  1. The Fallout TV show is a bit good. Indeed, here at PC Gamer we think it is the best Fallout has been since the highs of New Vegas. So, you know, go watch it! But while it's true that the TV show is good, it's fair to say it's only showing a very narrow slice of what the Fallout universe has to offer. Which got me thinking… if the Fallout games were movies, what would they be like and, most importantly, which would be best?.. Read more.View the full article
  2. Dataminers are doing their thing with World of Warcraft expansion The War Within now that developer Blizzard has made an alpha build available for early testing, and already there are some interesting discoveries. Warning! Potential spoilers for World of Warcraft The War Within follow. As Wowhead reports, The War Within appears to contain a new playable race called the Harronir. The Harronir, so far unannounced, have so many customisation options that Wowhead speculates they will become playable at some point in the future, if not at the launch of The War Within, based on past experience with existing playable races the Nighborne and Vulpera. In looking through the War Within customization data, we expected to see the Earthen Allied Race show up with many new customization descriptions. Seeing so many for the Harronir took us by surprise!#warcraft #WarWithin [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] — Wowhead (@Wowhead) April 18, 2024 So, what are the Harronir, exactly? Without further information from Blizzard, we can only speculate. Some players believe they look like the missing link between Dark Trolls and Night Elves, given they have small tusks. If this is true, the Harronir could be another Neutral Allied Race, a sort of subterranean elf-like race that have gone undiscovered thus far. One new playable race Blizzard has announced is coming to the long-running MMO with The War Within is the Earthen, the first Neutral Allied Race available to both Alliance and Horde players. For more, be sure to check out IGN’s sweeping interview with World of Warcraft game director Ion Hazzikostas, who answered all our burning questions about the upcoming expansion. The War Within itself launches later in 2024. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. You can reach Wesley at [email protected] or confidentially at *****@*****.tld. 3. Capcom has detailed an upcoming patch for Dragon’s Dogmas 2 that makes a number of changes and fixes, but there’s no mention of the performance mode so many players are waiting for. Following the release of the sprawling action role–playing game in March, players experienced inconsistent framerate performance, particularly on PC. Whereas games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gives players a Performance or Graphics mode option — prioritizing either a consistent framerate or increased graphical output — Dragon's Dogma 2 only has one visual mode across all consoles. Check out IGN’s Dragon's Dogma 2 Performance Review - PS5 vs Xbox Series X/S vs PC, for more. Now, Capcom has announced an upcoming Dragon’s Dogma 2 patch, due out later in April, and confirmed what it sets out to do, but players shouldn’t expect a performance mode. What is included is a nerf to the pesky dragonsplague illness, which turns pawns murderous but only exhibits a few subtle symptoms up to that point (modders have already made things really obvious for PC players by sticking a big number on the follower's forehead). Elsewhere, there are adjustments to pawns’ behavior and dialogue, including a tweak to make it less likely for pawns to fall of cliffs. There’s also a note about reducing the frequency of some pawn dialogue, which should make them a little less annoying to be around. To all Dragon's Dogma 2 players We have an update planned this month with the following adjustments and fixes. We will release them on each platform as soon as they are ready. Thank you for your patience and support! [Hidden Content] — Dragon's Dogma (@DragonsDogma) April 19, 2024 Dragon's Dogma 2 arrived more than a decade after its predecessor on March 22, 2024 and proved a monster hit for publisher Capcom despite being seeped in controversy, selling 2.5 million units in 11 days amid microtransaction and the performance complaints. In our 8/10 review, IGN said: "More of a redo than a sequel, Dragon's Dogma 2 is a strange and wonderful action-RPG that bolsters the original’s strengths without addressing its weaknesses." 7. What are the V Rising system requirements? We're nearing the full launch of V Rising and after a meteoric rise back during its initial early access phase, we're excited to see how far the game has come. It's worth noting that throughout its early access development, the V Rising system requirements have been subject to change, but are now effectively fixed beyond a major graphical overhaul being announced out of nowhere. A contender for one of the best crafting games on PC, V Rising will be looking to recapture its fanbase with the official launch, but a recent price hike may turn some players away. 11. Timed perfectly off the back of the Fallout TV show's success, Fallout 76 players can start testing out Skyline Valley, a new woodland area in the game's upcoming major update. There's a new public event to try, as well as combat readjustments that'll be drip fed over the course of the test *******. Anyone who owns the game on Steam can give these things a go, which is a bonus, too. I think I own it? I genuinely can't remember. Anyway, yes, maybe I'll hop in and see how things have changed since, errr, launch. Read more View the full article

  13. Valve has updated its near 17-year-old competitive first-person shooter Team Fortress 2 to finally add 64-bit support. The update, which some fans are calling the most significant from Valve itself in years, should result in a performance improvement for most users. Reports indicate Team Fortress 2’s frames-per-second count is increased by around 20%, resulting in a much smoother experience. While this Team Fortress 2 update is certainly welcome, it has done little to calm the constant stream of requests from the player base for Valve to tackle the game’s most troublesome issue: bots. Team Fortress 2 has had a **** problem for years, and despite a community-wide drive to raise awareness for the issue, there is little sign of improvement. Team Fortress 2 April 18 update patch notes in full: The major changes include: Added 64-bit support for Windows/Linux client and serverShould include performance improvements for most usersBugs can be reported here: [Hidden Content] an exploit related to uploading invalid custom decals that would ****** other clients Team Fortress 2 launched in 2007 on PC and console, and it has endured as one of Steam’s most popular games ever since. At the time of this article’s publication, Team Fortress 2 was the 16th most-played game on Valve’s platform, with 50,092 concurrent players. That’s more than the likes of Monster Hunter: World, Call of Duty, and Football Manager. Despite Team Fortress 2’s ongoing popularity, players have often accused Valve of neglecting the game in favor of other projects, such as Dota 2. In January, Team Fortress: Source 2 and Portal 64 fan projects were shut down by Valve takedowns. In development since at least 2021, Team Fortress: Source 2 was envisioned as a new version of the classic game on Garry's Mod spiritual successor s&box. With Team Fortress 2 now 17 years old and largely overrun by bots, Team Fortress: Source 2 was intended to inject fresh life into Valve's beloved shooter. The team at one point had more than 20 volunteers helping to port assets from the base game and rebuild Team Fortress 2 mechanics. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. 14. It's now less than a week until Fallout 4's long-awaited next-gen update drops on April 25, bringing with it a bunch of tweaks for different platforms and some fresh goodies you can grab for free. If you're on PC the only issue with that is that updates - especially big ones - tend to play havoc with mods when they first drop, but modding platform Nexus Mods is taking some steps to try and make that transition a bit less of a headache. It's good news, because you probably aren't alone if you've felt unable to stop yourself kicking off a frssh modded playthrough of Fallout 4 after watching Amazon's Fallout TV show, which is now confirmed to be getting a second season. So, while this won't cover Fallout: London, which is a bit different, here's what things'll likely look like modding-wise when the update drops. In a new post, Nexus Mods community manager Pickysaurus has shared a bit of a rundown of the issues this Fallout 4 update will likely cause when it comes to modding, and a couple of handy steps that that the site's taking to help you muddle through the initial aftermath of its arrival. 17. What are the system requirements for Fallout 76? Bethesda's attempt at turning Fallout into an online RPG was met with initial backlash due to poor performance and content issues. Four years later, it holds a mostly positive rating on Steam and has built a very dedicated community. Fallout 76 doesn't demand the best graphics card, instead relying on the now discontinued Nvidia GeForce GTX line of pixel pushers. There's never been a better time to start wandering across West Virginia, especially with the Fallout TV series garnering very positive early impressions. Read the rest of the story... 18. While Cities: Skylines 2 has made progress on the performance front, not everything about the troubled citybuilder is on the up. In fact, player reception to the recently released Beach Properties DLC has proven so un-sunny that both developers Colossal Order and publishers Paradox Interactive have issued a ****** statement apologising for the state it launched in. The letter, addressed to Cities fans and signed by Colossal Order CEO Mariina Hallikainen and Paradox Interactive deputy CEO Mattias Lilja, also promises refunds for anyone who bought Beach Properties. Or, in the case of those who got it through snapping up Skylines 2’s Ultimate Edition, compensation in the form of three Creator Packs and three radio stations. The contentious DLC is also going free to anyone who’s yet to put money down. Read more View the full article

  21. Cities: Skylines 2 continues to struggle. The developer’s chief executive, Mariina Hallikainen, announced on April 18 that all purchases of its first DLC, Beach Properties, will be refunded. She also promised to involve the community more in the development process and pivot away from paid DLC until at least 2025. She said this and more in a post on Paradox Plaza, the official forum of publisher Paradox Interactive. Hallikainen apologized to the community for underperforming and delivering a DLC that “should not have been published in its current form.” The Cities 2 dev at Colossal Order has been trying to make amends with the community following a rocky launch. But its efforts haven’t been “happening at a speed or magnitude that is acceptable,” she said. To make amends, the game’s first DLC, Beach Properties, will be free for all players, and buyers will be refunded the full amount. Players who own the Ultimate Edition, however, will be compensated with extra DLC that is to come. View the full article

  23. No Rest For The Wicked, the top-down soulslike that released yesterday in Steam early access, is already seeing its fair share of performance and QOL issues, including instability, lack of keybinding options, and players losing their progress. In response, developer Moon Studios have put out a blog saying that, yes, they’re aware of the problems and, yes, they’re actively looking to address the most common hiccups. In a section titled “Known Issues We're Already Looking to Address,” the blog lists performance hitches and lack of options to pause in single player or rebind keys, as well as plans to add more aspect ratios and missing localisation. The blog also addresses “Unexpected Progression Loss,” suggesting that players encountering this issue “exit to the main menu, go to your realm in the realms menu and use backups to go back to an earlier save in your realm.” [Hidden Content] Read more View the full article
