RTX 5090 orders could take up to 16 weeks to fulfill at major *** retailer, shop ceases new pre-orders
A supply update from OCUK (Overclockers ***) indicates that users who’ve purchased an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 might need to wait for up to 16 weeks to receive their GPU. Following global RTX 50 sellouts, this news suggests that retailers’ struggles with Blackwell inventory will not be easing up anytime soon. We advise you to stick to your current GPU if you’re looking to upgrade, at least until supply improves.
Just a few hours into the embargo’s lifting saw virtually every RTX 50 GPU fly off shelves almost instantly. Newegg reports that its RTX 50 inventory evaporated in just 20 minutes, while most GPUs were already gone in the first five. Just two days before launch, even Nvidia admitted: “stock-outs may happen.” We’ve seen scalpers proudly offering these GPUs at 2x-3x the MSRP on marketplaces like eBay. With the RTX 5070 family debuting this month, we can only hope availability doesn’t plague its launch as well. Jensen’s infamous claim of an RTX 5070 matching the RTX 4090 (with MFG) is bound to lure unsuspecting customers. At near similar core counts, Blackwell offers a modest 10% bump in rasterization performance without any frame generation, so you can already imagine how the RTX 5070 will hold up to Jensen’s boast.
In its tweet at X, OCUK explains that its entire RTX 50 inventory has been depleted and pre-orders have been halted for the time being. Customers who have not received a dispatch confirmation email have been added to a pre-order ******, supply for which is expected within 3 to 16 weeks for the RTX 5090 and within 2 to 6 weeks for the RTX 5080. OCUK is holding off on new Blackwell orders until the uncertainty surrounding supply clears up. The retailer also apologized for a website outage around the RTX 50 launch frenzy. You can expand the tweet below to view the full statement.
RTX 50 Series Stock Update 31/01/2025Stock UpdateRTX 5090 sold out and pre-orders ceasedRTX 5080 sold out and pre-orders ceasedDue to incredibly high demand and limited stock, all 50 Series cards sold shortly after launch with some pre-orders taken in restricted quantities.…January 31, 2025
All things considered, the responsibility of ensuring availability at launch rests with Nvidia and AIBs. Each consumer-grade RTX 50 GPU produced means one less data-center Blackwell accelerator, as they use the same wafers from TSMC. Enthusiasts wanting the best-in-class can only turn to Nvidia this generation since AMD’s RDNA 4 will primarily focus on the mid-range to the budget segment of the market. With a possible RTX 5060 series arriving next month for the mainstream segment, where the bulk of the market resides, let’s hope Nvidia and its partners can get the supply situation under control.

Extreme weather system turns deadly as floodwaters rise
Extreme weather system turns deadly as floodwaters rise
An extreme weather system fuelled by two tropical lows has turned deadly after a woman was killed in floodwaters amid emergency warnings and evacuations, with more record rainfalls forecast.
Heavy rain is impacting vast regions of north Queensland extending from Mackay to the south of Cairns.
Emergency warnings are in place for six Townsville suburbs in the locally named “****** zone”, where residents have been told to leave.
Premier David Crisafulli warned residents not to be complacent after a 63-year-old woman died when a swift water rescue boat hit a tree on Sunday.
“There is more rain to come, and there is the prospect of record rainfalls … I’m just asking people just take the precautions, prepare for the worst, listen to the advice,” he told reporters on Sunday.
Police said the woman was one of six people in a State Emergency Service (SES) boat assisting members of the public through floodwaters when it struck a tree and flipped.
After a days-long deluge, the Bureau of Meteorology said more significant rainfall was expected on Monday and Tuesday due to a slow-moving, low-pressure system and a monsoonal trough.
“Unfortunately as we get into Monday morning and into Tuesday … there’s a feed of moisture and convergence around the Cardwell-Ayr area,” the bureau’s Dean Narramore said.
“We’re likely to see major to record flooding occur on some of our rivers.”
An evacuation warning was issued for Bluewater, near Townsville, on Sunday with residents urged to leave immediately.
Defence personnel and police door-knocked thousands of homes across the weekend to warn people in at-risk areas to prepare to evacuate.
Townsville and surrounds have already received between 500mm and 800mm, with more rainfall of up to 500mm in some areas.
Roads are cut, Townsville’s airport has been closed and dozens of schools have shut.
The Bruce Highway – the state’s major north-south freight and commuter corridor – was closed at Cluden, between Townsville and Ayr and Ingham to Yabula.
A further 267mm of rain lashed Paluma between Ingham and Townsville in six hours, with the bureau warning on Sunday that intense rainfall could lead to life-threatening flash flooding.
Energy Queensland said it turned off the substation supplying power to about 6700 properties around Ingham while the community of Palm Island went dark after a landslide damaged the electricity network.

The Boston 25 Weather team is tracking more snow to wrap up the weekend and kick off the work week.
Saturday’s snow will taper off by mid-afternoon, with a light coating to 1″ of snow possible.
Sunday will start off dry and chilly, with highs only reaching the low 30s. According to Boston 25 Meteorologist Vicki Graf, the next snow system is expected to arrive Sunday night. Snow will begin between 10 p.m. and 4 a.m., moving out early Monday morning before most people wake up.
Southeastern Massachusetts can expect a coating to 1″ of snow, while the rest of the region should see 1-3 inches.
“This isn’t a whole lot of snow but you still may want to give yourself as little extra time early Monday to remove that snow off the car,” Graf said in her morning forecast.
Monday will be a bit warmer, with highs reaching the mid-40s, which should help melt some of the snow.

Head, Cummins favourites for Allan Border Medal
Head, Cummins favourites for Allan Border Medal
Travis Head could become the first South *********** to win the prestigious Allan Border Medal when the 2025 *********** Cricket Awards take place in Melbourne.
The Allan Border Medal and Belinda Clark Award will be bestowed upon Australia’s leading male and female cricketers from the past 12 months in a lavish ceremony at Melbourne’s Crown Casino on Monday.
Head is coming off a bumper 12 months across all three formats and has been tipped by stand-in captain Steve Smith to win the men’s award.
The 31-year-old scored a staggering 1427 runs across all three formats in the 12-month polling ******* that began with Australia’s home Test series against West Indies last January, and ended with the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Smith has the next-most runs with 806, while only Adam Zampa (31) played more games than Head (29) in the voting *******.
A blistering 140 runs in his home Test match at the Adelaide Oval against India was an undeniable highlight for Head, and helped reignite Australia’s series after their dismal loss in the series opener.
Since the Allan Border Medal was first presented in 2000, to Glenn McGrath, no South *********** has ever won the award.
The likes of Greg Blewett, Darren Lehmann and Jason Gillespie were all overlooked in the early 2000s during prize’s early days.
No Victorian has ever won, either.
The award has been dominated by New South Wales players, with Michael Clarke, Steve Smith, David Warner, Shane Watson, Steve Waugh and Brett Lee among previous winners.
Test and one-day international captain, and 2019 Allan Border Medallist, Pat Cummins appears Head’s biggest competition.
The paceman was recently named captain of the ICC’s Test Team of the Year for picking up 37 wickets in nine Tests at an average of 24.02.
At the Twenty20 World Cup last year, Cummins recorded hat-tricks in consecutive games in the Caribbean – a feat unmatched in 20 years of T20I cricket.
Mitch Marsh, last year’s winner, was dropped from the Test team during the recent India series and is not considered to be in contention.
Ash Gardner is vying to become one of only five women to win the Belinda Clark Award more than twice after a stellar 12 months.
The allrounder would join legendary former captain Meg Lanning and star allrounder Ellyse Perry on three wins if she were to pick up a third medal in four years.
The 27-year-old recorded her first international century during the recent multi-format Ashes – 102 in the third ODI in Hobart – and was Australia’s leading ODI run-scorer in the voting ******* with 385 runs.
Annabel Sutherland and Beth Mooney, both important in sealing Australia’s recent 16-0 Ashes whitewash, are also contenders.

Scientists sound the alarm after finding thousands of seabirds dead on beaches: ‘The message is clear’
Scientists sound the alarm after finding thousands of seabirds dead on beaches: ‘The message is clear’
Scientists have discovered that marine heat waves are having a devastating impact on populations of seabirds in Alaska after examining population numbers.
What’s happening?
In 2014, scientists at the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge knew something was wrong when they started noticing thousands of common murres washing up on beaches in Alaska.
A decade later, a study led by these scientists has documented the devastating effect that marine heat waves have had on the population of these birds along the coast of Alaska.
As the University of Washington detailed, data was collected from surveys of the bird colonies between 2008 and 2022 to determine the impact that a marine heat wave that occurred between 2014 and 2016 had on population numbers.
It was found that this heat wave, known as “The Blob,” resulted in the deaths of between 50 to 75% of the birds, depending on the colony in question.
The study, which was led by biologist Heather Renner and published in Science, estimated that approximately 4 million birds died in total, which is around half the population.
Watch now: CEO reveals form of energy that has ‘polled across political lines’ for over a decade
Examination of the bird carcasses revealed the heat waves had caused changes in the populations of the fish they feed on, leading the birds to die of starvation.
Worryingly, there has been no sign of the bird populations recovering in the years since.
“Whether the warming comes from a heat wave, El Niño, Arctic sea ice loss or other forces, the message is clear: Warmer water means massive ecosystem change and widespread impacts on seabirds,” said Julia Parrish, a UW professor and author on the study.
Why is this discovery important?
As this study demonstrates, marine heat waves are having a devastating impact on our oceans and the life within them.
In some areas, heat waves can cause oxygen levels to deplete, resulting in dead zones that are unable to support life. Warming also impacts ocean flora and fauna in other ways.
For example, one study found that warming waters impacted a fish’s memory, which could have implications on their ability to find food and shelter, affecting their chances of survival.
Warming waters are also impacting the behavior and migration patterns of some marine species, which can put them at risk, as the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources shared.
With the frequency of marine heat waves increasing as global temperatures continue to rise, understanding how these heat waves impact ecosystems can help guide marine ecosystem management and conservation efforts.
Can anything be done to stop marine heat waves?
One of the best ways we can help prevent marine heat waves is to limit pollution. By reducing our reliance on dirty energy and lowering red meat consumption, among other things, we can help reduce the amount of harmful planet-warming gases we put into the atmosphere.

1,000-year-old lost residence of King Harold found, thanks to a toilet
1,000-year-old lost residence of King Harold found, thanks to a toilet
Archaeologists believe they have located the legendary “lost” residence of Harold Godwinson, the last Anglo-Saxon king of England, thanks to a toilet (and thorough research).
Experts suspected that his estate once stood in Bosham, West Sussex, a location famously immortalized in the Bayeux Tapestry. This had never been proven. New evidence surfaced, however, that has brought this unsolved mystery closer to being a closed case.
A team from Newcastle University and the University of Exeter reexamined an earlier excavation project in 2006. It had identified two Medieval buildings, one of which held a toilet, which, interestingly enough, enabled these researchers to confirm that the property belonged to King Harold “beyond all reasonable doubt.”
Bayeux Tapestry detail / courtesy of The Society of Antiquaries of LondonA toilet proves King Harold once lived on the estate
As part of a larger excavation project to locate and explore former aristocratic centers in England, researchers employed various methods to probe a now private property on which a former church from the 10th century AD still stands.
After an exhaustive investigation, which included a geophysical survey of the surrounding area, studying the remains, scouring through maps and records, and reopening a former dig, they assembled a detailed profile like never before.
According to a recent press release, they found two Medieval buildings on the property: one integrated into the current house and another in the garden. The previous excavation carried out by West Sussex Archaeology in 2006 had discovered a toilet. However, archaeologists only began identifying this trend in England in the past decade, beginning in the 10th century AD. At this time, it was fashionable for the elite to integrate toilets into their homes.
The toilet might not have alerted archaeologists of the past, but it did communicate to current researchers that someone well-endowed once inhabited these grounds. Found in a large timber building, the hall was attached to a much larger complex, suggesting that Harold resided here before his ultimate demise.
“The realisation that the 2006 excavations had found, in effect, an Anglo-Saxon en-suite confirmed to us that this house sits on the site of an elite residence pre-dating the Norman Conquest. Looking at this vital clue, alongside all our other evidence… we have here the location of Harold Godwinson’s private power centre, the one famously depicted on the Bayeux Tapestry,” says Dr. Duncan Wright, Senior Lecturer in Medieval Archaeology at Newcastle University.
“Hugely significant”as the only example of its kind
King Harold only ruled for nine months. He was killed in the Battle of Hastings in 1066, which ended Anglo-Saxon rule in England. The Bayeux Tapestry depicts Harold’s final moments before William, Duke of Normandy, defeated him in battle. Practically nothing remains of the English aristocracy from that time.
“The Norman Conquest saw a new ruling class supplant an English aristocracy that has left little in the way of physical remains, which makes the discovery at Bosham hugely significant — we have found an Anglo-Saxon show-home,” concludes Professor Oliver Creighton of the University of Exeter, and Co-Investigator of the project in a press release.
Their research was published in The Antiquaries Journal.

Tony Martin, who killed burglar at farmhouse, dies
Convicted killer Tony Martin, who shot dead a teenage intruder in his home in 1999, has died at the age of 80, a family friend has said.
The killing of 16-year-old Fred Barras at Martin’s Norfolk farmhouse was hugely controversial at the time, with the country divided over whether his actions were pre-meditated, or simply a farmer defending himself and his property.
Martin was jailed in 2000 for the boy’s *******, and for injuring another man, 29-year-old Brendan Fearon in the same incident, before being released three years later after the ******* conviction was reduced to manslaughter.
Martin lived on his own at his sprawling, semi-derelict farmhouse in Emneth Hungate, near Wisbech on the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire border at the time of the incident.

How a father gave his kidney to a stranger to save his wife in incredible three-way donor swap
How a father gave his kidney to a stranger to save his wife in incredible three-way donor swap
James Collins donated a kidney to help save his wife. But his kidney didn’t go to her – instead, the pair were involved in a three-way organ swap involving six patients, three hospitals and dozens of staff.
The *** Kidney Sharing Scheme connects donors who are unable to match with family members to people who can help them. Last year, more than 20 three-way organ swaps took place as part of the scheme which can see organs rushed by car, ambulance and even plane from hospital to hospital across the ***.
Mr Collins’s wife Claire was born with a rare kidney disease, and while he was not a match for his wife, doctors said they could be entered into the national database as a pair, with the hopes of finding other pairs that could match.
“With the shared scheme, it was a no-brainer: it wasn’t just Claire’s life we were impacting at that point,” he told The Independent.
Mr Collins donated his kidney to someone at a different hospital, while his wife Claire received a donor kidney from someone else (Supplied)
There are more than 6,000 people on the waiting list for a kidney transplant in the ***, and the NHS Blood and Transplant’s associate medical director for living donations Lisa Burnapp said a kidney from a living donor like Mr Collins offered the best chance of successful transplant for people with end-stage kidney disease.
“The more people who are willing to consider donating in this way, the more kidneys there are available to help everyone waiting for a transplant,” she said.
Nearly one in three (27 per cent) kidney transplants are from a living donor, benefiting about 900 patients in the *** each year. In 2023-24, 185 of those transplants were performed through the living kidney sharing scheme, including 21 which were performed through a three-way exchange.
But getting those exchanges to work is no mean feat, said Joanna James, transplant coordinator at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, even once donors and recipients have been matched.
“There’s six people involved in some of these exchanges. So that’s potential of six patients in that ******* becoming unwell,” she told The Independent, adding that coordinating theatre space and staff between three hospitals is also tricky.
About 900 people benefit each year from living kidney donation (Supplied/NHSBT)
Professor Adnan Sharif, a consultant nephrologist and transplant physician at University Hospitals Birmingham, said when it does get confirmed he will be working with his transplant coordinator to make sure his donor operation happens at the right time.
“All the donor operations usually happen simultaneously, and we will not proceed until we’ve had the go-ahead,” he said.
Once the donor kidneys are removed, it is up to transport coordinators like Mrs James to ensure the organs are transported to the recipient’s hospital.
Mrs James said it can be a “nightmare” to coordinate, but added: “When it all comes together, it’s amazing.”
Prof Sharif said the scheme has been a “great success”, adding that it has also helped raise awareness of organ donation in general.
“We have a lot of pride in the scheme,” he said. “It’s ranked even by colleagues outside the ***, as probably the best one, I think, because it’s a national system and it’s very effective.
Mr Collins said his life returned to normal after recoering from surgery, but it’s made a huge difference for his wife Claire (Supplied)
Former health minister Lord Ara Darzi who became patron of the Robert Dangoor Partnership for Living Kidney Donation this week, said: “The incredible act of donating a kidney helps to significantly improve the lives of people with debilitating kidney disease, while also helping to ease the burden of kidney disease being felt by the NHS.”
Mr and Mrs Collins had their surgeries nearly six years ago. While Mr Collins said his life returned to normal after surgery, his wife’s life has improved immeasurably.
“The impact on Claire was immediate … she had more energy, she felt warm, she wasn’t tired, it was great to see,” he said.
“It has very little negative impact on the donor, but the person who’s receiving it, I can see the impact.”

Here’s what could get more expensive under Trump’s tariffs
Here’s what could get more expensive under Trump’s tariffs
U.S. President Donald Trump hold up an executive order, “Unleashing prosperity through deregulation,” that he signed in the Oval Office on January 31, 2025 in Washington, DC.

President Donald Trump’s threatened tariffs against Mexico, Canada and China went into effect Saturday evening, slapping a 25% wholesale tariff on both Mexico and Canada at once.
China, at the moment, is only being levied with a 10% tariff.
Trump is taking a more aggressive strategy against the nation’s neighbors than he did in his first administration. At that time, he took a more targeted approach to specific industries, like steel and aluminum.
This time around, the tariffs seem to apply to most categories, although there was a carve out for ********* energy, which will be tariffed at 10% instead of 25%.
The sweeping tariff could make more expensive a host of items that the U.S. imports from its neighbors. Among the common ******** imports that will now get pricier to bring into the country: fruits, vegetables, beer, liquor and electronics. And from Canada: potatoes, grains, lumber and steel.

EY Chief Economist Gregory Daco said agricultural products are a major category of trade between the U.S., China, and Mexico.
“We tend to think a lot about merchandise goods as being automotive goods, furniture goods and these types of heavy equipment goods. But we should not forget that we also do a lot of trade on the agricultural front,” Daco said. “So we could see upward pressure for meat prices, upward pressure for dairy prices. Those are the types of categories that directly hit consumers wallets.”
That would compound already high grocery prices, which are up 28% over the last five years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
With deeply intertwined automotive supply chains between the three countries, cars and auto parts are likely to get pricier to bring into the U.S., too.
S&S Automotive services cars in Secaucus, New Jersey, where owner Keith Scaglione says tariffs would likely make the cost of parts like oil filters more expensive, making even routine fixes costlier for consumers.
“Oil changes, mainly that’ll be the first noticeable one, an average oil change on most vehicles is now anywhere between $50 to $80. It’s probably going to end up over $100,” Scaglione said.
The tariffs announced Saturday could be the beginning of a policy war, with tariff rates at risk of ratcheting even higher. In announcing the tariffs Saturday the White House added there was a “retaliation clause” added to the measures.
“So that if any country chooses to retaliate in any way, the signal will be to take further action with respect to likely increased tariffs,” the White House said.
Trump is enacting the tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, which allows the president to respond to “extraordinary threat,” which Trump has identified as a fentanyl and drug crisis that he alleges China, Mexico, and Canada facilitate.
In tandem with the 10% tariff on China, the U.S. is targeting its top three trading partners, accounting for over $1.2 trillion of imports last year.
The 10% tariff on ********* energy is a major development for an industry that almost unilaterally sells crude oil to the U.S. Canada Energy Regulator reported that in 2023 it sent about 97% of all its crude oil exports to the United States.
For U.S. refineries that are specifically tuned to ********* oil, any costs associated with switching imports could lead to more expensive gas prices at the pump.
Daco said imposing tariffs “on large trading partners would have severe economic consequences” for the U.S., Mexico and Canada, “and could lead to an environment that is both a higher inflation environment and also a lower growth environment because of the importance of the trade with both of these economies.”

Nvidia RTX 3090 sent in to repairer was missing the GPU and all its memory chips
Nvidia RTX 3090 sent in to repairer was missing the GPU and all its memory chips
Alex from NorthridgeFix was in despair after a customer sent him an “insane RTX 3090” for repair. The graphics card was sent over to NorthridgeFix as it wasn’t detected when plugging into a PC system. An accompanying note explained that the card was “not used for mining,” had been in storage for several years, and that the fans and RGB LEDs sometimes worked. However, Alex quickly discovered that this graphics card was beyond repair: with a missing GPU, devoid of VRAM chips, and “knocked off components like you’ve never seen before.” The PCB looks a real mess.
Received This Insane RTX 3090 for Repair and Totally Lost My Mind! – YouTube
Watch On
NorthridgeFix has seen its fair share of hopeless cases sent in for repair, but this RTX 3090 (review link) seems rather puzzling to Alex. Firstly, the owner writes as if this has been his gaming card and simply neglected in a stored PC for the last three years. The owner goes on to reassure the graphic card fixing service that the RTX 3090 won’t have been damaged from cryptocurrency mining. However, this poor graphics card has far more damage than running in a GPU mining rig could have ever inflicted. “Is that customer in touch with reality?” mused Alex, rhetorically.
Image 1 of 2
Missing and misplaced component calamity
There must be a simpler explanation for the missing GPU and RAM chips, and the chaotic damage to other supporting components we see. The answer, reckons Alex, is that his customer bought this GPU from a scammer who offered reassurances that this particular GPU had been in a gaming PC in storage for several years, and never used for GPU mining. These reassurances were then passed on in the repair quote message from the customer, who perhaps hoped a simple fix was possible. This definitely wasn’t an “easy issue” a repairer could resolve.
The best lesson we can take away from this video is that buyers need to be more careful when purchasing used computers and components. Alex from NorthridgeFix winds up his video by repeatedly stressing that it is important to choose an online platform that is trusted and “have a very good return policy” when distance buying. If you can buy and test in person, with a local deal, that might be different as you could insist on running some games and benchmarks to test the hardware – as well as speak to the previous owner in person.
At this time, with people selling-on old GPUs to raise the cash for next-gen components, the above lesson of the hopelessly broken RTX 3090 might serve as an important reminder. Cards like this are still potent, sitting high in the Tom’s Hardware GPU hierarchy, and VRAM-wise (24GB) it comfortably beats the shiny new RTX 5080 (16GB). Just please be careful out there in second-hand land, folks.

Slimming World’s managing director said founder Margaret Miles-Bramwell had “a fierce belief in doing the right thing”
An entrepreneur who grew the firm Slimming World from a single weight loss group to a network of more than 3,500 consultants has died.
Margaret Miles-Bramwell started the business in 1969 in Alfreton, Derbyshire, next to Somercotes, where the firm today employs 400 staff at its headquarters.
Mrs Miles-Bramwell died on Sunday morning at her Mallorca home surrounded by family, the firm said in a statement.
It added: “She leaves the world a healthier place”.
Mrs Miles-Bramwell, 76, from Mansfield Woodhouse in Nottinghamshire, was awarded an OBE in 2009 for her services to the health of the British public.

The then-Prince of Wales handed an OBE to Mrs Miles-Bramwell in 2009
She was a “loving and much-loved” daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, said Slimming World.
Managing director Lisa Salmon said: “Margaret steered her ship in the way she lived her life – with a generous spirit, passionate conviction, a wicked and rebellious sense of humour, and a fierce belief in doing the right thing.
“Our job now is to continue to keep her legacy alive by doing the very same thing.”
Mrs Miles-Bramwell was born in April 1948 and grew up in South Normanton.
According to Slimming World, she had struggled with her own weight since childhood.
She set up her first group in a church hall in Alfreton in 1969, to help people with both their weight and with “the sometimes far heavier burden of shame and self-criticism”.

Mrs Miles-Bramwell was a “driving force” in the firm she founded more than five decades ago
The firm said it held those founding principles key to their strategy.
Mrs Miles-Bramwell remained chairwoman of the firm until her death.
In a statement, Slimming World said: “Margaret touched the hearts and changed the lives of millions of people, including all of Slimming World’s consultants and staff, who will feel her loss deeply.
“Right now, our thoughts are with Margaret’s family. We take comfort, as we’re sure they do, in the hope that Margaret is now reunited with her beloved husband Tony, who passed away in 2021.”

Zelensky says there have been over 1,400 Russian airstrikes this week
Zelensky says there have been over 1,400 Russian airstrikes this week
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky made a fresh appeal to the West, urgently requesting more support, after another week when more than 1,400 Russian airstrikes targeted his country.
“Every day, Russia attacks Ukraine with drones, missiles and aerial bombs,” he said in statement shared on his Telegram channel on Sunday. Accompanying the statement was a video showing images of death and destruction in Ukrainian cities.
Russia attacked Ukraine with around 50 missiles, nearly 660 drones and more than 760 glide bombs in the past week, he said.
“Russia will not stop on its own. The world must force it to end this brutal and unprovoked aggression,” said Zelensky.
“Strengthening our defence is absolutely necessary. We need better protection – air defence systems, long-range weapons and sanctions pressure,” he said.
A video published to underline Zelensky’s demand showed images of the death and destruction in Ukrainian cities in recent days.
According to the authorities, 15 historic buildings in the centre of the port city of Odessa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, were damaged in Russian rocket attacks.
In an update to an attack the previous day, the civil defence force said on Sunday that the number of dead rose to at least 14 after a rocket hit a residential building in Poltava in central Ukraine, with two chidren among the fatalities.
A whole family was wiped out there, said the head of the presidential administration in Kiev, Andriy Yermak.
Ukraine has been defending itself against Russia’s full-scale invasion for almost three years.

Palace to stop detailing Kate’s outfits: report
Palace to stop detailing Kate’s outfits: report
Kensington Palace will no longer routinely release details of the Princess of Wales’ outfits from her royal engagements, a newspaper reports.
Kate has been frustrated by a perceived focus on her style rather than the substance of her work, according to the Sunday Times.
The newspaper reported that Kensington Palace may still issue details on outfits or jewellery worn for important state and family events, despite the changes in relation to other public engagements.
The palace has in the past frequently issued information to the media on the clothes and jewellery worn by Kate.
Brands have often received a boost from the so-called “Kate effect” after their lines are worn by the royal.
A Kensington Palace source told the Sunday Times: “There is an absolute feeling that it is not about what the princess is wearing.
“She wants the focus to be on the really important issues, the people and the causes she is spotlighting.
“There will always be an appreciation of what the princess is wearing from some of the public and she gets that.
“But do we need to be officially always saying what she is wearing? No. The style is there but it’s about the substance.”
Kensington Palace did not issue details of Kate’s outfit to the media during two recent engagements in Wales.
Kate made a solo visit on Thursday, meeting youngsters at the Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice.
The princess, who confirmed last month she is in remission from *******, has become patron of the hospice as she continues her gradual return to public duties.
Kate also visited the Welsh knitwear and sock manufacturer Corgi in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire to shine a light on British industry.
The report comes as Kate launches a new initiative aimed at developing the United Kingdom’s “social and emotional skills” to alleviate the human cost from a world sometimes filled with “mistrust and misunderstanding”.
Kate’s Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood has published the Shaping Us Framework aimed at increasing awareness of these soft or life skills to inspire action across society.

I tried Nespresso’s energy-boosting coffee capsules, and I have a new favorite morning brew
I tried Nespresso’s energy-boosting coffee capsules, and I have a new favorite morning brew
Coffee capsules are having a renaissance. Once valued mostly for convenience, they’re now becoming a way to try speciality beans and blends easily at home. When I spoke to Colin Morrison, Managing Director at Small Batch Coffee Roasters, about coffee trends in 2025, speciality capsules were one of his top picks.
“With advancements in technology and an emphasis on preserving the nuanced flavors of specialty coffee, pod manufacturers and roasters are delivering high-quality options,” Morrison explained.
Most recently, Nespresso has launched a range of new Vertuo Coffee+ capsules, which are intended to give your usual morning brew an extra boost with added nutrients and caffeine. There’s even an option to pick up a pack of collagen supplements along with your pods. The jury is out on just how effective collagen supplements are for improving the health of your joints and skin, but if you’re thinking of incorporating it into your daily routine, then adding it to your morning brew seems like a good way to establish the new habit.
I have a little Nespresso Vertuo Pop at home, which despite its small size and very modest price tag is one of the best Nespresso machines around. It usually takes a back seat to my manual espresso maker, so I was curious to see whether this new generation of capsule might sway me.
After all, I seem to be in a *********. A recent survey by Deloitte found that 39% of regular coffee drinkers favor instant, while 28% prefer filter and 25% use capsules. Just 20% use a fully automatic espresso machine, and manual espresso machines didn’t even make the cut when it comes to the top five ways to prepare a morning brew. Perhaps I’ve been missing out.
Top of the pods
I was most intrigued by the Nespresso Coffee+ Ginseng Delight capsule, which contains a blend of robusta and arabica beans, with ginseng, and “a soft caramel flavor”. Robusta beans are higher in caffeine and have a more bitter, punchy taste than arabica, which is lighter and more fruity, As such, I was interested to see how the two would work together – particularly since ginseng also has quite a bitter flavor.
A few seconds after dropping the capsule into my coffee machine, I found myself with a surprisingly ******* and easy-drinking double espresso. I’m not normally a big fan of extra flavoring in coffee, since you can have so much fun experimenting with beans and grind sizes to try different tastes, but here the added caramel was just enough to take away any hint of bitterness without becoming too sweet. Nespresso suggests it’s best enjoyed on its own, but after a little experimentation, I can say that the smooth taste works well as a latte.

The next day, I tried the Vivida capsule, which contains extra vitamin B12. As the NHS explains, vitamin B12 is necessary to make red blood cells and keep the nervous system healthy, release energy from food, and use folate. Meat and dairy products are good sources, but vegetarians and vegans may struggle to get enough in their diet.
Unlike the Ginseng Delight, this capsule brews a 230ml mug of coffee. Its biscuity flavor pairs well with a splash of oat or dairy milk, but it’s also enjoyable ******, and the added vitamin B12 doesn’t seem to affect the flavor. Each Vivida capsule contains 0.63μg of vitamin B12, which is well within the limits of what the NHS suggests is safe for a supplement.
I had a long marathon training run the following morning, so I decided to take one of the added caffeine capsules for a spin. The Stormio Boost capsule (an attractive shade of green) creates a cup of coffee with a smooth, smoky flavor, and 20% more caffeine than Nespresso’s regular Stormio blend.
The extra caffeine comes from unroasted (aka green) coffee beans, which are then used for decaf blends. The green Stormio beans are then treated with steam and infused with the extracted caffeine before being roasted. As another member of my running club noted, it’s coffee with extra coffee, which sounds good to me.
Did it have a noticeable effect on my training run? It’s hard to say, but I got through 17 miles using only regular non-caffeinated energy gels, so perhaps it did have some impact (or maybe it was just the peanut butter and banana on toast I had with it). Regardless, it tasted good.
On the final day of my experiment, I popped the golden Melozio Boost capsule into the chamber of my little Nespresso machine and watched as another 230ml of rich, caffeine-enhanced coffee dispensed itself into my mug. I found that the Melozio had a milder, less bitter taste than the Stormio. It’s an easier-drinking option, even if you usually steer clear of ****** coffee. If I didn’t know better, I wouldn’t have guessed that it contains just as much caffeine as the punchier green capsule.
All four of the capsules I tried had their perks, but it’s the Ginseng Delight that gets my personal vote. It’s the most unusual of the set, and its caramel flavor is unlike anything you’ll get from beans alone. I do love a latte as well, and it works perfectly with steamed milk. I won’t be shutting my manual espresso machine away in a cupboard any time soon, but I think I’ll find a place for the Vertuo Pop beside it, so I can choose between the two in future.
