  1. American Airlines passenger slammed after complaining about first-class seat: ‘Thoughts and prayers’ American Airlines passenger slammed after complaining about first-class seat: ‘Thoughts and prayers’ They wanted her to check her flight privilege. An American Airlines flyer is being ripped online after complaining about her expensive, first-class seat on a flight to Hawaii — which she claimed was absolutely filthy. “This is what a $5,000, first-class flight to Honolulu gets you on American Airlines,” scoffed the unimpressed passenger, named Andrea, in the clip, which currently boasts nearly 800,000 views on TikTok. The Post has reached out to American Airlines for comment. “American Airlines at its finest,” Andrea quipped in the clip. TikTok/andreanotfromtrinidad The passenger started off her impromptu video review, captioned “do better @AmericanAirlines,” by panning to some “disgusting” dust over the air vents. “‘I’m breathing this in for eight and a half hours,” rued Andrea while zooming in on the soot-covered filter. Exhibit B, per the clip, was the storage compartment beneath her seat, which was festooned with crumbs like the bottom of an empty chip bag. Andrea reportedly shelled out $5,000 for the flight. Carlos Yudica – stock.adobe.com “I mean, the cleanliness,” the flyer said sarcastically. She concluded the clip by zooming in on troubling brown stains on her pillow, remarking, “I mean did they wash these?” “American Airlines at its finest,” Andrea quipped at the end. While this might sound like small potatoes in the grand scheme of things, the dissatisfied traveler argued in the caption that “cleanliness is important, regardless of how much you pay for a flight.” Nonetheless, many viewers were less than sympathetic over her so-called first-world, er should we say, first-class problems. Andrea was ripped as entitled by many commenters. TikTok/andreanotfromtrinidad “I don’t know how I’m gonna sleep tonight knowing you had to go through this,” snarked one critic. Another airplane proletarian mocked, “Thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.” “I’m so sorry. Do you need to go to the hospital?” jabbed a third. However, others agreed with Andrea on the grounds that people should get what they pay for. “Yall it’s $5,000… that’s insane. idk why y’all all judging her for not wanting a dirty seat,” said one defender. “Why are people so rude? If you can’t afford first class, move along,” wrote another. “But when you pay for first class, you expect first class! This is not that.” “For some people flying first class may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience they saved up for,” argued a third. “You should have a nice, clean seat regardless.” “As someone who has never flown first class, get your money back,” urged one viewer. “This is worse than economy!” Source link #American #Airlines #passenger #slammed #complaining #firstclass #seat #Thoughts #prayers Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  2. Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Advice For Defeating Dark Souls Bosses Will Come in Handy For Elden Ring Nightreign Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Advice For Defeating Dark Souls Bosses Will Come in Handy For Elden Ring Nightreign Journeying into the world of video games is rather simple. However, Hidetaka Miyazaki always takes it a step further by making sure the player goes above and beyond in order to beat the game. This is something that the fans of FromSoftware’s upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign will possibly be visiting once again. Main Cover for Elden Ring Nightreign | FromSoftware The renowned director time and time again has introduced games that have no business being so incredibly difficult, but the better part about this fact is how he has also often shared tips and tricks to beat these exact games. One of these tips, originally given for Dark Souls, is exactly what Elden Ring Nightreign players will need to understand. Hidetaka Miyazaki and his handy wisdom for Elden Ring Nightreign Hidetaka Miyazaki’s tip for Dark Souls will save the day for Elden Ring Nightreign players | FromSoftware Hidetaka Miyazaki is essentially the master behind FromSoftware’s notoriously difficult Soulsborne games, and he has always believed in making the player suffer through a punishing level design, only to make them feel a great sense of achievement later. Revealing in an interview via IGN, the director shared the following tip for going up against and beating the bosses of Dark Souls. It might sound basic at first, but it is ultimately what has helped players since forever in Souls games and will continue doing so in the upcoming Elden Ring Nightreign. The difficulty is high, but always achievable. Everyone can achieve without all that much technique – all you need to do is learn, from your deaths, how to overcome the difficulties. Overcoming challenges by learning something in a game is a very rewarding feeling, and that’s what I wanted to prioritise in Dark Souls and ******’s Souls. This piece of wisdom remains just as relevant today as it was during the early days of Dark Souls and ******’s Souls. The director has explained how the idea behind this is the concept of trial and error, which is executed with the mask of death within the games. Elden Ring Nightreign: Why you need Miyazaki’s wisdom, skills, and a lot of luck The upcoming game is bringing back many old bosses | FromSoftware The upcoming game is really the first time FromSoftware is going to offer a proper co-op experience set in the Souls world. Borrowing the fundamentals of 2022’s Elden Ring, the director of Nightreign is making sure to use this opportunity to finally break the studio out of its long-stuck loop of Souls video games. For long-time fans of the games released by FromSoftware, Miyazaki’s advice remains as valuable as ever. They know how much the trial and error method is required to study different bosses’ and their moves, which finally allows the player to eliminate them. However, Elden Ring Nightreign would require much more than just a few tips from the director. Seeing how some of the worst bosses from the Souls history, including The Nameless King, The Centipede ******, and Margit, are returning, you need to buckle and make sure you have an extra controller as backup in case you break your main one. 5. Australia relaxed despite Champions Trophy travel mess Australia relaxed despite Champions Trophy travel mess Travis Head says Australia are trying to stay relaxed as they remain in the dark over whether they’ll be playing their Champions Trophy semi-final in either Pakistan or 2000km away in Dubai. The in-form left-hander sounded perfectly chilled following their qualification despite the uncertainty over where, when and against whom they’ll play their last-four contest. The difficulties for both Australia and South Africa, who’ve both qualified from group B, is that they must wait until Sunday evening, following India’s match with New Zealand, to know which of the two teams they’ll be playing. Following the Proteas’ seven-wicket hammering of England on Saturday, the Australians have finished second behind South Africa in group B, and will face the winners of Sunday’s clash in Dubai in the last-four. If that’s New Zealand, then the trans-Tasman rivals will be playing back at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore in Pakistan on Wednesday. But if India, who’ve refused to play in neighbouring Pakistan, emerge victorious, then Australia must take the three-hour flight to the UAE to play the favourites in Dubai on Tuesday, where India have been based all tournament. That means if South Africa and Australia don’t travel to UAE before Monday, they could miss out on their only chance to train at the Dubai International Stadium, where conditions are very different to those they’ve been experiencing in Pakistan. Reports have suggested Australia planned to travel to Dubai on Saturday to be on the safe side – although that would only mean they’ll have to fly back to Lahore on Monday should India lose. The potential travel headache didn’t appear to be fazing the ever laid-back Head, though. “We’ll watch the next couple of days, stay relaxed and then get to work. I guess there’ll be two different scenarios where it could be two different conditions,” he shrugged. “Whether we go to Dubai and play there, which looks like it’s a little bit more more difficult or more challenging pitch than is here (in Lahore). It’s little bit more low-scoring. “So we’ll see how we go.” The situation, though, has again highlighted the uneven playing field of a competition in which India has enjoyed a huge advantage because of the team’s refusal to play in Pakistan on security and political grounds. “If you can stay in one place, stay in one hotel, practice in the same facilities, play in the same stadium, on the same pitches every time, it’s definitely an advantage,” noted Rassie van der Dussen, who guided South Africa to victory and a top-of-the-table spot in the win over England in Karachi on Saturday. “I don’t think you have to be a rocket scientist to know that.” Head, whose unbeaten 59 in the washed-out match against Afghanistan showed he’s in fine nick, shrugs that he believes Australia are equipped to lift the title wherever they play, even with their relatively inexperienced outfit. “Yeah, I feel like we’re playing well. I guess the first point is getting to the semis. I feel like we’ve done an extremely good job with the inexperience that we’ve got in the side,” he said. “It’s huge for us moving forward as well, when you look at what’s to come over the next couple of years with two World Cups around the corner, with guys getting experience in a tournament like this. “This is important, because we’re now into a semi and I think the style that we’re playing, if we continue to keep doing it, there’s no reason why we couldn’t win it.” Source link #Australia #relaxed #Champions #Trophy #travel #mess Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  6. No One is Ready For One Avenger’s Debut in Marvel Rivals That Makes Wolverine Fastball Special a Deadly Ballistic Missile No One is Ready For One Avenger’s Debut in Marvel Rivals That Makes Wolverine Fastball Special a Deadly Ballistic Missile Marvel Rivals has been on a roll lately, with a massively successful Season 1. The update brought with it multiple additions, including bug fixes and optimizations – along with a total of 4 new heroes. The Fantastic Four joined Marvel Rivals in their entirety for Season 1, and developer Netease Games still has a lot more planned for the future of the game. One probable character could, however, tip the scales for Wolverine of all characters – assuming that their interaction is implemented properly. Fan imagines Ant-Man in Marvel Rivals A fan imagines Ant-Man in Marvel Rivals | Image Credit: Netease Games As detailed within a Reddit post on the r/marvelrivals subreddit, Ant-Man could be a very cool addition to Marvel Rivals. This concept comes courtesy of user u/LOOWEEpsd, who has also graciously shared concept art and gameplay stills of the Avenger in action. Of particular interest here, would be Ant-Man’s usage of his powers. After all, the Avenger can shrink down or enlarge himself to gain a tactical advantage during battles, and this could lead to some curious interactions. Wolverine would be a great pair for Ant-Man | Image Credit: Netease Games For example, shrinking down would allow Ant-Man to avoid incoming fire, and slip by unnoticed – at the expense of being stomped on by the enemy team. Conversely, on account of Ant-Man going full Godzilla mode, he would have a lot more physical strength and DPS – at the extreme cost of mobility (and being a large scale target). Admittedly, while impressive, the concept might need a few more tweaks to be implemented in the full retail version of the game – after all, the character must be balanced accordingly so as to not be extremely over or under powered. A great way to deal with this might be to ‘lock’ the character in giant form – where they cannot receive heals or contest in any way possible. Regardless, it’s a fun little concept, and how Netease Games could include the character remains up for speculation. Teaming up with Ant-Man could make Wolverine a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield A team-up with Wolverine could make Ant-Man very popular | Image Credit: Netease Games Character team ups are quite popular in Marvel Rivals, and a shared ultimate with Wolverine might give both characters the edge they need. A great way to have these characters interact with each other, would be to have Ant-Man launch Wolverine at insane throwing speeds toward the target. This ‘fastball special’ would have Wolverine lunging, claws out at the enemy with successive rapid strikes – thereby dealing a ton of damage in the process. This would be a lot similar to the interaction between Hulk and Wolverine currently, but Netease has to (obviously) make a few tweaks in order to differentiate between the two moves. An easy way to deal with this would be to have the team-up have an actual advantage, (given how useless the throw with Hulk currently is) so that players use it a lot more often. To be clear, Wolverine is already pretty deadly on his own, it is just that his team ups are a lot less useful than they should really be. With Ant-Man though, things could change – but only if Netease takes a more tactical approach. The team up needs to be a lot more seamless, and provide buffs to Wolverine in the process – making him even more of a threat than the Weapon X project made him out to be. 9. Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is Going All Out on One Feature From Mirage Assassin’s Creed Shadows Is Going All Out on One Feature From Mirage Ever since its launch, the Assassin’s Creed series has been known for its breathtaking worlds, intricate narratives, and innovative gameplay. Each installment aims to push the limits of technology and storytelling, seeking to deliver a unique experience with every release. The game is set to launch on March 20th. | Image Credit: Ubisoft Even though the road to the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been filled with hiccups and mistakes, it marks the next chapter in the series. It will continue to follow in the footsteps of its predecessor. In an interview, Producer Karl Onnée revealed that the team is focusing deeply on one feature: Stealth. Developers focus on expanding stealth in Assassin’s Creed Shadows The developers aim to refine and expand stealth even further. | Image Credit: Ubisoft While stealth has always been at the heart of the Assassin’s Creed franchise, in an interview with Famitsu, the producer revealed that Shadows aims to refine and deepen these mechanics. Onnée emphasized the game’s ambition to expand on the stealth mechanics that Mirage introduced. To help achieve this, Onnée pointed out that the game uses light and shadow systems, which allow players to engage in stealth in ways never seen before. On top of that, the addition of various tools like grappling ropes, and the ability to go prone further enrich the experience. With Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, we wanted to push stealth even further. We started this journey with Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, but we wanted to take it further with new features. This addition will provide players with more freedom and creativity. Since this is a discussion about Shadows we have to talk about the most exciting part of the title: its setting in the Azuchi-Momoyama ******* of Japan. This backdrop will take players to a historical era that is known for its politics, wars, and cultural exchange, the perfect opportunity to bring new depth to the stealth. While controversial, the addition of two protagonists: Naoe, a shinobi, and Yasuke, a samurai, allows players to experience Japan’s feudal landscape from two distinct perspectives. The dynamic interplay between these two characters will further enhance the stealth-driven narrative. The anticipation for the title is high Fans are looking forward to the release. | Image Credit: Ubisoft Whether you are looking for the release to point out the mistakes the title has made or are genuinely excited to play the Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan, the anticipation for Shadows among the community is high. Despite the two significant delays, the early teasers and insider enthusiasm suggest that Ubisoft has turned the disaster situation into an opportunity. As the release date of March 20th approaches, the excitement has shifted from skepticism to positive anticipation. With new features like a destructible environment, changing seasons, and various new mechanics, Shadows is pushing the boundaries of what the franchise can do. From any perspective, the title marks the beginning of a new era. If Onnée’s words hold true, the already great stealth mechanics of AC Mirage will be refined to new heights, unlocking a level of stealth and techniques never seen in the series. While Yasuke may not be the stealthiest of characters, Naoe will be the one to watch for players eager to embrace the role of an assassin. In the end, with the fusion of deep stealth mechanics, innovative technology, and a rich historical setting, the game is set to take the Assassin’s Creed series in exciting new directions. 10. Alexa Plus needs a flagship smart speaker – here are 5 things I’d like to see in the next Echo Alexa Plus needs a flagship smart speaker – here are 5 things I’d like to see in the next Echo So it’s official: Amazon is finally launching Alexa+, the new AI-infused voice assistant that has been over a decade in the making. It marks the most significant upgrade of Alexa yet, injected with an unprecedented intelligence that brings every aspect of your schedule together in one harmonious place. It’s really quite impressive, but there’s one thing I think it lacks: a flagship Echo speaker. Before Amazon announced Alexa+ at its Alexa event, I, like many others, had my list of expectations ready, and a new Echo speaker was at the top. Considering it’s been five years since its last smart speaker – the Amazon Echo (2020) – a hardware upgrade is more than overdue, but as Amazon’s 70-minute event went by, nothing was mentioned. While it was difficult for me to suppress my disappointment amidst the excitement of the arrival of Alexa+, it’s clear that Amazon is saving its next-gen Echo smart speaker for another date. It’s exciting to think about what Amazon might have planned for that device, and now that we know Alexa+ is on the way, that makes room for major software and hardware upgrades for one of the best smart speakers out there. Having said that, these are the upgrades I want to see in Amazon’s next Echo speaker. An integrated smart screen/ display (Image credit: Amazon) Over the past five years, Amazon has given its undivided attention to its line of Echo Show products, combining the Alexa voice assistant with smart display devices to make the Alexa experience more visual. From the release of the Echo Show 8 to its much larger 21.5 inch Echo Show 21 display, Alexa is becoming increasingly more visual, and it’s about time it came to Amazon’s Echo speaker family. In 2024, Amazon revived its Echo Spot device, which looks like the basic Echo Pop speaker but has a small smart display – but it is not a smart speaker. Therefore, we know that Amazon can implement a smart screen into its next Echo speaker model; the proof is there. When paired with the new Alexa+ voice assistant, the next Echo speaker could be unstoppable. More color options (Image credit: Amazon) Amazon’s color scheme has been translated into the designs of its Echo speakers, and while I love a strong brand image, I also want something that will pop. Though I recognize Amazon’s previous attempts at offering different color options to consumers (take a look at the Echo Pop and the Echo Dot Kids), there’s only so far you can go with ******, white, blue, and grey tones. For the next Echo speaker, I want to see Amazon take a bold leap with the color options. Imagine a sunset orange or a forest green Echo speaker beaming in the corner of your room – now that would make my music listening experiences pop. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. Ambient lighting (Image credit: Getty) Speaking of making the next Echo speaker pop, how cool would it be if Amazon’s next smart speaker model doubled as a speaker and lamp? My social media feed is inundated with interior design videos of apartments with the best ambient lighting I’ve seen, and nothing screams ‘I have my life together’ more than a cozy, warm lamp in the corner of your room. I know that this would be a feature I would certainly take advantage of, and it means that I wouldn’t have to spend a fortune on the best smart lights if I had the ability to alter brightness, warmth, and change colors. Improved audio quality with Dolby Atmos integration The Apple HomePod 2 is a smart speaker that supports Dolby Atmos. I just hope the next Amazon Echo speaker follows suite. (Image credit: Apple) Echo speakers make great smart speakers if you’re not the biggest audiophile and want something that will fill a room satisfactorily. For the past decade, Amazon has honed in on improving the responsiveness of its Echo speakers, reinforcing their role as smart home hubs, but I’d like to see some of that focus shift to enhancing its audio performance. As someone who constantly uses their Echo speaker predominantly for music, be that streaming my favorite albums on Spotify or listening to some good old white noise, I’m always picking up on the imperfections of my speaker’s audio capabilities. One thing I’d like from the next Amazon smart speaker isn’t necessarily a more dynamic volume, but instead fine-tuned vocals and a throbbing, robust bass. Dolby Atmos integration is a no-brainer and a necessity when it comes to the future Echo speaker, which would be a huge upgrade in itself. Non-Fire TV device pairing (Image credit: Amazon) Music streaming and video streaming go hand-in-hand, and as well as a new audio upgrade, the final thing that I and Echo speaker users alike would like to see is compatibility with non-Fire TV devices. This would effectivley make a huge difference for your home theater setup. At the moment, Amazon Echo speakers can connect to third-party devices such as PCs and TVs but through Bluetooth only, which often requires fiddling with the Alexa app. If Amazon introduced an improved compatibility feature with the next-gen Echo speaker, which lets it connect a smart speaker to a non-Fire TV device, the whole experience would be a lot smoother and more direct. 12. Aldermen backed Mayor Johnson’s irresponsible bonds. Investors may be a tougher sell. Aldermen backed Mayor Johnson’s irresponsible bonds. Investors may be a tougher sell. Mayor Brandon Johnson struggled mightily to win approval Wednesday from the City Council to float $830 million in bonds to finance infrastructure work around the city. But win he did after having to cast a tie-breaking vote himself to keep the plan from being returned to the Finance Committee for a needed overhaul. Don’t pop the Champagne corks yet, Mr. Mayor. A tougher audience than our feckless aldermen awaits. Bond investors, most of whom are a pretty sophisticated bunch, will be asked to step up and purchase these securities once the city’s well-compensated investment bankers peddle them. After having witnessed the mayor’s critics on the City Council raise appropriate questions about the city’s weak fiscal standing and then seeing the mayor and his council supporters plunge ahead anyway, those investors will be forgiven if they’re leery of financing the nation’s third largest city when it’s run by such an irresponsible bunch. Likewise, rating agencies — two of which downgraded the city’s credit earlier this year, even before considering this unusually large debt offering — are likely to weigh in on these bonds before they hit the market. Last July, as the Johnson administration prepared to issue $643 million in bonds for capital projects, Standard & Poor’s was sanguine about the outlook for repayment, giving the securities a BBB-plus rating. S&P described the situation then as “stable,” but said that could change if, among other things, the city couldn’t “manage any economic or revenue disruption without experiencing a deterioration in overall credit quality.” Months later, that’s precisely what has happened. The City Council refused last year to hike property taxes at all, the 2025 budget debate dragged well into December, and S&P in January reversed course. It downgraded the city to BBB, two notches above junk-credit status, prompting Chicago Chief Financial Officer Jill Jaworski to complain that the downgrade “does not accurately reflect the strength of the City’s credit.” How much strength, we would ask, does the city display when it plans to delay any repayment of principal or interest on these bonds until 2028 and instead cover the minimum owed over the next few years with … more interest? We might expect ratings agencies to take that fact into account in their assessment. An S&P representative told us he can’t comment on whether the agency has or hasn’t been asked to rate any specific transaction, whether for the city of Chicago or any other issuer. In these pages, we said the mayor should reduce the size of the bond offering and scrap the plan to make no payments for two years. More than one alderman offered amendments to do just that, but this city’s historically unpopular mayor insisted on plowing ahead and managed to cajole 26 aldermen — the slimmest of majorities — to go along. But not before the council aired a bunch of the city’s dirty financial laundry in the debate leading up to that nail-biter of a vote. Surely, rating agencies and investors will consider the back-and-forth on the council floor and how Johnson’s aldermanic supporters defended a repayment structure akin to some of the worst mortgage practices in the lead-up to the 2008 housing ******. Their rationale? The city can’t afford even the few tens of millions in interest-only payments over the next few years because the council won’t hike property taxes and the mayor has categorically refused to cut costs. That should inspire investor confidence! Hey, Mr. and Ms. Bond Investor, this mayor and council — you know, the ones asking you to invest in the future of Chicago — aren’t willing to pay a nickel during the remainder of their terms to cover any part of what the city will owe you over the next 30 years. But surely some future mayor and aldermen will step up. Worry not. This isn’t to predict that the mayor’s finance team won’t ultimately find takers for this wheelbarrow full of debt. Most everything that’s for ***** can be offloaded at some price. But we expect investors will demand higher interest rates than Johnson administration officials now anticipate. As it stands, this repayment structure will end up costing taxpayers $2 billion for an $830 million loan. Don’t be surprised if that $2 billion proves conservative. 15. Andrew Cuomo running for mayor of NYC Andrew Cuomo running for mayor of NYC Andrew Cuomo is running for mayor of New York City, he announced Saturday afternoon. The move comes after Cuomo, who had been considering entering the race, met with his daughters to discuss his possible run. His supporters also filed paperwork to form a super PAC called “Fix the City,” designed to raise $15 million to boost his anticipated campaign. Many Democrats running for NYC mayor It’s a crowded field in the race against incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who is running for reelection despite calls for him to resign or be removed from office over allegations he agreed to cooperate with President Trump’s immigration agenda in exchange for the Department of Justice ordering his criminal charges to be dropped — a claim the mayor and his attorney deny. A recent poll conducted by Tusk Strategies showed Cuomo leading the pack of potential Democratic candidates with 38%, followed by Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani with 12%, Adams with 10% and six others in single digits. Congressman Ritchie Torres, who represents a good portion of the Bronx, came out in support of Cuomo, saying, “When it comes to confronting the crisis of crime, we need not a nice guy, but a tough guy like Andrew Cuomo.” Petitioning to gather signatures goes until April 3, and the primary election will be held in June. Early voting starts June 14 and election day will be June 24. Why did Andrew Cuomo step down as governor? Cuomo, son of former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, served three terms as governor before stepping down in August 2021 over allegations on two fronts. His administration was accused of lying about the number of people who died in state nursing homes during the early days of the COVID pandemic. Cuomo drew national attention with his daily news conferences during the pandemic. While many credited him with taking charge of the situation, he was accused of directing his staff to underreport the number of nursing home deaths by nearly half. He testified before the Republican-led House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic as recently as last fall, where lawmakers referred him to the Department of Justice for possible prosecution. Cuomo has repeatedly said the state was following the latest federal guidelines, and his attorney, in turn, referred the subcommittee to the DOJ for allegedly abusing its power. Cuomo was also accused of ********* harassing nearly a dozen women, including some on his staff. Those allegations ultimately led to his resignation after an investigation from state Attorney General Letitia James’ office found he created a hostile work environment with offensive, suggestive comments and unwelcome, nonconsensual touching. The investigation centered around claims from 11 different women. Cuomo has denied the allegations — at one point attributing his behavior to his Italian heritage — but he ultimately stepped down in the face of an impeachment investigation. His legal team later sued the attorney general’s office and several of his accusers. Check back soon for the latest updates on this developing story. 19. Southern California man violently beaten by mob of teen bicyclists speaks out Southern California man violently beaten by mob of teen bicyclists speaks out A man recalls the terrifying moment he was violently beaten by a group of teen bicyclists in Los Angeles. The incident happened on Feb. 22 as the victim, Maurice Benaim, 28, was driving near San Vicente Boulevard and McCarthy Vista in the Carthay neighborhood near Beverly Hills around 5 p.m. That’s when he spotted a group of 20-30 juvenile bicyclists performing stunts and blocking traffic. When he honked his *****, the crowd appeared agitated. Someone in the group approached his vehicle and broke his tail light while repeatedly kicking his car. That’s when Benaim decided to step out of his vehicle. Cell phone video of the incident showed the mob of teens quickly descending on Benaim as they knocked him to the ground and began brutally punching, kicking and beating him. One of the teen suspects jumped on top of Benaim’s car and began kicking at the windshield, eventually shattering it. Cell phone video captured the moment Maurice Benaim was surrounded by a group of teen bicyclists and violently beaten in a mob-style attack near Beverly Hills on Feb. 22, 2025. (Tyler Johnson) “They kind of surrounded me and I’m just trying to stay conscious,” Benaim recalled. “There was a point where I thought, ‘Okay, this is happening. There’s not much I can do. I’m clearly outnumbered.’ I was just trying to protect my face and maybe cause less head trauma.” Police described the attack as a mob-style beating. As several good Samaritans stepped out of their cars to help the victim, the group of teens fled the scene, leaving Benaim lying unconscious on the road. Benaim said he was left with lacerations, bruises, head trauma, extensive pain, potentially fractured ribs and emotional trauma. “It was so frightening to see all of these boys jump on this guy,” said Chantelle Ameli, Benaim’s attorney. “There was just no reason for any of it, really,” Benaim said. As the victim recovers, he said he’s thankful for the community of support he’s received from his friends and loved ones. “We’re being numbed,” said Yasmile Benaim, the victim’s mother. “We’re being numbed to all of this violence.” She said she hopes the parents of these teenagers consider speaking with their kids about the devastating consequences of violent behavior. “How would you feel if that was your kid who got hurt the way my son was hurt?” she asked the teens’ parents. “It’s a miracle that it didn’t escalate [even further.]” On Friday, Los Angeles police confirmed two juvenile suspects were arrested in connection with the assault. The rest of the suspects, who are all likely between 16-18 years old, remain at large. 23. NRL looking to cash in after ‘brave’ Las Vegas gamble NRL looking to cash in after ‘brave’ Las Vegas gamble The NRL tried its luck in Las Vegas last year, and has come back with more chips on the table this time around. In a matter of hours, the second iteration of rugby league’s Stateside sojourn will be under way at Allegiant Stadium, the state-of-the-art NFL ground that lies east of the Vegas Strip. Organisers are hopeful of welcoming as many as 50,000 fans into the roofed stadium for a day of rugby league unlike any other. Even last year’s maverick first visit to the US was only half the size, with an English Super League match and women’s Test match now joining two NRL fixtures on the playbill. The first of four kick-offs is slated for 1.30pm local time (8.30am AEDT) as Wigan meet Warrington, before Canberra and the Warriors play the first of this NRL season’s 213 matches (11am AEDT). The *********** and English women’s teams then clash for the first time since 2017. Cronulla will try to knock off four-time reigning premiers Penrith as the big finish to this unique Vegas show. It’s not just organisers who have expanded their horizons for the second Vegas visit. Fans have come from further afield too. If you’d kept an ear out on the Vegas Strip over the past week, you’d have heard the roaring accents of Northern England mingling with Kiwi lilts. The supporter event in downtown Vegas was ******* and better, with some estimating as many as 10,000 punters crammed on to Fremont Street to catch a glimpse of their idols on Thursday night. The league also established a fan zone inside the luxurious Resorts World, which played host to hundreds of punters each day from Wednesday. Absent from the program last year, the site was more popular than the league anticipated as fans spilt into the vestibules of the hotel precinct waiting for autographs. The size of the event has grown to match the NRL’s ambition. Chief executive Andrew Abdo said last week the NRL believed that rugby league would slowly but surely find its way into the hearts of the American people. “We want Americans to not only think about NFL and NBA and NHL, but add NRL to that repertoire of sports that they follow and love,” he said. Unlike most gambles in Vegas, the NRL will to need to wait to collect its winnings, particularly when it comes to sustained engagement with the sport by Americans. One visit to Allegiant Stadium does not a rugby league die-hard make. “Once they start seeing it on TV, they think, ‘I’ve got to be there next year’,” said Warriors coach Andrew Webster. “That’s when we can grow the American audience.” The NRL’s dream for America is so big it extends beyond Vegas, and beyond one Saturday in March. “It’s about how many fans we can get interested in the sport throughout the season, watching on television, streaming, playing NRL Fantasy, being engaged with the sport,” Abdo said. Will it all pay off? Pundits and fans are split. But there’s one thing anyone will tell you of the NRL’s American dream, this most extravagant of Vegas bets. “It’s a very brave move,” said Penrith coach Ivan Cleary. “Obviously I don’t know the numbers and all that, but the feeling is incredible. It’s good to see so many people. “I’m quite honoured to be able to showcase our amazing sport over here.” Source link #NRL #cash #brave #Las #Vegas #gamble Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  24. Elisabeth Fritzl Was Lured into a Basement By Her Dad and Trapped for 24 Years. Inside the Horrifying Case That Inspired “Room” — and How She Pulled Off Her Escape Elisabeth Fritzl Was Lured into a Basement By Her Dad and Trapped for 24 Years. Inside the Horrifying Case That Inspired “Room” — and How She Pulled Off Her Escape Elisabeth Fritzl was held captive in a basement and ********* abused by her father, Josef Fritzl, for 24 years — and had seven of his children. Years before the abduction, Josef remodeled the basement of their family house in Austria, where he eventually lured and imprisoned Elisabeth. When she disappeared, he claimed that she ran away from home, convincing even his wife, Elisabeth’s mother Rosemarie, that she left willingly to join a cult. Josef and Rosemarie raised three of Elisabeth’s children, who Josef pretended Elisabeth left on their doorstep, while Elisabeth was forced to raise three of her children in a locked underground compound without windows. She and seven of her children survived 8,516 days in captivity, according to The Belfast Telegraph, with some never seeing sunlight until they were adults. The case and its media attention were part of the inspiration for the 2010 novel Room and the film of the same name released five years later. Since escaping, Elisabeth has kept a deliberately low profile. Here’s everything to know about where Elisabeth Fritzl and her children are now. Who is Elisabeth Fritzl? Plutsch/Us Press/Sipa/Shutterstock Elisabeth Fritzl. Elisabeth was born on April 6, 1966, and raised in her family’s home in Amstetten, Austria. When she was 11 years old, Josef started ********* abusing her, according to The Guardian. Josef began drawing up plans to build his extended cellar around 1981 or 1982. He equipped the space with electricity, made it soundproof and installed a toilet, sink, stove and refrigerator, as well as a bed. In 1984, he asked a then-18-year-old Elisabeth to help him hang the final door in the cellar, Sky News reported. During the process, Josef held an ether-soaked cloth to her face until she was unconscious and then moved her into the cellar, where she’d be trapped for 24 years. Josef physically, mentally and ********* abused Elisabeth almost daily starting on the second day of her captivity. He told everyone that she had run away to join a cult and forced her write letters to support his story. Elisabeth was alone, save for Josef’s abuse, for the first five years of captivity, per The Guardian. During her 24 years of imprisonment, Elisabeth gave birth to seven of her father’s children. Josef took three of the kids (Lisa, Monika and Alexander) to live with him and Rosemarie, staging three incidents in which a baby would be left on their doorstep with notes from Elisabeth asking for Josef and Rosemarie to care for them. Meanwhile, three other children (Kerstin, Stefan and Felix) remained locked in the cellar with Elisabeth. A twin boy named Michael died days after birth and Josef later admitted to incinerating the corpse. Who is Josef Fritzl? ROBERT JAEGER/AFP via Getty Josef Fritzl arrives at court on March 19, 2009. Josef Fritzl had seven children with his daughter, Elisabeth. His crimes may not have been limited to his *******, physical and mental abuse of Elisabeth though. According to The Telegraph, he ****** a 24-year-old woman at knifepoint in 1967 and was a suspect in the attempted ******* assault of a 21-year-old woman. He served one year of an 18-month sentence for the 1967 *****, with the crime getting expunged from his criminal record 15 years later. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Josef was also a suspect in four murders and several missing persons cases dating back nearly 50 years, including the ******* assault and ******* of a 17-year-old girl who resembled Elisabeth. Why was Elisabeth Fritzl locked in the basement? Johannes Simon/Getty The exterior of the house in Austria where Josef Fritzl imprisoned Elisabeth Fritzl. Josef specifically designed the basement to make it nearly impossible for Elisabeth to escape from it or for anyone nearby to hear her if she screamed for help. He came up with a makeshift security system and ensured the cellar was soundproof. “I brought in a heavy door of steel and concrete and equipped it with a remote-controlled electrical motor, which would open it only after a numeric code was entered,” he told Austrian prosecutors (via The Guardian). Sky News reported that Josef told Elisabeth and their children that if they tried to escape, they’d be electrocuted or that poison would be released into the cellar, killing them. Josef claimed that he initially locked Elisabeth in the cellar because she was smoking, drinking and not adhering to his and Rosemarie’s household rules. But the longer Elisabeth was locked away, the more difficult it became for him to consider letting her out. “With every passing week in which I kept my daughter captive my situation was getting crazier,” he said. “I was afraid of being arrested and of having my family and everyone out there find out about my crime — and so I postponed my decision again and again. Until one day it was really too late to free Elisabeth and take her upstairs.” According to Josef, his ******* abuse of Elisabeth began when she was in the basement after his feelings intensified over time. “I knew that I was hurting her. But the urge to finally be able to taste the forbidden fruit was too strong. It was like an addiction,” he told officials. Did Elisabeth Fritzl’s mother know she was in the basement? SID Lower Austria via Getty A photo of the basement where Elisabeth Fritzl was held with her children. Rosemarie reportedly didn’t know Elisabeth was locked in the cellar, and neither did anyone else. “The cellar of my house belonged to me and to me alone, it was my kingdom to which only I had access to,” Josef told Austrian prosecutors, per The Guardian. He continued, “Everyone who lived there knew that. My wife, my children, my lodgers. And no one would have dared to enter my realm or even to ask me what I was doing there.” Authorities told The Sydney Morning Herald that they believed Rosemarie was oblivious to Josef’s crimes against Elisabeth and the children, but that she did know about his 1967 ***** conviction and took him back after he was released from prison. Josef was reportedly also physically abusive to Rosemarie and to their son, Harald. How did Elisabeth Fritzl escape? Helmut Fohringer/EPA/Shutterstock Reporters outside of the home where Josef Fritzl held Elisabeth Fritzl capitve. During his conversation with Austrian prosecutors, Josef noted that in case of his death, he had a timer set so that if he ever didn’t unlock and enter the cellar for a certain length of time, it would unlock and she could be free. But there was an unexpected turn of events when Elisabeth’s daughter, Kerstin, then 19, became ill. On April 19, 2008, Elisabeth convinced Josef to bring Kerstin to a hospital for medical treatment. Once there, Josef gave Kerstin’s care team a note to demonstrate that Elisabeth was Kerstin’s mother who was away in a cult. Doctors made a televised appeal to Kerstin’s missing mother to come forward and provide information about Kerstin’s medical history, The New York Times reported. Elisabeth, who had a television in the cellar, saw the TV report and convinced Josef to release her and the two other children, sons Felix and Stefan, who were still imprisoned in the cellar with her. On April 26, 2008, Elisabeth visited Kerstin at the hospital with Josef after she was freed, at which point Josef was arrested on suspicion of ******* abuse. Police questioned Elisabeth about what she endured, but she wouldn’t cooperate unless they promised her that she’d never have to see her father again. Josef was charged with coercion, deprivation of liberty, *******, ***** and enslavement of Elisabeth, as well as the ******* of newborn Michael by negligence for not getting him medical attention, the BBC reported. He initially pleaded guilty to all charges except enslavement and ******* but after a few days of his criminal trial, pleaded guilty to all charges. The New York Times reported that Michael’s negligent death carried the highest sentence and prosecutors demanded the maximum time for Josef. On March 19, 2009, a then-73-year-old Josef was sentenced to life in prison. Where is Elisabeth Fritzl now? Elisabeth changed her name after her father’s trial, The Mirror reported in January 2024. Austrian law prevents news outlets from revealing her identity. She lives in a rural Austrian town known only to the public as “Village X” with her six surviving children and her partner, Thomas Wagner, a bodyguard who was hired to protect the family. A member of her care team told the outlet that she continues to work toward moving past her trauma and have some semblance of normalcy. “With the approval of her doctors she has ceased psychiatric therapies while she gets on with her life — learning to drive, helping her children with their homework, making friends with people in her locality,” they said. “She lost the best years of her life in that cellar; she is determined that every day remaining to her will be filled with activity.” Where are Elisabeth Fritzl’s kids now? Elisabeth was forced to give birth to seven children in the cellar without medical help, which included Kerstin, Stefan, Felix, Lisa, Monika, Alexander and the late Michael. Elisabeth’s six surviving children were reunited after Josef’s crimes were discovered but it took time to adjust. The Independent reported that the kids (Lisa, Monika, Alexander) who grew up with Josef and Rosemarie felt guilt for living relatively normal lives, while the other three (Kerstin, Stefan, Felix) struggled to bond as they learned about the outside world for the first time. Eight years later, Kerstin was in a serious relationship and Stefan reportedly had ambitions to be a merchant ship captain, per The Belfast Telegraph. Felix was also a relatively well-adjusted child who enjoyed PlayStation games and attended school. Elisabeth’s children are now adults, ranging in age from 21 to 36, and live with her in a remote Austrian village. One local told The Mirror, “Given what they have been through, they are very polite, happy and smile a lot.” Where is Josef Fritzl now? Picture/Apa/Shutterstock Josef Fritzl. In a May 2023 interview, Josef told The Sun that he expressed different hopes, including wanting to reunite with his family and reconcile with his ex-wife, Rosemarie, who divorced him in 2012. “I do understand people who want me to die in jail. But I want to experience freedom one day. I’ve never been afraid of dying,” he said. A year later, in May 2024, Josef was approved for a transfer from a psychiatric prison to a regular prison, Reuters reported. In a statement from the court, it was declared that Josef no longer posed a threat that required him to be in the “forensic therapeutic centre,” citing his dementia diagnosis and physical frailty. In the Austrian correctional system, transfers like these are typical before prisoners are granted conditional release, which Josef’s attorney said she’d seek for him. However, the court also noted that it’s unlikely he’d ever be released from prison because of “special preventive reasons.” If you or someone you know has been ********* assaulted, please contact the National ******* Assault Hotline at 1-800-656-HOPE (4673) or go to rainn.org. 25. Citigroup mistakenly credited a customer account with $81 trillion Citigroup mistakenly credited a customer account with $81 trillion Jim Dyson | Getty Images News | Getty Images Citigroup mistakenly credit a customer’s account with $81 trillion last year when it meant to send just $280. The payment, which took place last April, was missed by two employees but caught 90 minutes after it was posted, the Financial Times first reported Friday night. It was reversed several hours later and reported to the Federal Reserve and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency as a “near miss.” The event is the latest mistake disclosed by the Wall Street bank, which is struggling to overcome a series of operational errors in recent years. “Despite the fact that a payment of this size could not actually have been executed, our detective controls promptly identified the inputting error between two Citi ledger accounts, and we reversed the entry,” Citi said in a statement to NBC News. “Our preventative controls would have also stopped any funds leaving the bank. While there was no impact to the bank or our client, the episode underscores our continued efforts to continue eliminating manual processes and automating controls through our Transformation.” Citi neither confirmed nor provided comment on the number of near misses it has experienced. Near misses occur when a bank processes the wrong amount but is able to recover the funds. The bank suffered 10 near misses of $1 billion or more last year and 13 in the year prior, the according to the report. The bank has been working to repair its reputation since it sent $900 million in error to creditors engaged in a contentious battle over the debt of cosmetics group Revlon five years ago — which led to the ousting of former CEO Michael Corbat, as well as big fines and regulatory consent orders requiring Citi to fix the issues. Corbat’s successor, Jane Fraser, has said improving risk and controls is a top priority. The bank was still fined $136 million by regulators last year for not making enough progress on the improvements.
