  1. South Africa top Trophy group with big win over England South Africa top Trophy group with big win over England Heinrich Klaasen and Rassie van der Dussen have scored half-centuries as South Africa eased to a comfortable seven-wicket win over ailing England in Karachi to book a semi-final place at the Champions Trophy. England were bowled out for 179 in 38.2 overs after their departing skipper Jos Buttler had chosen to bat, and South Africa before reaching their target with a huge 125 ****** to spare following a 127-run third-wicket stand between Klaasen (64) and Van der Dussen (72no). The win means the Proteas top group B and join Australia in the semi-finals, with the fixture line-up only to be confirmed when the already-qualified India and New Zealand meet in Dubai on Sunday to battle for top spot in group A. The match was Buttler’s last in charge for England, as he’s stepping down from his role, with his side having ended up losing all three pool fixtures in the tournament. England were already out of contention going into Saturday’s game and, after winning the toss, their innings never got going as they played some poor shots on a good batting wicket. “A really disappointing performance,” Buttler said. “We were so far short of the mark there today. It was a decent surface — pretty slow and a bit two-paced. “We’re not going on and making those big, telling contributions which has been a story of this side for some time now with the bat.” South Africa did well to expose England’s desire to chase the run-rate with injudicious shots but also bowled both sides of the wicket and will need to tighten up their lines, whoever they face in the semi-finals. “The wicket was quite slow, slower than we expected,” South Africa stand-in captain Aiden Markram said. “The boys adapted really well and kept trying to hold a length for as long as they could. We took wickets throughout.” Joe Root top-scored for England with a well-constructed 37 before he was bowled by seamer Wiaan Mulder (3-25), while Buttler managed 21. There was little else to enthuse over for the side, with Ben Duckett (24) and Jofra Archer (25) also managing starts. South Africa lost Tristan Stubbs (0) early in their chase, as he played on to his wicket from a delivery by Archer (2-55). But once Klaasen and van der Dussen got together, there was never much doubt about the result. Van der Dussen’s unbeaten 72 came from 87 ****** and included three sixes as he anchored the innings along with the more explosive Klaasen, whose 64 came off 56 ******, with 11 boundaries. But South Africa will sweat over the fitness of Markram, who left the field with a hamstring injury, ahead of their semi-final, while captain Temba Bavuma and opening batter Tony de Zorzi missed the game through illness. 2. Another Popular Cat Food Has Been Linked to Bird Flu Igniting More Fear in **** Parents Another Popular Cat Food Has Been Linked to Bird Flu Igniting More Fear in **** Parents The Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA) is sounding alarms to **** parents after “at least two” cats have been linked to the bird flu in the state, and that’s just the beginning. The WSDA shared a news release notice, which warns that its continued investigation into **** food and the spread of the bird flu in and around the state has identified more cats have been linked and its asking **** parents to be vigilant. Here’s what you need to know. According to the news release, the WSDA has identified that “at least two domestic, indoor cats in King and Snohomish counties in Washington have become infected with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI)” which is also known as “bird flu,” and “more cats being tested.” Related: Veterinarian Shares Informative Perspective on Raw Food Diets and Why They’re So Taboo Which Cat Food Is Included in the Alert? The notice, which was posted on the WSDA website on February 26, 2025, shares that the cat food company Wild Cost Raw **** food, were linked to the two domestic, indoor cats identified as being infected with the bird flu in Washington. According to the notice, the two identified cats tested positive for having the bird flu via laboratory results on February 24, 2025. The WSDA was notified of the results on February 25, 2025. “One of the cats was euthanized due to the severity of the illness,” the notice explained. “The second cat is being treated by a veterinarian.” The potentially contaminated Wild Coast Raw **** food was previously linked to severe illness in cats in Oregon earlier this month. According to the alert, the potential contamination which was linked to bird flu in cats since all the identified cats ate the same food, is the Wild Coast LLC Boneless Range Chicken Formula. This includes lots #22660 and #22664 with a “Best By Date” of 12/2025, according to the WSDA media notice. The agency is “urging” **** parents to check their cat food stock at home for these lot numbers and best by dates and safely dispose. What Are the Symptoms of Bird Flu in Cats? According to the WSDA, common signs of bird flu infection in cats includes “lethargy, low appetite, fever, hypothermia, progression of illness to pneumonia, progression of illness to neurologic abnormalities and upper respiratory infection.” What Should You Do If Your Cat Is Sick? If your cat is showing signs of having potentially contracted Bird Flu, the WSDA notes they “could be isolated to prevent the possible spread to other animals,” and you should report your concerns to your cat’s veterinarian. “Inform the veterinary clinic before arriving so the veterinary team can prepare to handle the cat in a manner that reduces risk of transmission to veterinary staff, other clients, and other animals,” WSDA warned. Can People Get the Bird Flu? The agency says that bird flu has the potential to spread to humans, but to date there’s no indication that’s happened in these cases. “The currently circulating strain of [bird flu] is considered low risk to the public,” they note, however, “there is greater risk for those who handle contaminated raw **** food products or who care for infected animals.” Infection to people could happen from handling contaminated **** food or touching contaminated surfaces. “Caretakers should wear a well-fitting face mask and practice good hand hygiene when caring for infected animals,” WSDA suggests, adding that people exposed to animals with bird flu will be monitored by public health for ten days after last exposure. Symptoms of bird fu in people may include fatigue, headache, body aches, fever, nausea, cough, sore throat, and eye redness or irritation. **** parents “showing these signs should contact their healthcare providers.” The WSDA notes its continuing to monitor the situation and currently does not “recommend feeding raw **** food or raw milk to animals.” SIGN UP to get “pawsitivity” delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends Source link #Popular #Cat #Food #Linked #Bird #Flu #Igniting #Fear #**** #Parents Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  4. ‘There Are People Who Think It’s Dramatically Overvalued. And I Don’t Get That’ ‘There Are People Who Think It’s Dramatically Overvalued. And I Don’t Get That’ We recently published an article titled Jim Cramer Discusses These 10 Stocks & Says Bitcoin Created “Froth” In The Market. In this article, we are going to take a look at where NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) stands against the other stocks Jim Cramer recently discussed. In a recent appearance on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street, Jim Cramer discussed the impact of Elon Musk’s DOGE cost-cutting efforts on the US government and how action against smaller agencies such as USAID can translate into action against larger agencies and programs. According to him: “But I do think that when the Defense Department is on the [inaudible], and then Medicare, Medicaid. I mean, Medicare, Medicaid, I don’t know a soul who thinks that there isn’t **** in there. And I also think that, kind of like the labor department, with the unemployment number we really don’t know what it is we have big revisions, if we had, if we gave to Salesforce, I don’t know. . .I think that, if we gave these companies, literally outsourced these companies, I know people are going to say, Jim you are like, that is so right wing, but if there’s, the machines are better. . “ Cramer also commented on recent Bitcoin price action which saw the cryptocurrency dip below the $90,000 mark. He linked Bitcoin as being a “proxy for the fact that we have thirty-six trillion in debt.” Cramer also wondered how much of the gain in Bitcoin’s price was due to Michael Saylor’s firm adding the currency to its balance sheet. Cramer added that his team has concluded that so much of the “froth” in the market in untested areas such as quantum computing came from Bitcoin. He outlined: “The reason why we’ve had so much froth . . .we think that Bitcoin got people very excited about things that are space age and that the fundament of speculation is Bitcoin. That’s what turned it all on.” Another topic that caught the CNBC TV host’s attention was the mergers and acquisition environment in the Trump administration. After the President’s election victory in November, investors were ecstatic as they believed that the new administration could create a healthy environment for deals. Commenting on how the rules of the market still remained the same, Cramer outlined: “Look you can enforce the rules two ways. You can use the rules and talk. Or you can prosecute using the rules. And they’re not going to prosecute. They’re going to have discussions. They are not going to do it the way that Biden did.” Story Continues He also shared that the “size” of the deals that are taking place is “microscopic” and added that “The M&A and the IPO markets are as dead as I have ever seen them.” Apart from the M&A sector, another sector he discussed was the consumer packaged goods. These firms have struggled amidst high input prices and inflation. Cramer believes “They should all, the consumer packaged goods companies, should merge. Because they’re pathetic. They’re pathetic parodies of stocks. . . which by the way I really like them.” Finally, he also commented on the poor performance of Mag 7 stocks and inflation. According to Cramer: “I mean, I keep thinking about what you said about the Mag 7, and their ability to be able to affect spending. If that’s the case, look, the Fed is, Austan Goolsbee, whom I really, really like, he’s been waffling. I wish he went the other way. Because I think the data says, that he would have been right. Except for insurance, stake, eggs, okay. These are bad. Insurance, steak, and eggs. And then entertainment is just ridiculous. If Swift were to cut the prices of her tickets, we would have a rate cut immediately.” To make our list of the stocks that Jim Cramer talked about, we listed down all the stocks he mentioned during CNBC’s Squawk on the Street aired on February 25th. For these stocks, we also mentioned the number of hedge fund investors. Why are we interested in the stocks that hedge funds pile into? The reason is simple: our research has shown that we can outperform the market by imitating the top stock picks of the best hedge funds. Our quarterly newsletter’s strategy selects 14 small-cap and large-cap stocks every quarter and has returned 373.4% since May 2014, beating its benchmark by 218 percentage points (see more details here). Is NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) The Best Money Making Stock To Buy Now? A close-up of a colorful high-end graphics card being plugged in to a gaming computer. Number of Hedge Fund Holders In Q4 2024: 223 NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) is the world’s latest AI GPU company. Cramer’s comments quoted here were made ahead of the firm’s highly important fiscal fourth-quarter earnings report. The results saw NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) post $39.3 billion in revenue and $0.89 in adjusted earnings to analyst estimates of $38.05 billion and $0.84. The firm’s Q1 guidance also surpassed estimates, but its gross margin guidance of 71% fell below estimates of 72.2%. NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA)’s shares were flat in aftermarket trading after the report. Here is what Cramer said before the results were announced: “People are talking about NVIDIA. And there is a nice deal this morning with Cisco. I think it’s actually much more important than people realize. Cisco’s the first to qualify. It’s going to be a real partnership. And that uh Chuck Robbins working closely with Jensen. But there is an overwhelming sense that this market keys on NVIDIA at a moment when we have no idea what the federal government’s gonna do to NVIDIA.” Overall NVDA ranks 2nd on our list of stocks Jim Cramer recently discussed. While we acknowledge the potential of NVDA as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and doing so within a shorter time frame. If you are looking for an AI stock that is more promising than NVDA but that trades at less than 5 times its earnings, check out our report about the cheapest AI stock. Ronnie O’Sullivan: Englishman withdraws from World Grand Prix in Hong Kong for medical reasons Ronnie O’Sullivan: Englishman withdraws from World Grand Prix in Hong Kong for medical reasons Seven-time world champion Ronnie O’Sullivan has withdrawn from next week’s World Grand Prix in Hong Kong for medical reasons. The 49-year-old Englishman was schedule to play China’s Si Jiahui in the opening round on Wednesday and will now be replaced by Iranian Hossein Vafaei. In February, O’Sullivan apologised for withdrawing from recent events, saying he needed to prioritise his health and wellbeing. He will next be eligible to play at the World Snooker Championship in April as he can no longer qualify for this month’s Players Championship and Tour Championship events. The World Grand Prix, which is a ranking event, features the leading 32 players of the season so far and runs from 4 -9 March. O’Sullivan has not played on the World Snooker Tour (WST) since withdrawing midway through his Championship League group in January, snapping his cue after losing four of his five matches. 8. Feadship Just Unveiled Its New 262-Foot Superyacht Feadship Just Unveiled Its New 262-Foot Superyacht Feadship just gave us a first glimpse at its latest creation. The Dutch boat builder has just launched Project 714, a striking 262-foot superyacht, from its Aalsmeer facility in the Netherlands. Called “a true gentlemen’s yacht” by the yard, the hybrid vessel is all set to undergo its final outfitting and sea trials ahead of its delivery. More from Robb Report Feadship tapped RWD to undertake the exterior design of Project 714, and the yacht creative firm dreamed up a sculpted, curvy facade encased in a blue steel hull and an aluminum superstructure. Naval architecture was, of course, handled by Feadship De Voogt. Project 714 is ready to undergo sea trials and final outfitting. Project 714 is more than just a pretty face, though. All its hybrid grunt that comes from a diesel-electric power system that has 4.5 times more electrical storage capacity than Savannah, Feadship’s first hybrid launch. The propulsion system, developed through the Feadship Advanced Electrical Drive program, is the same one that can be found aboard the yard’s Obsidian. That yacht emitted 90 percent less carbon than other gas-powered vessels when running on a non-fossil diesel fuel called HVO, so if this newest launch can operate similarly, we may be in for another sustainable marvel. As for propulsion and steering, they’re delivered by two contra-rotating thrusters. That duo eliminates the need for your typical drive shafts and rudders—meaning that drag is significantly reduced and efficiently is increased, according to the yard. Details about Project 714’s interiors have been kept quiet for now, but Feadship is no stranger to building a lavish living space. Obsidian, for one, had a secret staircase that led to the study and a sunken lounge on the main deck. Savannah, meanwhile, came with an underwater lounge onboard. Feadship is aiming develop a net-zero superyacht by 2030. On its quest to do just that, the Dutch yard has come out with a slew of hybrid stunners. Project 713, a 195-foot superyacht with a blue-gray hull, is the first vessel from the company to be equipped with solar cells for power, alongside its diesel-electric main propulsion. Feadship also created the first hydrogen-powered superyacht, known as Project 821, which left its Amsterdam shipyard last May. Best of Robb Report Sign up for RobbReports’s Newsletter. 10. After rolling out Sora beyond the US, OpenAI plans to put the video AI tool inside ChatGPT After rolling out Sora beyond the US, OpenAI plans to put the video AI tool inside ChatGPT OpenAI is reportedly going to add Sora to the ChatGPT app As yet there’s no timeline for the integration The full Sora experience will continue to be a separate app Having launched in the US last December, and going live for a bunch of European countries earlier this week, OpenAI’s video generation tool Sora is expanding quickly – and the plan is to eventually put it inside the ChatGPT interface. That’s according to discussions at a company meeting, as reported by TechCrunch. Right now, Sora lives on its own separate website, and isn’t part of the ChatGPT apps on web or mobile – apps that do include image generation capabilities. Sora product lead Rohan Sahai apparently said that OpenAI has plans to put Sora in more places, as well as to build on the features and tools of the AI video maker. However, it seems likely Sora would also remain as a separate, standalone experience too. The version of Sora put inside ChatGPT may not be as comprehensive as the current web tool, Sahai admitted. Part of the reason the integration isn’t already in place is to avoid cluttering up the ChatGPT interface too much. More on the way The Sora web interface (Image credit: Future) Right now there’s no timeline for any of this, though Sora inside ChatGPT could help drive more paid subscriptions: right now, you need to be a ChatGPT Plus ($20-a-month) or ChatGPT Pro ($200-a-month) subscriber to be able to use Sora. You get different limits on video resolution and the number of videos you make, depending on how much you pay. Every user gets a certain number of credits each month, and videos that are longer and of higher quality cost more credits. The same user credentials are used to sign into both ChatGPT and Sora, so some of the work is already done. However, the Sora website has elements like a featured video showcase that would be difficult to cram into ChatGPT. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. Sahai reportedly also said that an improved version of the AI model running underneath Sora is on the way, and said that OpenAI was also working on an image generator powered by Sora that could produce more photorealistic images. 13. Amazon’s new AI-powered Alexa+ is a lot more fun to talk to than ChatGPT or Siri, and I like it Amazon’s new AI-powered Alexa+ is a lot more fun to talk to than ChatGPT or Siri, and I like it Now we know that an AI-powered Alexa+ is coming to your Amazon device very soon (assuming you live in the US of course – international release dates are still to be confirmed), we can welcome Amazon back to the virtual assistant race with open arms. Alexa, where have you been? Despite leading the charge on virtual assistants way back in 2014, Alexa effectively dropped out of the development race for a year or two there while Silicon Valley’s young AI upstarts, like ChatGPT and Gemini, took over the virtual assistant space. While they were adding voice modes and starting to interact with our calendars and inboxes, Alexa was still stuck as being nothing more than a glorified egg timer that could talk. It’s not like Amazon’s main virtual assistant competitor, Apple’s Siri, has really done anything to take advantage of the stall in Alexa’s development. Apple was equally wrong footed by the AI equivalent of the Cambrian explosion, but at least Apple has made some attempt to get into the AI wars with Apple Intelligence, even if it seems to be endlessly playing catch-up, tied to a yearly release schedule when the rest of the AI market was simply reinventing itself every three months. Alexa+ on a Fire TV. (Image credit: Amazon) Alexa is back, baby But now Alexa is back, and it’s got a bit of an attitude. One thing I noticed about yesterday’s Alexa+ demo from Amazon was that the presenters, like Amazon Devices lead Panos Panay, frequently referred to Alexa as “her”, and there was absolutely no mention of changing Alexa to a different voice, or even changing “her” gender. (I still find it weird to call an AI either “he” or “she”, so I’m sticking with “it” in this article. Don’t cancel me, please.) In contrast, when OpenAI introduced ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode, adding a realistic voice for the first time to ChatGPT, it put a lot of effort into showing off all the different voices you could get it to use, half of which are male and half of which are female. Apple’s Siri is also very cosmopolitan. It can talk in multiple accents and offers a choice between male and female voices. To be clear, I think it’s unlikely that Amazon won’t offer a way to customize the voice of Alexa+ – you can get the current Alexa to change voices by simply saying “Change voice” – but Amazon is clearly trying to present Alexa in a more personal and human way than the other big tech companies have so far with their talking AIs. Fun to talk to Not only does Amazon refer to Alexa as “her” but she (damnit, see how easy it is to start thinking of Alexa as a person?) has much more of a personality than the responses you get from ChatGPT, Siri and Gemini. Alexa even makes jokes and throws in funny comments. In the videos of the demo of Alexa+ you can see that she (OK, I give in) sounds light, breezy and fun to talk to: Alexa+ even manages to crack a joke or two: Incidentally, talking of changing Alexa voices, Amazon used to offer celebrity voices for Alexa as downloads. The US-only feature cost $4.99 each for Samuel L Jackson, Shaquille O-Neal and Melissa McCarthy, but the company pulled them all in 2023. I would love to have been able to talk to a Samuel L Jackson version of Alexa+ with this enlarged range of responses and attitude. Can you imagine how cool it would be if Samuel L Jackson Alexa+ could channel some of the energy from his movie roles into your Alexa device? Jules Winnfield from Pulp Fiction telling me what’s on my calendar today and that yes, “I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers”, would pump start my day in a way that no amount of caffeine could ever match. In contrast, talking to ChatGPT or Siri at the moment lacks the same sort of emotional spark that even basic Alexa+ has. They are functional, yes, but not as fun as the direction Amazon is taking Alexa+. By making an AI chatbot with a bit of personality Amazon might have just found a niche that means it can recover from its slow start in the AI arms race. Not to mention that Alexa+ is designed primarily to be on a device that sits in your home, not on a phone in your pocket or a computer at your desk. While that might not be much of a technical difference, the difference in the way you use Alexa+ means you’re in a different location, at a different distance, and ultimately in a different frame of mind when you use it. Nobody is expecting Alexa+ to be able to produce C++ code, for example. Alexa+ is simply there for all the fun things in life like playing music, watching movies and reading your kids a story. Sure, it can do clever things like book a meal at your favorite restaurant and organize your diary, too, but while Apple or OpenAI are going to own the AI in your pocket or at work, it’s looking like Amazon is going to own the AI in your home. I just wish it would bring back the custom voices, so Alexa+ can truly be his or her brother’s keeper. 19. Clues and answer for Saturday, March 1 Clues and answer for Saturday, March 1 Hey, there! Welcome to the weekend and the first day of March. We hope it’s a terrific month for you. Whatever else you’re up to today, you might want to keep your Wordle streak going. To help with that, here’s our daily Wordle guide with some hints and the answer for Saturday’s puzzle (#1,351). It may be that you’re a Wordle newcomer and you’re not completely sure how to play the game. We’re here to help with that too. What is Wordle? Wordle is a deceptively simple daily word game that first emerged in 2021. The gist is that there is one five-letter word to deduce every day by process of elimination. The daily word is the same for everyone. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. Wordle blew up in popularity in late 2021 after creator Josh Wardle made it easy for players to share an emoji-based grid with their friends and followers that detailed how they fared each day. The game’s success spurred dozens of clones across a swathe of categories and formats. The New York Times purchased Wordle in early 2022 for an undisclosed sum. The publication said that players collectively played Wordle 5.3 billion times in 2024. So, it’s little surprise that Wordle is one of the best online games and puzzles you can play daily. How to play Wordle To start playing Wordle, you simply need to enter one five-letter word. The game will tell you how close you are to that day’s secret word by highlighting letters that are in the correct position in green. Letters that appear in the word but aren’t in the right spot will be highlighted in yellow. If you guess any letters that are not in the secret word, the game will gray those out on the virtual keyboard. You’ll only have six guesses to find each day’s word, though you still can use grayed-out letters to help narrow things down. It’s also worth remembering that letters can appear in the secret word more than once. Wordle is free to play on the NYT’s website and apps, as well as on Meta Quest headsets. The game refreshes at midnight local time. If you log into a New York Times account, you can track your stats, including the all-important win streak. How to play Wordle more than once a day If you have a NYT subscription that includes full access to the publication’s games, you don’t have to stop after a single round of Wordle. You’ll have access to an archive of more than 1,300 previous Wordle games. So if you’re a relative newcomer, you’ll be able to go back and catch up on previous editions. In addition, paid NYT Games members have access to a tool called the Wordle Bot. This can tell you how well you performed at each day’s game. 22. Neodesha, Kansas offers incentives to entice people to move there Neodesha, Kansas offers incentives to entice people to move there Field of wheat in central Kansas is nearly ready for harvest. Ricardo Reitmeyer | Getty Images With a population of about 2,100, Neodesha, Kansas, is roughly 100 miles from Wichita and Topeka in Kansas and Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its claim to fame is the 65-foot-tall tower that supported the drilling framework for the first commercial oil well west of the Mississippi River, locals say. But as an old oil town, Neodesha has struggled with a decreasing population and an aging housing supply for years. When the refinery formerly owned by Standard Oil Co. closed in 1971, “the population was cut in half over night,” according to Neodesha’s mayor, Devin Johnson. “We have seen that decline as every small community has over the last 50 years,” Johnson said. “The thing with small communities is, if you are not growing, you are dying.” Last year, Neodesha partnered with MakeMyMove, an online relocation marketplace that connects workers with communities trying to attract new residents. Incentives include tax waivers and free college The town is now offering qualifying new residents incentives — such as waiving state income tax through 2026 along with property tax rebates and help with day care for working parents — as well as access to existing perks, including student loan repayment assistance up to $15,000 and free college tuition through the Neodesha Promise scholarship program. MakeMyMove, which has worked with 88 communities across the U.S., screens applicants and connects them with local resources. Since the program launched in 2024, more than 30 people are in the process of moving to Neodesha, according to Evan Hock, MakeMyMove’s co-founder and chief operating officer. “We’ve awarded over $1 million in scholarships, and I feel like we are helping the community and making some real progress,” said Ben Cutler, who grew up in Neodesha and now funds the scholarship program, which started in 2020 and is available to any graduate of Neodesha High School in good standing. (Neodesha’s promise program will cover tuition at participating colleges or associate degree programs and vocational schools nationwide.) “One of my key focuses was helping build the community, to help in any way I could to make Neodesha a more attractive community for young families, and I think we’re making some real progress in that regard — I certainly hope so anyway,” Cutler said. More from Personal Finance:2025 is a renter’s market, experts sayHome price growth has slowed1 in 3 Americans have ‘layoff anxiety’ Meanwhile, efforts are also underway to construct hundreds of new homes, apartments and duplexes in the region, along with the development of retail and commercial spaces and the renovation of several historic buildings on Main Street. “We’ve got to cherish what we’ve got but make sure we make Neodesha an attractive place for people to come,” Johnson said. These cities will pay you to move there Other communities across the country have also been upping the ante with cash incentives or voucher programs for people willing to move. For example, workers relocating to Topeka can receive up to $10,000 for rent for the first year or up to $15,000 to put toward buying a home. Another program affiliated with the West Virginia Department of Tourism is offering a cash incentive of $12,000 along with access to free coworking spaces and outdoor recreation packages for those who move to the state for at least two years. The Shoals Economic Development Authority offers $10,000 in cash to full-time remote employees who are willing to relocate to the Shoals community in northwest Alabama. “This is a cost-effective way of doing economic development,” said MakeMyMove’s Hock. The communities “usually get a return within the first year.” However, “incentives are not the reason people actually move,” he said. Affordability is key, he said, but community also plays an important role. “They are looking for quality of place, they want a community connection, that’s what is motivating the move,” Hock said. ‘A family-friendly place to live’ Incentive programs in Neodesha and other regions are gaining steam as residents from major cities across the country increasingly migrate to Southern and Midwestern spots where housing costs are less severe, and where construction is keeping up with the demand, reports show. United Van Lines’ annual 2024 study found a growing shift away from the cities and suburbs of New York, Los Angeles and Chicago toward more “livable” locations with lower day-to-day living expenses. Kaitlyn and Jack Sundberg with their dogs Max and Bella in front of the home they purchased in Neodesha, Kansas. Courtesy: Kaitlyn Sundberg Kaitlyn Sundberg never expected that she would move to Kansas. Sundberg and her husband, Jack, lived in Southern California but struggled to save enough for the down payment on a home of their own. “We were living with my in-laws, and we were not able to afford anything,” said Sundberg, 27. Sundberg’s husband, who worked as an estimator for a telecom company, expanded his job search — significantly — and found an opportunity as the program manager for Southeast Kansas Inc. When they visited Neodesha, “it just seemed like a family-friendly place to live,” Sundberg said. “We spent a Saturday looking for a house — there were kids riding bikes,” she said, “I just cried.” The couple moved to Neodesha with their two dogs 18 months ago, even before the incentive program launched. Sundberg now works as the executive director of the new early learning center in town after a neighbor brought over the job posting and suggested she apply for the position. “Being away from family is the hardest part,” she said, “but I would never want to move back.” Subscribe to CNBC on YouTube. 24. AMD VP teases RDNA 4 compatibility with ROCm, but doesn’t reveal official launch date AMD VP teases RDNA 4 compatibility with ROCm, but doesn’t reveal official launch date Yesterday, it was reported that AMD’s RDNA 4 GPUs will not get ROCm support at launch. Unsurprisingly, this upset many developers who were planning to upgrade their setups and hoped for a seamless transition. However, ROCm support might not be far behind the launch, as AMD’s Vice President of AI Software has teased what appears to be an AMD GPU from the RX 9070 series running in a dedicated ROCm environment. ROCm is an open-source software stack for GPU programming, enabling graphics cards to be used for much more than rendering graphics. ROCm enables select GPUs to power HPC and AI applications, including professional Instinct Accelerators, prosumer Radeon PRO GPUs, and a handful of consumer-grade Radeon GPUs as well. It seemed lacking for AMD to miss out on the opportunity of providing day-one support to developers. Ironically, the initial traces of Navi 48, the chip beneath RX 9070 GPUs, surfaced in ROCm updates last year. Anush Elangovan reported that RDNA 4 is “ROCm’ing on just fine,” demonstrating a potential RX 9070 series GPU under rocm-smi (ROCm System Management Interface). ROCm’ing on just fine pic.twitter.com/xhootvpzuEFebruary 28, 2025 Developers have repeatedly bemoaned AMD’s slow adoption of new ROCm features and support on mainstream hardware. As of writing, AMD officially supports the RX 7000 and RX 6000 families of GPUs and the Radeon VII on Windows. Select RDNA 2 GPUs can only use the HIP runtime and don’t have access to the full HIP SDK. Linux support, which is notably better and more consistent, only extends to the RX 7900 series and the Radeon VII. There are a few workarounds to get unsupported hardware up and running with ROCm, which is reportedly more successful in Linux environments. Nvidia’s CUDA, on the contrary, can be run using GPUs dating back to 2006. Of course, newer architectures offer updated feature sets and fancier instructions. Given the recent advances in AI, 90% of Nvidia’s revenue is a result of its data-center accelerators, driven by CUDA at their heart. This shows how critical ROCm is for AMD if it wants to compete against the mammoth that Nvidia has become in the AI space. To broaden ROCm support, the next addition will likely be Strix Halo, or the Ryzen AI MAX 300 series. With as much as 128GB of unified memory, Strix Halo is much more than a gaming laptop; it’s more tailored for LLM inference and development, tackling Apple’s M-series silicon.
