  1. In an ideal world, I'd never have to clean. My dishes would magically wash themselves, the hoover would clear up my kids' cereal before it's stamped into the carpet all by itself (I refuse to get a roomba), and dust would simply be afraid to accumulate on my belongings lest it provoke my wrath. So one thing I enjoy in videogames is actively not cleaning. It's a place where dirt never accumulates and my list of chores is far shorter. Other players feel differently, however, and want Cities Skylines 2 in particular to be dirtier. So they modded the grit and grime of modern life into the hit strategy game. 3. Remedy Entertainment has issued a profit warning to investors, attributing it to “weak sales” of its co-op shooter, FBC: Firebreak. Firebreak, a PvE first-person shooter set in the Control universe and Remedy’s first full multiplayer game, was released in June. At the time, Remedy reported that launch sales had underperformed, but committed to improving the game based on player feedback. Two weeks ago, the studio released the game’s first major update. However, in a note to investors published this weekend, Remedy said sales had still not reached its internal targets. Read More... View the full article

  7. October’s IGN First continues with even more gameplay from Crimson Desert. This time we’re taking a look at a main story quest, one which brings us face to face with one of the campaign’s most imposing foes: Golden Star, a colossal mechanical dragon. So far, we’ve shown off a lot of combat. Crimson Desert is an open-world action game, of course, so naturally combat is key to the entire experience. You’ll see plenty more sword-slinging in the video above. But we also wanted to showcase a little more of the story and help contextualize where some of those… stranger elements come from. But first, the basics. You play as Kliff, leader of the Greymanes free sword company. Not that he’s doing much leading right now. Crimson Desert’s prologue sees the Greymanes attacked by their sworn rivals, the ****** Bears, and the assault leaves the company wounded and scattered (a bloody opening you can see in action here). Alone, Kliff sets out on a mission to seek out his lost allies, rebuild the Greymanes, and exact vengeance on the enemies who tore the company apart. That mission takes Kliff on a journey across Pywel, a massive continent made up of numerous regions, including the titular Crimson Desert. As he explores, he learns of a number of powerful artefacts that grant immense power – a power that some are using to wreak destructive havoc rather than enact good deeds. Kliff takes it upon himself to get involved and finds himself falling down a rabbit hole that leads to a grander destiny. In the quest we’re showcasing today, "Master of the Forgotten Lands", Kliff has found himself wound up in the affairs of Marni, a scientific genius. Fans of ****** Desert Online, developer Pearl Abyss’ previous game, may recognise the name Marni, and while Kliff’s new acquaintance is not the same character, they are somewhat mirror images of each other – both incredibly intelligent scientists who make the impossible possible via unorthodox methods. In Marni’s secret cliff base, you can see one of the origin points of Crimson Desert’s steampunk aesthetic. His array of strange devices suggest he’s much more advanced than Pywel’s wider Medieval-like society. This quest takes Kliff on a journey along the Great Ocean of Pywel’s coast, up Mount Benus, and into Marni’s Masterium, where an army of unexpected foes await. And then, at the castle’s summit, Kliff must hold his own against the colossal Golden Star. Will he succeed? You’ll have to watch our brand new gameplay video to find out. Stick with IGN throughout this month for even more from Crimson Desert. Later this week we’ll be revealing how Pearl Abyss created Golden Star, taking you behind the scenes to see how sound, vision, and gameplay mechanics combine to create a striking boss battle. 8. I have been following Pokémon Legends: Z-A leaks for a while, and I was impressed this weekend by how much more complex and real they’ve become. Just a few weeks ago, all we had were alleged Mega Evolution descriptions, and now we have a full list of sprites of all Pokémon in the game (if you believe the leakers) that includes said Megas and their shiny forms. Other people shared how the title screen of the game changes after you finish it, allegedly. This is all happening four days before Legends Z-A even releases for us. The Nintendo Switch’s vulnerability to piracy is one reason why leaks this deep are possible. Users with early access to a physical copy of Legends: Z-A and the knowledge to hack it can pull any information they want from the cartridge. The brave (or stupid) ones turned the game into a ROM to leak it online, ignoring Nintendo’s aggressive history of intellectual property protection with lawsuits. Battle royale in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Screenshot via The Pokémon Company While the legality or morality of extracting and releasing a game this early is questionable, it’s undeniable that the chaos it creates is fun to watch. On Friday, data miners and leakers were fighting on Twitter, claiming each had the real leaks and pointing fingers at others for just chasing clout. Some of their followers didn’t pick a side and instead got mad at the leakers because they were gatekeeping the game files. Three days later, more and more people say they have early access to the real game. This whole mess about "is the game really out," "is the information really correct," and "are the leaks even real," is what makes the leaks appealing. It’s the thrill of surprise. But Legends: Z-A should be the last Pokémon game to give us this thrill. It should be the final mainline game on the Switch. Whatever title comes next will already be in the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives timeline, since that's the fate of most Nintendo new games that will release after February 2026. Unless Nintendo really wants to keep supporting the Switch Pokémon player base for a while, whatever game comes next year, likely Generation 10, will not release on the Switch 1. And if it’s not on the first Switch, it will not be leaked or datamined early like Legends: Z-A. Now, the Switch 2 could get hacked by then, but even the Switch 2 hacking community on Reddit doesn’t believe that today. All the exploits hackers used on the Switch, both in software and hardware, have been fixed by Nintendo on the Switch 2. The company added extra controls to detect and ban people abusing exploits. With the Nintendo Switch 2 seemingly impossible to crack, and future games not releasing on the Switch, it means that if you like leaks, it's time to really cherish the Pokémon Legends Z-A chaos that is happening right now, because it likely won't come back too soon. If you don't like it, you can just take a deep breath and relax because the next Pokémon game will probably not leak, or at least not leak to the extent we're seeing today. You will be free from spoilers until the launch day. Or so we hope. The post Pokémon Legends: Z-A might be our last chance to see a Pokémon game leaked before launch appeared first on Destructoid. 14. Amazon's Prime Big Deal Days ***** had plenty of excellent video game discounts, and even though ****** Friday isn't until next month, the retailer isn't making us wait for more. It still has some discounted surprises for shoppers to check out between ***** events, and right now that includes a great offer for PS5 users on Gears of War: Reloaded (see here at Amazon). This game has dropped to $34.99 from its $39.99 list price, offering a sweet little $5 discount on it. More importantly, though, it's the first big price drop for this game, marking its lowest price yet. So why wait to pick it up? If you've been wanting to jump into the world of Gears on PlayStation, now is your chance to do it and save a little cash in the process. Gears of War: Reloaded (PS5) for $34.99 For those who don't know, Gears of War: Reloaded is a remaster of the first Gears of War game, now made for PlayStation 5. This release comes with all post-launch content for the original game, including a bonus campaign act and multiplayer maps alongside characters and cosmetics. The game itself features 4K resolution, up to 60 FPS in the campaign, up to 120 FPS in multiplayer, and more which you can see below courtesy of Xbox Wire's announcement of it from earlier this year: 4K resolution60 FPS in Campaign120 FPS in MultiplayerHigh Dynamic Range (HDR)Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos7.1 3D Spatial AudioVariable Refresh Rate (VRR)4K assets and remastered texturesEnhanced post-processing visual effectsImproved shadows and reflectionsSuper resolution with improved anti-aliasingZero loading screens during Campaign Gears of War: Reloaded even supports cross-play, so friends can join in on the fun no matter the platform they're playing on. Our Gears of War: Reloaded review update by IGN's Miranda Sanchez said of the PS5 version that, "The core of Reloaded is the same between all three platforms, but the DualSense adds a twist with the adaptive triggers and any comms done through radio output through the controller's speaker. It was a neat surprise having dialogue and sound effects – like hitting the perfect active reload – presented this way." If it's your first time jumping into the Gears games, you're in for a treat. 15. Old School Runescape has more than its fair share of magical melodies. From the snazzy jazzy H.A.M Fisted and the salsa-dipped Flute Salad, to the nostalgia-triggering Harmony and my all-time favorite, Forever, Jagex's music team certainly knows how to capture a vibe. In terms of pure popularity, these all pale in comparison to the nautical monolith that is Sea Shanty 2. As OSRS' new Sailing skill nears its maiden voyage, it's the perfect time for Jagex to produce a sequel to the most iconic song to come from one of the best MMOs. 16. There's a brilliant deal to be had on a brand new Nvidia graphics card right now, and it's all thanks to Amazon. This MSI-branded Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 has dropped in price to just $499, saving you $50 on its MSRP, at least while stock lasts. The RTX 5070 is one of the most recent Nvidia graphics cards to go on *****, and while stiff competition from AMD denied it a place on our best graphics card guide when it launched, it's a much better buy at this price. With Nvidia DLSS 4 and multi frame gen support included, you've got the potential to unlock some seriously high frame rates with this GPU, even at higher resolutions like 1440p. 17. The unexpected virality a song can achieve thanks to TikTok still blows my mind. It's a platform that didn't even exist when GTA 5 came out more than 12 years ago, but it's one that GTA 6 is going to be leaning into a lot, judging by its reveal trailer. That means some TikTok-famous tracks will probably air on some of its radio stations. While any artist featuring in GTA 6 should be keeping hush right now (they're no doubt NDA'd up to the eyeballs) another rapper has claimed that his song will be in the open world game's soundtrack, and it's one we've seen exploding on TikTok in recent months.
