything. Best Nicolai.” The exchange was first reported by business website e24.no. Norges Bank Investment Management (NBIM), the fund’s operator, is Tesla’s seventh-largest investor, according to LSEG data. The fund had a 0.95% stake worth $6 billion at the end of June, the latest available data from the fund. Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. NBIM said it had chosen to publish the exchange “in the light of the increased interest in the case”. “As one sees from the SMSes, some of the dialogue was linked to our voting record at Tesla, where we voted no to Elon Musk’s pay package, among other votes,” a fund spokesperson said in an emailed statement. Wife of man arrested by ICE says agents were waiting outside their church in Tucker Wife of man arrested by ICE says agents were waiting outside their church in Tucker Kenia Colindres thought she’d be safe going to church like she did with her family every Sunday. However, this past Sunday, her life changed when US Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers arrested her husband, Wilson Rogelio Velasquez Cruz, during service at Iglesia Fuente de Vida in Tucker. She told Channel 2′s Eryn Rogers in Spanish that she, Velasquez Cruz, and their three children were in church when her husband got a call. [DOWNLOAD: Free WSB-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] She says he didn’t answer it and that’s when his Immigration GPS ankle monitor started going off. She says he got scared because he always charges it and wasn’t sure why it would be going off. She said she told him to go outside to check it, so he wouldn’t interrupt the service. When he went outside, ICE agents were waiting and arrested him. Colindres said her family escaped violence in Honduras. She said they came to America two years ago after seeking asylum at the US border. She said that’s when her husband was given an Immigration GPS ankle monitor. ICE officials said if someone has a monitor it’s for a specific reason. However, they wouldn’t say what that reason could or would be. Officials said it’s on a case-by-case basis as to what level of monitoring people have to adhere to. Colindres said Velasquez Cruz had never been in trouble and was a man of God who didn’t stray. She said he had a work permit that was good for five years, and he was employed at a tire shop. Now, she’s worried because she said he paid all the bills while she stayed home with the kids. RELATED STORIES Peter Tadeo with Tadeo and Silva Law said the government has a new expedited removal policy. It targets people who’ve immigrated to the country recently, seeking asylum. People who’ve been here less than two years are most at risk. “That’s scary for a lot of people that entered that way because most of those people haven’t been here for two years,” Tadeo said. Colindres said she doesn’t know if she and her kids will be deported, too. She was able to speak with her husband on Monday. He told her he won’t be able to appeal his case to a judge and that he’s being transferred to Stewart Detention Center before being deported. ICE said they’re not releasing how many arrests they’ve made in the Atlanta area yet. However, they said they are looking to release those numbers daily in the future. 10. Trump signs sweeping order to further restrict trans care for minors nationwide Trump signs sweeping order to further restrict trans care for minors nationwide President Donald Trump signed a broad executive order targeting transition-related medical care for minors Tuesday. The order, titled “Protecting Children From Chemical and Surgical Mutilation,” intends to restrict access to gender-affirming medical care — including puberty blockers, hormone therapy and surgery — for minors, which it defines as those younger than 19. It prohibits federal funding from covering such care for minors, restricts research and education grants to medical schools and hospitals, and directs the secretary of Health and Human Services to issue regulations to end such care for minors. The order also directs all federal agencies to rescind guidance from the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, or WPATH, a nonprofit association dedicated to transgender medical care that issues guidance that is widely used by health care professionals. “Across the country today, medical professionals are maiming and sterilizing a growing number of impressionable children under the radical and false claim that adults can change a child’s sex through a series of irreversible medical interventions,” the executive order states, using inflammatory language to describe transition-related medical care. The order states that more children will come to regret receiving such care and that they are “often trapped with lifelong medical complications” and sterilization. “Accordingly, it is the policy of the United States that it will not fund, sponsor, promote, assist, or support the so-called ‘transition’ of a child from one sex to another, and it will rigorously enforce all laws that prohibit or limit these destructive and life-altering procedures,” the order states. Lambda Legal, an LGBTQ legal advocacy group, promised to fight the executive order in a statement Tuesday. “This broadside condemns transgender youth to extreme and unnecessary pain and suffering, and their parents to agonized futility in caring for their child — all while denying them access to the same medically recommended health care that is readily available to their cisgender peers,” said Lambda Legal attorney Omar Gonzalez-Pagan, alluding to the fact that the order does not appear to bar puberty blockers, hormone therapy or similar surgeries for minors who are not transgender. Transition-related care for minors has dominated headlines in recent years, with 26 states passing laws restricting such care. However, recent research has shown that a small number of minors actually access this type of care. A study published in JAMA Pediatrics in January found that less than 0.1% of adolescents with private insurance in the U.S. are transgender or gender-diverse and are prescribed puberty blockers or gender-affirming hormones. Trans minors are treated on a case-by-case basis and are legally required to receive their parents’ or guardian’s consent to receive any medical intervention. Before a child starts puberty, medical standards developed by WPATH and other medical organizations recommend that a child receive therapy and social transition, or changing their hairstyle, clothing, name and pronouns. Once a child begins puberty, they may start puberty blockers if they have persistent gender dysphoria, which is the medical term for the severe emotional distress caused by the misalignment between one’s gender identity and birth sex. Teenagers might start cross-sex hormones, and, in rare cases, some older teens may receive a double mastectomy, where both breasts are removed. Most major medical associations, such as the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Psychological Association, support access to transition care for minors and oppose restrictions on it. One section of Trump’s executive order, “Ending Reliance on Junk Science,” specifically takes aim at WPATH, arguing that it “lacks scientific integrity,” and directs the secretary of HHS to “publish a review of the existing literature on best practices for promoting the health of children who assert gender dysphoria, rapid-onset gender dysphoria, or other identity-based confusion.” “The Secretary of HHS, as appropriate and consistent with applicable law, shall use all available methods to increase the quality of data to guide practices for improving the health of minors with gender dysphoria, rapid-onset gender dysphoria, or other identity-based confusion, or who otherwise seek chemical or surgical mutilation,” the order states. WPATH did not immediately return a request for comment. Half a dozen studies in recent years have found that transition-related care improves minors’ mental health and reduces suicide rates. However, in December, the United Kingdom indefinitely banned new prescriptions of puberty blockers to treat minors for gender dysphoria. The ban followed an independent study commissioned by England’s National Health Service that found that medical evidence for transition-related care for minors was “remarkably weak.” The study has faced criticism from some researchers and activists. Casualties feared after festival stampede in India Casualties feared after festival stampede in India Tens of thousands of people at a massive religious gathering in India have rushed to take a holy bath in the country’s northern Prayagraj city, setting off a stampede that injured dozens, local media reports. It was not immediately clear what triggered the panic early on Wednesday at the Maha Kumbh festival where devotees had congregated from across India to bathe at the confluence of the Ganges, the Yamuna and the mythical Saraswati rivers. News agency Press Trust of India cited authorities who said injured were sent to a hospital. The Maha Kumbh festival, held every 12 years, started on January13 and has been touted by Indian authorities as the world’s largest religious gathering. Authorities expect more than 400 million people to throng the pilgrimage site in total over the next six weeks. Stampedes are relatively common around Indian religious festivals, where large crowds gather in small areas with shoddy infrastructure and few safety measures. 17. Foreign investors are exiting India’s stock market but opportunities remain Foreign investors are exiting India’s stock market but opportunities remain A pedestrian wearing a protective mask walking past the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) building in Mumbai, India. The Nifty 50 and Sensex recently slid to their lowest in more than six months Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty Images Indian equities have been sliding since September, as foreign investors spooked by a slowdown in the country’s economy exit their holdings. Analysts see this as a “healthy correction.” India’s benchmark stock indexes the Nifty 50 and Sensex are hovering at more than seven-month lows, firmly in correction territory since their September high. Sectors such as real estate, energy and autos have been the biggest decliners, data from Goldman Sachs showed. This development comes as a stark reversal from last year, when the Nifty 50 consistently notched record highs, and outperformed the S&P 500 for the greater part of the year. “The bubble was long building, but acknowledgement is recent,” said Venugopal Garre, head of India research at AB Bernstein. He attributed the gloomy outlook to a mix of sluggish earnings and weak economic growth in India’s second fiscal quarter. Stock Chart IconStock chart icon Performance of the Nifty 50 in the past year India’s gross domestic product expanded by 5.4% in the quarter ended September, marking the slowest growth rate in the past seven quarters. The government recently lowered its economic growth estimates for the fiscal year ending March to 6.4% — the lowest in four years. “After a stellar run, India’s economy has entered a softer patch that will continue for a few more quarters,” data and analytics firm Capital Economics said in a recent note. “We think that will portend an underperformance in local equities relative to other major benchmarks,” wrote Harry Chambers, assistant economist at Capital Economics. HSBC earlier this month downgraded its rating on Indian equities to “neutral” from “overweight.” The bank also cut its Nifty 50 earnings growth forecast for fiscal year 2025 to 5% from 15%. Foreign investor exodus Foreigners have been net average sellers of Indian equities over the last four months, according to data from India’s National Securities Depository, as the country’s growth falters. Foreign portfolio investor flows into Indian equities plunged by 99% to just $124 million in 2024 compared with the year before, the data showed. The outflows have increased sharply in the past few weeks, with foreign investors withdrawing about $8.3 billion from Indian equities as of Jan. 28. Foreigners remain net sellers of Indian equities, said James Thom, senior investment director at Abrdn. There has been a rotation out of India and emerging markets stocks into U.S. equities, Thom added. “Foreigners have been largely absent from the India story in the past year,” he told CNBC. “It’s a sort of risk-adjusted view that [investors] can get a better, safer return in U.S. equities,” Thom said. “So why take the risk, so-called perceived risk with India?” India’s economic slowdown also comes at a time when U.S. Treasury yields have been gaining momentum, leading to unprecedented outflows of FPIs, said Rana Gupta, managing director at Manulife Investment Management. Higher Treasury yields tend to take investments away from the stock market as bonds become more attractive. Indian equity markets are going through a cyclical consolidation after four strong years of returns post Covid. Pramod Gubbi co-founder of Marcellus Investment Managers Profit booking by foreign institutional investors has also pressured India’s equity markets. “When a market does so well for such a long ******* of time, there is a lot of profit in the portfolio,” Nilesh Shah, managing director of Kotak Mahindra Asset Management, told CNBC. “This profit booking by the FPIs is resulting in higher supply at lower prices resulting in bidders dropping their bids, leading to correction,” he added. Profit booking involves selling a portion of an investment to secure gains after the asset has risen, rather than holding it indefinitely. Traders sometimes engage in profit booking when the stock or asset is believed to be overvalued or have hit a peak. Some of the foreign portfolio investors who have made large profits in Indian equities are tempted to book more profits looking at higher valuations, Shah added. ‘Onslaught’ of domestic investors In contrast with the exodus of foreign money, India’s local investors have continued to pile into the Indian market, partially stemming what could have been a deeper decline in equities. Domestic investors have funneled in around $27 billion in Indian equities since October, data provided by Manulife showed. The quadrupling of domestic equity investors in India between 2020 and 2024 has led to a mini-bubble, which has been deflating since September, said Praveen Jagwani, CEO of asset management company UTI International. “The onslaught of tens of millions of retail investors into stocks with questionable fundamentals has driven up valuations in India,” added Jagwani. “For sustainable equity growth, a healthy pullback is needed.” While the near-term outlook for Indian equities may look bleak, some analysts believe longer-term fundamentals remain solid, and that a rebound is in the works. Just a healthy correction? “Indian equity markets are going through a cyclical consolidation after four strong years of returns post Covid,” said Pramod Gubbi, co-founder of Marcellus Investment Managers. “I would see this as a healthy correction.” Gubbi added that if valuations become more reasonable as a result of the sell-off, it could attract a new set of investors, who have stayed on the sidelines because of valuation concerns. “In 2023 and 2024, the Indian equity markets galloped ahead a bit too quickly and the current correction is a healthy mean reversion,” echoed UTI International’s Jagwani. The Nifty 50 saw an annual return of almost 9% in 2024, and around 19% in 2023. Abrdn’s Thom said that while there’s a bit of pullback in the near term, he sees “great opportunity” for investors in India in the longer run, especially in the domestic IT and private banking sectors. While speculators may focus on quarterly fluctuations in the economy, Kotak’s Shah said long-term investors need not be worried: “[It’s] Speculator’s nightmare, investor’s delight.” Source link #Foreign #investors #exiting #Indias #stock #market #opportunities #remain Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Reserve Bank interest rates: Core inflation closes in on central bank’s target and now at three-year low Reserve Bank interest rates: Core inflation closes in on central bank’s target and now at three-year low Hopes for a Reserve Bank interest rate cut within months have received a boost after core inflation dropped to its slowest pace in three years. The core measure — preferred by the RBA because it strips out volatility including power rebates — ran at 3.2 per cent for the year to December, according to the latest data from the *********** Bureau of Statistics released on Wednesday. That’s down from 3.5 per cent in the year to September. Wednesday’s numbers will be the last key data point released before the Reserve Bank meets next month. They might also be the last full inflation read out before the Federal election, depending on when Prime Minister Anthony Albanese pulls the trigger. Economists had tipped the core measure would run at 3.3 per cent through 2024. Plenty of commentators had argued a result lower than that would be enough for the RBA to finally start reducing interest rates. But others have warned the booming jobs market risked sending prices higher again and would be a handbrake for the RBA. Betashares chief economist David Bassanese said the latest figures would be “make or break” for the central bank’s next meeting on February 12 and 13.. Markets overnight had priced in an 84 per cent chance of a rate cut at that meeting. 20. Scientists Just Discovered A Brand-New Superconductor That Could Change the Game Scientists Just Discovered A Brand-New Superconductor That Could Change the Game “Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links.” One of the things that makes graphene so special is that it can turn into a superconductor when super-thin sheets of it are stacked on top of each other in a twisted moiré pattern. For some time, scientists thought it was unique in that way. But now, tungsten diselenide has been proven to do the same as graphene—and is even more effective. Activating superconduction requires extreme cold and pressure, but future research into the properties that make it possible may lead to a room-temperature superconductor someday In the world of high-fashion, there’s a specific texture of fabric called moiré. Typically made from silk, this textile has a warped visual effect that is achieved by applying heat and pressure rollers until it looks almost like ripples on a pond. In physics and math, rippling moiré patterns can appear as a result of everything from simple geometric crosshatching to interference. And that same effect has now created a new form of superconductor. Superconductors are so special because they can conduct electricity without resistance. This property can be gained by certain materials through exposure to extreme cold or pressure, and while only a few materials are capable of going superconductive in the first place, one more has now been added to that short and valuable list. A team of researchers led by physicist Cory Dean of Columbia University have found that ultrathin sheets of tungsten diselenide—layered in a twisted moiré arrangement—take on superconducting powers when cooled to temperatures hovering just above absolute zero. Dean had previously attempted a similar moiré experiment with sheets of graphene (a substance made of pure carbon that is extracted from graphite), which showed signs of superconductivity in a moiré pattern. However, after the graphene structure was cooled below a certain temperature, the electrically conductive areas of the structure went inactive, and any potential superconductivity disappeared. That was in 2018, and in the years since, Dean and his team have repeatedly tried to figure out how to get graphene to the ideal temperature for superconductivity while keeping its electrically conductive areas alive. Other materials arranged the same way also showed some promising properties—including strange versions of magnetism and electrical insulation—but fell short of turning superconductive. Then, the team decided to try tungsten diselenide. Tungsten and selenium are both transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs)—a new group of two-dimensional materials that can become superconductors. Unlike graphene, they have a direct band gap, meaning that their valance bands (the outermost electron shells of atoms) are directly aligned with the conduction band (the electron shell adjacent to the valence band). The direct band gap in tungsten diselenide allows for electrons to easily transition from the valence band to the conduction band. Once in the conduction band, electrons are available for conduction (or superconduction) right away. “Although a wide range of [superconductor] correlated phenomena have indeed been observed in the moiré TMDs, robust demonstration of superconductivity has remained absent,” the researchers said in a study recently published in the journal Nature. As graphene is no longer the only material that turns into a superconductor when arranged in a moiré structure, Dean and his team want to probe further into whether or not other TMDs gain superconductive properties from this arrangement that did not show up in any other form. TMDs have many uses (from transistors to optoelectronics to energy storage) and even have potential for future use in biomedical imaging. The only downside has been the temperature—keeping materials near absolute zero is expensive and incredible energy-intensive. If a room-temperature superconductor is discovered, it would mean being able to transmit unlimited amounts of energy over incredible distances, but no experiments trying to produce one have yet succeeded. While the exact properties that make tungsten diselenide a superconductor are still unknown, finding out what they are could give scientists an idea of how to maintain the state at higher temperatures—maybe even room temperature. 21. I’m still the person I was after diagnosis at 49 I’m still the person I was after diagnosis at 49 Niall McCracken BBC News NI Mid Ulster Reporter BBC Peter Alexander was diagnosed with dementia at the age of 49 Dementia was not something Peter Alexander expected to be diagnosed with in his late 40s. It meant leaving his job and adapting to a new way of life. Now, aged 56, Peter is passionate about addressing the stigma around the condition often associated with elderly people. “I might not always be able to express it in the same way, but I’m still the same person I was, inside I’m still Peter,” he told BBC News NI. Peter was 49 when he made an appointment with a neurologist and was sent for a scan. “I was starting to struggle to meet deadlines (at work), which had never been a problem before, and during meetings, I wouldn’t be able to think of a word when speaking,” said Peter, who is originally from England but has lived in Northern Ireland with his wife, Jill, for several years. “I remember the date very clearly, it was 14 January 2018 when the results came back and the doctor said: ‘Peter, I have diagnosed you with having Frontotemporal dementia’. “I was basically told that it was no longer safe for me to work because I have diminished judgment and I was losing my filter, so it was a lot to adapt to.” ‘It can manifest in different ways’ Peter lives in Northern Ireland with his wife Jill Frontotemporal dementia is an uncommon type of dementia that causes problems with behaviour and language. “People think when you have dementia it’s only about forgetting things but it’s more complex, it can manifest in different ways. “I don’t want to be treated differently, it’s imperative that people actually see the person, see beyond the condition. “Sadly for many people, the diagnosis can take an awful long time and that puts an enormous amount of pressure on the family unit.” What is dementia? Dementia is a syndrome (a group of related symptoms) associated with an ongoing decline of brain functioning. Memory loss is one of the most common symptoms, particularly the struggle to remember recent events. Others can include changes to behaviour, mood and personality, becoming lost in familiar places, or being unable to find the right word in a conversation. It can reach the point where people don’t know when they need to eat or drink. More than 22,000 people are living with dementia in Northern Ireland, according to the Alzheimer’s Society. The number of people living with dementia in Northern Ireland is expected to almost triple by 2051 to 60,000. The Southern Trust is expected to have the highest number of people living with the condition by 2032. While dementia is often seen as a disease of old age, about 5% of people with dementia are classed as having young-onset dementia. People whose symptoms started when they were under the age of 65 are often known as having young-onset dementia. The Alzheimer’s Society estimates that there are more than 70,000 people in the *** living with young-onset dementia. A documentary has been made by members of Dementia NI In recent months, Peter has teamed up with other people in Northern Ireland living with dementia to make a film about their experience of everyday life. The documentary called Hear Our Voice primarily focuses on people with young-onset dementia. It offers a glimpse of what living with dementia is like, in the hope that it will create better understanding and empathy. Peter features throughout the film and narrates it. “Respect was granted to people who have dementia to make and take control of the film to help us get across the unique challenges we have,” he said. Dr Christopher Southwell is a consultant in Old Age Psychiatry in the Southern Trust who specialises in dementia The film features members of Dementia NI. The group was set up in 2015 by five people living with dementia, but 10 years on they now have 15 groups across Northern Ireland. The groups worked alongside the Southern and South Eastern health trusts when making the Hear Our Voice project. Dr Christopher Southwell, a consultant in Old Age Psychiatry in the Southern Trust, believes the film promotes a powerful message. “Dementia is a condition that has a big impact on patients and their families and sometimes as healthcare professionals we acknowledge that there are things that can be done better,” he said. “When I got involved and eventually watched the film, it was important for me to be able to say to people like Peter and others behind the film that I do hear your voice and take on board what you’re saying.” Members of Dementia NI recently met Health Minister, Mike Nesbitt, at Stormont Members of Dementia NI recently met Health Minister Mike Nesbitt at Stormont. They called on him to make reducing the time it takes to get a dementia diagnosis a priority. Shortly after the film was released, in a statement, the health minister said: “I congratulate the trusts and Dementia NI for developing this powerful documentary which I have no doubt will challenge existing stereotypes and will be an informative way to educate people in how best to support individuals living with dementia.” ‘Dementia doesn’t define us’ Karen Kerr is head of engagement at Dementia NI. She said: “The members are really passionate about the importance of getting an early diagnosis and once you get an early diagnosis it opens up a lot of opportunities so that you can continue to live well with a sense of purpose and that’s also what the film is trying to highlight. “When you hear from people like Peter, I think it demonstrates that people with dementia have a voice not just for themselves but for everyone affected with dementia.” Peter added: “When it comes to people like me with dementia, please don’t write us off, we have a voice, dementia doesn’t define us.” Source link #person #diagnosis Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  22. Tune into your ‘emotional frequency’ – and use the power of your mind to find love that lasts Tune into your ‘emotional frequency’ – and use the power of your mind to find love that lasts It is possible to tap into the power of your mind to manifest the things you really want. What makes Power Manifesting different is that it’s not just about wishful thinking — it’s about using practical, down-to-earth psychological techniques to achieve the goals that will improve your life. There is a beautiful concept in Greek mythology that says when you’re looking for love you’re actually searching for the other half of you. That’s how I think of my relationship with Kate, my wife and my soulmate – she completes me. And, actually, I manifested her bringing love into my life. It’s been reported that I used an Excel spreadsheet to find Kate. That is not true as I don’t even know how to use Excel! But I did use my brain to draw up an imaginary spreadsheet of my dream partner and at the top was Kate, who had been a part of my team for decades. That’s when I realised that the woman I’d been looking for all my life was already in it. At first I was gutted at the thought of two and a half decades of missed time together. I spoke to an astrologer friend of mine just after we began dating and I confided that I felt devastated that we’d lost the potential of sharing so many years, but he said: “Paul, it would never have worked out before — it was all about timing. You both had to come to this point in your lives to be where you are now for love to happen.” Today I want to share with you how to manifest love into your life. But first, you need to be able to open your heart to it. This would, of course, be a great deal easier if none of us had a past. Many of us have scars from being heartbroken, disappointed, or having suffered a betrayal or perhaps the loss of a loved one. It’s important though to remember this: love has never hurt you. It’s when people are unloving towards us that we get hurt. This is a very important distinction to get to grips with, as you can’t manifest something you are afraid of. If you say you want love, but it scares you, then you are less likely to get it. Camera Icon“To find true love, first you need to learn to love yourself”. Credit: autumnsgoddess0/Pixabay (user autumnsgoddess0)LEARN TO LOVE YOURSELF PEOPLE I often use the phrase: “To find true love, first you need to learn to love yourself”. There is great truth in this saying — loving yourself really does open the door to love. But how do you actually go about doing that? One quick and effective way to do this is to listen to your inner voice. To do this, find somewhere quiet to sit and place your hand on your heart. Then take a deep breath and ask yourself how you can love or admire yourself more today. See if you can find something practical that is a tangible way of doing that. It could be slowing the pace of your day down, making sure you eat foods that love you, rather than foods that aren’t good for you. Your inner voice might suggest you try not to rush through each day worrying only about others, without making time for your own wants and needs. Try to make this a daily practice. Whatever answer your inner voice of wisdom offers, listen and act on it where you can. Camera IconIf you want to love somebody you have got to embrace a loving mindset with everybody. Credit: Pexels/Pixabay (user Pexels)BE MORE LOVING TOWARDS OTHERS Dr Robert Holden, author of Loveability, describes love as the real work of our lives. He insists that connecting with love enriches everything else. I agree with him, along with one of his principal teachings, which is that, if you want to love somebody you have got to embrace a loving mindset with everybody. That’s because love doesn’t pick and choose. You can’t decide you’re going to be super-loving to one person and more emotionally distant with everyone else. Dr Holden recommends that you kick-start a more loving mindset by making a conscious effort to connect with people and embrace small acts of service. For example, notice if somebody could benefit from your smile today, or hold a door open for a stranger. The more loving acts you can do, the better. This affirms to yourself, at an unconscious level, that you are a loving person who is deserving of love. Dr Holden also says: “Looking for love makes you neurotic; being a loving person makes you sane again.” So it’s not so much about finding or searching for love, it’s more about being open to it and recognising it. The “finding” should simply be an intention, which is to experience more love because if you are willing to give it, like attracts like. Camera IconIt’s not so much about finding or searching for love, it’s more about being open to it and recognising it. Credit: NoName_13/PixabayRAISE YOUR EMOTIONAL FREQUENCY We constantly emit a frequency based on our emotions. Our state of mind and body is key to this. For example, if you are angry or frightened, then you are transmitting on a low frequency. But if you are in a state of love, happiness, joy and creativity — all the good stuff — you are transmitting on a high frequency. The law of Sympathetic Resonance in music shows that if you have two pianos in the same room and you hit a C note on one of them, you will find that the C string on the other piano will start vibrating at the same rate. For people this equates to those on the same frequency gravitating towards each other. So if you’ve ever wondered how it is that all the happy people seem to find each other, now you know. It’s all down to sympathetic resonance and frequency. The frequency of someone who is angry or sad is different to the frequency of someone who is happy and optimistic so they are less likely to be drawn to each other. Try this simple exercise to raise your frequency. 1. Close your eyes and imagine a cinema screen in front of you. 2. Now imagine you are looking at a version of you that has a higher frequency; a you that is in a state of joy, peace, gratitude, kindness and optimism. Notice the expression on your face, your posture, the way you radiate happiness. 3. Now, imagine floating into the screen and step into your higher-frequency self. See the world and life through your happier self. Hear your internal dialogue — kind, optimistic and reassuring — saying to yourself “all is well”’ and feel how good this state of higher frequency feels. 4. Next, notice where in your body you feel the best feelings and give the feelings a colour. 5. Now imagine moving that colour up through your neck, into your head, down through your shoulders, arms and fingers. Move the colour down through your chest to your legs and then to the tips of your toes. 6. Now double the brightness and intensity of the colour and then double it again. 7. Now, imagine being surrounded by this colour and living in this higher frequency for the rest of the day. 8. Imagine being surrounded by this colour every day and living in this higher frequency in every part of your life going forward. Camera IconThere are 10 things that you should consider in a health relationship. Credit: Duncan_Dao/PixabayTEN THINGS TO MAKE OR BREAK A RELATIONSHIP The reason I was single for years is because I’d had my heart broken and so I was a commitment-phobe. I would tell myself, “I’m happily single”, even though a part of me did want to be happy in a relationship. I was just scared of the pain I associated with being in love. For others, seeing how their parents interacted with each other when they were growing up serves as a training video. They tend to copy the same relationship dynamics they witnessed as children and unconsciously repeat the same kind of patterns and mistakes over and over again. With any relationship you enter into, these are the 10 things that you should consider in order to make it healthy and functional: 1. Communication: The first question you should ask of any relationship is: What is this person’s motivation? Are they seeking pleasure or are they seeking happiness? Happiness should come first. 2. Invest time, effort and action: A healthy relationship is active and dynamic. It’s not just a happy ending. 3. Self-care: You can only love someone functionally if you learn to love yourself. One of the big errors people make is to think of their partner but not themselves. 4. Have a loving mindset: Love can be understood in many different ways, but it includes giving your time and emotions. Even small acts of service, like making a cup of tea, help to build a relationship. 5. Disagree healthily: Some conflict over time is inevitable. It’s how you work together so both of you feel heard that counts. Rather than go straight to battle stations or passive-aggressive silent treatment, sometimes it’s OK to agree to disagree. 6. Learn: We can constantly learn from each other, our environment and ourselves. Be open to this. Remember to also ask your partner: “What do you want or need in order for our relationship to flourish?” 7. Have a vision of the future: The energy of a relationship flows best when it moves towards a destination that inspires us. This helps in hard times as well as good ones. 8. Avoid personal criticism of your partner, including during conflict resolution: Instead of saying damaging things such as “you are so negative” ask about their specific worries so that you can resolve differences without judgment. 9. Pay attention to your partner: Your attention is one of the most powerful gifts you have. It demonstrates your respect, helps you to understand them better and enables you to share deeper moments of intimacy. 10. Reinforcing the positives: If you are in a relationship, return in your mind to some of the happiest times as if you are there again. This helps you fall even more in love.
