  1. Activision claims to have banned over 27,000 Call of Duty accounts over the weekend. The company said improved detection systems and fresh security updates are helping it root out bad actors, and that players should expect further ban waves. The latest wave followed last week’s launch of Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone Season 3, and coincided with a free multiplayer trial which ran from April 4-8. Read More... View the full article
  2. Despite the optimism around the changes to ranked coming into season 20 of Apex Legends, the competitive experience has been at the mercy of cheaters, especially in the upper echelons. Now, Respawn is taking the first step in remedying this, tightening up party restrictions after previously removing them. In an Apex patch released today on April 8, a limit of a three rank tier difference has been implemented on parties queuing up for ranked. While such a large pool still gives players a lot of freedom to run games with friends in other ranks, it should prevent cheaters with fresh accounts from worming their way into Master and Apex Predator lobbies. In the same update, Respawn also fixed ranked badges to display the correct ranks and addressed a connection error some players encountered when reconnecting after a ******. View the full article

  7. Despite the genre’s massive popularity, horror game developers struggle to design titles with lasting impact, and part of that is because of the high bar set by games like the Silent Hill and Resident Evil franchises that came before. Another possibility is other games bank on jump scares and cheap thrills. While it is simple enough to understand the anatomy of a good horror game, the abundance of lackluster titles demonstrates that tuning these elements is a difficult art form to truly master. STREAMER EVENT THIS WEDNESDAY, APRIL 10 Don't miss your first opportunity to see the new set in action during the Outlaws of Thunder Junction Streamer Event, happening this Wednesday, April 10, kicking off at 8 a.m. PT Join popular Magic streamers on YouTube and Twitch as they open packs, talk about the new cards and strategies, and do some live drafting and playing to take the new set through its paces! HISTORIC BANNED LIST UPDATECards banned in Historic Force of Vigor Commandeer Reanimate Mana DrainIn our last update, we rebalanced Fragment Reality and Geological Appraiser, which were outliers in our otherwise diverse Historic metagame. Those changes have proven positive, and we are happy with the current state of the format. We believe now is a great time for classic cards like Stoneforge Mystic, Path to Exile, and Surgical Extraction to be added with Outlaws of Thunder Junction. We hope that these powerful new additions will create new competitive archetypes and unique play patterns. One of the things that defines Historic's power level is game speed. We have been cautious of free spells in the format that allow for a rapid change in tempo. To maintain the current game pace, Commandeer and Force of Vigor are banned in Historic. Another defining characteristic of Historic is its overall card power level, particularly now that Timeless exists as the highest-powered format on Arena. The Breaking News Bonus sheet brings some clear power outliers, so Mana Drain and Reanimate are banned in Historic. TIMELESS As MTG Arena's newest and most powerful format, players have been rapidly experimenting and exploring. Timeless continues to evolve as new cards get added to the game and decks adapt to keep dominant cards in check. While Timeless is still new and developing, we want to let players play with cards before we apply any restrictions or bans to them. Mana Drain is certain to be an impactful addition, so we will be monitoring how it changes the metagame and will take action if it proves to be too much. Finally, we need to talk a bit about the card discussed the most since its release with Murders at Karlov Manor, Show and Tell. While its play rate has been higher than we would like to see, decks using the card currently have a consistent win rate when compared with other high-performing archetypes. If Timeless were static, we would strongly consider restricting Show and Tell due to its play rate. However, we expect Timeless to change a lot this year with new format-defining cards from Outlaws of Thunder Junction and Modern Horizons 3. We will see how Timeless evolves before making a decision on Show and Tell. REMIX DRAFT: ARTIFACTS CONTINUES THIS WEEK The latest Draft format event in MTG Arena, Remix Draft: Artifacts, continues for one more week. 13. The main element of Once Human is survival. Without that part, you can’t craft and ****** well — or at all. Knowing how to survive properly is fundamental, but you won’t get far without setting up camp at the best locations to build in Once Human. The spots in this guide aren’t fixed, but they should give you a good idea of where to start building. Once Human: Best locations to build Before going on, each of the following areas aren’t landmarks. They’re great areas that I’ve used to build bases. The reason is that they’re around almost everything you’ll need. Additionally, if you’re farming one specific ingredient, some of these locations can help with that. Image: Starry StudiosIdeal places to make a baseNear dense vegetation: Forested areas are in abundance, and rich with many resources. For my first camp, I made one in the middle of the woods. 16. Baldur’s Gate 3 is going strong eight months after release, with players still learning things the hard way as if it came out yesterday. One such player was met with an unfortunate circumstance in the game’s Honor mode due to taking the leisure of Balanced difficulty for granted. On April 7, one Baldur’s Gate 3 player shared their experience with the game’s Honor mode, a difficulty level recently added in Patch 5, in a massive Reddit thread. As the hardest difficulty to play BG3 on, Honor naturally has its strange caveats—ones the player likely didn’t even dream of after beating the game on the recommended Balanced mode. Since Balanced offers players plenty of opportunities to heal and rest up at the so-called restoration pods, Reddit user ecchi_yajur’s Honor mode run was absolutely ruined when they found out that Larian removed those restoration pods from certain locations to spice up the Honor mode gameplay. 19. If you're looking for ways to expand Starfield's replayability, a new "DLC-sized" mod is now available, allowing players to build their own colony, create mechs, and more. Over on Nexus Mods yesterday, modder TankGirl444 uploaded their latest project, TGs Galactic Colonies Expanse. The creator describes it as a "new DLC-sized mod" for Bethesda's 2023 space action RPG. The description touts that those who download it will be able to "land on any world and build [their] own empire!" TankGirl444 explains that the mod took them a month to craft and that it expands on their previous mods that were aimed at improving and expanding player home and building in Starfield. More importantly, it greatly expands the Outpost mechanic, allowing players a more streamlined way to mine materials without having to create different outposts. The mod's description also explains that it includes "fully constructed buildings that are prefabricated and buildable." This includes biodomes, which allow players to plant a small piece of green on desolate and barren wasteland planets. Interestingly, this mod introduces a farming system where players can farm, craft, and sell fruits and veggies. It even allows you to have your own livestock. Alongside an expansive farming system, the mod features a new workbench called the colony food printer, which adds new food items and recipes. Yet, the thing I found most intriguing is how this new mod brings functional mechs into Starfield, as seen in the image below. Those who played Starfield or are familiar with the events before the game, mainly The Colony War, will know that mechs have a place in Starfield lore. Ahead of the game's release, Bethesda revealed that mechs were in the game, but you could not use them as they were banned after the conclusion of the Colony War. This mod brings back the mechs, letting you craft and use them as a defense for your outposts. It also reveals new turrets and weapons you can craft to defend your virtual property. Starfield has been out for roughly six months now, and alongside TGs Galactic Colonies Expanse, there are a slew of other quality-of-life mods that help enhance the gameplay experience. Among them are one that improves the frustrating inventory UI, another that provides a map of New Atlantis so you don't get lost while exploring the massive city, and another that lets you seamlessly travel through space. While there are many modders adding quality-of-life improvements to Starfield, Bethesda Game Studios is also introducing some changes via patches. The most recent update, Starfield Update 1.10.31, removes an annoying penalty players can receive when playing the lockpicking minigame.
