Trump says Elon Musk is “not gaining anything” with influence in interview ahead of Super Bowl 2025
How USAID dismantling could be a preview
Are the Trump moves to dismantle USAID a preview of the future for other public servants?

President Trump said in pre-Super Bowl interview that he trusts Elon Musk, who has already exerted massive influence at the newly-created Department of Government Efficiency, especially since Musk is “not gaining anything” in the role.
“I wonder how [Musk] can devote the time to it,” Mr. Trump told Fox News. “He’s so into it.”
Mr. Trump sat down with Fox News host Bret Baier at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend before Super Bowl LIX between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. Mr. Trump will be the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl.
Mr. Trump said he was surprised that no previous sitting president had attended and said he thought it would be “good for the country for a president to be at the game.”
The 2025 Super Bowl is in New Orleans, the site of a New Year’s Day car-ramming terrorist attack that left 14 dead. Mr. Trump is expected Sunday to meet with families of the victims, a White House official said.

This gym-beating workouts app finally got me exercising daily
This gym-beating workouts app finally got me exercising daily
I wonder if you’ve read Atomic Habits. It’s a worldwide bestseller that has sold over 20 million copies and appears to have captured the hearts and minds of people from all walks of life. Not sure what I’m talking about? Let me catch you up.
The premise of the book is that good habits are created by making small changes. We’ve all tried to overhaul our lives with grandiose plans to become better people. More often than not, if your experience is anything like mine, those plans fail as quickly as they’ve been created. We need a better model, and Atomic Habits provides it.
This is no more true than in the world of exercise, where it can be difficult to build long-lasting habits and routines that truly make a difference. That’s why I was glad to discover the Seven – 7 Minute Workout app, which makes it possible to do a little bit of exercise daily.
What might seem like a pointless amount actually generates a whole lot of change. Small habits, big changes.
Homescreen heroes
This is part of a regular series of articles exploring the apps that we couldn’t live without. Read them all here.
One of the best things about using this app is that it’s remarkably easy to find seven minutes within almost any day, no matter how busy you are. It could be as soon as you wake up, before you go to bed, or during your lunch break. It’s as simple as firing up the app and following the instructions.
The app centers around a set of exercises and workouts that are designed to provide maximum benefit in the shortest time possible. All available options are nicely laid out in the ‘Workouts’ tab but if you want to create your own customized plan, then the app will help to keep you motivated and engaged. I found it helpful to include a rest day so that there was a natural rhythm to my exercise, but it meant I had to be sure to re-engage the day after!
Each workout has a descriptive introduction followed by a list of exercises that are included. If you don’t like the look of any in particular, then they can be easily removed, or if you’d like the app to take care of this for you, then you’re best off specifying your global preferences.
Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.
For example, I specified that I was experiencing wrist and knee pain, and the app did all the hard work of ensuring I was offered tailored workouts that would consider my limitations.
You’ll be led through the workouts by your chosen digital instructor. There are 12 to choose from, although none of them are anything like having a real human standing in front of you. It’s also not comparable with using YouTube workouts and it’s this lack of a human face that is probably the biggest downside to the app.
That being said, I can’t falter the graphics and animations in terms of clarity. I had no problem understanding what was being asked of me or how long I should be doing each exercise. This was helped by the instructor providing virtual instructions and sound alerts when an exercise was transitioning. Launching workouts from your wrist is possible if you have an Apple Watch.
Beyond the workouts, the Seven app’s biggest attraction is its motivating nature. Features include achievements, daily challenges, and the ability to compete with friends. If you’ve read any number of my Homescreen Heroes pieces, you’ll know how competitive I am. I’m an absolute sucker for anything that gives me rewards.
These take the shape of a ‘streak’ counter and a whole set of ‘badges’ including ‘Abtastic’, ‘Triple Triumph’, and ‘Leg Day’. Being able to visibly see my progress really helped me to not only keep going but also aim for higher goals than I would have naturally shot for.
The Seven app is as ubiquitous as most apps and is available on iOS and Android devices. The free version contains 12 full-body exercises and live group training but lacks the full set of workouts alongside curated workout plans and loyalty perks. For the privilege of those, you’ll need to join the 7 Club, which costs $39.99 / £39.99 per year. That’s significantly cheaper than any gym membership, so it’s well worth consideration.
Download the Seven – 7 Minute Workout app, then you can download it now on iOS or Android.

Chicken Soup Recalls That Affected Millions
Chicken Soup Recalls That Affected Millions
Across the U.S., people love chicken soup for many reasons. It’s comforting, tasty, and guaranteed to warm you up on a cold, winter’s day or when you’re sick with a cold or the flu. Research suggests that chicken noodle soup, in particular, is an American favorite, closely followed by flavors like chicken and mushroom and cream of chicken. While it may feel nourishing and cozy, chicken soup is not always the safest choice. And that’s because, on rare occasions, manufacturers release soup products onto the market that are mislabeled and contain undeclared allergens, like milk, egg, and pork.
Undeclared allergens is not the only issue that has faced the soup market. Once, products contained bits of glove (yes, seriously). On other occasions, soups have been sold without being inspected by the necessary authorities beforehand. But don’t panic: When these issues happen, manufacturers, government authorities, and soup brands are often quick to act by issuing urgent recalls. Below, we’ve listed some of the biggest recalls in chicken soup history. From small brands to the big names (like The Campbell Soup Company and Progresso), it seems no one is immune from a mix-up or an accident in the soup factory.

Aunt Kitty’s Recalled More Than 15,700 Pounds Of Canned Chicken Pot Pie Soup Over Undeclared Soy (2023)

In 2023, New Jersey producer Aunt Kitty’s Foods recalled more than 15,700 pounds of chicken pot pie soup cans, sold under the Hanover brand, because they contained soy that had not been declared on the label. Soy is an allergen that primarily affects children, although it can affect adults, too. If consumed by an individual with an allergy, the chicken soup could result in mild to severe allergic reactions, and even life-threatening anaphylaxis.
Undeclared allergens are one of the leading causes of food recalls in the U.S. Soy, specifically, has been the cause of nummerous food recalls over the years. In 2021, for example, protein powder was pulled from the shelves of Whole Foods amid fears it contained soy that was not declared on the label. In the same year, Nestlé recalled more than 27,000 pounds of pepperoni pizzas sold through its subsidiary DiGiorno for the same reason.
Also in 2021, around 4,550 bags of Quaker Oats’ Quaker’s Rice Crisps were recalled because, once again, they contained soy that had not been appropriately declared. At the time of the recall, cans of Aunt Kitty’s chicken pot pie soup had already been sent to retailers in five states: Texas, Virginia, Maryland, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. Luckily, there were no reports of allergic reactions to the soup.
More Than 13,500 Pounds Of Chicken Noodle Soup Were Recalled Due To Lack Of Federal Inspection (2023)

Also in 2023, ********* food company BCI Foods was forced to recall more than 13,500 pounds of chicken noodle soup. This time, it was not due to undeclared allergens or any form of contamination, but because the products had not been reinspected by the U.S. authorities before they were shipped to California, Michigan, Minnesota, and Tennessee.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) — part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) — must inspect any imported products containing either meat, poultry, or eggs. This ensures that the products meet all the U.S. requirements for animal disease risk and labeling. The FSIS was informed that BCI Foods had not presented the soup for inspection by an import broker — a company or individual who works with brands to ensure that their products meet federal guidelines.
Anyone who had already purchased the chicken noodle soup, which was sold under the Tasty Kitchen label, was urged to either dispose of it or return it to the store they bought it from. BCI Foods isn’t alone. In 2021, more than 2,200 pounds of Avanza Pasta products, including ravioli and tortellini, were recalled because they contained meat and poultry that had not been inspected by the FSIS.
More Than 16,400 Pounds Of Chicken And Rice Soup From Unilever Recalled Over Undeclared Milk (2022)

In 2022, Texas food manufacturer MSI Express recalled more than 16,400 pounds of chicken and rice soup as they contained milk that had not been declared on the packaging. The soup products were manufactured for the soup brand Knorr, that is owned by the global food giant, Unilever.
The undeclared milk in the Knorr soup was found when MSI Express conducted allergen testing. There were no reports of illness associated with the recall. This was lucky, because like soy, milk is a common allergen in children. In fact, it is the most common food allergy in babies and young children, affecting about 2.5 percent of those aged under three. However, milk allergies affect older humans, too. Research suggests that up to 1.9% of American adults suffer from a milk allergy.
Again, symptoms of a milk allergy vary in severity. For some, they will be mild but still unpleasant (an itchy mouth, stomach cramps, or a runny nose, for example), but for others, they are very serious and could even be life-threatening (we’re talking anaphylaxis, of course). This isn’t the only time a Unilever brand has had to recall products over allergens. In 2019, Ben & Jerry’s issued a voluntary recall of several ice cream products amid fears they had been contaminated nuts, another allergen that can lead to serious reactions in some individuals.
More Than 6,300 Pounds Of Panera Bread Chicken Tortilla Soup Recalled Amid Concerns They Contained Pieces Of Glove (2021)

In 2021, more than 6,300 pounds of chicken tortilla soup — produced by the Texas company Blount Fine Foods for restaurant chain Panera Bread’s grocery store range — were recalled amid concerns they could contain pieces of glove. Yep, Blount Fine Foods feared pieces of gray nitrile gloves, often worn in manufacturing plants, somehow made their way into the food supply. But the company itself didn’t find the issue—it was alerted to the problem when consumers began informing the FSIS they had discovered glove pieces in their food.
This is far from the first time that a foreign object has spurred a food recall. Although, it’s important to state that finding gloves in a food product is uncommon. Usually, the foreign objects are pieces of metal from machinery (in January 2025, for example, Aldi recalled more than 24,000 pounds of frozen taquitos amid concerns they contained pieces of metal). Rocks and insects are also common causes of foreign object recalls.
All foreign objects in food — including gloves, metal, and rocks — present a choking or internal injury hazard. Anyone who had purchased the Panera Bread chicken tortilla soup was urged to either throw it away or return it to the store they bought it from for a refund.
More Than 15,100 Pounds Of Progresso Chicken Soup Recalled As They Contained Multiple Undeclared Allergens (2020)

Popular soup brand Progresso, owned by the multinational food corporation General Mills, has endured a few controversies over the years. Some have been more lighthearted (see: The recent launch of its Soup Drops, a suckable form of chicken soup), while others have been more serious. In 2020, for example, Faribault Foods, a Minnesota manufacturer, recalled more than 15,100 pounds of Progresso chicken noodle soup as it contained not one, but four allergens that had not been declared on the label.
At the time of the recall, the cans of soup had already been shipped across the U.S. It was consumers, who were discovering meatballs in their cans of soup instead of chicken, who first alerted the FSIS to the mixup. The packaging error meant that the product contained both undeclared milk and soy as well as undeclared beef and pork.
Meat allergies aren’t common, but they do happen and cases are rising. This has been attributed to bites from lone star ticks, which are human-biting ticks that carry a molecule that can lead to alpha-gal syndrome (meat allergies). Research suggests that 450,000 Americans could currently have alpha-gal syndrome as a result of tick bites. Luckily, there were no reports of allergic reactions associated with the Progresso soup mix-up. Once again, consumers who had purchased the soup were urged to not consume it.
More Than 3,300 Pounds Of ********* Soup Recalled From Aldi Because It Was Not Presented For Inspection In The U.S. (2019)

In 2019, BCI Foods was once again caught out for importing a number of products, including chicken soup, into the U.S. without re-inspection from the FSIS. As a result, it had to issue a recall for more than 3,300 pounds of soup that it had already shipped to Aldi locations in New York and Pennsylvania. There were no reports of illness associated with the recall.
This is not the first time Aldi stores have had to recall products. As mentioned above, it had to pull thousands of pounds of frozen taquitos from the shelves. And that’s not all. In 2017, for example, recalled 2,000 packages of frozen peas over concerns they contained Listeria. In 2019, it was implicated in a giant Tyson Foods recall of more than 11.8 million pounds of chicken strips due to metal contamination.
Campbell Soup Company Recalled More Than 4,100 Pounds Of Chicken Soup As They Contained Undeclared Milk (2017)

Without a doubt, the Campbell Soup Company is one of the most popular soup brands in the U.S. In 2020, for example, research suggests that 1.8 million Americans ate five or more products from the company over the year. But this popularity doesn’t make it immune from recalls. In 2017, for example, the company recalled more than 4,100 pounds of Healthy Request chicken soup from stores in Florida because it contained milk that had not been declared on the label.
The problem was discovered by consumers, who, as with the later Progresso recall, found meatball soup inside the cans instead of chicken. As mentioned above, milk is a common allergen and can result in mild to severe reactions. There were no reports of illness caused by the mislabeled soup.
However, this isn’t the first time The Campbell Soup Company has been in hot water over undeclared allergens. In 2002, 15 years prior to the chicken soup mixup, the soup company recalled more than 19,700 cases of tomato soup as they contained undeclared milk and soy. Allergens aren’t the only reason it has issued recalls. In 2015, it recalled 355,000 cans of its SpaghettiOs over fears they could contain plastic. And way back in 1971, the company recalled chicken vegetable soup cans after bacteria linked with botulism was discovered in its factory.
More Than 3,000 Pounds Of Chicken Soup Cans Recalled From Whole Foods Because They Didn’t Contain Chicken Soup (2017)

The Campbell Soup Company wasn’t alone in 2017. In January of that year, Kettle Cuisine — which manufactured products for Whole Foods Markets — recalled more than 3,000 pounds of chicken soup as once again, they didn’t contain chicken soup, but Italian wedding soup with meatballs. At the time of the recall, the products had already been sent to Whole Foods Markets in five states: Connecticut, Maine, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island.
The mixup meant that multiple common allergens were not declared, including milk, wheat, and eggs. The latter is one of the most common allergens in children. While most reactions are mild, they can cause life-threatening anaphylaxis. There were no reports of allergic reactions associated with the Campbell Soup packaging error, which was discovered by a Whole Foods Market employee.
Whole Foods has been caught up in multiple recalls over the years. In 2024, for example, baby carrots were pulled from its shelves over concerns they could contain E.coli, a harmful bacteria that can lead to serious illness. Also in 2024, its cheeses sold under its 365 label were recalled amid fears that they could contain Listeria, another harmful strain of foodborne bacteria.
Victory Kitchens Recalled More Than 4,600 Pounds Of Chicken Noodle Soup As They Came An Ineligible Country (2015)
Shopper holding can of soup – D3sign/Getty Images
In 2015, ********* brand Victory Kitchens had to recall more than 4,600 pounds of chicken noodle soup because they contained chicken from an ineligible country. This means that the chicken supplier was based in a country the FSIS does not deem eligible to ship chicken to the U.S. In this case, that country was Thailand. The chicken noodle soup was not distributed across the U.S. but was instead sent to the United Arab Emirates.
Victory Kitchens isn’t alone. Nearly a decade after this incident, in 2024, California brand Yumei Foods had to recall more than 9,300 pounds of products containing catfish as they were imported from China, which is not eligible to supply this particular fish to the U.S.
In 2023, North Carolina importer Capitology recalled more than 4,600 pounds of pork chicharrones because they were imported from Honduras, which again, is not listed as an eligible country by the USDA. Today, Thailand is eligible to export catfish to the U.S., but it is still not eligible to export chicken products. FSIS currently allows processed chicken to be exported from Canada, Chile, China, Israel, Mexico, Poland, and Korea.
Rustico Foods Recalls More Than 2,600 Pounds Of Soup Due To Lack Of Federal Inspection (2015)
Bowl of chicken matzo soup – Oksana Mizina/Shutterstock
In 2015, Los Angeles brand Rustico Foods recalled more than 2,600 pounds of packaged soup — including chicken matzo ball soup and chicken vegetable soup — because they were produced and shipped to southern California without federal inspection. The recall was issued after the FSIS was alerted to products it did not know had been produced in the first place.
Whether they are carried out on domestic or internationally-produced products, inspections are important. They help to keep the food system safe from many different threats, including foodborne illnesses. This is because the food supply is especially vulnerable to bacteria like Salmonella, Listeria, and E.coli, all of which can cause life-threatening diseases if left unchecked.
In some cases, even harmful parasites can enter into the food supply via contaminated products. In this instance, there were no reports of any foodborne illnesses or any other issues associated with the recall from Rustico Foods. Any individual who had already purchased the products was urged to throw them away or return them instead of eating them.
Conagra Brands Recalled More Than 54,000 Pounds Of Chicken Noodle Soup Due To Undeclared Allergens (2014)
Close-up of can of Healthy Choice chicken noodle soup – refrina/Shutterstock
Conagra Brands, which owns several brands, including Gardein, Reddi-Whip, Birds Eye, and Healthy Choice, has been through more than one recall over the years. One of the worst scandals occurred in 2007, when peanut butter produced through its Peter Pan label was contaminated with Salmonella. In 2024, more than 2.5 million pounds of its canned meat products had to be recalled due to a potentially dangerous packaging defect.
In 2014, Conagra Brands had problems with one of its soup brands: Healthy Choice. The company issued another recall for more than 54,000 pounds of chicken noodle soup that had been shipped nationwide and to the Caribbean. Once again, consumers found a problem in the soup’s packaging label. The two common allergens, wheat and egg, were not declared on the labelling.
Wheat is not just an allergen, it is also a trigger for celiac disease, which is an autoimmune condition with a number of different symptoms that affects around 1% of the U.S. population. There were no reports of illness associated with the packaging error. However, consumers who were concerned about potential reactions were urged to contact their healthcare providers.

Musk calls to impeach judge whose order blocks DOGE from Treasury systems access
Musk calls to impeach judge whose order blocks DOGE from Treasury systems access
Elon Musk has called to impeach a federal judge in New York, Paul Engelmayer, over an order that temporarily restricts the tech centi-billionaire and his DOGE team from accessing U.S. Department of Treasury payment systems and sensitive data.
Over the weekend an outraged Musk posted on X, the social network he owns, calling Engelmayer, “A corrupt judge protecting corruption,” adding, “he needs to be impeached NOW!” He also posted an explanation on X of what he wants to do with the Treasury Department.
Musk and his special government employees, who are part of his DOGE initiative, are tasked by President Donald Trump with finding ways to slash the federal budget, massively reduce the federal workforce, and eliminate as many federal regulations and agencies as possible.
Thus far, Musk’s DOGE team has mostly targeted agencies that use a tiny portion of the overall federal budget, including the foreign humanitarian assistance agency, USAID. DOGE specifically “sought access to the U.S. Department of Treasury payment system to stop money from flowing to the U.S. Agency for International Development,” the Associated Press previously reported.
Engelmayer, a U.S. District Judge appointed by former President Barack Obama, issued an order temporarily blocking DOGE from accessing those systems on Saturday in response to a complaint brought by 19 states’ attorneys general against President Trump, the Treasury and its newly appointed Secretary Scott Bessent.
Musk subsequently posted on X, “This ruling is absolutely insane! How on Earth are we supposed to stop fraud and waste of taxpayer money without looking at how money is spent? That’s literally impossible! Something super shady is going to protect scammers.”
In response to Musk’s remarks, New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin, who is among the plaintiffs in the case, told CNBC via e-mail, “What’s shady is a tech billionaire breaking the law to try to steal millions of Americans’ sensitive data.”
The attorneys general from 19 states argued in their complaint that President Trump failed to “faithfully execute the laws enacted by Congress,” in giving Musk and his team unparalleled access to the treasury’s computer systems and taxpayers’ sensitive data stored or processed in them.
After the order was issued, Musk shared a post from a follower on X who suggested DOGE should defy the court’s order.
On Sunday, Vice President JD Vance, who is a Yale-educated attorney, posted on X that in his view, “If a judge tried to tell a general how to conduct a military operation, that would be ********. If a judge tried to command the attorney general in how to use her discretion as a prosecutor, that’s also ********. Judges aren’t allowed to control the executive’s legitimate power.”
New Jersey Attorney General Platkin said, via an e-mailed statement, “We absolutely expect the defendants to comply with the order, which the court issued in light of the egregiously ******** actions at issue and the enormous risk they pose to cybersecurity and privacy. Our nation is built on the rule of law, and we intend to pursue it to the maximum extent to protect our residents.”
According to legal scholars, the judiciary historically has been able to restrain the executive branch from violating the Constitution and other laws.
Joyce White Vance, a law professor at the University of Alabama School of Law and legal analyst for NBC News, wrote in an e-mail on Sunday: “The Constitution and our rule of law tradition are set up so that the courts have jurisdiction to consider the scope of power possessed by the executive branch (the president), when his actions are challenged. That’s why we are seeing groups of state AGs go to court to challenge whether Trump has legal authority to take steps like canceling birthright citizenship, suspending Congressionally authorized spending, and sending DOGE out to federal agencies.”
She noted that “centuries of precedent establish the role of the courts in checking overreach by the executive branch,” including cases like Youngstown Sheet & Tubing Company v. Sawyer, where the U.S. Supreme Court refused to let President Harry S. Truman take over U.S. steel mills during the Korean War.
Marin K. Levy, professor of law at Duke Law School, told CNBC via e-mail on Sunday: “The State Attorneys General and the judge in this case were all acting well within their authority. What we saw here was the judicial system working as it is supposed to.”
She also emphasized what the court decided yesterday was not a final ruling on the merits of the case. Rather, the court has granted a request for emergency relief (also known as TRO, or temporary restraining order) by the attorneys general. The professor explained, “This is done in cases in which there is concern that irreparable harm will occur before a court can even decide the merits of the case. And now another judge will decide the merits.”
Musk has repeatedly accused judges of corruption, ******** or suspicious conduct after he was displeased with their orders or opinions.
For example, he lashed out at Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick in the Delaware court of Chancery, after she found Musk’s 2018 Tesla CEO compensation package, worth tens of billions, had been granted illegally and must be rescinded.
He also repeatedly lashed out at the head of Brazil’s Supreme Court, Justice Alexandre de Moraes, as the country pushed X (formerly Twitter) to comply with its social media regulations. After months of legal battles there, and posts denigrating de Moraes on X, Musk acquiesced to the court’s demands, paid fines and complied with Brazilian laws.
The case impacting Musk’s access to treasury data and computer systems is State of New York, et al v. Donald Trump, et al in the Southern District of New York (Case 1:25-cv-01144-JAV). Read the judge’s order here.

Chelsea keep quad bid alive with Women’s FA Cup rally
Chelsea keep quad bid alive with Women’s FA Cup rally
Quadruple-chasing Chelsea have come from behind to defeat Everton 4-1 and reach the quarter-finals of the Women’s FA Cup.
Four days after booking their spot in the League Cup final, Sonia Bompastor’s Women’s Super League leaders ultimately eased through to the last eight on Sunday.
It was Everton who took the lead, with Sara Holmgaard finding the net in the 17th minute.
By half-time, Chelsea were ahead, though, thanks to a penalty from Catarina Macario and a stoppage-time goal from Mayra Ramirez.
Maika Hamano extended the advantage in the 71st minute before another penalty in stoppage time, this time converted by Sandy Baltimore.
Liverpool left it late to end the challenge of third-tier Rugby Borough, battling to a 2-0 victory.
Marie Hobinger finally broke the deadlock with six minutes remaining and Mia Enderby added a second two minutes into stoppage time.
It was a similar scenario for WSL basement side Crystal Palace against Newcastle, with Ashleigh Weerden and Abbie Larkin both scoring in the final 10 minutes of their 2-0 win.
London City are flying high in WSL 2 but they could not cause a huge upset against Arsenal. The Gunners, with Matildas stars Kyra Cooney-Cross and Caitlin Foord on deck, were another side to win 2-0 thanks to goals from Laia Codina and Stina Blackstenius.
*********** Mary Fowler played in Manchester City’s 3-1 victory over WSL strugglers Leicester.
Leila Ouahabi and Kerolin put the home side two up at half-time and Khadija Shaw added a third just before the half-hour mark. Nelly Lasova scored a consolation for Leicester eight minutes from time.
Sunderland are the only non top-flight side left in the competition after beating fellow WSL 2 outfit Portsmouth 2-0.
Jenna Dear and Emily Scarr both scored late in the first half, while Portsmouth ended the match with 10 players after Scarlett Williams was sent off.

Albanian criminal’s deportation halted over son’s distaste for chicken nuggets
Albanian criminal’s deportation halted over son’s distaste for chicken nuggets
An Albanian criminal was allowed to stay in Britain partly because his son will not eat foreign chicken nuggets, The Telegraph can reveal.
An immigration tribunal ruled that it would be “unduly harsh” for the 10-year-old boy to be forced to move to Albania with his father owing to his sensitivity around food.
The sole example provided to the court was his distaste for the “type of chicken nuggets that are available abroad”.
As a result, the judge allowed the father’s appeal against deportation as a breach of his right to a family life under the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), citing the impact his removal might have on his son.
The case, revealed in court documents, is among a record 34,169 outstanding asylum appeals. The number represents a five-fold increase in two years from the 6,386 appeals outstanding at the same point in 2022.
The legal challenges, largely on human rights grounds, threaten to hold up Labour’s efforts to fast-track the removal of thousands of migrants with no right to remain in the ***.
They also risk undermining the Government’s efforts to appear tough on immigration in the face of the rise of Reform.
The revelations come as the Government launches a campaign to counter claims that Britain is a soft touch for migrants by announcing the results of a blitz on ******** working.
Data to be published on Monday show there were 609 arrests last month for ******** working, 73 per cent up on January 2024, and a 48 per cent rise in raids from 556 to 828.
The Home Office will also publish pictures and videos of migrants being deported from the *** and forcibly placed on planes.
It comes as both Labour and Tories are trying to head off the electoral threat from Nigel Farage’s Reform ***, whose hardline “freeze” on non-essential immigration and turn back the boats plan has helped his party overtake both Tories and Labour and top the latest opinion polls.
Commenting on the chicken nuggets case, Robert Jenrick, the shadow justice secretary, said it was “mind-boggling” that food was being used as an argument to prevent deportation.
“It’s ludicrous that a judge would entertain it. Cases like this make us a laughing stock.
“It’s an insult to the British public that our immigration laws are being abused in such an outrageous way,” he said.
Chris Philp, shadow home secretary, said: “This case shows how bogus asylum seekers and foreign criminals are ruthlessly exploiting human rights laws and weak judges to stay in the *** when common sense clearly shows they should be kicked out.”
Sir Keir Starmer and his Attorney General have said that they will not withdraw from the ECHR and that the Government is committed to upholding the rule of international law.
Albanian Klevis Disha, 39, came to the *** illegally in February 2001 as a 15-year-old unaccompanied child. He used a false name and falsely claimed to have been born in the former Yugoslavia.
Although his asylum claim was rejected, he secured *** citizenship in 2007 after being granted exceptional leave to remain, and then indefinite leave to remain.
He met his partner, another Albanian who had gained *** citizenship, in 2006, with whom he had two daughters and a son.
However, in September 2017, he was jailed for two years after being caught with £250,000 cash, known to be the proceeds of crime.
Dame Priti Patel, then home secretary, ordered he should be deported to Albania and stripped of his *** citizenship as it had been acquired through deception.
Disha appealed and was backed by a judge at a lower-tier immigration tribunal. The judge ruled that it would be “unduly harsh” for his 10-year-old son – known only as C – to remain in the *** and be separated from his father, or to be forced to go with him to Albania.
The case centred on C’s “additional” needs, which were supported only by evidence from a ******** educational psychologist for whom, the court noted, no CV had been supplied, as well as evidence from a neighbour and a family friend.
The court was told there was no formal diagnosis of special educational needs for the boy, but he did have an educational plan to deal with his “emotional regulation, independence; reading and writing.”
Child has difficulties with socks
Disha’s lawyers said that the needs of C, whose first language was Albanian, also included “sensory difficulties” with some clothing, such as socks in particular, and certain types of food which meant he would seize up and “refuse to do anything.”
Disha’s appeal was granted. However, a judge in the upper tribunal disagreed with the assessment that his additional needs could not be met if he was returned to Albania.
The judge, David Merrigan, said the only example of why the boy could not go to Albania was that he “will not eat the type of chicken nuggets that are available abroad”.
“We are not persuaded that the addition of this sole example approaches anywhere near the level of harshness for a reasonable judge to find it to be ‘unduly’ so,” he said.
He remitted the case to be reheard by a different judge in a lower tribunal to decide the “sole issue” of whether the consequences of deportation would be unduly harsh on the 10-year-old boy. The case is ongoing.
A Home Office spokesman said: “Foreign nationals who commit heinous crimes should be in no doubt that we will do everything to make sure they are not free on Britain’s streets, including removal from the *** at the earliest possible opportunity.
“Since the election, we’ve removed 2,580 foreign criminals, a 23 per cent increase on the same ******* 12 months prior.”

Drivers targeted in emerging crime trend have one thing in common
Drivers targeted in emerging crime trend have one thing in common
Texas law enforcement issued a word of warning to Ford F-series truck owners after they broke up an organized crime ring targeting the popular vehicle model.
Three Texas men are facing charges for allegedly stripping the taillights off dozens of high-end Ford trucks, indicating a new trend of vehicle thefts that has owners on high alert.
Jimmy Dean Miller, Jaleel D. Fasion and Sergio Giovanni Sanfilippo are charged with engaging in organized criminal activity after police say the trio stole over $92,000 worth of taillights.
The ring operated between September 2024 and January 2025, targeting 34 victims, according to the Webster Police Department.
Ford Spotlights A New Lineup Of Popular Trucks
From left, Sergio Giovanni Sanfilippo, Jimmy Dean Miller and Jaleel D. Fasion are charged with engaging in organized criminal activity after dozens of Ford trucks were targeted for taillight thefts throughout Texas.
Miller, Fasion and Sanfilippo traveled throughout the I-45 highway corridor between Houston and Galveston, according to authorities. Officers relied on surveillance to track the suspects as they entered high-traffic areas, ultimately establishing probable cause for the arrests.
Read On The Fox News App
Most of the vehicles targeted by the three men were F-350s, according to police. The latest models of the trucks can cost more than $100,000.
“We found that taillights from luxury Ford vehicles were being stolen,” Webster Police Chief Pete Bacon told Fox News Digital. “We believe the reason is that these taillights contain specific sensors, and these sensors are part of the entire [luxury] system and cost a lot of money.”
Once thieves have access to the tailgate of a vehicle, they can remove the lights by simply unscrewing them from the truck, making off with the loot within a matter of seconds.
“If they have two or three guys working in conjunction, they can get these lights removed in under a minute,” Bacon told Fox News Digital.
Man Named ‘Optimus Prime’ Arrested For Auto Theft: Texas Police

Bacon believes that the taillights were being sold online to truck owners who are looking for replacements but may not want to pay retail price. The investigation revealed that the trio sold the stolen parts on sites such as Facebook Marketplace, with one victim possibly purchasing his own *********** back, police said.
Bacon encourages drivers to take precautions to protect their vehicles.
Drivers can purchase aftermarket tailgate locks or scratch a series of numbers into the inside of their taillights, making them identifiable if they are stolen, according to Bacon. Truck owners should consult their truck’s dealership to ensure any security measures do not impact their warranty.

Ford did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
Court records indicate that the three men are facing criminal charges for the thefts. Fasion is charged but has been released from custody and Sanfilippo is currently out on bond.
A magistrate judge ruled that no probable cause was found in Miller’s case, but prosecutors are planning to refile the charges through a grand jury, the district attorney’s office told Fox News Digital.
The Webster Police Department worked with the Galveston County Auto Crimes Task Force, League City Police Department and Seabrook Police Department to apprehend the suspects.
Ford F-350s have been common targets of thieves, police said.
Bacon warns that although this began as a regional issue, there is a likelihood of copycat criminals and truck owners should take precautions to protect their vehicles.
“Once a group of thieves figures out what kind of niche they’re going after, then we’ll probably have more,” Bacon said. “There’s going to be other rings out there targeting taillights. I don’t think with these three arrests, that this problem is going to end.”

Significant snowfall is possible for Peoria this week. Here are details on the forecast
Significant snowfall is possible for Peoria this week. Here are details on the forecast
Peoria is in line for the biggest snowfall of the winter, with three or more inches possible midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, snow is forecast for Wednesday in Peoria, with accumulation beginning to pick up after noon and continuing into the evening.
Chuck Schaffer, a NWS meteorologist, said that while no set accumulation amounts are available as of Sunday, he did note that much of Illinois from the northwest corner of the state to Interstate 70 may be in line for significant accumulation.
“As of right now, it looks like areas from I-55 northwest towards the Illinois River and up into northwest Illinois is in line for higher accumulation,” Schaffer said. “I would note that any subtle shift in the track of the storm could change that location as we head into the next few days.”
Schaffer said that a low-pressure system currently developing over the western United States will shift eastward toward the southern Great Plains and the Ohio Valley Wednesday, with snowfall expected for many areas north of that system.
“It’s not particularly deep for this time of year, but there is enough moisture with the system that it looks like it’ll produce a pretty widespread area for accumulation of snow,” Schaffer said.
The weather service says that an area between I-74 and I-55, including Peoria and Springfield, has a greater than 70% of seeing three or more inches of snow as of Sunday morning. The biggest impact will likely be felt Wednesday afternoon, with commuters likely to see snow-covered roadways as they head home from work.
“It does look like Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night, people could expect some snow-covered roadways (and) slow travel,” Schaffer said. “So if conditions continue to look like this, people might want to delay plans or certainly practice safe winter weather driving as far as allowing plenty of extra time, letting people know when they’ll be traveling and taking it careful on the roadways.”
If snowfall meets early projections, it will almost certainly be the largest of the winter so far, with the Peoria area having avoided major snowstorms earlier in the season. When many areas to the south received larger amounts in January, only two inches fell in Peoria.
Snowfall is possible multiple days this week, with a minor event set for Monday night into Tuesday morning and a potential wintry mix Friday night into Saturday.
“It looks like another system coming through late Friday through the day Saturday,” Schaffer said. “It looks similar to the one we’re watching midweek, so it’s the kind of system that can produce some winter weather impact, although at this point, we don’t know if that will actually occur because the margin of error is pretty large.”

Two cup exits in a week add to pressure on Postecoglou
Two cup exits in a week add to pressure on Postecoglou
Two cup exits in a three-day span have left Tottenham staring at the prospect of another trophyless season and manager Ange Postecoglou facing the biggest crisis in his time at the club.
A 2-1 loss at Aston Villa in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Sunday came on the heels of an exit from the English League Cup semi-finals after a 4-0 second-leg thrashing at Liverpool on Thursday.
With Tottenham languishing in 14th place in the Premier League, the team’s only chance of a first piece of major silverware since 2008 lies in winning the Europa League. Spurs have advanced to the last 16 of the second-tier European competition.
In September, Postecoglou put pressure on himself by saying in an interview: “I don’t usually win things, I always win things in my second year (with a team). Nothing’s changed.”
He was referring to spells at *********** clubs South Melbourne and Brisbane Roar, Japanese side Yokohama F. Marinos, Scottish giants Celtic and also with the Australia’s national team, who won the Asian Cup in his second year as coach.
Postecoglou has only a few months left of his second campaign at Tottenham, where he started so promisingly – the team was undefeated and top of the Premier League after 10 games of his first season – but has imploded, leaving question marks over the ***********’s style of play.
Tottenham has been ravaged by injuries this season as the games came thick and fast in a number of competitions, and at least now has gaps in the schedule for more rest before recovering key players like Cristian Romero, Dominic Solanke and Micky van der Ven.
“This group of players has done an unbelievable job for two and a half months. An unbelievable job,” Postecoglou said. “Can’t praise them highly enough for the effort they’ve put in — a small group of players playing twice a week since the middle of November.
“They will get some opportunity to recover now, we’ll get some players back over the next couple of weeks and we’ll look forward to resetting and finishing the season strongly.”
Postecoglou will hope for more goals from Mathys Tel, a 19-year-old French forward who joined on the last day of the winter transfer window and scored a late strike against Villa to set up a tense finale.
Ultimately, Tottenham was undone by a big error from goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, who let a shot from Jacob Ramsey squirm through his grasp after just 57 seconds. Morgan Rogers added a second for Villa in the 64th.
“Wasn’t a great start — it’s the last thing you want,” Postecoglou said. “That gave them some momentum for the first 45 minutes and we struggled to get some control.”

Civilization 7 – VR heading out in spring
Civilization 7 – VR heading out in spring
After a long time of holding onto a concept that could feasibly work in the VR space, Firaxis has announced Sid Meier’s Civilization 7 – VR. No, it’s not developed by Firaxis itself.
On the Meta blog, it was revealed the game will be launching on the Meta Quest 3 as well as 3S and will support mixed reality or entirely virtual, placing you in front of a Command Table with the world laid out in front of you. Virtual reality will mean you’re transported to an “ornate museum” while mixed will adapt to your real-world surroundings.
Additionally, you don’t have to play alone, with Civilization 7 – VR allowing you to compete to rule the world in online multiplayer with up to three other Quest 3 and 3S users. Oh yeah, and the game is developed by a different team, that being The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and Meta Horizon Worlds developer, PlaySide Studios.
Non-VR Civ 7 is available to those who purchased into early access, with Firaxis promising better UI, more co-op functionality, more maps, and other stuff following player feedback. Meanwhile, regular players will have to wait until February 11.
Civilization 7 – VR releases sometime in spring 2025 to Meta Quest 3 and 3S.

Vice President JD Vance is set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the Munich Security Conference next week, CBS News has learned.
Zelenkyy is leading Ukraine’s delegation at the annual security conference beginning Feb. 14. Vance is also set to attend. The New York Post first reported on the planned meeting.
The planned meeting comes as President Trump told reporters Friday in the Oval Office that he “may meet” with the Ukrainian leader in Washington, D.C., in the days ahead.
“I will probably be meeting with President Zelenskyy next week and I will probably be talking to President Putin,” Mr. Trump said.
“I’d like to see that war end,” Mr. Trump added. A meeting between Mr. Trump and Zelenskyy has not been scheduled.
Last week, a Ukrainian delegation held meetings at the State Department with Ukraine-Russia envoy Gen. Keith Kellogg.
Mr. Trump has repeatedly pledged to bring an end to the war between Ukraine and Russia, which began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. Meanwhile, Mr. Trump last week suggested that future military aid to Ukraine could be dependent on Kyiv trading its rare minerals, saying “we want a guarantee.”
“So we’re looking to do a deal with Ukraine where they’re going to secure what we’re giving them with their rare earth and other things,” Mr. Trump said.

Beavers finish seven-year dam project in two days
Beavers finish seven-year dam project in two days
A colony of beavers has saved the Czech government almost £1 million after completing a stalled dam project themselves.
Despite a seven-year planning process and successfully securing the funding, the Czech Republic’s plans to build a new dam in the Brdy region came to a standstill as authorities struggled to acquire building permits.
However, it was the arrival of eight hard-working beavers that finally got the job done.
Speaking to Radio Prague, Jaroslav Obermajer, head of the Central Bohemian office of the Czech Nature and Landscape Protection Agency, said: “Beavers always know best.”
Using their powerful incisors, the semi-aquatic rodents fell trees to create wetland areas – known as ‘beaver ponds’ – which they then use as sources of food and protection from predators.
Ecologists tasked with inspecting the dams built by the beavers say they will last a long time – BRDY
The human project had aimed to restore the area to its natural state, decades after soldiers at a military base built a bypass gully which had drained the area.
According to the Brdy Protected Land Administration (PLA), which was managing the human project, the beavers constructed dams in almost the same spots that constructions were planned.
“The Military Forest Management and the Vltava River Basin were negotiating with each other to set up the project and address issues regarding ownership of land. The beavers beat them to it, saving us CZK 30 million (£994,000),” said Bohumil Fišer, the Brdy PlA chief. “They built the dams without any project documentation and for free.”
Mr Obermajor added: “The places where they build dams are always chosen just right — better than when we design it on paper.”
Ecologists tasked with inspecting the dams have said they will last a long time and create good conditions for the rare stone crayfish, frogs, and other species that thrive on wetlands.
“We are already seeing the emergence of a small pond and surrounding wetland there,” the PLA said in a statement, adding that the eight beavers were still hard at work creating new wetlands.
‘Ecosystem engineers’
Beavers are “ecosystem engineers” meaning they modify their environment to create resources, and their dams can stretch for miles.
The largest beaver dam recorded is in Wood Buffalo National Park in Canada, stretching the length of seven football fields – so big it is even visible from space.
In another case, when beavers built dams on the property of a large stormwater treatment facility in Oregon, scientists discovered that the animals’ structures were able to filter out heavy metals and other pollutants about twice as effectively as the human-built structures.
In 2023, California introduced a beaver-assisted restoration programme so the animals could create a healthy ecosystem for other animals, replenish groundwater and even provide wildfire protection.
In the ***, where beavers were once hunted to extinction for their fur and a natural secretion called castoreum which is used for perfumes and medicines, they have also now been successfully reintroduced. A trial in Devon between 2015 to 2020 saw the first wild breeding of beavers in 400 years.
“Beaver wetlands are a paradise for many animals and plants. They are stable ecosystems that contribute to the diversity of our landscape,” said the PLA. “Beavers are returning the landscape altered by humans to its natural beauty.”

Jets expected to move on from QB Aaron Rodgers: Sources
Jets expected to move on from QB Aaron Rodgers: Sources
By Dianna Russini, Zack Rosenblatt and Jenna West
The New York Jets are expected to move on from quarterback Aaron Rodgers, league sources tell The Athletic.
When the Jets met with coaching candidates this winter, they discussed what the organization should do with Rodgers. Team co-owner Woody Johnson listened to the feedback from the current coaching staff, which includes newly hired head coach Aaron Glenn, prompting the likely split with Rodgers, the sources said.
Rodgers, 41, has played two seasons in New York that were far from ideal. In April 2023, he came to the Jets in a stunning trade with the Green Bay Packers, where he spent 18 seasons, sparking hope in the Jets fanbase. However, Rodgers tore his Achilles on the fourth play of New York’s season opener that fall, ending his season and beginning a mostly doomed tenure in New York.
The Jets went 7-10 as Rodgers worked to return late in the season, but the team fell out of playoff contention and he remained sidelined.
In 2024, the Jets’ woes went from bad to worse when the franchise fired head coach Robert Saleh after a 2-3 start to the season. They promoted defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to head coach, but he couldn’t spark the struggling Jets, who finished at 5-12 on the year.
Rodgers played all 17 games in 2024 but finished with a 90.5 passer rating, his lowest in any season during which he played at least 15 games. He also had 3,897 passing yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
When asked about his Jets future after the end of the season, Rodgers said the team’s impending coach and general manager hires would be primary factors in the decision.
“I think everybody understands that it’s gonna come down to a GM and a coach and myself and whether we all want to do a dance together or if it’s not in the cards,” Rodgers said in early January.
How did we get here?
It has felt like the Jets and Rodgers were headed for a divorce since long before they hired the new regime of Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey. Rodgers has publicly and privately expressed his discontent with how Johnson handled himself throughout the 2024 season. To Johnson’s credit, despite any ill will he might’ve had for Rodgers taking shots at him publicly, he gave Glenn and Mougey leeway to decide on their own.
If Rodgers was going to return, it was only going to work under a few conditions — namely that Rodgers understood that no player is above the team, even him. If the Jets are fully trying to go in a new direction and build for the future, letting Rodgers go is the most sensible outcome. Rodgers is due a significant roster bonus if he returns, which would make it more expensive to keep him (for 2025 and beyond) than get rid of him.
Rodgers statistically had one of the best quarterback seasons in team history in 2024, though that didn’t tell the whole story — he was wildly inconsistent, is turning 42 in 2025 and doesn’t fit their timeline anymore. Expect wide receivers Davante Adams and Allen Lazard to follow Rodgers out the door. — Zack Rosenblatt, Jets beat writer
What’s next for the Jets?
The options aren’t especially appealing. Veteran Tyrod Taylor and injured 2024 draft pick Jordan Travis are the only quarterbacks on the roster and it’s not considered a particularly strong draft or free-agency class. Former Jet Sam Darnold will be the top free agent and maybe he’d consider returning but that feels unlikely at this juncture. Kirk Cousins will likely break free from the Atlanta Falcons in some fashion but he’s turning 37 and coming off his worst season, benched for Michael Penix Jr.
The Jets could take a swing at somebody like Justin Fields, or trade for Detroit Lions backup Hendon Hooker — who has ties to the Jets coaching staff — but neither option would indicate the Jets should be taken seriously as playoff contenders this season. The Jets have the No. 7 draft pick, which is out of the range of the top quarterback prospects in this class, too. — Rosenblatt
