Warhorse Studios, the developer behind the popular role-playing game Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is getting ready to reveal its next game. The Czech studio took to X/Twitter on Thursday to announce that it would be revealing a new game on April 18 at 11am PT / 2pm ET. Fans immediately began buzzing about the possibility of a sequel to Kingdom Come, which earned a loyal following thanks to the way that it grounded its Skyrim-like design in a more realistic medieval open world. First released in 2018, Kingdom Come Deliverance has consistently topped lists of the best RPGs. We wrote in our review at the time, "There’s a shining suit of mail underneath Kingdom Come: Deliverance’s authentically medieval grime. Strong characters and storytelling, one of my favorite first-person melee combat systems ever, and special attention given to building moment-to-moment immersion come together as a mighty alloy that ranks among the most unique, memorable RPGs I’ve played in years." Kingdom Come: Deliverance is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and also received a Switch release last March. Shortly after the release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Warhorse Studios was acquired by Plaion, the company formerly known as Koch Media that includes Deep Silver. The Wheel of Time wasn’t for everyone, and I have almost nothing good to say about The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Fallout, the first season of which premiered this week, seems to break that bad streak. All the episodes are online now, but I’ve watched three episodes so far. I love it. I’ve spent hundreds of hours playing the games that inspired it, so I can only speak to that experience; I don’t know how well it will work for people who never played the games. Both Suyu and Sudachi began as forks of Yuzu, the emulator that Nintendo sued out of existence on March 4th. “Discord responds to and complies with all legal and valid Digital Millennium Copyright Act requests. The 2024 BAFTA Games Awards have come and gone but didn’t leave without another round of wins for Larian Studios’ Baldur’s Gate 3. The Dungeons and Dragons RPG rolled away from the show with five wins (including Best Game) while other highlights saw solid wins for projects like Alan Wake 2, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, and Viewfinder. Larian’s night at the BAFTAs saw studio head Swen Vincke and the rest of the team taking home awards for Best Game, Music, Performer in a Supporting Role, and Narrative. It also won the public vote for EE Players’ Choice award, giving the studio that grand total of fine wins. The total of 18 categories saw awards spread out among the nominees. Alan Wake 2 developer Remedy Entertainment nabbed awards for Artistic Achievement and Audio Achievement, while Nintendo managed to grab the Family and Multiplayer Awards for Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Viewfinder was another surprise standout, taking home awards for New Intellectual Property and British Game. Other highlights saw Venba win for Debut Game, Tchia win for Game Beyond Entertainment, and Dave the Diver win for Game Design. The BAFTA Games Awards also took the time to honor this year’s Special Award recipient: the ***-based gaming charity, SpecialEffect. Since getting off the ground in 2007, the organization has utilized technology to allow and enhance access to video games for disabled players. As SpecialEffect explains on its website, “Whatever we do, we’re committed to making life better for the people that need us, for as long as possible.” SpecialEffect CEO and founder Dr. Mick Donegan MBE accepted the award on the organization’s behalf. He shared a few thoughts about the recognition in a pre-ceremony interview. “We are utterly delighted,” he said. “We’re delighted because, well, it’s great that the charity is recognized, but what we’ve achieved has been in partnership with the people who’ve helped us, who have funded us, the people we’ve worked with who’ve helped, and the industry that has collaborated with us to make their games more accessible. It’s just a lovely endorsement for accessibility all together and the effort that everybody’s made.” BAFTA Special Award winners span across games, film, and television. The Fallout TV show has been out for several hours now, and fans are already taking to social media platforms like Reddit and X/Twitter to discuss the show, particularly the sixth episode and the season finale. Chatter about the show's eighth episode has already caused one Fallout game to trend online because of what fans consider a potential retcon. Fans are reaching that conclusion in part because it causes contention with the Fallout timeline. Fallout: New Vegas is set in the year 2281 — 204 years after the ****** dropped. Meanwhile, the first season of the TV show is set in 2296 — 15 years after the events of Fallout: New Vegas. The biggest conflict between the two can be found in the sixth episode of the TV series, which mentions that Shady Sands, the capital of the New California Republic (NCR), was destroyed in the year 2277 — four years before the events of Fallout: New Vegas and the same year that the NCR fought in the First Battle of Hoover Dam. In the show, the NCR has been scattered by the destruction of Shady Sands and exist as a ragtag group trying to rebuild society. The show also doesn't make it clear whether this is the full remnants of the NCR or just a small contingent of it. These discrepancies have fans claiming that Fallout: New Vegas has been retconned by Bethesda, which did not work on the original release in 2010. Bethesda design director Emil Pagliarulo took to X/Twitter to try and correct the record by noting the official timeline, but that did little to satisfy confused fans who pointed out the discrepancy between the two. "Okay cool. It’s just that according to the show, an, ahem…major event occurs in 2277 that would definitely have had an impact in Fallout: New Vegas," one user wrote. "The only way I can rectify this would be to move the date of the event until *after* New Vegas, and call it a typo." Fallout: New Vegas was created by many of the developers who worked on Fallout 2, grounding it more heavily in the lore developed by the franchise's original creator, ****** Isle Studios. Bethesda has long sought to put its own stamp on the series going back to Fallout 3, fueling unconfirmed rumors of friction between the two, though they both now share a parent company in Microsoft. One way or another, the timelines seem to be at odds with one another, and Bethesda executive Todd Howard reportedly considers the show canon. This moment has some arguing that the glimpse of New Vegas is actually a tease for the second season. Though Prime Video has yet to announce a second season, it feels all but confirmed given the overwhelmingly postivie feedback from fans and critics combined with the fact the show was awarded a $25 million tax credit from the state of California if the series opts to relocate filming from New York State to the Golden State. It seems like we'll know soon enough how Fallout plans to handle New Vegas going forward. Warzone is no stranger to over-the-top events. If you recall, The Boys collaboration had players running around in matches looking for “power-ups” that gave them different abilities. In 2022, it seemed like every other game maker was flirting with "NFT integration" or "blockchain support" or some other crypto-adjacent buzzword in one form or another. Then, throughout 2023, the whole idea quickly faded away as generative AI became the latest Silicon Valley obsession. But some are apparently not willing to give up on the crypto gaming dream. Playtron and Mysten Labs have announced the SuiPlay0X1, a new Steam Deck-alike that is being billed as "the world's first blockchain native handheld games console."
