  1. Doom The Dark Ages is available on early access with the full launch coming soon, but the performances so far have been dodgy to say the least. While console users have found things pretty smooth till now, the same can't be said about those who are on PC. A major issue earlier prevented Nvidia users from being able to start early access on time, but that problem has been fixed. However, freezes, crashes, and lag-related incidents have been pretty common, and here are some tips and tricks to try in the meantime. Doom The Dark Ages lag and ****** fix It appears that the current version of the game on PC has some optimization issues. If you're using an Nvidia graphics card, make sure to update your drivers. There's a false error message that pops up when you start the game for the first time. You can ignore it and proceed to play, but make sure that your drivers are updated to the latest version. It's better to cap the max FPS to 60 for the time being. This will smooth the FPS; if you don't put a limit, there's a chance for the client to push it to an unrealistic target, and cause stutters in the process. There are a few incidents on Doom The Dark Ages' Steam forum about some players encountering crashes when the FPS drops suddenly from stuttering. Putting a cap on maximum FPS will hopefully prevent that issue. For the time being, it's better to reduce the overall graphic settings from the optimum (even if your hardware can handle it). This will reduce the load on your setup, and ensures that stutters and lags, however occasional they might be, don't happen at all. Additionally, you can turn off V-Sync as that will decrease the load on your setup. These are the current settings I have been running on my system. It uses an RTX 3060 and Ryzen 5600G (not amazing, but gets the work done). This set of settings has prevented any incidents of crashes and FPS drops on a consistent basis. There's been a bit of random stutters, but it's ignorable (happens if there are too many enemies at the same location). 2. Yes, yes, I'm opting for the scoundrel's gambit and reporting on a Reddit post. Of a self-imposed challenge run, no less! But I adored the bejeezus out of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and figured this was worth sharing in case it convinces a couple of you to give it a go. Redditor HunterIV4 has chronicled their journey to beat the RPG without dodging, parrying, or even using the powerful gradient parries, in a bid to show that Sekiro reflexes aren't as crucial to success as they might seem. 5. Doom The Dark Ages has a fair amount of weapons to yield, but not all of them are built equal. Players will keep unlocking new guns as they clear the main chapters. Every gun in the game fits into specific archetypes, and they have their use-case scenarios. However, some of the weapons are simply better in terms of their damage potential, nature of ammo, and more. This tier list will help you to separate the wolves from the sheep and prioritize using the best weapons. Doom The Dark Ages weapons tier list There are over 10 weapons to unlock, and the process is pretty easy. Once you have enough weapons at your disposal, you'll have to choose the best ones possible. I have used four different tiers for classifying the weapons. S-tier: These are the best possible weapons to yield. They're versatile, easy to use, and you will hardly ever run out of ammo.A-tier: These are pretty decent weapons that can even match the S-tier options in their right use-case scenario.B-tier: These are okay weapons that can be highly useful in niche scenarios. Some of them would be higher tiers if it were easier to use them.C-tier: Only use these weapons if you are either a fan of them, or want to die at the hands of your enemies frequently. While damage is an important factor of consideration for the tier list, I have also considered how easy/difficult it is to use a particular weapon. Some weapons have made it to high tiers because you'll almost never run out of their ammo, and they're more versatile to use. Doom The Dark Ages S-tier weapons Screenshot by Destructoid Combat Shotgun: Your first weapon could well be the last one if you're getting the upgrades done correctly.Ballistic Force Crossbow: An incredibly powerful weapon that can clear waves of enemies in seconds. Despite its limited ammo capacity, this crossbow is a top-tier choice, and it's also pretty easy to use.Impaler: This gun might not be the favorite of all players, but it has scary damage potential. However, it's a hard weapon to master, and you'll have to master the art of parries and accurate headshots to make it perform at its full potential.Doom The Dark Ages A-tier weapons Screenshot by Destructoid Accelerator: This is the best plasma weapon in my books, and it can even be considered an S-tier with the Heatblast upgrade. You can also charge the gun up to eliminate stronger enemies, and you will almost never run out of ammo with the Heatblast upgrade.Ravager: The Ravager is up there with the Ballistic Force Crossbow in terms of damage. That said, you get this weapon really late, which is slightly sad (as you can use it for only a short *******).Shredder: Like the Combat Shotgun, you'll really need to get your upgrades sorted early to make the Shredder feel effective. While the DPS is low, it's incredibly versatile and offers amazing ammo management.Rocket Launcher: This is the extreme of all weapons. On one hand, you can practically take down any enemy with a single hit, and also enjoy AoE damage. On the other hand, the ammo is extremely scarce, which means you won't be able to use it consistently.Doom The Dark Ages B-tier weapons Screenshot by Destructoid Super Shotgun: While this version is more fun to use than the Combat Shotgun, the latter is far more versatile and useful. The Super Shotgun is more useful when you're up against a pesky boss, as the priority in such cases should be higher damage.Cycler: Pretty good Plasma weapon, that does a lot of things with the correct upgrades. While it deals pretty much the same damage as the Accelerator, there's no auto ammo recharge available for the Cycler.Grenade Launcher: A fun weapon to use that can be pretty good at close range. However, the ammo capacity is pretty low, and there are better options from the ones mentioned above.Doom The Dark Ages C-tier weaponsChainshot: This weapon is extremely useful against armored enemies, but that's all it is about. The Eldritch Blessing upgrade certainly makes it better, but the overall use-case scenario is limited.Pulverizer: This weapon feels like a poorer version of the Ravager, and a very poor one at that. The Pulverizer doesn't have any good pickup, and the Ravager is a better version in every way possible. This weapon also has a very limited use-case scenario, just like the Chainshot. I have excluded items like the Saw and Power Gauntlets. You'll find that they're classified as weapons in the game, but I consider them as your defense. The Saw in particular can also classify as an S-tier weapon once you get a few upgrades in. The post Best weapons in Doom The Dark Ages – Weapons tier list appeared first on Destructoid. 7. Doom The Dark Ages is now available worldwide, and the first task for players will be to start clearing the story chapters. The main game is divided into different chapters, and players will progress gradually. While the mission structure is pretty linear, players can choose how to proceed. Almost all missions, barring a few, have extra content like Secrets and Toys that players can find if they invest extra hours into them. This guide will provide you with all the necessary information required to complete the campaign. Disclaimer: The list is still in work in terms of Secrets. Once we have the full list, it will be updated to include the new information. How many chapters are there in Doom The Dark Ages? The latest Doom title has a total of 22 chapters. You'll be unlocking the chapters gradually (all chapters stay locked by default). Once you finish a chapter, the next one will become available. Doom The Dark Ages is marked improvement in terms of content as Doom Eternal has just 13 missions. Let's take a look at all the chapters that are part of the main campaign. Screenshot by Destructoid Complete Doom The Dark Ages quest list Here's the complete list of the quests you'll have to complete, arranged in their order of appearance. However, the actual duration of them in most cases is definitely less, but it will also depend on the difficulty you choose. Playing the missions at higher difficulty will make things harder, and you'll require longer to eliminate the enemies. Screenshot by Destructoid You can also find Secrets in almost every mission (with a few exceptions), so make sure to explore all corners of the map. Ideally, you'll want to finish a chapter first, and then concentrate on exploring the map to unearth the Secrets. This is also necessary if you want to 100% every chapter, as merely completing it on your playthrough will only partially complete it. 8. Genshin Impact has finally revealed Skirk as a playable character in the latest drip marketing. She will be released in the upcoming version 5.7 update, which will go live in June. Additionally, we have several leaks from the beta showing Skirk's rarity, weapon type, and playstyle. Skirk will release in Genshin Impact 5.7 Genshin Impact developers have finally confirmed that Skirk will be released as a playable character in version 5.7. She is a new Cryo character, which shouldn't come as a surprise if you've been following the latest leaks. Skirk also had a slight model update, which some may or may not like because most of the ****** clothing around her upper chest was removed. The drip marketing post also features a small exchange between Vedrfolnir "The Visionary" and Surtalogi "The Foul." The former states: "Sin infests the firmament, calamity unfurls across the universe. You are free, and none now may proscribe you — yet your destiny remains bound to that of this world. Indeed, you shall send your disciple here in the near future." To which Surtalogi replies: "What? Me, a student? Such misfortune — for them, I mean… whenever they show up." This conversation seems to have happened before Surtalogi accepted Skirk as their student. "The Visionary" mentions that despite being free, Surtalogi's destiny is still bound to their world, and he will send his disciple here in the future. Interestingly, "The Foul" looks surprised about taking in a disciple but also considers this a misfortune for the student. Hopefully, we will learn more about Skirk and her master in the upcoming update. 21. Demonic Essence is one of the most important resources in Doom The Dark Ages, and obtaining it is crucial if you want to improve the Doom guy and take on the monsters constantly. Unlike typical resources, Demonic Essence can only be obtained from a specific type of enemy. This resource also has a unique purpose, as it allows you to increase your maximum health and armor. This guide will help you find more Demonic Essence. How to obtain Demonic Essence in Doom The Dark Ages Demonic Essence comes from a special form of enemies known as Leaders. These enemies will appear as their common variants, but they're far stronger. Leaders also have unique attacks, and some of them can be pretty deadly if you don't know how to dodge or parry. Typically, you'll come across at most one Leader in every quest, and they often tend to be the final boss battle in some cases. They're almost always surrounded by weaker enemies, which adds to the challenge. Leaders can also be of different types, so you'll have to focus on their respective weaknesses. Screenshot by Destructoid Defeating a Leader takes longer, so you should take care of the weaker enemies before you concentrate all your firepower on the Leader. They have a special animation once you defeat them, as the Doom guy will rip their heart out and put them out of their misery. This heart, obtained from a Leader, is Demonic Essence. You'll get a permanent upgrade that is applicable to your maximum Health, Shield, or Ammo. Unlike Sentinel Shrine upgrades, you can't choose which area to upgrade first. This will be pre-determined, but the upgrades are a must-have to prepare for the mid and late game. Any upgrade from Demonic Essence will be applicable as soon as you obtain it. The upgrades are also permanent, which is a nice thing to have. The upgrades will be minimal at first, but they all build up in the long run. Once you find a Leader, make sure to eliminate it to secure as much Demonic Essence as possible. The post How to get Demonic Essence in Doom The Dark Ages appeared first on Destructoid. 22. One of the most important aspects of Doom The Dark Ages is the upgrade part, which is key to improving your character. As you clear more chapters, you'll unlock new weapons and additional tools for your shield. They'll make you more powerful, but you'll need to upgrade them, too. Doing so will unlock new effects, some of which are crucial for particular enemies. This guide will help you understand the upgrade system and how to prioritize things. How to upgrade in Doom The Dark Ages The upgrade system of Doom The Dark Ages is fairly straightforward, but you'll need to plan carefully. You can't upgrade your weapons whenever you want. The resources required for upgrading are also finite, so you'll have to use them carefully. To start the upgrade process, you'll have to reach something called Sentinel Shrines. These shrines are highlighted in bright green, so it's very easy to spot them. Whenever you're near a Shrine, the game will alert you to its presence. The Sentinel Shrine allows you to upgrade your weapons, shield, and melee. You'll need Gold for upgrades, which you can find lying around the map as you explore. Certain enemies also reward you with Gold when you eliminate them. Screenshot by Destructoid Based on the early hours, Gold is quite limited, so you'll have to prioritize which upgrades to do first. Open the relevant section from a Sentinel Shrine, press the Space Bar, and confirm the purchase of an upgrade. Since upgrades are irreversible, make sure to read the text carefully to ensure that you don't end up wasting your resources. Should you upgrade your weapons, shield, or melee first? Based on the first few chapters, this is my priority list for upgrades. ShieldMeleeWeapons As you clear the early chapters, you'll unlock more weapons. You won't want to invest in any weapon upgrades until you have a fair idea of which is your favorite. Identify the ones that suit your play style before going in for the upgrades. Screenshot by Destructoid The Shield is absolutely incredible in both offense and defense, and spending heavily on them. One of my earliest upgrades allows my Saw Throws to chop through multiple shielded enemies at once. This is a perfect upgrade since shielded enemies take longer to take down. Unlike weapons, you'll be using the same shield throughout the game, and hence, any upgrades will be permanent. The last logic also applies to your melee weapons, and they're also a safe bet for upgrades. You'll be using these weapons heavily, and getting a few early upgrades won't be a bad investment. Below are the six default settings you can pick in Doom: The Dark Ages: Aspiring SlayerHurt Me PlentyUltra-ViolenceNightmarePandemoniumUltra-Nightmare Screenshot by Destructoid After choosing an option, you can customize it before you start the game. You can modify your Parry Window, enable enhanced targeting and empowered attacks, and reduce the damage you and the demons take. That way, if Nightmare's default settings are still too easy or Aspiring Slayer is a little too tough, you can change them to fit your preference. This'll change their name to have an "(M*)" symbol next to the difficulty's name, indicating that you modified it in some way. In Doom: The Dark Ages, Nightmare is considered a standard challenging difficulty with a tight parry window and aggressive enemies that hit harder. If you want to take the challenge a step further, you can switch to Ultra-Nightmare and Pandemonium for some unique modifiers. What is Pandemonium? Screenshot by Destructoid Pandemonium mode has the same Parry Window, enemy aggression, and damage modifiers as Nightmare. However, it adds a modifier that only lets you restart chapters using Life Sigils, limiting the number of times you can reset your progress or die. It isn't quite a one-life hardcore mode run, but it does encourage you to look out for Life Sigils and carefully watch your health so you don't die repeatedly. What is Ultra Nightmare mode? Screenshot by Destructoid Like Pandemonium mode, Ultra-Nightmare has the same base modifiers as Nightmare. However, Ultra-Nightmare is a hardcore mode, giving you only one life to complete Doom: The Dark Ages' entire campaign. Life Sigils will heal the Slayer, but they won't revive you or let you reset your chapter, unlike in Pandemonium. You'll also only save your progress with each chapter completion, forcing you to restart from the beginning of the chapter if you leave partway through. How to change your difficulty level in Doom: The Dark Ages Although Doom: The Dark Ages has some limitations with changing your difficulty, you can modify it at any point by heading into the Pause menu, navigating to Settings, and scrolling through the top bar until you find Difficulty. Here, you'll find the same modifiers from before you began your playthrough, letting you tweak your parry window and damage output to make the experience easier or more challenging, depending on your preferences. Screenshot by Destructoid There are a few limits to this. If you select Pandemonium or Ultra-Nightmare, you can't switch back to easier difficulties. Similarly, beginning with any difficulty between Aspiring Slayer and Nightmare locks you to the top four options, preventing you from attempting Pandemonium and Ultra-Nightmare halfway through the run. Aside from this, you can swap between Aspiring Slayer, Hurt Me Plenty, Ultra-Violence, and Nightmare whenever you wish. 24. FromSoftware's streak of creating outstanding dark fantasy RPGs is absolutely remarkable, and the deep lore and narrative threads that run throughout them are a huge part of what makes them so great. With Elden Ring Nightreign, though, I'd be understanding if narrative took a back seat. While some games like Destiny 2 have proven that you can mix online multiplayer action with brilliant storytelling, it's had years to work on its formula - for FromSoft, Nightreign is very much a first venture into this realm. However, I shouldn't have doubted the developer, because new details about Elden Ring Nightreign Remembrances show that the co-op game will feature storylines for each of its eight classes, which will be told across text-based lore, playable single-player snippets, and side objectives that you'll need to complete during multiplayer runs.
