The new World of Warcraft rewards are based around the seasonal boss of Hallow's End, the Headless Horseman, as players can earn new editions of his weapons, armor, and notorious mount for their collections. ARC Raiders is currently hosting an open beta, allowing anyone and everyone to hop in and try the game out less than two weeks ahead of release. I also fired the game up for the first time, and while the gameplay is beyond stellar, one feature really struck me. And that, folks, is the game's menus. Made to feel connected with the game's world and to act as portals into various aspects of its overarching narrative, ARC Raiders' menus are not just bland texts on a screen with the occasional animated background. They are interactive narrative pieces that take you from one place to the next, either immersing yourself in the underground civilization of Speranza or one of the story's many characters. The very main menu gives you an overview of your character's looks and lets you ****** up, but places you within a thrilling, bustling market with people walking around and enjoying what little life they have amid a total collapse of topside nations. Switching to another tab places you in a birds-eye perspective of what seems a town square, with characters occupying select parts of it, which you can, of course visit. ARC Raiders' menus might not be 2010-level, but they're beyond most games of our time. Screenshot by Destructoid The characters serve two functions: beyond being in a world and story whose details they help reveal, they serve as vendors who provide a range of services and even quests that, again, add to the narrative. You can also visit your character's private quarters, where you can level up, but also see the circumstances in which they live and get a better grasp of their background and their own personal story. Every part of the many menus in the game serves a purpose and is not purely utilitarian, with just text on a screen and maybe some cosmetic background stuff to make it less boring. Most games today don't even have that last bit, often just giving you some bland menus to navigate with music playing and the game's title screen hanging above. It's boring, uninspired, and has no real purpose in the game, which was by no means true even just a decade ago. Your character's room informs their history, which, of course, you can shape however you want. Screenshot by Destructoid A few months ago, I revisited some games from some 12-13 years ago, chiefly Remember Me, whose menus were so wild and imaginative, even if they made the menu navigation a tad bit more tedious. Most titles of the time did similar things, from major hits like Assassin's Creed to smaller indie efforts. It's something that always elevated the overall experience, adding layers to games as an art form and rejecting utilitarianism in favor of creativity. However, as things often tend to do, we've gravitated towards simplicity, with many aspects of game design dumbed down for whatever reason. In this sense, ARC Raiders stands out, having pursued a vision of art and soul rather than fulfilling basic functionalities, which is something I deeply appreciate. The game's hyperrealist, sort of 80s-inspired style is great by itself, and this is just an extra cherry on top. I hope games return to the old approach of making every bit of a game serve a purpose, with all the detail and artistry that comes with it. Otherwise, we'll end up like how our cities and architecture did: whole in function, devoid of form. Like our content? Autosave in Pokémon games isn't a new feature, but things can be pretty frustrating in Legends Z-A due to how the mechanic has been implemented. Table of contentsCan you turn off autosaves in Pokémon Legends Z-A?How to use manual save in Pokémon Legends Z-ACan you turn off autosaves in Pokémon Legends Z-A? As of writing, there's no known way to turn off the autosave feature. It comes enabled by default, much like previous games in the series. However, you don't get the chance to disable the feature in Legends Z-A. It will always remain active on its own, saving your in-game progression after regular intervals. I am unsure as to why Gamefreak made this change in Legends ZA. While auto save was present, having the ability to turn it off felt welcome at all times. In fact, it was the popular choice for me and many in the community. Screenshot via Destructoid How to use manual save in Pokémon Legends Z-A You can manually save your game to prevent loss of any in-game progression. Unlike auto saves, manual saves can be created at any given moment (except when you're in the middle of a battle). As long as you can pause the game, you should be able to create a manual save. To create a manual save, press the X button on your Switch/Switch 2. Then press the R button to save your progress manually. You can then quit the game or close the menu to continue your journey. The FC 26 Ratings Reloaded Duo Pick 3 SBC features two fantastic cards for Ultimate Team players to obtain, but they can select only one of them. The latest Ratings Reloaded Duo Pick SBC features Real Madrid star Dean Huijsen and Arsenal talent Riccardo Calafiori. While Calafiori can play as a CB, he is kitted as an LB. Huijsen has the better playstyles and defensive stats to shine as a CB. If I have to compare purely based on stats, Calafiori looks better in certain areas. More positions.Has Fullback+ at LB, which is the meta choice. Huijsen sadly lacks Defender+, which is what most players use.The presence of Long Ball, Aerial Fortress and Bruiser works well in the LB position, and also allows you to work with him as a CB if the need arises. Ultimately, neither item is absolutely 'broken' in terms of their stats, roles, and playstyles, but Calafiori appears to offer better returns in terms of the fodder you'll invest. Like our content? I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, a 1995 video game based on a short story of the same name, has received an update out of the blue, making the game more intuitive and fun to play on various modern systems, because some developers still value old titles. Nightdive Studios, known for its acquisitions and subsequent patches of old and abandoned games, has updated I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream, a point-and-click game based on Harlan Ellison's short story of the same name. Ellison himself worked on the game, first released in 1995, and provided his voice for the AI antagonist AM. The story is considered a seminal work of science fiction, with Ellison himself praised as one of the biggest figures in the genre, alongside the greatest of the great like Isaac Asimov, Arthur C. Clarke, Dan Simmons, Frank Herbert, and Philip K. ***** (among others). The game itself, played like a point-and-click adventure, has garnered a cult following over the past three decades, with many praising its themes and atmosphere, which is no surprise given the author's involvement. An absolute classic. Image by Cyberdreams Now, Nightdive has stepped in to make the game more readily available to modern audiences, patching up its technical backend and adding "modern menu options," "improved controller support," a set of achievements "to encourage exploration and extend replayability," extra content, and cloud saving. Not a comprehensive set of changes, but one that'll fundamentally alter how we can play it on our "advanced" machines that just so happen to crap the bed when trying to run old software. This "definitive update," as the studio calls it, came basically out of nowhere, and fans have responded overwhelmingly positively to the news. There's something about seeing developers actually care about the vast library of games that have brought the industry to this point, where it accounts for a large chunk of all entertainment, especially in terms of how much money it generates. I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream is, ironically, a warning for our kind who pursue limitless progress and seek to optimize warfare in particular through the use of rapidly developed technologies like AI, that might one day spell the end of us. It's a horrifying story, and a hyperbolic one, true, but still one to take into account when looking at how we're approaching human-like artificial intelligence. Like our content? Nespin are the first obtainable race in Absolvement that aren't available in character creation right away but are instead unlocked via a quest. It's a pretty straightforward quest available right away from the main HUB. Here's how to unlock the Nespin Race in Absolvement. Table of contentsAbsolvement Nespin Race Unlock GuideAbsolvement Nespin Race ShowcaseAbsolvement Nespin Race Unlock Guide Video by Destructoid You can unlock the Nespin race in Absolvement by going to the Bat statue in the main HUB area. Follow the video above and go into the cave with the Soul Tree and stick to the right until you reach the bat statue. Then interact and talk to the statue and accept the quest using the first dialogue option. The quest to unlock the Nespin race requires you to get 20 Blood Masses which drop from Blood Mage enemies in the Blood Citadel/Sanguine Citadel aka the Blood Dungeon. Now all you have to do is start up a Dungeon run alone or with friends, get the Blood Dungeon variation and kill the Blood Mages (They have red coat and Blood-themed skills) who drop Blood Masses. Image by Destructoid Repeat this for enough times until you farm 20 Blood Masses and then go back to the Bat statue in the hub area. Turn in the quest with the first dialogue option and you'll unlock the bat-like Nespin race. They now become available as a Race option during character creation in your other slots. Note that it doesn't replace your current race in your current slot. Basically, it means that if you want to play Nespin, you'll have to make a new slot for it.
