  2. I don't have children, but if I did, I'm pretty sure I'd love Gears of War more than them. That was always because of the campaigns and horde mode, but I'm still up for a few rounds of deathmatch—and if you're as eager as I am to revisit the gory glory of the Xbox 360 era, you won't have to wait long... 4. During the opening seconds of this Pizza Bandit trailer, which debuted at the PC Gaming Show 2025 today, I thought I was looking at a gritty, neo noir take on the shop sim genre: there's a big guy making pizzas in a pizza restaurant, after all. Great, I thought: time to make pizzas. Time to decorate my pizza restaurant. Time to innovate new pizza toppings... Read more.View the full article
  5. Hard sci-fi survival shooter The Last Caretaker just got an airing at the PC Gaming Show 2025, and it's channelling some truly uncanny early British TV moods. If you don't know what I mean, imagine the ye olde Americana of Fallout, except from across the pond, with all the chewed VHS stylings and early radiophonic synth work that entails. Watch the video: you'll get it... Read more.View the full article

  11. Ubisoft are nowhere to be found during this year's not-E3 season, meaning there's no opportunity for the French publisher to announce six new games they'll never release. I still crave a Splinter Cell fix, however, and Mudang: Two Hearts delivered, kinda. It's Korean, it's got fast-moving rage zombies, but it's also got men shimmying up pipes, cinematic brawls, and a rapid-cut montage of knife crimes. You should watch the trailer. 16. Microsoft is reportedly set to release a Halo: Combat Evolved remaster in 2026. During the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, Microsoft gaming boss Phil Spencer teased a number of new games coming out next year, including the new Fable, the next Forza, Gears of War: E-Day, and "the return of a classic that’s been with us since the beginning." While that’s an obvious tease for Halo, The Verge reporter Mark Warren has said it specifically relates to a Halo: Combat Evolved remaster. here's Xbox chief Phil Spencer announcing Gears of War: E-Day for 2026, and in the same year "the next Forza" and a tease of a Halo CE remaster [Hidden Content] — Tom Warren (@tomwarren) June 8, 2025 Warren had reported on the existence of this game before, which is apparently under consideration for release on rival platforms including PlayStation 5. Of course, Microsoft remastered Halo CE with 2011’s Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, which was made a part of Halo: The Master Chief Collection. This is not a brand new Halo game, then, which we know Halo Studios, which used to be called 343 Industries, is using Unreal Engine 5 to build. 17. The first week and a bit of June is full of game showcases and announcements to get fans hyped. Summer Games Fest had some fantastic highlights, with Resident Evil 9: Requiem and Lies of P: Overture shadow-dropping being two of several focal points. The June 8 Xbox Showcase, though, is on an entirely different level. Despite Summer Games Fest having some of the most hyped-up announcements anyone could've expected, it was a slow burn to get to those points. There were plenty of trailers, but with the event spanning several hours, it took a while to get to them. Compare this to the Xbox Showcase's back-to-back trailers for massive titles like Persona 4 Revival, a new Call of Duty, and Grounded 2. It generated more hype in its first hour than SGF did in its entire runtime. Image via Xbox Don't get me wrong—I have highlights from both showcases. Seeing Sonic Racing CrossWorlds feature both Hatsune Miku and Minecraft within it during SGF was a hilarious, unexpected twist that had me chuckling for a while. My favorite part of the Xbox Games Showcase, on the other hand, was the announcement of Grounded 2, especially after remembering how much I enjoyed playing the first game with friends. One of those friends was also very excited about Planet of Lana 2, reminding me that I need to play it at some point. Showcases and festivals make video gaming much more fun. While sure, I found the Xbox Showcase more interesting overall, I still had an absolute blast with SGF. My interest in these almost came close to my overwhelming joy for the Wholesome Direct this past Saturday, but that's an entirely separate conversation. Did you watch both the Summer Games Fest and Xbox Games Showcase? Which one was your favorite? Let us know in the comments below! The post Xbox’s Showcase was far better than Summer Games Fest in every single way, don’t you agree? appeared first on Destructoid. View the full article
  18. Following its first announcement trailer just a few months ago, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds managed to top the excitement by showcasing an ever-growing roster of fan-favorite characters to race with. It's little surprise that racing games have been a massive part of the Sonic franchise for decades, given the hedgehog's need for speed, with CrossWorlds taking the concept to even greater heights. Racing with iconic characters from the series across land, air, sea, space, and even time, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has plenty of unique mechanics to set it apart from previous entries in the franchise. 19. 'Weird' is one of those words I try to avoid because it usually just means "I'm not going to even attempt to understand or unpack the specific thing this is going for", but supernatural hotel renovator There Are No Ghosts At The Grand really stood out to me this evening for a tone that felt pretty singular in a weekend weighed down by soulslikes and shooters. Broadly, it looks like your Powerwash Sims and House Flippers, but with the added wrinkle that neither of the games feature dapper old gents crooning ska ditties at you. Here's a trailer. 20. Here's something I didn't know about Trash Goblin, a cozy shopkeeping sim featured in today's PC Gaming Show 2025: one of the characters who regularly comes into your shop is a hopeless romantic who also happens to be a mushroom. 21. In a special episode of the VGC podcast, we review Xbox’s Summer Showcase, two days before it happened. What did we get right? And what did we miss? The point of the exercise is, other than seeing how much we could get right before the show (State of Decay was one notable absentee), a broader discussion between VGC’s Jordan Middler, Andy Robinson, and Eurogamer’s Alex Donaldson, about leak culture, and how the press deal with information ahead of official announcements. As is typical of most major showcases, we decided to keep most of what we knew – which was obtained via various sources, and not supplied by publishers under any sort of confidential agreement – under wraps.
