  1. Popular US port to add new fee for cruise passengers Popular US port to add new fee for cruise passengers Ports in Mexico and Greece are not the only cruise destinations planning to impose new fees on cruise ship passengers soon. One popular cruise port on the U.S. East Coast just approved a new passenger fee that will eventually add an extra $15 to the cost of visiting the city on a cruise ship. Related: Royal Caribbean adds a convenient new homeport The East Coast port is following in the footsteps of Haines, Alaska, which recently approved a $9 per-passenger charge for 2025 to fund port improvements. The Haines cruise passenger fee will increase to $12 in 2027 and then to $13 in 2029. Juneau also charges a similar head tax on cruise ship passengers. Now, one of America’s oldest cities will implement a cruise passenger fee to support its in-demand cruise port as it welcomes larger ships and more passengers. The cost to cruise to Boston will increase in 2026 On Feb. 13, Massachusetts Port Authority officials approved a new port improvement project for Flynn Cruiseport Boston and new fees charged to cruise passengers will help fund it. Beginning in 2026, a $3 per-passenger fee will apply to cruise ships arriving in the port. According to local media reports, the fee will increase by $3 annually until it reaches $15 per passenger in 2030. The $105 million infrastructure project is designed to equip Flynn Cruiseport Boston to handle increased demand for cruises to and from the city. The port welcomed just over 480,000 passengers on 167 cruise ships in 2024, a 29 percent passenger increase over 2023. Along with enhancing port facilities to accommodate more passengers and larger ships, the new project will support sustainable maritime practices. The project includes installing ship-to-shore electrical power so cruise ships will not have to keep their diesel engines running while at berth. Related: Holland America Line adds cruises curated by The History Channel “Upgrades to the terminal include pier upgrades to support an additional Passenger Boarding Bridge, new escalator, and an expanded queueing area with increased seating, which will allow for better passenger flow. We want our passengers to have the best experience possible when they use the Flynn Cruiseport – either embarking on their dream vacation or visiting Boston for the day,” Massport said in a recent press release. Massport officials are also considering increases to rideshare and taxi pickup fees at Boston Logan International Airport that could raise costs for travelers flying to and from the city for a cruise. Larger ships will come to Boston in 2026 Boston’s cruise season runs from March through November with many cruise passengers visiting the city on Canada and New England cruise itineraries. In 2024, the port also supported itineraries to the Caribbean, Central America, and Iceland/Greenland from 24 different cruise lines and celebrated 12 three-ship days. As the new fee takes effect in 2026, Flynn Cruiseport Boston will welcome its largest homeport vessel yet, Norwegian Breakaway. The large Norwegian Cruise Line vessel will replace the smaller Norwegian Gem, which currently homeports in Boston. Beginning in April 2026, Norwegian Breakaway will sail cruises from Boston to Bermuda, Halifax and Bermuda, and Canada and New England. Related: Norwegian Cruise Line places order for its largest ships yet In addition to Norwegian, cruise lines that regularly sail to and from Boston include Holland America Line, Royal Caribbean, Princess Cruises, and Celebrity Cruises. “We were thrilled to see the strong demand for cruising in 2024, supporting the City of Boston and the Commonwealth’s travel and tourism industries,” said Massport CEO Rich Davey. “Our investment in shore power will dramatically reduce emissions, improve air quality, and reinforce Boston’s position as a leader in sustainable maritime practices. We’re also committed to continuously enhancing our facilities to accommodate the growing demand for cruising, the increase in larger ships like the Breakaway, and to ensure a seamless experience for both passengers and ships.” Are you taking a cruise or thinking about taking one? 3. Swag that sways: from It’s-Time skivvies to Albo socks Swag that sways: from It’s-Time skivvies to Albo socks Long before the Wiggles got into their big red car, there was an orange skivvy that changed the course of *********** political history. It was the early 1970s when *********** voters were won over by a snug-fitting roll neck, and as election time looms again in 2025, so too does the merchandise pushing the barrows of Canberra’s candidates. Caps, tote bags, umbrellas, coffee mugs, socks and even dog bandanas will be emblazoned with political slogans before voters hit the ballot boxes. “It’s saying, ‘I am here, this is me, this is what I stand for – but most importantly, you should vote for me’,” Museum of *********** Democracy research co-ordinator Campbell Rhodes told AAP of the campaign material. The most effective examples capture the zeitgeist, and arguably no object has done this better than the skivvy created for Gough Whitlam’s campaign for government, which he went on to win for Labor. Bright orange, tight fitting and embellished with Mr Whitlam’s “It’s Time” slogan, it is one of the most iconic pieces of *********** political memorabilia and is now stored at the Museum of *********** Democracy alongside hundreds of other campaign items. “It’s not just adopting popular fashion choices of the era, but it’s making this whole representation,” Mr Rhodes said. “This is 1972 Australia in a shirt, and the campaign was probably one of the most successful that has ever been launched.” Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s latest collection, which includes classic items like tees and pins, takes some lessons from his predecessor by featuring long socks with “Albo 2025” printed on the soles in Labor red. “We’re reliably informed by our younger, much cooler Labor supporters that ankle socks are out and sport socks are in,” a Labor spokesperson told AAP. The merchandise line also exemplifies a “presidentialisation” of *********** political messaging, as campaign material has increasingly focused on party leaders rather than individual MPs or the broader movement. Though this trend has become more prominent in recent years, perhaps reaching its zenith during Labor’s Kevin ’07 campaign, the political cult of personality is not new. Billy Hughes, who transitioned to the Nationalist Party after becoming prime minister, campaigned on his own personal appeal more than one hundred years ago. In a similar style to modern pins, badges from this contest don’t show Hughes’s name, just his photo with “Vote 1” written underneath. “His fervour during the First World War was such that you didn’t necessarily need his name to know who he was,” Mr Rhodes said. Hughes’s face was everywhere during the silent film era and he became so popular that even the English wanted him to become their prime minister. This kind of ubiquity is still coveted in contemporary politics, especially for independents who don’t have party imagery to lean on. “The candidate is the product, and you need to be able to sell that product to the electorate – to the market – within a ******* of about four months,” Warringah MP Zali Steggall told AAP. Ms Steggall took *********** politics by storm when she unseated former prime minister Tony Abbott from a blue-ribbon Liberal electorate in 2019. Part of her success can be traced to the constant presence of her brand, which she achieved by turning everyday objects used by her Northern Beaches supporters into merchandise. Teal swimming caps, earrings and umbrellas all feature in her store, while visors were recently added after some older female voters said they wanted a hat that wouldn’t upset their hair. As a result, merch wasn’t something worn only by corflute-wielding volunteers, but by ordinary people going for a dip or getting a coffee. “It’s a lot more subtle and it’s really embedded in the community, which is so much more powerful than a paid person handing out flyers about something they don’t know,” she said. Her merchandise is also a way to build volunteer relationships, and her new logo – which features a leaf of pink on the dot of Zali’s “i” – pays homage to neighbouring crossbencher Kylea Tink after her North Sydney electorate was dissolved in a redistribution that pushed members of her team to the Warringah effort. “I know it’s not huge, but they love it and I love that they know that we’re recognising them,” Ms Steggall said. Messaging on everyday items isn’t an entirely new concept. Before the proliferation of lighters, politicians like Australia’s 10th prime minister Joseph Lyons put their faces on matchbooks. Many also tried to get their brands in front of Australians by following technological changes and putting their messages on popular mediums. In the same way Mr Albanese or Opposition Leader Peter Dutton have posted to short-form video platform TikTok, ahead of the 1940 election, Country Party leader Archie Cameron put his face on cinema slides that would flash on theatre screens for 30 seconds. During the heyday of the graphic novel, Labor also published their economic message in a comic book, which included vibrant illustrations of former prime minister John Curtin to play on his popularity. This was not a common way to promote a politician and a response comic book was released soon afterwards alerting voters to the “dangers” of socialism. Campaign materials have since become more uniform as candidates have aligned with the design languages of their parties. The Greens, which were born out of the environmental movement around Tasmania’s Franklin Dam, have continued to use the triangle iconography first associated with that protest – though its newer merchandise tends to focus more on its policies rather than the party. The Liberals have yet to unveil their 2025 collection, but the party has historically played it safe with dark blue shirts or polos and a white logo accent. Getting an early start on the merchandise competition has proved fruitful for Labor. “The sports socks have been extremely popular already and we expect the demand to continue to grow on all products in the lead up to the election,” a spokesperson said. 4. I’m 45, make $52K/year, have $120K in savings and contribute $6K annually to my 403(b) — Can I retire at 67? I’m 45, make $52K/year, have $120K in savings and contribute $6K annually to my 403(b) — Can I retire at 67? I’m 45, single, earn $52K/year with $120K in retirement savings and my house will be paid off in 9 years. I contribute $6K annually to my 403(b). Is that enough to retire comfortably at 67? You may have fewer years to save for retirement than you did earlier in your career, but you still have time to build your nest egg. Ideally, by the time you’re 45, you should have saved around three to four times your current income toward a comfortable retirement. So you’re just a little behind where you need to be if you earn $52,000 and you have $120,000 put away. Still, you’ve saved twice as much as many of your peers. Among 45- to 54-year-olds, the median 401(k) balance in Vanguard defined benefit plans is $60,763. And the $6,000 you invest annually in your 403(b) tax-sheltered annuity plan will help to grow your nest egg, as will compound growth, which happens when the returns on your $120,000 are reinvested to increase your principal and help you earn even higher future returns. The good news is with those ongoing investments in your 403(b), you’re on track to have around $825,682.64 in your account in 22 years, assuming a 7% average annual return. But will that be enough? There are several ways to calculate how big your retirement nest egg must be, but one of the simplest is to assume you’ll need 10 times your final salary. Assuming a 2% annual raise, if you’re making $52,000 a year now, your final salary at the age of 67 will be around $80,000. Multiply that by 10, and you would need $800,000 to retire comfortably — a reasonable goal given your current savings plan. Read more: Home prices in America could fly through the roof in 2025 — here’s the big reason why and how to take full advantage (with as little as $10) As a retiree, your $825,682.64 nest egg would produce $33,027.31 in annual income, assuming you follow the 4% rule. Experts suggest a 4% withdrawal rate to prevent running out of money over a 30-year retirement ******* if you cap withdrawals at 4% of your balance in year one and adjust up for inflation each year. Combine that with $33,027.31 with Social Security benefits, designed to 40% of your earnings, and you should have a retirement income of approximately $56,273 — a full 80% of your final salary. You’re doing well, given experts suggest you need a minimum of 70% of your pre-retirement earnings to live on. Story Continues While you’re on track to retire at 67, saving a little more may not be a bad idea. Many people hope to stop working late in their 60s but end up being forced to retire earlier because their health fails, job opportunities dry up, or they need to help out their family. If you have to stop working sooner than expected, or want a more lavish retirement, growing a ******* nest egg will help set you up for success. You can work with a financial advisor to help you set personalized goals for your retirement and budget to increase savings. You may also want to save a portion of any raises you get to increase your retirement plan contributions. You won’t miss this money if you put it into savings right away. You already have a great start towards retirement, but you won’t regret having a little extra as a retiree. This article provides information only and should not be construed as advice. 7. American Airlines will start boarding flights earlier. Here’s why. American Airlines will start boarding flights earlier. Here’s why. American Airlines continues to tweak its boarding process with a goal of making getting on the plane more efficient – and less likely for passengers to have to gate check their carry-on bags. Starting May 1, the airline will add five minutes to the overall boarding time for all of its flights. Five minutes might not seem like much, but American Airlines spokesperson Rachel Warner says, “This extra time will deliver a smoother boarding experience for customers by allowing for pauses between boarding groups, relieving congestion on the jet bridge, and allowing customers to stow their bags and get settled before departure.” “In addition, American’s gate agents and flight attendants will have more time to complete their pre-departure work and deliver personalized service to our customers,” Warner added. “Flight attendants and gate agents will have more time to monitor and confirm when overhead bins are full, helping to reduce the number of involuntary gate-checked bags when bin space is still available.” American Airlines continues to tweak its boarding process in an effort to further improve the customer experience. Boarding will commence 35 minutes before departure (up from 30 minutes) on flights operated by Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft, and 40 minutes before departure on flights operated by Boeing 737, Airbus A321 and all widebody aircraft in American’s fleet once the change is implemented. Warner said that American plans to continue innovating its boarding process, and the change in boarding time will come after the airline introduces new technology in the fall to ensure travelers board with their assigned group. As of November, more than 100 airports served by American had technology that alerted gate agents when someone was trying to cut the line and board early, and the airline said customer feedback was largely positive. 10. Jess Jonassen ends big week by upstaging Perry in WPL Jess Jonassen ends big week by upstaging Perry in WPL Jess Jonassen is providing plenty of reminders to Australia’s selectors that she’s still a cricketing force at 32 as she delivered a third match-winning performance in five days for the rampant Delhi Capitals in India’s Women’s Premier League. The spinning allrounder, who’s been surplus to requirements for Australia over the past year, appears to be reinventing herself, having been shoved up the batting order to No.3 in Delhi’s ever-improving push for the title. On Saturday, she cracked an unbeaten 61 not out at first drop as the Capitals booked their place in the knockout stages of the tournament with a second-straight nine-wicket win in successive days, this time over champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru. On Tuesday, the rejuvenated Jonassen had made exactly the same score in the win over Gujarat and on Friday, had taken the key wickets in her 3-25 which sank Mumbai, both displays winning her the player-of-the-match award. This time, she probably would have made it a hat-trick if not for the blistering performance by her batting partner Shafali Verma, who cracked a spectacular unbeaten 80 off 43 ****** as they shared an unbeaten second-wicket stand of 146. The Ellyse Perry-inspired champions, RCB, once again left their fans feeling short-changed with a fourth successive home defeat in Bengaluru. Not that Perry let them down. As usual, the allrounder did her brilliant best to keep the faithful happy at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium after RCB has been inserted by Delhi skipper Meg Lanning, as she proved the mainstay of their 5-147 with an unbeaten 60 off 47 ******, featuring three sixes and three fours. Perry is now the holder of the orange cap as the season’s top scorer with 295 runs. It was also her record-equalling eighth WPL half-century, as she went past Lanning in their continuing ding-***** battle to be the highest all-time run-scorer in the competition. She now has 895, 48 more than Lanning, who had a rare failure in reply when who else but Perry should leap up to dismiss her for just two with a sharp catch at mid-on off Renuka Singh. But Jonassen and Shafali made light work of the chase, with the *********** left-hander, who’d been batting in the lower middle-order for most of the tournament, evidently relishing the move up the order as she bashed nine fours and a six off the 38 ****** she faced. “Jess has done an excellent job, came in and played beautifully,” said Lanning, whose side will definitely be in the playoffs after they moved on to 10 points, four clear of the chasing pack. As for Jonassen now nailing down her elevated place in the order, Lanning smiled: “She’s certainly keeping her hand up to keep doing it.” Source link #Jess #Jonassen #ends #big #week #upstaging #Perry #WPL Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  11. Bloomington restaurant makes changes following city switching its water source Bloomington restaurant makes changes following city switching its water source BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — A restaurant in Bloomington is making changes for the good of their customers. Shannon’s Five Star Restaurant, located on Mercer Avenue in Bloomington, has seen their tap water’s taste affected by the city’s change of water source from Lake Bloomington to Lake Evergreen. Bloomington switches primary water source Gayle Clem, general manager, said it is extremely important to them that they have beverage options to fit the accommodations of their customers. “Some of these customers are water drinkers, *******,” Clem said. “They don’t want sugary drinks. They don’t want caffeine, especially at lunchtime. So we’ve taken it upon ourselves because there’s been so many complaints daily, to start buying water, bottled water, and having it ready for our customers as needed.” The restaurant has started to purchase cases of bottled water to use for customers to drink, and gallon ***** of water to use for their soups and gravies. With the taste of the water being more unpleasant to many, it affected the taste of both, causing Shannon’s to switch to gallon *****. “It just takes one person to get one of our products, let’s say our one of our featured soups, that doesn’t taste right, and that, you know, could be the end of that customer ever ordering that soup again possibly or ever ordering another item from us,” Clem said. The bottled waters are $1 for customers, and Clem said people have been wanting to pay for it for the cleanliness. You are still able to order the tap water if you wish to. In an on-camera interview, Clem said that since Thursday afternoon when they got the pre-packaged water to Friday afternoon, they had gone through five cases already. Ed Andrews, water director for the city of Bloomington, said in a news release Friday evening that response from residents regarding the water had improved. “While seasonal taste and odor issues can occur, the additional steps we’ve taken seem to be improving quality, and we’re starting to hear more positive feedback from residents,” Andrews said. “There is still more to do, however, and we know many continue to be impacted by the issue.” Jeff Jurgens addressed the source switch in the news release as well, saying he tried the water himself. “This morning, I tasted the water at a local restaurant, and it still had a bad taste,” Jurgens said. “Clearly, the issue has not improved everywhere in the City. That’s why we remain fully committed to aggressively addressing it until every resident and business has quality drinking water.” Shannon’s will start to use the pre-packaged water for their coffees and teas on Saturday. 13. Eight-second law: New law to tackle goalkeeper time-wasting introduced Eight-second law: New law to tackle goalkeeper time-wasting introduced A goalkeeper holding the ball for more than eight seconds will be punished with a corner for the opposition from this summer. The new law was unanimously approved by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) at its annual general meeting in Northern Ireland on Saturday, and will be in place at Fifa’s Club World Cup, which takes place in the USA from 15 June to 13 July. Under the current law keepers should be punished if they hold the ball for more than six seconds, with the opposition being awarded an indirect free-kick. But the CEO of the Football Association of Wales (FAW) Noel Mooney said implementation of the six-second rule had “dissolved over time” and it is hoped that the new law will lead to a reduction in time wasting. Already trialled in over 400 games in three different competitions, including the Premier League 2, referees will also warn the goalkeepers with a five-second countdown before they are penalised. Fifa secretary general Mattias Grafstrom said: “We had the test and the test was very successful. The referees didn’t have to signal for a corner [often].” The IFAB also voted to continue offside trials in which the attacker will be ruled onside if his torso is level with the second to last defender. 14. Man City survive scare to reach FA Cup quarter-finals Man City survive scare to reach FA Cup quarter-finals Teenager Nico O’Reilly has struck twice as Manchester City came from behind to beat plucky Plymouth Argyle 3-1 in the FA Cup fifth round. The Premier League champions were stunned as Maksym Talovierov headed the Championship strugglers into a shock 38th-minute lead at Etihad Stadium. Yet any hopes the Pilgrims had of extending their unlikely cup run after surprise wins over Brentford and defending champions Liverpool were snuffed out by O’Reilly. The 19-year-old, operating as a makeshift left-back, headed an equaliser before the break and then repeated the feat 14 minutes from time. Kevin De Bruyne cemented City’s place in the quarter-finals with their third goal in the last minute. Crystal Palace beat Millwall 3-1 after visiting goalkeeper Liam Roberts was sent off in the eighth minute for kicking forward Jean-Philippe Mateta in the face. Roberts’ wild attempt to make a clearance led to Mateta having to be carried off on a stretcher and taken to a hospital with a head injury. Palace took a 2-0 lead through an own goal by Japhet Tanganga and an easy tap-in from Daniel Munoz, but bitter London rivals Millwall got back in the game when Wes Harding scored in the 14th minute added time after the lengthy stoppage to treat Mateta. Striker Eddie Nketiah, who came on for Mateta, added the third with a looping header in the 81st. Bournemouth beat fellow Premier League side Wolves 5-4 on penalties in an eventful game that saw Matheus Cunha score a spectacular equaliser before getting sent off for headbutting. The penalty shootout also had its share of drama, as Wolves had a chance to win it after goalkeeper Sam Johnstone saved Bournemouth’s fourth spot kick from Dean Huijsen. But Matt Doherty dragged his penalty wide, and Boubacar Traore also missed for Wolves as his effort hit the crossbar. Luis Sinisterra converted the decisive kick for the Cherries. Preston North End also reached the last eight with a 3-0 win over Burnley. It was a rematch of their meeting two weeks ago in the Championship, when Burnely’s Hannibal Mejbri accused Preston’s Milutin Osmajic of racially abusing him during the match. Saturday’s game began with Burnley’s players refusing to shake hands with Osmajic, but the Montenegro international responded by scoring the second goal just before halftime and then cupped his hands to his ears toward the visiting fans. Robbie Brady had opened the scoring by curling home a superb free kick in the 31st minute and Will Keane added the third in the 74th. With PA. 15. Exclusive-Aerospace industry scrambles to deal with fallout from huge US factory fire Exclusive-Aerospace industry scrambles to deal with fallout from huge US factory fire By Allison Lampert and Tim Hepher (Reuters) – Boeing and other top aerospace firms are scouring their supply chains to determine their exposure to a major fire last week at a Philadelphia-area parts factory that has set off alarm bells across the industry, people familiar with the matter said. The days-long fire at SPS Technologies’ century-old factory could put pressure on the industry’s already strapped supply chain. GE Aerospace and others are now trying to figure out who can replace the factory’s lost production and also identify who has spare parts, the people said. Both Boeing and France’s Safran contacted suppliers asking about the potential effects, according to letters seen by Reuters. The fire, which caused no fatalities, is the latest in a string of supply setbacks in aerospace. This stadium-sized facility was crucial to the production of key parts, and some analysts warned that its loss could further strain the industry’s ability to boost output. SPS products include titanium fasteners of the kind used to assemble carbon-fiber jets like the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350. Some fasteners produced at the factory are also highly specialized and not easily sourced by other manufacturers, analysts and industry executives said. Boeing and European rival Airbus were already facing supply snags as they try to boost airplane output. “There’s only so much inventory of this out there, and that something’s going to have to change really fast to avoid potential (problems) that could affect production rates,” said AeroDynamic Advisory Managing Director Kevin Michaels. In a letter sent to suppliers following the February 17 fire seen by Reuters, Boeing asked the companies whether they regularly used parts from the SPS factory, located in Jenkintown, and to explain the impact if SPS could not ship parts that were ordered. A Boeing spokesperson said it is “working with suppliers to assess impacts and … taking steps to manage any impacts.” CEO Kelly Ortberg said last week in brief comments that he expected some disruption from the fire. French engine and landing gear maker Safran also contacted suppliers to see if they purchase directly from SPS, according to letters seen by Reuters and two suppliers. “We are assessing the situation with our supply chain and seeking alternative sources,” a Safran spokesperson said. Engine maker GE Aerospace, the world’s largest aerospace firm, said it had sent teams to SPS and was looking at alternative manufacturing sites and backup suppliers. Story Continues “We are taking proactive steps to minimize disruption and to ensure continued delivery to our customers,” a spokesperson said. A third industry source said SPS is also a significant supplier to Europe’s Airbus. “It is still early to confirm the extent of our exposure, however we expect the impact to be limited for our operations,” an Airbus spokesperson said. SUPPLY CONTEST SPS is part of Berkshire Hathaway-owned Precision Castparts Corp (PCC), which was not immediately available for comment. SPS’s website claims that “it’s hard to find an aircraft” that does not contain some of its products. The near 600,000-square-foot (5.6-hectare) facility specialized in high-strength nuts and bolts for engines, wings, fuselages and landing gear, according to the SPS website. The fire burned for several days before the flames were fully extinguished on February 22, leaving the plant gutted. Planemakers have ample inventory of the parts they handle on a daily basis, but the production gap left by the fire sets the stage for a potential contest to secure supplies down the road. One senior supplier went so far as to predict “rationing” by distributors unless alternatives can be found. Two executives at other fastener companies said they were being bombarded with requests in the wake of the fire, with one saying he had received dozens of queries in two days. While most SPS parts are produced by multiple suppliers, some portions of these aircraft fasteners were higher value and complex parts only produced by SPS, according to one of the two fastener company executives who spoke on condition of anonymity. It can take years for another factory to obtain the qualifications to produce them, he added. “These are not commodity fasteners,” Michaels said, adding that there is “a lot of concern given the large number of sole-source fasteners and unique capabilities associated with this facility.” ********* business jet maker Bombardier told Reuters that most of its parts can be sourced elsewhere. The factory still had some wooden floors and structures, according to two sources who had visited the site before the blaze. Even then, a shipment meant to be sent to Boeing survived the fire but is currently inaccessible, Boeing’s Ortberg told analysts on February 20. “That’s the kind of thing we’re really working through on a real-time basis. It looks like pretty substantial damage.” (Reporting By Allison Lampert in Montreal and Tim Hepher in Paris; Editing by David Gaffen and Marguerita Choy) Source link #ExclusiveAerospace #industry #scrambles #deal #fallout #huge #factory #fire Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

  20. NVIDIA Fans Are Coping Hard With Pseudo-Tricks to Fix the Biggest 5000 Series Issue Right Now NVIDIA Fans Are Coping Hard With Pseudo-Tricks to Fix the Biggest 5000 Series Issue Right Now Nvidia’s RTX 5000 series continues to be a dumpster fire, with many issues plaguing the tech giant’s latest GPU launch. Ranging from molten connectors to GPUs with entire manufacturing problems, the list keeps piling up for Nvidia, and things are not looking good. A recent controversy revealed that certain RTX 5090 GPUs were missing a small portion of their ROPs (Render Output Unit or Raster Operations Pipeline) – which now seems to have extended into other 5000 series GPUs as well. Nvidia’s RTX 5080 also affected by missing ROPs and decaying performance The RTX 5090s have missing ROPs | Image Credit: Nvidia A recent post on the r/nvidia subreddit has gained traction, with user u/gingeraffe90 posting an alleged screenshot of their RTX 5080 missing around 8 ROPs – as per GPU-Z stats. For reference, the stock RTX 5080 should come bundled with a total of 112 ROPs, while OP’s GPU came with 104 ROPs instead. This isn’t the first fumble with ROPs that has plagued Nvidia though – the issue was prevalent in the RTX 5070 Ti and 5090 class of graphics cards, and Nvidia had issued an official statement regarding the same, urging consumers to seek replacements from vendors. With the problem extending into the RTX 5080 cards as well, this just spells misery for consumers, and might allude to the fact that the problem could be indicative of all RTX 5000 series cards – and not just the two cards Nvidia explicitly mentioned. Comment byu/gingeraffe90 from discussion innvidia While these ROPs are (supposedly) intact within the Founders Edition versions of the card, these are almost impossible to snag, which is saying something given how difficult it is to find even vendor-specific versions. Comment byu/gingeraffe90 from discussion innvidia Consumers are rightfully unamused, and one could say that grabbing an Nvidia RTX 5000 series card is like playing with dice – you never know when you might snag an inferior version with missing ROPs. Quality control has not been Nvidia’s forte for this generation. Comment byu/gingeraffe90 from discussion innvidia This brings forward the age old wisdom of not buying products at launch, and thereby avoiding becoming an alpha tester in the process. Nvidia is beta testing with its 5000 series | Image Credit: Nvidia Comment byu/gingeraffe90 from discussion innvidia Comment byu/gingeraffe90 from discussion innvidia While some may suggest installing a fresh version of the latest Nvidia drivers in order to ‘alleviate’ the issue, this makes little sense in practice. After all, no amount of DDU trickery and software updates can solve a hardware defect which can result in a loss of up to 15% of your expected in-game performance. To reiterate, reinstalling drivers cannot fix hardware level issues, and the only way to go about this would be to have the card replaced in its entirety. Nvidia could be in big trouble Nvidia could face stiff competition from AMD | Image Credit: AMD Nvidia is having a rather rough launch, and the lack of ROPs on the rest of the RTX 5000 series lineup is not boding well for them. The issue is snowballing out of control, and they could soon be facing a class action lawsuit. Coupled with AMD’s massively hyped RX 9000 series launch, as well as Intel’s Battlemage Arc GPUs offering the same performance at a fraction of the price, Nvidia could quickly lose its footing in the GPU market. Software trickery such as DLSS and frame generation is no substitute for real, rendered frames after all. How this pans out in the long run remains to be seen, but one thing is for certain – Nvidia is quickly losing favor among customers. 22. Private plane ****** that killed a pilot could be tied to known landing gear issue, NTSB report says Private plane ****** that killed a pilot could be tied to known landing gear issue, NTSB report says PHOENIX (AP) — Prior damage to the landing gear on a private jet owned by Mötley Crüe singer Vince Neil could have contributed to a fatal ****** earlier this month, according to a preliminary report released Thursday by the National Transportation Safety Board. Months before the aircraft veered off a runway in Arizona and hit a business jet, killing one person, the same flight crew had a landing issue with the Learjet in Oklahoma in June 2024. The jet took a hard landing, causing both left main landing gear tires to burst. The pilot hired a mechanic to perform a hard landing inspection, which prompted the removal of both main landing gear for the inspection, according to the report. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. Later that year, another mechanic noted that the left landing gear took an “excessive” amount of grease, but nothing appeared “unusual,” the report said. The flight crew didn’t make any radio calls indicating there was a possible problem with the landing gear. “That’s kind of a red flag,” said Erwin Winkler, chief flight instructor and director of maintenance at Tucson Flight School, referring to extraordinary amount of grease. The NTSB said the landing gear has disconnected from the airframe in at least three other events because a certain bolt was not properly engaged through a pin. It looks like the pin, which the grease must flow through, might have not been installed correctly, Winkler said. The fatal ****** killed 78-year-old Joie Vitosky, one of the two pilots on board, according to the Scottsdale Police Department. 24. Walsh takes deep breath in Broncos quest for excellence Walsh takes deep breath in Broncos quest for excellence Brisbane fullback Reece Walsh has embraced a breathing technique adopted by US Navy SEALS as he investigates innovative ways to take his game to the next level. The flamboyance, speed and skillset of 22-year-old Walsh are well known to watchers of the NRL. What is less understood is his deep thinking about his game away from the spotlight. Walsh, who on occasions sleeps with tape over his mouth and wears nasal strips to maximise oxygen flow, has embraced various breathing techniques. One of the most recent is known as ‘box breathing’, where a person exhales, inhales and then holds their breath at regular intervals. The method is used by US Navy SEALS to help them to remain calm and alert in pressure-cooker situations. “The best athletes in the world are all doing a thing called box breathing which is something we spoke about (at the Broncos) when we went in camp,” Walsh told AAP. “It’s something I am getting into. “For me it is all about maximising my full potential and trying to find stuff that works. You don’t know unless you know, if you get what I mean. So you just dive in and have a crack. “”I have a nose strip which just opens up your nasal passages and allows you to breath better. “When you tape your mouth you can get a bit freaked out but it helps with breathing. “Some of it might seem a bit weird at times but you just never know what you might find that works for you.” Walsh has more written about him than most players in the NRL and is constantly in the headlines. To handle the pressure he is under at times he has been prepared to seek quality advice, which is why he has turned to Collingwood and Melbourne Storm sport and exercise psychologist Jacqui Louder for assistance. “I knew she worked with (Cameron) Munster when he had his good years at the Storm,” Walsh said. “I have spoken to Jacqui a few times already this year and it is good to have an outside voice that’s not within the four walls. She is someone you can be open and honest with. .”She gives you little cues to think about which really help when you are in certain situations.” Louder has helped Walsh to focus on what really matters as he negotiates his way through the hurly burly of the NRL “A key (message of Louder’s) is that I just have to worry about myself, my job and my role and not get flustered about the things that I can’t control,” Walsh said. Walsh’s quest for excellence even extends to “toe spreaders” which separate each toe to improve foot mobility, vital for a speed ****** such as himself. “I’ve been getting into toe spreaders at the moment and trying to get a few of the boys into it as well,” Walsh grinned. “My feet get sore at times so I chuck the toe spreaders on to help with the realignment and blood flow.” Walsh will get his first crack at the new NRL season on Thursday against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium when the Broncos line up for the first time in the big league under new coach Michael Maguire.
