Another loaded Russian oil tanker stricken at sea
Another loaded Russian oil tanker stricken at sea
A heavily-laden Russian oil tanker ran aground in the Baltic Sea in northern Russia on Sunday, according to media reports.
In the latest incident involving a Russian vessel, the Koala was carrying 130,000 tons of fuel oil, wrote the Russian-language Baza Telegram channel, which has close ties to the Russian security services.
“According to our sources, there were several explosions in the engine room, after which the ship filled with water,” posted the outlet.
The governor of the Leningrad region by the city of St Petersburg, Alexander Drozdenko, later confirmed an accident in the area. The tanker’s engine room was damaged when the engines were started, the official said.
The accident occurred near the port of Ust-Luga, around 150 kilometres west of St Petersburg. All 24 crew members were reportedly able to safely disembark onto the land.
While Baza reported that the stern of the tanker ran aground on a sandbank, Drozdenko said it was able to be moored at a jetty with no loss of oil into the water.
The ship officially flies the flag of Antigua and Barbuda. It is unclear whether it also belongs to Russia’s so-called shadow fleet, which the country uses to circumvent international sanctions on its export of oil.
Meanwhile, another tanker reportedly ran aground in the Russian Far East. According to the Interfax news agency, a ******** vessel encountered difficulties in a storm near the Russian island of Sakhalin.
Authorities were preparing for a possible pump-out of part of the load on board the tanker, which was said to be carrying coal and heavy fuel oil.
In mid-December, two Russian tankers carrying thousands of tons of fuel oil sank in the ****** Sea, causing major spillages into the sea and along the shoreline.
According to ecologists, the environmental damage in the Kerch Strait, which separates Russia from Crimea, will continue for many years.

Intel Continues to See Revenue Declines. Can the Stock Rebound?
Intel Continues to See Revenue Declines. Can the Stock Rebound?
Intel’s (NASDAQ: INTC) fourth-quarter results topped analysts’ expectations but also showed a company that continues to struggle to find its footing. Its revenues once again declined, and it delayed an important chip launch. The stock is down more than 50% over the past year.
Let’s take a closer look at the semiconductor company’s Q4 results, and whether it can pull off a turnaround.
For the third consecutive quarter, Intel saw its revenue decline. For Q4, revenue dropped 7% year over year to $14.3 billion while adjusted earnings per share (EPS) plunged 76% to $0.13.
Nonetheless, the results topped the analyst consensus calling for adjusted EPS of $0.12 on revenue of $13.8 billion.
Gross margin, meanwhile, fell by 650 basis points from 45.7% to 39.2%.
Intel’s product segment saw revenue fall 6% to $13 billion. Within the segment, the client computing group’s revenue declined by 9% to $8 billion. This unit is home to Intel’s core personal computer CPU (central processing unit) business. It said it is on track to ship 100 million cumulative artificial intelligence (AI) PCs by the end of 2025, and that it will launch its new Panther Lake chip in the second half.
Intel’s data center and AI unit, meanwhile, saw sales decline 3% to $3.4 billion, while its network and edge unit saw sales decline by 10% to $1.6 billion. The company is working on closing competitive gaps within the data center and has a number of upcoming data center CPU launches over the next two years to help in that regard. However, it is pushing back the expected launch of its important Clearwater Forest data center processor to the first half of 2026.
Overall, operating income for Intel’s product segment fell 18% to $3.6 billion. Nearly $3.1 billion of that comes from CCG, which saw its operating income drop by 14%.
Intel’s foundry segment, meanwhile, continued to struggle. Foundry revenue fell by 13% to $4.5 billion. The segment’s operating loss expanded from $1.3 billion to $2.3 billion. It is looking to be breakeven in this segment by the end of 2027, helped by improved efficiencies and internal and EUV (extreme ultraviolet) wafers.

The company generated $8.3 billion in operating cash flow during 2024, but it spent $23.9 billion in capital expenditures (capex) as it continues to build out its foundry operations. It ended the year with $50 billion in debt against $22.1 billion in cash and short-term investments. It also has $7.86 billion in grants from the U.S. Department of Commerce to build out its foundries in the U.S.
Story Continues
Looking ahead, Intel forecast first-quarter revenue to be between $11.7 billion and $12.7 billion, compared to revenue of $12.7 billion a year ago. It’s looking for 36% gross margin, down 910 basis points year over year, and adjusted EPS of $0.00, compared to $0.18 last year. It plans to lower its 2025 capex to around $20 billion.
Intel plans to focus on monetizing non-core assets to help pay down debt. This includes selling a stake in Altera and potentially IPOing the unit down the road.
Intel continues to be challenged. It still has a solid position in PCs, but it’s struggled to make ******* inroads in the fast-growing data center market. The delay of its Clearwater Forest CPUs for data centers, which use its new 18A technology, is a big disappointment. This likely pushes back the chance of the company regaining data center CPU market share until at least next year. Meanwhile, the delay likely helps rival Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD), which has been taking share in data center CPUs.
Intel’s foundry business remains a drag, as it continues to rack up losses and drain cash flow due to its heavy capex costs. However, these are real assets it is buying, and the unit is a hidden value within the company.
Turning to valuation, Intel trades at a forward price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of 16 based on 2025 analyst estimates. However, its foundry losses obscure the lower valuation of Intel’s underlying core business. In 2024, Intel’s product segment generated $13.1 billion in operating income, which would equate to EPS of about $2.27 (assuming a 25% tax rate and 4.33 billion shares). As such, its core business is trading at about 8.6 times 2024 core EPS.
Meanwhile, in just the last three years, it has spent $74.5 billion in capex, mostly on its Foundry unit. If you subtract Intel’s net debt from that, this unit can be valued at $10.50 per Intel share based on the value of its physical assets minus debt. Its stakes in Mobileye and Altera also have some value.
Thus, while Intel continues to have its fair share of struggles, I do think there’s still some good hidden value with its share price at current levels that it may be able to unlock in the near future.

Jim Jordan backs Elon Musk’s authority to cut federal government
Jim Jordan backs Elon Musk’s authority to cut federal government
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) vehemently defended Elon Musk and his so-called Department of Government Efficiency’s campaign to slash federal spending — and declined to endorse the idea that Musk was stepping on Congress’ power of the purse.
“It’s interesting,” Jordan said on CNN’s “Inside Politics” on Sunday. “No one wants to defend the waste, fraud and abuse, so they attack the guy who’s exposing all the waste, fraud and ridiculous things we’re spending money on.”
Over the past few weeks, Musk and the DOGE team have zeroed in on the Trump administration’s mission to overhaul federal agencies and reduce staff. Entities like the United States Agency for International Development and Department of Education have been DOGE’s main targets, with Musk referring to USAID as a “criminal organization” on X.
The Trump administration ordered forced administrative leave for over 2,000 employees of the foreign aid agency last week, though a judge issued a temporary block on Friday of the action. Trump has since said he ordered DOGE to look into spending at the Education Department and the Defense Department on Friday.
When pushed by host Manu Raju as to whether Musk should wield so much power, Jordan doubled down on his defense: ”The folks who work for DOGE are federal employees carrying out the will of the executive branch leader, the president of the United States,” he said.
Spending authority in the Constitution (Article 1, Section 7, clause 1) originates with the House. Pressing the issue of legal authority further, Raju asked Jordan: “So, you’re comfortable if he shuts those down without getting congressional approval?”
“Well, Congress will be involved at some point,” said Jordan, the current chair of the House Judiciary Committee.
In reaction to North Dakota Sen. Kevin Cramer’s comments about the need for guardrails on Musk, Jordan said “I think the guardrails are you all in the press who are talking about it every day.”
He added: “I do think what Elon and his team are doing, at the request, at the urging of the president — and it’s something that he campaigned on. And It’s something that people evaluated and voted for on November 5.”

McDonald’s Corporation (MCD) Among the Best Stocks to Buy for Financial Stability
We recently published a list of 10 Best Stocks To Buy For Financial Stability. In this article, we are going to take a look at where McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) stands against other best stocks to buy for financial stability.
Investing in stocks is one of the most effective ways to build long-term financial stability. While stocks can be volatile in the short term, history has shown that they generate higher returns over time compared to other asset classes. With the right strategy, investing in stocks can help individuals accumulate wealth, hedge against inflation, and secure a comfortable retirement. Stocks have historically outperformed other investment vehicles, such as bonds and savings accounts. According to data from the S&P 500, the stock market has delivered an average annual return of about 10% before inflation over the past century. In contrast, bonds have yielded around 5–6%, while traditional savings accounts provide returns of less than 1% annually. Recent studies reinforce this trend. A 2024 report from JP Morgan Asset Management found that over any 20-year *******, the likelihood of losing money in the stock market is close to zero. Even with market downturns, those who stay invested tend to see significant growth.
Read more about these developments by accessing 10 Best AI Data Center Stocks and 10 Buzzing AI Stocks According to Goldman Sachs.
The power of compounding is a key reason why investing in stocks enhances financial stability. The earlier an individual starts investing, the greater the impact of compounding. For example, if an investor puts $5,000 annually into an index fund earning 8% per year, they would accumulate approximately $1.3 million over 40 years. This long-term growth potential allows individuals to plan for major life events, such as purchasing a home, funding education, or retiring comfortably. The US Federal Reserve reports that individuals with investment portfolios of at least $100,000 are significantly more likely to achieve financial security than those relying solely on savings. While stocks can be volatile, diversification helps reduce risk. A well-balanced portfolio containing stocks from different sectors, as well as international investments, can mitigate losses during market downturns.

McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) operates and franchises McDonald’s restaurants around the world. In the third quarter of 2024, consolidated revenues for the firm reached nearly $6.9 billion, marking a 3% increase over the prior year. In early February, CNBC reported that McDonald’s (NYSE:MCD) was bringing the iconic Uncle O’Grimacey back to promote the Shamrock Shake. The Shamrock Shake, a seasonal staple for more than 50 years, returns to US restaurants annually before St. Patrick’s Day. The milkshake comes back in mid-February, and this year, 25 cents of every Shamrock Shake ***** will go toward the Ronald McDonald House Charities.
Overall, MCD ranks 9th on our list of best stocks to buy for financial stability. While we acknowledge the potential of MCD as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns, and doing so within a shorter time frame. Miron Muslic: Plymouth Argyle boss opens up on life as a refugee before beating Liverpool
Miron Muslic: Plymouth Argyle boss opens up on life as a refugee before beating Liverpool
It is that belief and commitment that Argyle showed as they upset a Liverpool side who finished top of the Champions League group stage and have a healthy six-point lead at the summit of the Premier League under Arne Slot.
Conversely, Muslic inherited an Argyle side spiralling towards League One.
To add to his tough start, he saw his best defender, Lewis Gibson, and star forward, Morgan Whittaker, leave during the transfer window.
But, just like Muslic’s early life in Austria, the shoots of recovery could well be sprouting under him at Argyle.
Last Saturday, the Pilgrims paid a club record fee for Ukraine defender Maksym Talovierov and came from a goal down to beat play-off contenders West Bromwich Albion 2-1 – a victory that ended a 15-game winless run in the league.
And it is football – and a love of its ups and downs – that has driven Muslic from a child who could not speak the language to a coach so fluent in English that his rousing first speech to Argyle’s players, external has been watched by the best part of four million people on social media.
As a teenage forward, he joined Wacker Innsbruck before a career that took in the top five tiers in Austria and a short spell in Croatia.
He credits the sport with helping him adapt to his new homeland, allowing him to “have the privilege to call not only Bosnia, but also Austria, my home.”
“That’s why football is so important, because it’s universal,” he says.
“Because when you’re on a football pitch or somewhere on the street, it’s not about your name, your last name, it’s not even about your refugee status or not; it’s only about the game.
“Where religion, nationality, is my mother a cleaning lady or a lawyer has no impact, has no influence.
“That’s why we love this beautiful game, and that’s why I always call it ‘the game we love’, and that’s the magic of football.”

Pair of rare ****** wolves caught on camera in Polish forest by wildlife researchers
Pair of rare ****** wolves caught on camera in Polish forest by wildlife researchers
WARSAW, Poland (AP) — Two rare ****** wolves, likely siblings, were spotted on camera crossing a stream in a Polish forest, a conservation organization said Sunday.
The unusual sighting, captured last year on a video camera set up by SAVE Wildlife Conservation Fund Poland project coordinator Joanna Toczydłowska, has prompted the organization to collect ***** (droppings) in the forest in the hopes of learning more about the ****** wolves’ genetics.
“It’s something new and unusual,” Toczydłowska told The Associated Press.
Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox
See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories.
Toczydłowska initially placed the camera to study beavers. When she noticed she was recording wolves instead, she kept the camera there and collected the ****** wolf footage a few weeks ago.
In one clip, a ****** wolf and a gray wolf slowly crossed a stream in the forest, the water nearly up to their bellies, before they leap onto the bank. A second clip, taken last fall, records two ****** wolves and a gray wolf fording the same stream.
Most of the 2,5000 to 3,000 wolves in Poland are gray with red or ****** accents. ****** fur comes from a genetic mutation that was likely in domesticated dogs thousands of years ago. The dark fur is rare in Europe due to a reduced genetic diversity, but at least half of the wolf population has ****** fur in Yellowstone National Park in the United States.
Because wolves travel in families and both ****** wolves were around 30 kilograms (66 lbs) — roughly the size of a ******* shepherd — Toczydłowska said they were likely siblings and roughly a year old. At least one is male.
The conservation organization, which has been monitoring wolves in Poland for 13 years, is not disclosing the forest’s location to keep the wolves safe from poaching and prevent misinformation about wolves from spreading.
Wolves were essentially extinct in Poland by the 1950s, but the population has been reintroduced in recent years, especially in central part of the country in the early 2000s. Toczydłowska and her colleagues teach other the public how to safely live in areas inhabited by wolfpacks.
“For people, it is a new phenomenon,” Roman Gula, head of the organization’s wolf monitoring project, told the AP. “Education is one of our major, major goals.”
The conservation fund announced the sighting last week on Facebook and asked for financial support to pay for the *****’s genetic testing to learn more about the ******-fur mutation.

Dante’s Inferno Remains an Underrated Game 15 Years Later, But It Shouldn’t Stay That Way
Dante’s Inferno Remains an Underrated Game 15 Years Later, But It Shouldn’t Stay That Way
ShwaaMan7m ago(Edited 6m ago)
I think it was a couple of factors,
1. Everyone was anxiously waiting for God of War 3 to release(myself included), so we could see what the Santa Monica Studio were going to accomplish with the mighty PS3.
2. It was such a direct ripoff of the GoW formula right down to the button prompts, (such as clicking L3 & R3 to activate your ultimate) .
Now, of course lots of games borrow and evolve ideas, but this was like a carbon copy with a different skin and not quite as good or pretty.
3. It was cool to look at, it played fine, good artistic design and everything, but our standards were astronomically high after GoW 1 & 2… and it just wasn’t anything to write home about.
That being said, I have been wanting to revisit it for years.

Humphreys boosts Ireland hopes of Test win in Zimbabwe
Humphreys boosts Ireland hopes of Test win in Zimbabwe
Ireland need three more wickets to claim victory in their one-off Test against Zimbabwe and make it three successive wins in the longer format.
Andy Balbirnie’s men head into the fifth and final day in Bulawayo on Monday with the hosts on 7-183, chasing 292.
Four wickets fell as Sunday’s play was curtailed by poor light and bad weather, Ireland left-arm spinner Matthew Humphreys having taken three of them as he celebrated second-innings figures of 4-41.
Humphreys accounted for Brian Bennett (45), captain Johnathan Campbell (33) and Nyasha Mayavo (eight), while Barry McCarthy clean bowled Trevor Gwandu in the first over of the day.
Wessly Madhevere’s maiden half-century formed the fulcrum of the Zimbabwean response but, with another 109 needed by the home team, he will need to add plenty more to his unbeaten 61 to force a tight finish.
Ireland beat the same opponents in their previous Test in Belfast last July and also defeated Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi five months earlier.

I made deliciously fluffy cake in an air fryer, and these 7 tricks will help you do the same in 15 minutes
I made deliciously fluffy cake in an air fryer, and these 7 tricks will help you do the same in 15 minutes
Air fryers are fantastic for preparing treats like chicken wings, bacon, and crispy shrimp, but did you know you can also use one to make deliciously moist cakes? You can, and it’s much quicker and easier than you might expect.
You don’t need to use a recipe specifically designed for air fryers either, provided you make a few tweaks along the way. I made a three-tier air fryer cake using Mary Berry’s Victoria sponge recipe, a classic all-in-one with two eggs, two teaspoons of baking powder, and 9oz / 250g each of butter, caster sugar, and self-raising flour. I baked it in a Cosori TurboBlaze 6L, which is a compact single-drawer air fryer, but any model with a bake mode will work.
If you’ve been considering investing in an air fryer and the thought of quick, tasty cake has sealed the deal, take a look at our roundup of the best air fryers for our top recommendations. All modals are tested for cooking performance, ease of use, and speed of clean-up.
1. Pick the right cake pan (or muffin case)
There are a few common mistakes bakers tend to make when making a cake in an air fryer, but Margaret Rewers, R&D Culinary Supervisor at Cosori offers some recommendations that should help you get better results every time. For example, it’s a good idea to use multiple cake pans when making a cake in an air fryer.
“When making multilayer cakes or standard boxed cake mixes, we’ve found that it’s best to cook them in batches,” says Margaret. “Simply dividing the cake batter into two cake pans and baking them separately yields more evenly baked cakes.”
If you’re making cupcakes or muffins, Margaret recommends using individual cupcake cases rather than a muffin pan. “You can also bake using mini loaf pans in the air fryer, which is great when making banana bread or pumpkin bread,” she adds.
Always use your air fryer’s bake setting, which will have a lower fan speed than other modes (Image credit: Future)
2. Choose the best temperature and mode
“Never bake according to the oven instructions when baking cakes in the air fryer,” warns Margaret. “The temperature difference can range from 25-50F. Time can also differ by about 10-15 minutes. If the box instructions say 350ºF [180ºC], try 300ºF [150ºC].
Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.
“The time it takes to bake a cake in an air fryer depends on the recipe, so it will really vary depending on what type of cake recipe you are using and how much cake batter the recipe yields.”
Mary Berry’s recipe suggested baking the Victoria sponge at 320ºF / 160ºC for a fan oven, so I dropped it to 285ºF / 140ºC, which worked well. Each layer baked in my 6-inch tin was ready in 15 minutes.
Make sure you use your air fryer’s dedicated Bake mode. On the Cosori TurboBlaze 6L, this has a lower fan speed than other settings, ensuring the thin cake batter doesn’t get blown around.
3. Pre-heat the pan
One of the most important things to do when baking a cake in an air fryer is to pre-heat your pan. Otherwise, the top of your cake will heat much faster than the bottom, and you could end up with something overdone on top, but raw underneath. As they say on The Great British Bake Off, nobody wants a soggy bottom. Use your air fryer’s pre-heat setting and put your pan on the crisper plate if you can.
“Baking on top of the crisper plate will ensure that heat gets circulated over and under the cake,” says Margaret. “If you’re using a cake pan with taller sides, then you will need to bake without the crisper plate to ensure the top of the cake doesn’t burn.”
Once your cake pan is pre-heated, grease the inside to prevent your cake sticking (Image credit: Future)
4. Grease well and line
Don’t grease your cake pan before heating it – it might burn. Instead, while it’s pre-heating, either melt some butter in the microwave or grab a vegetable oil spray so you’re ready when it’s up to temperature. I also like to cut out a circle of baking parchment to fit the bottom of the pan.
Once the cake pan is nice and hot, remove it from the drawer using oven gloves, place it on a heatproof mat, and apply your butter or oil, ensuring you get it all the way up the sides. Now drop the circle of baking parchment into the bottom of the pan, if you’re using one. The oil or butter should hold it in place.
5. Add your batter carefully
Once the pan is greased, carefully pour in your cake batter. The heat of the pan might make it start to melt around the edges but don’t worry about it, just continue to pour. You don’t want to take too long over this, because the heated pan will begin to cool.
To make sure your cake is done, poke it in the middle with a metal skewer. If it’s ready, the skewer should come out clean (Image credit: Future)
6. Do the skewer test
When your air fryer’s timer goes off, open the drawer and insert a clean metal skewer into the center of the cake. If the cake is cooked, it should come out clean with no more than a couple of crumbs sticking to it. If in doubt, close the drawer and bake the cake for another three to five minutes before checking again.
If your air fryer doesn’t have a window, resist the temptation to open the drawer early to peek at your cake. If it’s not cooked through, the structure will collapse and it’ll sink in the middle.
7. If at first you don’t succeed…
…fry, fry again. Another advantage of cooking your cake layers one at a time is that it doesn’t matter so much if the first one goes a bit wrong. If your first attempt is a bit too dry, reduce the cooking time a little. If it’s not entirely cooked through, leave it in a little longer, or make each layer thinner by using less batter.
