  11. The associate director of Assassin’s Creed Shadows says future games in the series could have two protagonists, despite the furore over Yasuke and Naoe. Following its initial announcement, Assassin’s Creed Shadows received criticism from some corners of the internet, partly because one of the co-protagonists, Yasuke, is a ****** samurai. Some accused Ubisoft of being ‘woke’ by featuring Yasuke in the game, even though Yasuke was an actual person in real life. The game’s director Charles Benoit defended the decision, at the time, telling The ********* Press last year that Yasuke was also chosen so that players “can discover Japan through the eyes of a foreigner” at the same time as he does. 15. Week 7 Trials in ARC Raiders is now live, and to earn its various rewards, we need to complete five different tasks. Like the previous weeks, you'll have to get three stars for each task to receive the best available rewards. The tasks for the seventh week are primarily related to taking down specific types of ARC enemies. This guide will help you understand the nature of every task and how you can three-star them. Table of contentsARC Raiders Week 7 Trials guideDestroy Ticks, Fireballs, and PopsSearch Supply DropsDamage WaspsDamage BastionsDamage Queens or MatriarchsARC Raiders Week 7 Trials guide The Week 7 Trials can be broken down into five separate tasks. Destroy Ticks, Fireballs, and PopsSearch Supply DropsDamage WaspsDamage BastionsDamage Queens or Matriarchs Screenshot by Destructoid Destroy Ticks, Fireballs, and Pops This is the easiest of all tasks, as Fireballs are extremely common. You can run into them across large buildings on any map. I will recommend playing in Stella Montis as the region has plenty of Ticks and Fireballs. Encountering more of them will allow you to damage them repeatedly until you hit three stars. There's no specific spot, and Fireballs are pretty common in general. Search Supply Drops All maps in ARC Raiders have Supply Call Stations located all over the regions. When you interact with them, you can then call Supply Drops at the location. Supply Drops provide plenty of valuable loot for you to add to your inventory. Repeat this process a few times to earn three tasks at this rank. Damage Wasps One of the easier aerial ARCs, Wasps can be found near larger buildings. You can also find them near elevators, but be careful as they're rarely alone. Moreover, they can also call in larger ARCs, so try to destroy them as quickly as possible. To take down a Wasp, you'll want to target its rotors specifically. Once unbalanced, it won't be able to target you efficiently. Damage Bastions I have yet to find a specific spot after hours of gameplay where you can always find the Bastion. I have encountered them the most on Blue Gate, so you can begin your search there. Typically, you won't want to get caught in front of a Bastion since its guns will absolutely shred you. Instead, try to target the large cylinders on its back. This job will be easier if you're playing in a group, as one of you can distract it, allowing the other players to hit it. Damage Queens or Matriarchs Screenshot and remix by Destructoid This is arguably the hardest of the five tasks. While you don't have to kill a Queen/Matriarch, it will target you the moment you hit it for the first time. I have attached a map where you're almost guaranteed to either find a Queen or Matriarch (based on whether it has spawned as per the map condition). Make sure to dodge the rockets, and always keep distance (especially if it's the Queen you're up against). 16. Shenmue developer Ys Net has threatened legal action over a widely-circulated video designed to look like leaked footage of Shenmue 4. The footage popped up on social media last week and was promptly shared by numerous websites, even as questions regarding the video's origins and authenticity swirled. Now, Ys Net has released a statement to confirm that the footage "has absolutely no connection" to itself and uses the company's logo without permission. Additionally, Ys Net claimed that such acts "may amount to trademark infringement and unfair competition" and therefore it was now preparing "appropriate measures" and exploring legal options. Breaking News A trailer for Shenmue IV appears to have been leaked from *****. It is not yet verified by ***** but it seems to be real. [Hidden Content] — SuperSisi (@SuperSisi) December 5, 2025 While some fans took the lengthy "Shenmue 4" clip as too elaborate to be fake, others pointed to a handful of wonky animation effects and its fan-baiting story to suggest it was an elaborate creation made by a fan using generative AI. Just last month, IGN reported on the increasingly convincing AI-generated GTA 6 "leaks" that are racking up millions of views on social media, as many users simply take what they see at face value. While generative AI and deepfake technology are nothing new, the past few months have seen a fresh generation of tools such as Sora 2 and Google's Nano Banana Pro pump out generated content that's now increasingly difficult to distinguish from the real thing. Last week's Shenmue 4 video is, seemingly, yet another example of this. "Ys Net Inc. has confirmed that a video has been posted on social media which uses our company logo without permission, falsely giving the impression that it is an an official 'Shenmue 4' related video produced by us," the company wrote. "This video has absolutely no connection to Ys Net. Furthermore, at this time, Ys Net has not released any trailers, footage or other promotional materials related to 'Shenmue 4.' "We recognize that the unauthorized use of our logo, and any act that misleads viewers into believing such content is official, constitutes a serious issues that may amount to trademark infringement and unfair competition. W are currently working with relevant parties and preparing appropriate measures, including potential legal action. "We sincerely apologize to our fans and all related parties for any confusion this may have caused. We will continue to ensure the proper and accurate dissemination of information, and we ask for your understanding and cooperation." As of now, it's unknown if a fourth major Shenmue game will ever get made, though the franchise's hardcore fanbase certainly hope it eventually happens. Last year, a group of fans paid to briefly rent a billboard in New York's Times Square to highlight their hopes for a Shenmue 4. Alas, it's unknown if the stunt had much impact. Currently, Shenmue creator Yu Suzuki is working on an enhanced version of Shenmue 3, which wll see the 2019 action adventure release on new platforms with new features and enhanced visuals. Suzuki told IGN in 2023 that he wants to create a fourth game eventually but, following the poor critical reception of the third game, would look to make it more accessible to new fans. "Rejoining Ryo Hazuki’s quest to avenge his father is exciting, but Shenmue 3 feels like a game that has ignored the innovation and progress of the last 20 years of video game development," IGN wrote in our Shenmue 3 review, scoring the game 5/10. 20. It’s time to admit, before God and the good readers of Ars Technica, that I have a problem. I love roguelikes. Reader, I can’t get enough of them. If there’s even a whisper of a hot new roguelike on Steam, I’m there. You may call them arcane, repetitive, or maddeningly difficult; I call them heaven. The second best part of video games is taking a puny little character and, over 100 hours, transforming that adventurer into a god of destruction. The best thing about video games is doing the same thing in under an hour. Beat a combat encounter, get an upgrade. Enter a new area, choose a new item. Put together a build and watch it sing. If you die—immediately ending your ascent and returning you to the beginning of the game—you’ll often make a pit stop at a home base to unlock new goodies to help you on your next run. (Some people distiguish between roguelikes and “roguelites,” with the latter including permanent, between-run upgrades. For simplicity’s sake, I’ll use “roguelike” as an umbrella term).
