Elden Ring: Nightreign brings co-op multiplayer to the forefront of From Software's hardcore PvE experience, but you don't have to play with friends. In fact, you don't have to play with anyone at all. There is indeed an option to play solo in Nightreign, but you have to fiddle with some in-game menus to figure out how to get there. It's a simple task, and once you know how to do it, you'll be reigning your nights alone. Solo play is an option, yes, but we do heavily recommend picking up some friends to play with or at least using matchmaking to match up with like-minded gamers all trying to slay the difficult bosses and eventually take down the Night Lord. In any case, good luck out there. Here's how to play a solo expedition in Elden Ring: Nightreign. How to play solo in Elden Ring: Nightreign Screenshot by Destructoid When you're ready to go it alone, head to the table in Roundtable Hold and get ready to set out for an expedition. But before you do, tab over to Matchmaking Settings screen like in the image above. Then, scroll down to Expedition Type and select Single Player. Now you're ready for your solo adventure. Tab back over to the Target tab, select which boss you want to fight, and select Commence Solo Expedition. Now, get ready for the fight of your Nightfarer's life. Solo play in Nightreign is tough, so be prepared to die a lot. Thankfully, after an update deployed shortly after launch, you are allotted one free resurrection when playing by yourself, and the amount of Runes dropped by killed enemies has also been buffed. It still won't be easy, though. The Nightlord bosses in Nightreign are built to deal with multiple players at the same time, so they will whoop you pretty well until you learn their mechanics and have a good build going into the final boss fight. Screenshot by Destructoid Not only that, but your friends or teammates won't be there to revive you after you go down. This means you will lose a level of progress and drop all of your Runes and have to pick them up again, so keep that in mind when faced with the frustrations of this co-op game in its solo variety. Good luck out there alone, Nightfarer. Maybe you're better off bringing friends, but if you're up to the task, the personal satisfaction of slaying these difficult boss fights will be yours for the taking. Phasmophobia has a massive summer update with lots of fresh features to delve into. The Chronicle update is fundamentally changing how the game works, so reviewing the patch notes to learn about it is a great way to ensure you know everything it entails. The ghost hunting game doesn't see new updates super often, but when they do arrive, they're always packed with lots of exciting additions to delve into. If you're eager to start exploring this one as soon as possible, here are the early patch notes for all features coming in Phasmophobia's Chronicle update. Table of contentsPhasmophobia Chronicle update patch notesSound RecorderJournal overhaulReworked evidence collection systemUpdated leveling and progressionNew main menuMystery featuresWhen is the Chronicle update for Phasmophobia?Phasmophobia Chronicle update patch notes Screenshot by Destructoid The Chronicle update for Phasmophobia includes one new piece of equipment and quite a few gameplay system reworks. We'll likely learn more about this update as it gets closer, but for now, here are the early patch notes for everything included in the Chronicle update. Sound Recorder The biggest addition in the Chronicle update is the arrival of the Sound Recorder, a fresh new piece of equipment. Like all equipment, this item comes in three Tiers, with each one progressively becoming easier to use and better for capturing evidence. Using this item, you can capture and record audio evidence for the journal. This includes Spirit Box responses, ghost event sounds, noises emitted through the Parabolic Microphone, and just about any other types of audio you may hear during an investigation. Image via Kinetic Games Journal overhaul To complement the evidence gathered using the Sound Recorder, the journal is being reworked. Instead of a photos tab, it features a more general media section that can be used to collect audio, video, and photographic evidence. Reworked evidence collection system The evidence collection system is finally getting a much-needed overhaul to properly reward all ghost hunters for their hard-earned documentation of the supernatural. The first evidence captured of any type of media will be labeled as unique. Unique evidence grants bonus cash and XP at the end of each match. Evidence deemed to be duplicates, which means you already captured it, grants smaller but still decent prizes. Every snap, sound, and sight is designed to be as rewarding as possible. Evidence tagging is being improved in this update, too, which hopefully means our ghost photos should finally be recognized as what they actually are instead of some random item in front of the ghost, like Salt. Image via Kinetic Games Updated leveling and progression The leveling and progression systems are being reworked in Chronicle. No details as to what this entails have been shared so far, so we'll likely learn more about it as it gets closer. New main menu A refreshed main menu UI is another key feature in this update. There's nothing known about this one yet either, so it's likely another feature the devs are waiting to unveil. Mystery features In the blog announcing the Chronicle update from May 29, the devs teased that there are plenty of other mystery features included in the update. Alongside this teaser, they posted an image of the truck, and it seems like the computer is being reworked, and that it also might allow us to watch multiple feeds at once. There's likely even more in store that we won't know until the update is closer. Image via Kinetic Games When is the Chronicle update for Phasmophobia? The Chronicle update for Phasmophobia launches on June 24. All of the features listed here and more that haven't been revealed yet will be available to start exploring as soon as the update is live. Although the official blog for the Chronicle update also mentions a rework for the Grafton Farmhouse map, it's not launching as part of this update. Instead, it's planned for later in the year. As far as we know, there are no new maps or map updates included in the Chronicle update, although most maps are set to eventually receive a rework according to the official Phasmophobia Trello. We've also got Horror 2.0, the biggest Phasmophobia update yet, to look forward to. Elden Ring Nightreign shares quite a bit with its predecessor Elden Ring, from its gameplay to its lore and history. It also seems to carry some of its technical nuances, according to a new breakdown from the tech experts at Digital Foundry. Digital Foundry published an analysis of the tech details behind FromSoftware's latest, and while Nightreign remixes a lot of what Elden Ring was into something new, it sounds like the state of Nightreign's technology is fairly reminiscent of Elden Ring's. "This is really nothing new to those familiar with FromSoftware's Elden Ring engine, and how it operates on consoles," wrote Digital Foundry's Thomas Morgan. Digital Foundry characterized the optimization for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles as "disappointing," as Nightreign continues to "often fall short of a target 60 frames per second while exploring." Additionally, the tech analyst noted there's no listed support for PlayStation 5 Pro, which bore out in tests, meaning the PS5 Pro is just running the base PS5 code with no additional modes or optimizations. I recommend visiting Digital Foundry for the full numbers breakdown, as there's quite a bit to go through, but all of it is best summed-up by Morgan here: "Ultimately, using the quality mode makes no practical sense on any console." The base PS5 typically hovers in a lower 30-45 frames per second range in this mode, compared to a 40-60 range on the framerate mode, and the Xbox consoles mirroring similar gaps. While the PS5 Pro seems to benefit from having a little extra horsepower to run Nightreign, there are still "lurches" while exploring the world that stuck out to Digital Foundry. The article concludes by saying there's "so much left to be desired on the technical front" when it comes to Elden Ring Nightreign, as 60 frames per second performance on consoles is "all too often out of reach." In other Elden Ring Nightreign news, FromSoftware has confirmed further updates in the pipeline for the co-op exprience, including tougher versions of existing Nightlords and a Duos mode somewhere down the line. This news arrives alongside confirmation that Elden Ring Nightreign has cleared the 3.5 million sales mark. Resolution Games has revealed a debut gameplay trailer for Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked, and confirmed a late 2025 release window and launch platforms. Resolution Games, best known for digital fantasy tabletop adventure Demeo, is working with Wizards of the Coast on the first virtual reality game set in the Dungeons & Dragons universe, called Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked. It’s due out on PC via Steam, and PlayStation 5, with a VR version available on PlayStation VR2, Steam VR, and Meta Quest 3. Battlemarked adapts D&D classes, actions, and lore to Resolution Games’ Demeo action role-playing system, which is DM-less and focuses on social strategy rather than social roleplay. This, Resolution Games said, encourages group tabletalk focused on tactics and decision-making. “While the world of Demeo is rich with lore, our previous titles focus primarily on tactical action over motivation and narrative,” said Tommy Palm, founder and CEO of Resolution Games. Resolution Games is working with story designer Matt Sernett as the project’s narrative lead. Sernett previously worked as a designer of the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop game and contributed to Dungeons & Dragons video games including Baldur’s Gate, Baldur’s Gate 2, and Icewind Dale. “When Dungeons & Dragons launched fifth edition back in 2014, the first adventure that many players went on ventured into Neverwinter Wood, and I can think of no place better for Battlemarked players to begin their journey,” said Sernett. “The first adventure in Demeo x Dungeons & Dragons: Battlemarked will take players to familiar locations including Cragmaw Castle and Mount Hotenow. The world of D&D is just as much a part of the story as its characters, and we can’t wait for players to immerse themselves in its dangers and delights.” Battlemarked’s second adventure, which will be included at launch, will be revealed later this year. It might be ridiculously expensive, but let's face it, we'd all love an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 if we could have one for free, and you might be able to do just that if you enter this new GPU competition. Not only will you get an RTX 5090 card to keep for yourself if you win this Nvidia Summer of RTX giveaway, but you'll also get one for your buddy. You only need to look at our Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 review to see why this top-end GPU is the best graphics card for gaming right now. With 32GB of VRAM and a monstrously powerful GPU, this Nvidia card puts the performance of every other current-gen GPU to shame - there's just one problem, and that's the cost. The MSRP is already expensive at $1,999, but real-world prices are considerably higher, particularly in the US, thanks to scarce supply. Read the rest of the story... I was originally concerned about The Witcher 4’s release, especially with the possibility of it having a turbulent launch like Cyberpunk 2077 after developer CD Projekt RED’s huge marketing campaign, but after seeing the upcoming game’s new gameplay footage, I’m somewhat more at ease with it. The title doesn’t yet have an official release date or a more specific release window, but it’s already one of the most anticipated games of the decade. Some of the rumors suggest that The Witcher 4’s release date is set for beyond 2026, possibly at some point in 2027. View the full article
How do you follow up a game like Umurangi Generation? According to a reliable source in the Genshin Impact community, Version 5.8 will introduce a new female 5-Star character who will buff or even transform the Electro-Charged reaction. While Genshin Impact has toyed with giving powerful buffs to underrepresented reactions, it has been a while since a character transformed a reaction the way Nilou did for Bloom. Chevreuse, Emilie, Citlali, and Escoffier have significantly buffed their respective Elemental Reactions, but have otherwise kept the gameplay intact. View the full article
Players eagerly waiting for Borderlands 4’s release later this year don’t need to wait without anything to play, as an underrated Borderlands spin-off game is free, but for a limited time. The game is still a few months away, so players will still have to wait a few months before controlling Borderlands 4’s new Vault Hunters. View the full article
As a lifelong Star Wars lover and wargamer, I hyperventilated a little bit when Days of Wonder announced it was turning Memoir '44 - one of the most popular war board games ever to hit a table - into Star Wars: Battle of Hoth, a proper tactical wargame about The Empire Strikes Back's iconic opening barney. A new Intel document leak has surfaced, which appears to confirm that a new Intel gaming CPU is in the works with 12 P-Cores and no E-Cores. As it's the P-Cores (where the P stands for "performance") that are the most important ones for gaming when it comes to Intel CPUs, that would potentially make this new Intel CPU an even stronger gaming chip than the mighty Core i9 14900K. The latter CPU only has eight P-Cores, with 16 lower-power E-Cores (where E stands for "efficiency") pushing up the total to 24. However, it's the eight P-Cores that make the Core i9 14900K the company's best gaming CPU, especially with their sky-high turbo clock speed of up to 6GHz. As such, while this new Intel CPU appears to only have 12 cores, it looks like it could be a much better option for gaming than Intel's chips with many cores, assuming the clock speed is high enough. In the history of horror games - beginning with Haunted House and Monster Maze, going right up to Dying Light The Beast and Silent Hill F - Resident Evil 4 marks an inflection point. I'll personally maintain that RE was an action game right from the beginning, as far back as 1996. But Resident Evil 4 undoubtedly tipped the scale. Survival horror was joined by a new subgenre: action horror. Superficially, they might seem mutually exclusive. If survival horror games like Silent Hill and classic RE are built around a fixed camera, a limited inventory, and a short supply of bullets, action horror, a la Dead Space and Dying Light, is the quick-paced, spectacular spiritual opposite. And yet Holstin, one of the most wishlisted upcoming horror games on Steam right now, manages to marry the two disciplines. Read the rest of the story...
