On Thursday, Games Workshop revealed a new and updated version of the classic RTS, Warhammer 40k Dawn of War, during its Skulls videogame showcase. Superficially, this looks like little more than a lick of paint and a bundle of all the expansion content for the venerable game - but the fact that it's moving to a 64 bit engine is incredible news for the game's well-established modding community. Like many other Elder Scrolls fans, I dove straight into The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered when it was released. With a wonderful dose of nostalgia, stepping back into Cyrodiil seems like the perfect way to fill the long gap until the next installment of the series. However, the more I played, the more my mind drifted to how stripped back many of Skyrim's mechanics and features were, and this only got worse as I started playing through one of my favorite guild questlines. The United States Federal Trade Commission, or FTC, has officially dropped its case opposing Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Many people will be surprised that the case was still being pursued, considering that the FTC’s original request for an injunction on the deal was denied in July 2023. Microsoft completed the $68.7 billion acquisition in October of that year, and many Activision Blizzard games have since been released on Xbox Game Pass. View the full article

It's a long weekend ahead of us, my fellow bots! With a Monday holiday to look forward to in parts of the world, including the US and ***, which means there's an extra day to play some games before heading back to work! Huzzah! To top it off, there's some pretty good indie offerings released this week to play, as well as chances to go back into the old backlog ahead of next week's big release (Elden Ring Nightreign, anyone?) But enough waffle, let's jump straight into it. [Hidden Content] I really want to play Fantasy Life i, but I'm a sucker for physical media and with the recent news that the game has been cancelled physically in the West, I rebelled against that noise and decided to import it from Asia instead so I can have it on my shelf. Unfortunately, that means I won't be able to spend the long weekend playing a game I've been looking forward to for a while—but you can all pick it up and play it on my behalf at least! Instead, I think I might give Monster Train 2 a try. My colleagues have been saying what a good deck builder Monster Train 2 is, but I'm worried it won't be my cup of tea. I was also looking into Spligate 2, but I'm kind of all tapped out when it comes to shooters currently. I can't really think of anything else new from the past week that would suit my tastebuds, so there's always the option of Shiny hunting some Pokémon on various games as well, or playing Elden Ring on a new save file to remind myself of the controls ahead of the multiplayer game releasing next week. So many options... so little time. But enough about me, what are you plotting for your weekend, Destructoid fam? Let me know in the comments below! The post What are you playing this weekend, Destructoid? appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article

I woke up this morning to the strangest 'leak' news I've ever heard in a while, with reports of a secret Nintendo event hosting mock-ups of Switch 2 presentations, with a reported Zelda 2025 placeholder on so many pictures. These pictures and videos have, of course, been taken down by Nintendo Ninjas overnight but that hasn't stopped many content creators and publications talking about them (I guess now I'm included in that) spewing rumors of an unannounced Zelda game coming this year that Nintendo is 'going to show off at Summer Game Fest' among other clickbait titles. And as I sat there scrolling through everything, I had to wonder—did everyone forget about Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment? [Hidden Content] That's the big Zelda title coming in 2025, and it was announced during the Switch 2 presentation event. It's set as a prequel to Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and is likely the big Zelda 2025 title that the event mentioned. It's no surprise most folks hadn't talked about it, as the only people who seem to be talking about it are the ones who have apparently forgotten the game's existence. Are we really stretched for content at the moment, where we are forgetting games on purpose in hopes of driving clicks? I get a lot of people don't remember every game coming out, but come on now. Now, what is interesting to come out of this is conversations on Reddit threads that have likened the leaked text to Echoes of Wisdom text font, with some speculating that Echoes could get a Switch 2 expansion or extra content akin to Mario Party Jambooree, and I don't dispute that idea. But a brand new Zelda game that isn't Age of Imprisonment? I find the chances very unlikely. I'll tell you what! If a brand new Zelda game releases by the end of the year that isn't a remake, DLC, or remaster (or heck, Zelda: Wind Waker on Gamecube virtual console could even count as Zelda 2025 at this rate), I will eat my Tunic. You can hold me to that, Destructoid. The post Those Zelda 2025 leaks are probably just Age of Imprisonment, right? appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
