Helldivers 2 developers Arrowhead have unleashed the latest twist in the game's Galactic War, with urban battles against the Terminids now on the cards. Rather than defending cities on Super Earth, this time the task is swatting bug invasions of population centres across multiple planets. A tough assignment, but to be fair, successfully protecting their home planet against the still-at-large Illuminate should have given players plenty experience of street fighting (not the Ryu and Chun-Li kind). The first-ever spinoff for Splatoon is debuting exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2. This spinoff is called Splatoon Raiders and was revealed through a surprise short trailer that dropped on June 10. Splatoon has had quite a few games released over the years, but this series has never seen a spinoff until now. Since all Splatoon games are made by Nintendo, it's not too surprising that this one is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive game. [Hidden Content] In this game, you'll take on the role of a mechanic sent off on an adventure to the Spirhalite Islands. You're joined by the iconic Deep Cut trio from Splatoon 3, including Shiver, Frye, and Big Man, so there are some familiar faces to help you along your journey. The trailer follows a helicopter with you and the Deep Cut trio flying toward the mysterious Spirhalite Islands. A strange glow appears in the sky, and chaos erupts, sending your helicopter swirling through the sky. After this shot, several gameplay scenes are showcased. There's a large wooden raft, various shots of the character you play as, fishing, and of course, plenty of shooting. The trailer for Splatoon Raiders only takes up about 1:10 of the 5:30 trailer, and the rest of it is dedicated to a new free update for Splatoon 3 arriving on June 12. Image via Nintendo The Splatoon 3 update highlighted in this trailer features a fresh collection of weapons, the Splatlands collection. There are 30 new weapon kits included in this collection. The Urchin Underpass stage from the original Splatoon is also returning in Splatoon 3. No release date was shared for Splatoon Raiders, and no additional information has been revealed outside of this small glimpse into what the game will entail. Nintendo did confirm that more details will be shared in the future, so we're sure to learn more about this upcoming release soon. While you wait for Splatoon Raiders to arrive, there's plenty to keep you busy on the Nintendo Switch 2, like unlocking mirror mode or rewinding time in Mario Kart World. The post Booyah! While it's supposed to be tough, the new Lies of P Overture DLC might take the challenge too far. A new director's letter from developer Neowiz acknowledges how some parts of the expansion didn't quite turn out as intended, and the team promises that it's looking into potential difficulty nerfs soon. Judging by the community response to this, the main issue is with New Game Plus, which appears to be making the game punishingly unfair. Read the rest of the story... It feels like there's a checklist that every videogame has to adhere to these days. Does it have a solid, emotion-driven narrative? Is the world seemingly endless? Is it 50 hours long? Videogames just keep getting *******, but I consistently find that they lose their sparkle as a result. Dying Light 2 was, in some ways, one of those games - the zombies didn't feel like the focus until the introduction of Tower Raid. Dying Light: The Beast, however, promises to go back to the series' survival horror roots, with franchise director Tymon Smektała telling PCGamesN that it's trading out human politics and factional conflict for good ol' fashioned zombie slaying. MindsEye, the new blockbuster action-adventure from Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies, debuts today on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. But the game's important day one patch won't arrive on day one for Xbox. Writing on reddit last night, MindsEye developer Build A Rocket Boy said that due to "varied platform certification," Microsoft's console wouldn't feature the 16 GB patch at launch, despite the fact the studio says this update is "highly recommend[ed]... to ensure MindsEye plays as we intended." "It includes key final refinements," Build A Rocket Boy said, including "gameplay improvements, visual polish, stability fixes and performance tuning." When will it pop up for Xbox players? For now, the studio can't say for sure. "[It] will be made available on Xbox as soon as possible," the studio added. This is the same update that, last week, Build A Rocket Boy said fans should wait for rather than playing the game before its street date, after early copies began making their way in the hands of players. Early reaction to the unpatched version of the game included negative comments branding the game a "technical mess." "We want everyone to experience the story the same way at the same time on day one, without bias," Build A Rocket Boy said in a statement issued in response to early copies being played. "This means waiting until the official release date to play through the game firsthand." Now, Xbox fans will have to wait a little longer. Mention of bias in the studio's statement sparked suggestion by some fans that the company was referring back to comments made by its co-CEO Mark Gerhard, who suggested there had been a "concerted effort" to "trash the game and the studio" with negative social media posts from paid accounts or bots. IGN subsequently put this claim to Hakan Abrak, boss of Hitman developer IO Interactive, the company which is publishing MindsEye. His response: "I don't know. I don't believe that. I don't believe that. I just think the game should speak for itself on June the 10th." MindsEye has had an unusual road to release, having been initially announced as an episodic campaign component for the company's now-abandoned creative platform Everywhere. Ultimately, MindsEye is being released with its story mode as the star, and while the full game will offer customisation of its world using Everywhere's toolset, the metaverse-y portion of the game has been sidelined. In MindsEye, you play as Jacob Diaz, an ex-military drone pilot who was implanted with a chip to interface directly with the flying hardware. The experience has shaterd Diaz's mind — and it's up to you to investigate Diaz's past and piece together the truth of what happened. Tom Phillips is IGN's News Editor. Anvil Empires is a terrific idea. Imagine a game of Age of Empires 2, but every villager and soldier is an actual, living player. Cooperating with hundreds of other people, you need to build a village, create a production line for weapons and armor, and defend your castle from the opposing army, every member of which is also a real person. Like Foxhole before it, Anvil Empires promises not just large-scale, multiplayer combat, but a simulation of every facet of warfare, where the factory workers and manufacturers behind the front line are just as important as the troops. And so far, the sheer numbers are looking good. More detailed feedback, however, is less than resoundingly enthusiastic. Read the rest of the story... A single-player combat-focused experience from The First Descendant developer Nexon, it's already the top demo on Valve's platform during Steam Next Fest. While the player numbers are high, the overall reception to the demo has been mixed so far, largely due to the pace of combat and the game's overall stability. One of the most defining elements of Dying Light 2 was its lack of guns. In a post-apocalyptic world where manufacturing had all but ground to a halt, it just made sense that humanity had to make do with what they could actually get, and what's easier to make a spikey stick or an AK-47? But it seems like Techland is going back on this bold decision... Read more.View the full article
