  1. Unofficial Bloodborne 60 FPS patch slapped with DMCA takedown Unofficial Bloodborne 60 FPS patch slapped with DMCA takedown An unofficial patch for FromSoftware’s Bloodborne has been slapped with a DMCA takedown after years of its existence. The patch was released in early 2021. Lance McDonald took to Twitter (via IGN) to explain what happened to this unofficial 60 FPS patch. Apparently, Sony reached out, demanding he scrub the links he’s posted on the internet related to said patch. On February 21st, 2021, I created and released a patch for Bloodborne which makes the game run at 60fps. Today I received a DMCA takedown notification on behalf of Sony Interactive Entertainment asking that I remove links to the patch I posted on the internet, so I’ve now done so — Lance McDonald (@manfightdragon) January 31, 2025 Of course, this has caused a whirlwind of questions as to why it’s now that Sony is stepping in, after all, the offending content has been around since 2021 and there’s no way Sony has just heard of it. Frankly, we’re right there with the majority of pipedreamers who believe this DMCA takedown is because Sony is working on remastering or remaking the grim beloved PS4-era Soulsborne title. Even FromSoft boss Hidetaka Miyazaki has stood by gamers wanting a modern release of this beloved title. Sony is the one that owns the rights, so it has to be it to push something forward, but as it stands, it feels like the Japanese giant is just kind of letting fans hang in limbo. 2. Protesters rally against ******* party leader who pushed migration proposal backed by far-right Protesters rally against ******* party leader who pushed migration proposal backed by far-right BERLIN (AP) — Tens of thousands took to the streets across Germany on the weekend to protest against the center-right leader and front-runner in a Feb. 25 election for sending to parliament proposals for tough new migration rules that received the backing of a far-right party. Angry protesters in Hamburg, Munich, Cologne and Leipzig said that Friedrich Merz and his Christian Democrats broke Germany’s unwritten post-Nazi promise by all democratic parties to never pass any rule or resolution in parliament with the support of far-right, nationalist parties such as the Alternative for Germany, or AfD. Merz on Wednesday proposed a nonbinding motion in parliament calling for Germany to turn back many more migrants at its borders. The measure squeaked through thanks to AfD’s support. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. Merz was determined to show commitment of his center-right Union bloc, which also includes the Bavaria-only CSU party, to cutting irregular migration after a deadly knife attack last month by a rejected asylum-seeker. However, on Friday, the ******* parliament narrowly rejected a bill calling for tougher rules on migration that risked becoming the first draft legislation to pass thanks to a far-right party. Nonetheless, it has become a focus of a controversy about the attitude toward the far right of the front-runner in the upcoming election. Merz has been accused by protesters and politicians on the left of breaking a taboo and endangering mainstream parties’ “firewall” against AfD. He insists his position is unchanged and that he didn’t and won’t work with the party. Hundreds of protesters temporarily blocked offices of the Christian Democrats in different cities, and on Sunday afternoon up to 20,000 came together for a big rally in Berlin. In Cologne, people protested on 350 boats on the Rhine, ******* news agency dpa reported. The boats lined up in front of the city’s skyline with its famous cathedral with protesters holding up banners with slogans such as “No racism” and “For democracy and diversity.” Polls show the center-right Union, which put forward the migration proposal and bill, leading with around 30% support, while AfD is second with about 20%, and the Social Democrats and Greens further down. Merz appears to hope that he will gain support by making the Union look decisive in forcing a tougher approach to migration, while blunting the appeal of the anti-immigration AfD and making the governing parties — which say they already have done much to tackle the issue — look out of touch with Germans’ concerns. The 12-year-old AfD first entered the national parliament in 2017, benefiting from then-Chancellor Angela Merkel’s decision two years earlier to allow large numbers of migrants into the country. A year ago, hundreds of thousands also protested in weeks-long rallies all over Germany against the rise of the far-right and purported plans to deport millions of immigrants, including some holding ******* passports. 4. Beeston banana mystery deepens as more are spotted in street Beeston banana mystery deepens as more are spotted in street Harry Stevens BBC News, Nottingham BBC More bananas were found on the corner of Abbey Road and Wensor Avenue in Beeston An a-peel-ing mystery deepens after another plate of peeled bananas was left in a leafy Nottinghamshire street and disappeared after just one night. While inquiries by residents into who left them behind have so far proved fruitless, the bananas piled high on a plate have been left for over a year – and another plate was discovered on Saturday night. According to residents, the fruity deposit arrives overnight between the first and second day of each month, when about 16-20 peeled bananas are left out on the corner of Abbey Road and Wensor Avenue in Beeston. Luke Roberts and Jai Brewer, who travelled three hours from Slough to see the landmark on Sunday morning, were left disappointed when they found the plate had gone missing. Luke Roberts and Jai Brewer (left to right) said they loved the “silly adventure” “We came up at seven o’clock last night and there was nobody here. We’ve gone nuts about it,” said Mr Roberts. “I love it, it’s a silly adventure and it’s harmless.” Mr Brewer added: “Explaining [the trip] to our families has been funny but they’re very accommodating. “We’ve come back this morning and they’re gone.” The disappointment was echoed by 36-year-old resident Alistar Exworthy, who said: “We delayed going to the shops until today because this route takes us past the bananas. It’s sad.” The plate was nowhere to be found in the morning A group of students came to have a look after seeing the bananas featured online, with Josh Woods adding: “It’s cool to live near them”. Marie Smith, an 80-year-old resident, has lived in the area for 48 years but said she had never known anything like it. “We saw them last year and had to come back. It makes me laugh. “My granddaughter who was in Lanzarote picked it up asked me what was happening with the bananas.” But the occurrence left a bad taste in some neighbours’ mouth last month, when concerns were raised over the bananas going mouldy. A resident has previously tried to take the matter in her own hands and put a sign in the usual spot to deter the yellow fruit being left there again. The attempt however proved unsuccessful, with the bananas making yet another mysterious appearance. 5. Intel heralds XeSS passing the 150 games milestone, but only two titles support XeSS 2.0 Intel heralds XeSS passing the 150 games milestone, but only two titles support XeSS 2.0 Intel has posted a celebratory video to its Twitter page highlighting that its XeSS upscaling is now supported in over 150 games. Previously in June, this number (not counting demos and benchmarking software) was just 105, so the number of supported games increased by 50% over six months or so — marking an impressive rate of growth for the XeSS upscaler that was originally launched in 2022. As upscaling becomes the de facto way to play games at higher resolutions and framerates (particularly on low-end and mid-range systems, though now somewhat infamously being emphasized even on top-end hardware like the RTX 50 Series), it’s good to see that Intel is staying competitive with its implementation and that major releases are including it right alongside AMD’s FSR and Nvidia’s DLSS. We’ve hit the mark on 150+ games with #XeSS support, with more on the way!Experience peak gaming for yourself with Intel XeSS AI upscaling today. pic.twitter.com/n1lWDpo0UYJanuary 30, 2025 So, what games support Intel XeSS? The majority of games that added support in the past half-year were new releases, so that’s a good place to start. Titles like the stylish-action-influenced Final Fantasy XVI, Soulsborne-influenced ****** Myth: Wukong, and PlayStation ports Spider-Man 2 and God of War: Ragnarok have all launched with Intel XeSS 1.0 support. Several older games, but especially multiplayer titles, either also launched with Intel XeSS 1.0 support or were retrofitted with XeSS support after the fact. This includes multiplayer staples like Fortnite, Call of Duty Modern Warfare II (and III), Tekken 8, and The Finals. Single-player games with retrofitted XeSS support include Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, and even Death Stranding: Director’s Cut. Unfortunately, current support for Intel XeSS 2.0 is quite lacking, which is a shame since XeSS 2.0 supports AI-powered Frame Generation without needing to use non-accelerated AMD FSR 3 Frame Generation in tandem, unlike 1.0. Only Marvel Rivals and F1 2024 currently support XeSS 2.0, but upcoming titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Civilization VII will launch with the feature intact — at least, with the visually-improved XeSS 2.0 Super Resolution if not the whole suite with Frame Gen. Fortunately for Intel users in need of upscaling and playing games without native support for Intel XeSS, AMD was kind enough to make most versions of its FSR upscaler easily cross-compatible with various GPU architectures. Notably at the time of DLSS and RTX 20 Series’ launch, this even provided easy resolution scaling performance gains for past-gen Nvidia users, which earned AMD lots of favor at the time. But of course, the best experience for Intel GPU users will be native support for Intel XeSS — particularly since even XeSS 1.0 looked markedly better than FSR 1.0 and some would argue even FSR 2.0. XeSS 1.0 or Super Resolution-only users hurting for Frame Generation may also want to consider the GPU-agnostic Lossless Scaling software for Frame Gen insertion. Abhishek ton powers India to huge win over England Abhishek ton powers India to huge win over England Abhishek Sharma’s magnificent record-breaking century has powered India to a 150-run win over England in the fifth and final T20 international at Wankhede Stadium, sealing a dominant 4-1 series triumph. Chasing a mammoth target of 248 on Sunday, England opener Phil Salt (55 off 23) started well but had little support as wickets tumbled around him. Indian spinners took early wickets, leaving the visitors stumbling at 4-68. England then collapsed spectacularly to 97 all out in 10.3 overs with Mohammed Shami claiming three wickets and Varun Chakaravarthy, Shivam Dube, and Abhishek taking two apiece. Put in to bat, Abhishek’s onslaught propelled India to their highest powerplay score of 95, studded with 16 boundaries. Abhishek blasted his way to a quickfire 135 off 54 ****** — the highest score ever from an Indian batter in a T20 international – but his teammates underperformed. Brydon Carse managed to stem the run flow, claiming the wickets of Tilak Varma and out-of-form captain Suryakumar Yadav in his successive overs, while Dube was sent back to the pavilion in the third over of his spell. Tilak and Dube’s cameos provided vital support to Abhishek but Suryakumar’s poor run of form continued as he was caught out for two, ending his series with just 28 runs. Apart from Carse, Mark Wood, who replaced Saqib Mahmood, bowled a fiery spell and chipped in with two wickets of Sanju Samson and Hardik Pandya. India will next play three one-dayers against England from February 6. Source link #Abhishek #ton #powers #India #huge #win #England Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

The origins of Groundhog Day date back to ******* settlers in the 1800s and the celebration of the Christian festival of Candlemas, held on Feb. 2, the midpoint between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. Early Christians believed that a sunny Candlemas meant 40 more days of cold and snow. 10. Air traffic control staffing ‘not normal’ during DC ****** Air traffic control staffing ‘not normal’ during DC ****** Air traffic control staffing was “not normal” at the time of a mid-air collision between a military helicopter and passenger plane in Washington D.C. that killed 67 people, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy has acknowledged. US media reported that Reagan National Airport tower was understaffed during Wednesday’s ******, according to a government report. One air traffic control worker was managing helicopters and some planes from the airport, a job normally done by two people, two sources told CBS News, the BBC’s US news partner. “I’ll take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at their word that it wasn’t normal,” Duffy said when asked about reports during a Fox News interview on Sunday. Duffy said “that was part of the review process that we have to do”. He explained there was a “consolidation of air traffic controllers an hour before it was supposed to happen during the time of this ******. And so was, what was the appropriateness of that?” Duffy raised questions about whether controllers did “appropriately direct traffic, consistent with procedures at the FAA”, as well as the elevation of the helicopter. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Board Member Todd Inman said preliminary data revealed the helicopter was flying at about 200 feet, CBS reported. The flight ceiling for helicopters in the area near Reagan National Airport is 200 feet. Duffy also questioned the timing of its flight. “Why would they fly a mission at nine o’clock at night through really busy air space… as opposed to flying that mission at one o’clock in the morning, when there’s very little traffic”? he asked. “I want our military to be trained up and ready to go, but I also want air travellers to be safe as well, and there’s a time and a place to do it, not at nine o’clock at night when there’s heavy traffic.” Investigators are considering a number of factors, including height, in determining the cause of the ******, but have not yet made any public conclusions, NTSB officials said on Thursday. There were 64 passengers aboard the American Airlines flight when it collided mid-air with an Army ****** Hawk helicopter carrying three soldiers. There were no survivors. Duffy said the US has a chronic understaffing problem in air traffic control. US media has reported that more than 90% of air traffic control facilities in the country are operating below FAA recommended staffing levels. “We haven’t had enough air traffic controllers in America for a very long time,” Duffy said, adding “they are stressed out. They’re tapped out. They’re overworked. That’s no excuse. It’s just a reality of what we have in the system.” The new transportation secretary said he was working with the FAA to train new air traffic controllers and “has a plan that’s going to come out to fix the problem, but the issue is you can’t flip a switch and get air traffic controllers here tomorrow.” Source link #Air #traffic #control #staffing #normal #****** Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  11. Premier League relief for Ange – but not for Man Utd Premier League relief for Ange – but not for Man Utd On the day Marcus Rashford edged closer to a departure from Old Trafford, Manchester United lacked a cutting edge up front in a 2-0 home loss to Crystal Palace in the Premier League. There was more bad news Sunday for United with a tearful Lisandro Martinez carried off on a stretcher with a left knee injury – the latest injury to afflict the Argentina defender. But while Ruben Amorim was poring miserably over another setback, another beleaguered boss Ange Postecoglou got some blessed relief as his Spurs side won 2-0 at Brentford for their first EPL win in 49 days. Jean-Philippe Mateta scored both goals in the second half for Palace to end United’s three-match winning run in all competitions – a streak coming after manager Ruben Amorim had called his team “the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United.” The Amorim era looks set to be without England international Rashford, at least until the end of the season, with the forward reportedly undergoing a medical examination at Aston Villa ahead of sealing a loan move with a view to a permanent transfer. Even with striker Rashford absent, Amorim fielded a team with no out-and-out striker and failed to create many good chances against Palace, which picked off United on the counter. Mateta’s goals came in the 64th and 89th minutes. United have lost seven of their first 13 home games in the Premier League this season, which hasn’t happened since the 1893-94 season. Five of those defeats have come in the last six home matches under Amorim. “It is difficult to play here because we want to please our fans,” Amorim said. “This season is going to be like that, I said it since the first day.” United were overtaken by Palace and dropped to 13th in the standings – one place and two points ahead of Spurs, whose win ended a four-match losing sequence in the league. Vitaly Janelt scored an own-goal at a corner to put Tottenham ahead at halftime and Pape Sarr added the second goal in the 87th. “We needed a big effort again today, a physical effort. We put that in,” said Postecoglou, who rested defender Micky van de Ven after the defender returned from injury in the midweek win over Elfsborg in the Europa League. “Outstanding effort by the players.” The result was a huge boost for Tottenham ahead of arguably the team’s biggest match of the season, the second leg of the League Cup semi-finals against Liverpool on Thursday. 12. Transcript: Hanna Siegel on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,” Feb. 2, 2025 Transcript: Hanna Siegel on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,” Feb. 2, 2025 The following is the transcript of an interview with Hanna Siegel, niece of freed hostage Keith Siegel, on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” that aired on Feb. 2, 2025. MARGARET BRENNAN: The temporary cease fire between Israel and ****** is still holding, and three more hostages were released yesterday, including American-Israeli dual national, Keith Siegel, his niece Hanna Siegel is here with us this morning. Good morning. You’ve been waiting for this for over 400 days. How is your uncle doing? HANNA SIEGEL: First, thank you for having me. I’ve been dreaming about being here today. He’s- he’s doing okay. He’s, he’s lost some weight, he’s pale, but he’s strong, and he’s doing okay. Somehow. We’re incredibly grateful. MARGARET BRENNAN: I mean, we’ve seen the video and the images of him being reunited with family members. Will your father, his brother, see him soon? SIEGEL: Yes, he’s on his way. We’ve been staggering the family visits so as not to overwhelm him. But yes, we are all- we are all going to see him. And actually, his youngest daughter, Shir, got engaged a month before October 7, and so the wedding planning began, and then abruptly came to a stop as both of her parents, Keith and my aunt Aviva, who was released in the November 2023 deal, were taken hostage. So what we’ve talked about is that, you know, someday, we’re all going to get together and throw an absolutely epic wedding, and that’s what we’re looking forward to now. MARGARET BRENNAN: So you’ve been an advocate for the family here in Washington, both with the Biden and the Trump administrations. In your view, do you think this deal, this hostage release, would have happened without American pressure? SIEGEL: No, definitely not. And I do want to say to the Biden team, Jake Sullivan, Brett McGurk, President Biden, Secretary, Blinken, Bill Burns, they were so tireless in their commitment to get this deal done. But the really amazing thing is that the minute that President Trump was elected, his team started working hand in glove with the Biden administration. We felt no break in the commitment to get Keith home. Steve Witkoff and Adam Boehler, along with President Trump, started working hand-in-hand with the Biden team and I don’t know what other issue you can say that about with these administrations. The Trump team really did push it over the finish line and we’re incredibly grateful, incredibly grateful to all of them for the work that they did. I also just want to say the Qatari negotiators, mediators who were part of the November 2023 deal were also instrumental. And then what I’ve learned in this completely bizarre experience is that there is a whole industry of people, NGOs, who work on hostage negotiations on behalf of families. We worked with Global Reach, Mickey Bergman, Stacia George and Eric Lebson, they’re a nonprofit. We would not have gotten Keith home without them. So it was just a tremendous group effort across the board, across political lines, and that’s heartening. MARGARET BRENNAN: You told us back in April on this program that you were worried, quote, “it’s not arguably in Prime Minister Netanyahu’s political interest to close a deal,” and you were worried he was going to sink it. He has announced phase two of the hostage framework begins getting negotiated tomorrow, Monday. Do you think he’s incentivized now to actually see this deal through? SIEGEL: I think that the Trump team has done a really tremendous job of putting serious pressure on him, and that that is making a difference. I think that he, you know, we’re static, that Keith is home, but it took almost 500 days, and that is in part because of Netanyahu. This deal was available for months. The Biden team was working on it and- and he wouldn’t come to the table often. I mean, there are- this is such a complicated issue, but I am worried. I think this is a really fragile deal, as we all understand and so, you know, I have a lot of faith in the Trump team and in all of the people working on this to put serious pressure on him to see it through. I think what we’ve seen is that diplomacy and political agreement is the only way to get all of the hostages home. And you know, we’re one of the lucky ones, but there remain five American citizens and dozens of other hostages who still need to come home. MARGARET BRENNAN: And the remains of some of those Americans wouldn’t come through until phase three and phase two. We know ***** Alexander, a uniformed IDF soldier who is a U.S. citizen. SIEGEL: Yes. MARGARET BRENNAN: The deal would have to continue to work to actually bring him home. Sagui Chen, we’re waiting on him to be released as well. SIEGEL: Exactly. MARGARET BRENNAN: So I emphasize that, because when we talk about deals and diplomacy, these are lives at risk, and if the deal doesn’t continue to stay in place, they may be. SIEGEL: And these are Americans. These are Americans who need to come home. MARGARET BRENNAN: Hanna, thank you. SIEGEL: Thank you so much. MARGARET BRENNAN: Congratulations. SIEGEL: Thank you. MARGARET BRENNAN: It’s great news. SIEGEL: Thank you for having me. MARGARET BRENNAN: We’ll be right back. 14. ‘Optimistic’ deliveries will surpass 2025 target ‘Optimistic’ deliveries will surpass 2025 target Southwest (LUV) shares fell 5% this past week after higher costs overshadowed progress on the company’s turnaround plans. Much of the stock’s losses were a result of the airline warning that costs were set to accelerate in the first half of the year — echoing similar concerns raised by JetBlue (JBLU) earlier in the week — with earnings and margins expected to remain well below peak levels. Despite some of the near-term challenges plaguing lower-cost carriers, Southwest CEO Bob Jordan remains optimistic about the company’s recovery strategy — buoyed in part by rising confidence in its fleet partner, Boeing (BA). I spoke with Jordan following the airline’s earnings results earlier this week, and he told me he sees “a lot of progress” at the manufacturer following the firm’s recent strike resolution, though he acknowledged production constraints may take “years” to fully resolve. Steady improvement at Boeing is critical to Southwest’s business, as the airline operates an all-Boeing fleet. For the past year, ongoing delivery delays have forced Southwest to reduce capacity, shift schedules, and spend more to maintain its existing fleet — an issue that has “hamstrung” not only the low-cost carrier but the industry at large, according to aviation consultant Michael Boyd. Looking ahead, the outlook appears to be improving. After walking the planemaker’s factory floors earlier this month, Jordan expressed confidence in Boeing’s ability to ramp up 737 production. Jordan estimates deliveries will exceed its current target of 38 aircraft this year, with the potential to reach up to 55. That would mark a notable step forward for Boeing, which has been plagued by a series of setbacks over the past year, including the fallout after a door-plug panel blew off a 737 MAX midflight and a nearly eight-week work stoppage by the International Association of Machinists (IAM) union. Bank of America analyst Ron Epstein echoed Jordan’s optimistic take on Boeing in a note to clients. “The company has not shared its FY25 outlook as it focuses on fully recovering from the IAM work stoppage impacts and rebuilding trust. 737 production, which resumed in 4Q, is expected to gradually increase, with deliveries already on the rise,” Epstein wrote. On the company’s earnings call, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg told analysts that “things look encouraging so far” and said he sees the company potentially exceeding its target of producing 38 737s per month and reaching a pace of 42 per month by the end of the year. “It’s all about adhering to our safety management system and a stable factory as measured through agreed-upon key performance indicators,” Ortberg said. “It’s an early innings on the production ramp, and we need to stay disciplined on maintaining a stable production system.” Story Continues A rebound at Boeing would also further boost Southwest’s progress on efforts to mitigate cost inflation and become more efficient. Jordan told me “everything” in the airline’s $500 million cost-cutting plan is on track as consumer demand remains strong, citing strategic initiatives like co-brand agreements with Chase and partnerships with Icelandair (ICEAIR.IC) and MGM Resorts (MGM). “We’ve got a very solid guide on the revenue front into the first quarter, and we are very focused on cost … I’m really proud of the progress,” Jordan explained. “There’s a lot more work to do, but the team is on it and we are executing.” “Demand is strong,” Jordan added. “If you compare our unit revenue performance in the fourth quarter, we were able to beat our competitors … without having premium and international, the things that are really driving revenue production.” Southwest shares have climbed 8% since the airline unveiled its turnaround plan in September, closing the week at $30.71 per share. 16. Switch 2 game boxes ‘could be 40% larger than Switch boxes’ Switch 2 game boxes ‘could be 40% larger than Switch boxes’ Boxes for Nintendo Switch 2 games could be over 40% larger than original Switch game boxes, it’s claimed. According to Universo Nintendo editor Felipe Lima, game cases for the new system will reportedly be 13cm wide and 19.5cm tall, making them taller than a PS5 game case, which is 13.5cm wide and 17cm tall. This was reportedly discovered thanks to a listing for an unnamed Switch 2 game published by Take-Two Interactive, which was temporarily live on a French retail website. However, it’s not clear how accurate this information is. A user on Reddit mocked up an image of the alleged new case alongside the current Nintendo Switch case size. While not confirmed, it’s expected that Nintendo Switch 2 game carts will be roughly the same size as those used by Nintendo Switch, so this larger box will likely feature even more empty space than the current case does. It’s been speculated that the Switch 2 carts will feature some kind of physical difference from Switch 1 carts so that they don’t fit in the original console. Following years of speculation about its next console, Nintendo finally announced Switch 2 earlier this month. It confirmed that the system will launch this year, with a full reveal planned for April 2. It also announced plans to hold a series of Switch 2 preview events, giving attendees the chance to try out the console before it’s released. 17. This 14-inch Apple MacBook Pro (2024) laptop is only $1,589 at Amazon This 14-inch Apple MacBook Pro (2024) laptop is only $1,589 at Amazon If you’ve been holding out for an Apple MacBook Pro laptop, now is an excellent time to pick up the 2024 14-inch model. It usually goes for around $1,799 but right now it’s marked down to just $1,589 at Amazon—its lowest price to date. As of writing, we’re not sure for how long it will be offered at this price. This is one of the latest models, released last year, that comes with the newest generation Apple Silicon M4 chip. We reviewed a 16-inch version of this laptop last year and absolutely loved our experience. The specs are a little bit different between the one we reviewed and this one that’s on ***** but there’s enough overlap to get an idea of what you can expect. We ended up rating the 2024 Apple MacBook Pro 4.5 out of 5 stars, praising it for its exceptional battery life and M4 processor performance. The main processor powering this edition of the Apple MacBook Pro is, as we mentioned earlier, an M4 chip which has 10 cores — four of which are dedicated as performance cores and six are efficiency cores. The display is fairly notable, as well. It uses a 14.2-inch liquid retina XDR screen which can reach a maximum refresh rate of 120 Hz and has an impressively high maximum possible brightness of 1,600 Nits. This laptop’s memory, both RAM and SSD, can’t be upgraded but you get 16GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD for storage with this offer, just make sure that is ample for your predicted needs. It has an HDMI port and is capable of supporting a secondary display. A 3.5mm jack is provided for connecting external audio peripherals. It has WiFi 6E wireless support and also comes with Bluetooth 5.3. Visit the Apple MacBook Pro Laptop (2024) product page at Amazon for purchase options. It’s also worth being aware that shipping can take one to two months for this particular edition. 18. Musk team given access to sensitive federal payment system Musk team given access to sensitive federal payment system The Trump administration has given billionaire Elon Musk’s deputies access to the federal payments system that controls the flow of trillions of dollars in government funds every year, US media report. Reports suggest incoming Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has granted access to members of the Department of Government Efficiency (Doge) – which is not a government department, but a team within the administration – to sensitive personal information of millions of Americans. The division handles payments of nearly $6 trillion for programmes like Social Security, pays government salaries, and distributes money allotted by Congress. The White House and the Treasury Department did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The access to the payment system was granted on Friday, the same day when a longtime Treasury official named David Lebryk was put on administrative leave and suddenly retired, the New York Times reported. The newspaper said Mr Lebryk had strongly resisted allowing “Musk’s lieutenants into the department’s payment system, which sends out money on behalf of the entire federal government”. Musk, who is not officially a government employee, has been given extremely broad leeway by President Donald Trump to slash federal spending. He helped set up Doge in order to carry out this effort, bringing allies from his private companies and Silicon Valley to assist the process. Tom Krause, a Silicon Valley executive, is reported to be among the team working at Treasury. Typically, only a handful of Treasury employees work on the payments system. “To put it bluntly, these payment systems simply cannot fail, and any politically-motivated meddling in them risks severe damage to our country and the economy,” US Senator Ron Wyden, a Democrat from Oregon, wrote in a letter to Bessent. “I am concerned that mismanagement of these payment systems could threaten the full faith and credit of the United States,” he wrote. Meanwhile, the federal workforce has been grappling with the multiple executive orders signed by Trump since taking office. Employees have received letters from the Office of Personnel Management asking them to report their colleagues who are attempting to “disguise” diversity efforts, as well as an offer to take paid resignations — an offer many employees view with suspicion. Agencies have scrambled to pull down references to diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as transgender and LGBT individuals from their websites in order to comply with the executive orders. DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) programmes aim to promote participation in workplaces by people from a range of backgrounds. Their backers say they address historical or ongoing discrimination and underrepresentation of certain groups, including racial minorities, but critics argue such programmes can themselves be discriminatory. On Saturday, the website for the United States Agency for International Development, which distributes billions in aid around the world, appeared to stop working. 19. EA tells Battlefield fans to ‘tune in tomorrow’ for the first testing news EA tells Battlefield fans to ‘tune in tomorrow’ for the first testing news EA has told Battlefield fans to “tune in” to its social channels on Monday for news on a testing program for the next Battlefield Game. “Tune in tomorrow at 5PM CET / 8AM PDT for more on the upcoming #Battlefield community testing program,” it wrote on social media, along with a concept art image of the unnamed shooter sequel. The next Battlefield game has been in production at multiple internal studios for several years. EA revealed the first details on the new Battlefield late last year, alongside confirmation it would hold community testing in 2025. “We’re building a connected universe set in the modern day, for players filled with Battlefield experiences, all of them built with our unique DNA,” Byron Beede, group general manager for Battlefield, said at the time. “I also want to share with you that internally, we’ve been playing the game nearly daily for well over a year,” he added. “In addition to internal testing cycles, we’re already testing with players, and we plan to introduce a new large-scale, community-driven testing programme early next year.” EA announced last year that Dead Space remake and Star Wars: Squadrons studio Motive had joined its wider Battlefield development team. Motive is working alongside fellow internal studios DICE, Criterion and Ripple Effect on the new Battlefield. Beede said DICE is “leading the charge on multiplayer”, while Criterion is “driving content and experiences across single player and multiplayer”. 21. Trump says Americans could feel ‘some pain’ from his new tariffs that are triggering a trade war Trump says Americans could feel ‘some pain’ from his new tariffs that are triggering a trade war PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump said Sunday that Americans could feel “some pain” from the emerging trade war triggered by his tariffs against Canada, Mexico and China, and claimed that Canada would “cease to exist” without its trade surplus with the United States. “Canadians are perplexed,” the country’s U.S. ambassador said. “We view ourselves as your neighbor, your closest friend, your ally.” The trade penalties that Trump signed Saturday at his Florida resort caused a mix of panic, anger and uncertainty, and threatened to rupture a decades-old partnership on trade in North America while further straining relations with China. But by following through on a campaign pledge, Trump may have simultaneously broken his promise to voters in last year’s election that his administration could quickly reduce inflation. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. “WILL THERE BE SOME PAIN? YES, MAYBE (AND MAYBE NOT!),” Trump said in a social media post. “BUT WE WILL MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, AND IT WILL ALL BE WORTH THE PRICE THAT MUST BE PAID.” His administration has not said how high that price could be or what improvements would need to be seen in stopping ******** immigration and the smuggling of fentanyl to merit the removal of the tariffs that Trump imposed under the legal justification of an economic emergency. The tariffs are set to launch Tuesday. “If prices go up, it’s because of other people’s reactions to America’s laws,” his homeland secretary, Kristi Noem, said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” In his Truth Social post, Trump took particular aim at Canada, which responded with retaliatory measures. Trump is placing a 25% tariff on ********* goods, with a 10% tax on oil, natural gas and electricity. Canada is imposing 25% tariffs on more than $155 billion on U.S. products, including alcohol and fruit. Trump railed against Canada’s trade surplus with the United States: “We don’t need anything they have. We have unlimited Energy, should make our own Cars, and have more Lumber than we can ever use.” Despite Trump’s claim that the U.S does not need Canada, one-quarter of the oil that the America consumes per day is from its ally to the north. Trump contended that without that surplus, “Canada ceases to exist as a viable Country. Harsh but true! Therefore, Canada should become our Cherished 51st State. Much lower taxes, and far better military protection for the people of Canada — AND NO TARIFFS!” Canada’s ambassador to Washington, Kirsten Hillman, has said the U.S. had a $75 billion trade deficit with Canada last year, but noted that one-third of what Canada sells into the U.S. is energy exports and that there is a deficit when oil prices are high. About 60% of U.S. crude oil imports are from Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is encouraging Canadians to buy more ********* goods, and says Trump’s moves will only cause pain across North America. More than 75% of Canada’s exports go to the U.S. Canadians “just don’t understand where this is coming from … and probably there’s a little bit of hurt, right?” Hillman told ABC’s “This Week” on Sunday. Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, also announced new tariffs and suggested the U.S. should do more within its own borders to address drug addiction. She and Trudeau spoke after Trump’s announcement and agreed “to enhance the strong bilateral relations” between Canada and Mexico, according to the prime minister’s office. The ******** government said it would take steps to defend its economic interests and intends to file a lawsuit with the World Trade Organization. For Trump, the open question is whether inflation could be a political pressure point that would cause him to back down. As a candidate, Trump repeatedly hammered Democrats over the inflation under President Joe Biden that resulted from supply chain issues during the coronavirus pandemic, the Biden administration’s own spending to spur the recovery and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Trump said his previous four years as president had low inflation, so the public should expect the same if he came back to the White House. But he also said specifically that higher inflation would stagger the U.S. as a nation, a position from which he now appears to be retreating with the tariffs. “Inflation is a disaster,” he said at a Philadelphia campaign rally. “It’s a country-buster. It’s a total country-buster.” Larry Summers, treasury secretary under President Bill Clinton, said the tariffs were “a self-inflicted wound to the American economy.” “Inflation might go up over the next nine months by as much … as 1 percent, just at a moment when we were trying to bring it down,” he told CNN’s “Inside Politics.” He added that “on the playground or in international relations, bullying is not an enduringly winning strategy. And that’s what this is.” And the ultimate winner, Summers suggested, would be ******** leader Xi Jinping because “we’ve moved to drive some of our closest allies into his arms” and “we’re legitimating everything he’s doing by violating all the international norms that we set up. Outside analyses make clear that Trump’s tariffs would hurt the voters that he intended to help, meaning that he might ultimately need to find a resolution. An analysis by the Budget Lab at Yale shows, if the tariffs were to continue, an average U.S. household would lose roughly $1,245 in income this year, in what would be the overall equivalent of a more than $1.4 trillion tax increase over the next 10 years. Goldman Sachs, in a Sunday analyst note, stressed that the tariffs go into effect on Tuesday, which means they’re likely to proceed “though a last-minute compromise cannot be completely ruled out.” The investment bank concluded that because of the possible economic damage and possible conditions for removal that “we think it is more likely that the tariffs will be temporary but the outlook is unclear.” ___ Associated Press writer Rob Gillies in Toronto contributed to this report. 23. England suffer record defeat in final India T20 England suffer record defeat in final India T20 Abhishek Sharma smashed a scintillating century as India thrashed England by 150 runs in the fifth T20 in Mumbai to seal a 4-1 series win. The 24-year-old opener blasted 135 from 54 ****** – the highest score by an Indian batter in a T20 international – including 13 sixes and seven fours as the hosts reached 247-9. Chasing a near insurmountable target, Jos Buttler’s side crumbled in their reply and were skittled for 97 in 10.3 overs to suffer a record defeat by margin of runs. Having been put into bat on a good surface at the Wankhede Stadium, India blew England away in the powerplay – reaching 95-1 after the first six overs. Abhishek reached his fifty from 17 ******, then powered on to reach his century in 37 deliveries – the third fastest in a match between Test-playing nations. He hit his 13th and final six, another national record, one ball before he was finally dismissed, caught on the cover boundary by Jofra Archer off Adil Rashid. Phil Salt did his best to keep England up with the required rate, hitting 55 from 23 at the top of the order, but no other batter passed 10 in a dismal chase. India seamer Mohammed Shami took 3-25, while Abhishek claimed 2-3 from his single over, removing both Brydon Carse and Jamie Overton. Mark Wood was the last batter to fall, caught behind on review, with England ending their first white-ball series under coach Brendon McCullum with one of their heaviest defeats.
