2. Many xDefiant players are encountering the Mike-01 error code, preventing them from playing – even if it’s their first time on the game. Considering this is the launch of a new online game, it’s hardly surprising. Why are you getting the Mike-01 error in xDefiant?Upon trying to load into xDefiant, the Mike-01 error may pop up, stating that the Ubisoft servers are unavailable at this time. This could boil down to many factors, as it’s likely that the servers are just fine for other players. The servers could be overloaded, or you could not be connected to the internet, among other reasons. Members of the xDefiant Discord have conversed about the Mike-01 error and how to fix it, so you’re not alone in this problem. Players have taken to Reddit, too.The best course of action isn’t to ponder about the whys, however, but to go through the list of potential fixes until you can get into the game and start playing.Fixes for Mike-01 error fo...View the full article
3. Enlarge / Like the Beach Properties DLC itself, this property looks a bit unfinished and in need of some focus. (credit: Paradox Interactive) Perhaps the first clue that something was not quite right about Beach Properties, the first $10 DLC "expansion" for the already off-kilter city-building sim Cities: Skylines 2, was that it did not contain a real beach house, which one might consider a key beach property. The oversight seemed indicative of a content pack that lacked for content. C:S2's developers and publisher now agree and have published a letter to Cities fans, in which they offer apologies, updates, and refunds. Beach Properties is now a free add-on, individual buyers will be refunded (with details at a FAQ page), and Ultimate Edition owners will receive additional Creator Packs and Radio Stations, since partial refunds are tricky across different game stores. "We thought we could make up for the shortcomings of the game in a timeframe that was unrealistic, and rushed out a DLC that should not have been published in its current form. For all this, we are truly sorry," reads the letter, signed by the CEOs of developer Colossal Order and publisher Paradox Interactive. "When we’ve made statements like this one before, it’s included a pledge to keep making improvements, and while we are working on these updates, they haven’t happened at a speed or magnitude that is acceptable, and it pains us that we've now lost the trust of many of you. We want to do better." Read 4 remaining paragraphs | Comments View the full article

8. The Razer Kishi Ultra is an impressive piece of hardware. To hear Razer representatives speak about it, it's ushering in a new era for mobile gaming. While I'm not 100% sure that it's going to be that impactful, it's hard to argue that it isn't the nicest mobile-first controller design we've seen to date - and that's before getting into how suitable it is as a mid-to-high end PC controller, too, something that is made possible by its meticulous layout and features. In a dev update posted by Blizzard, plans were revealed for all three ****** Knight specs, which will aim to become less affected by “resource flooding,” as well as a dependability on certain spells at the bottom of each talent tree. 10. I didn’t have high hopes for Amazon Prime Video’s Fallout series. Blame the long, long history of bad video game adaptations for those expectations. Yet, I walked away from its eight-episode first season astounded by how well they translated an open-world first-person RPG into a high-budget prestige streaming series. While the nature of the video game series presented the show’s creators with a chance to tell an original story set within a firmly established world packed with deep reservoirs of lore, it also presented them with the more intriguing opportunity to adapt not just the story of a video game, but the medium itself.Light spoilers for Amazon Prime Videos’ Fallout appear below.Adapting a mediumFallout is not the first game-to-screen adaptation to do this, but it has quickly positioned itself at the forefront of a shift in how games are translated into other media. 2023’s Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves did the same thing with a pen-and-pape...View the full article

17. Last week, Square Enix revealed the benchmark trailer for Final Fantasy 14’s upcoming expansion, Dawntrail. While Dawntrail’s showcase of new in-game areas, enemies, and combat garnered positive feedback online, the lifeless eyes of its character creator left a lot to be desired, fans said. In response to the negative feedback, Director Naoki Yoshida has promised a graphical update that will fix its character creator’s soulless eyes. In a recent blog post, Yoshida detailed the technical components that led to Dawntrail’s slightly off-putting character creation system. Chief among them is that Dawntrail’s character creation system is a decade old and is based on the release version of A Realm Reborn. “Although it used the same processes as the actual game, certain aspects (such as weather) were combined to create special conditions exclusive to character creation,” Yoshida said. “This was done to present the texture resolutions and shaders at their best based on the quality standards at the time, which included the PlayStation 3 version. Furthermore, its light sources take advantage of backlighting which, in this case, proved detrimental for showcasing the upcoming graphical update.” Yoshida went on to apologize, saying Dawntrail’s character creation environment should have been updated but was “overlooked” in favor of developing the upcoming expansion and tuning a graphical update for the game. In the wake of Dawntrail’s negative feedback, Yoshida said the team is expediting a rework on environments and lighting sources that, once completed, should “greatly improve the situation.” Three major factors Dawntrail’s graphical rework aims to address are: “Lifeless” eyes due to a lack of highlights in the pupilsFacial contours appearing flattened due to incorrect lighting conditions caused by backlightingA lack of gloss or excessive appearance of gloss due to character creation-exclusive weather conditions (i.e. the use of thunderclouds) “My apologies for asking you to bear with us as we address the points of concern. "As we require some time to investigate the issues and reconstruct the benchmark environment, the timing and further details of the replacement will be announced later,” Yoshida continued. “My apologies for asking you to bear with us as we address the points of concern. The team and I will continue doing our best for the graphical update and Dawntrail's release, and we would appreciate your continued support!" Dawntrail launches on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on July 2, with early access kicking starting on June 28 for those who pre-order. This should give players plenty of time to give Elden Ring’s upcoming DLC a whirl before diving back into Square Enix’s fantasy MMO. Isaiah Colbert is a freelance writer for IGN. 18. It’s never been easier to play Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, especially for those with an Xbox and Game Pass. Benefits like FPS Boost – which makes games that traditionally run at 30 frames-per-second run at a smoother 60fps – and native 4K are possible on Xbox Series X and S thanks to backwards compatibility enhancements, but it’s not quite so straightforward if you’re playing on PC. If that’s the case, to get the best experience you’ll need to use mods – fan-made modifications that add a bunch of quality-of-life add-ons to make the Fallout experience the best it can be. What’s more, the best is Begin Again - A Tale of Two Wastelands, which is a curated collection of over 300 mods that bring two classic Fallout games – Fallout 3 and New Vegas – together in one seamless adventure. Although that might sound daunting, especially if you’re new to PC gaming or haven’t used mods before, it’s actually a lot simpler in practice and we’ll walk you through the process one step at a time. And while the effects of mods are far-reaching and can be anything from small fixes to complete overhauls of a game, for the purposes of this article we’re going to focus on mods that fine tune and improve Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, which are relatively old games that can sometimes struggle on today’s hardware. What You Need It goes without saying but you’ll need a gaming PC, plus a copy of Fallout 3: Game of the Year Edition and a copy of Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate. Note, it has to be these versions of the two games because they include all of the DLC expansions – the versions on Game Pass do not have these, so won’t work. You’ll also need a [Hidden Content] account, which is free to create and is the place where you can find all the mods you need. Lastly, you’ll need to download Wabbajack, which is an automated mod-list installer that makes the process of installing mods – especially ones like Begin Again, which comprise lots of smaller mods – much easier. And that’s it - you’re ready to go. Why Begin Again - Tale of Two Wastelands is The Best Fallout Mod Simply put, this tailored list of over 300 mods, maintained by SpringHeelJon on Nexus Mods, is the ultimate way to enjoy both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas. It adds countless quality-of-life improvements, texture enhancements, deep in-game customization options, and balance changes, but most importantly merges both the D.C. and Mojave Wasteland into an interconnected experience, with the inclusion of a brand new quest that sees you restoring power to a train station deep within the ruined ********* capital. It is, in our opinion, the best way to experience Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas on PC and is the perfect introduction to the games if you’ve just finished watching the TV show. The list of benefits it brings to the games is extensive, but here are some of the highlights: Vanilla UI+, as well as the HUD Editor, help to enhance your PC-specific experience. Not only can you fully customise your HUD, moving, removing and resizing whichever element you see fit, but you can also benefit from more in-game information too, like your Pip-Boy displaying extra ******* and armour stats, typically unseen in the console version. Mods like SawyerBatty and PerkSawyer provide gameplay tweaks that help re-balance your time in the Wastelands, by making adjustments to difficulty, stats of weapons, armour, and items, removing the level cap, and more. They’re based on a previously released modification by Joshua Sawyer – the project director and lead designer of Fallout: New Vegas – called the JSawyer New Vegas mod. There’s also full integration of DLC-specific weapons and armour sets across both games. This means you’re able to use unique weaponry like the Holorifle, once exclusive to Fallout: New Vegas’ ***** Money DLC, while exploring the irradiated landscapes of Fallout 3. Additionally, there’s a tremendous amount of in-game customization options on offer. Want to tweak how much XP you earn from a specific action, or you’re thinking about disabling certain NPC behaviour that really bothers you? It’s all possible and is easily accessible, allowing for greater customization than ever before. Jesse Gomez is the *** Video Producer for IGN. View the full article
19. Ahead of Final Fantasy 14’s next massive expansion, Dawntrail, arriving this summer, Square Enix recently put out a graphical benchmarking tool. Dawntrail’s benchmark is especially noteworthy as it’s the first time we’ve really been able to put the MMO’s much-anticipated graphical update arriving with 7.0 into practice and see what sort of demands it might make on our hardware by overhauling the 10-year-old game’s visuals. 20. Enlarge / Its creator calls the "Short Stack" the world's smallest scale model replica of the Nintendo Wii (bottom). (credit: James Smith) The miniaturization of retro tech has always been a major obsession for modders, from the person who fit an original NES into a Game Boy-sized portable to the person who made a mini-er version of Apple's Mac mini. One mod in this storied genre that caught our eye this week is the "Short Stack," a scale model of the Nintendo Wii that packs the 2006 console's internal hardware into a 3D-printed enclosure roughly the size of a deck of playing cards. "You could fit 13.5 of these inside an original Wii," writes James Smith (aka loopj), the person behind the project. All the design details, custom boards, and other information about recreating the mod are available on GitHub. Read 5 remaining paragraphs | Comments View the full article
