Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6 is bringing back old school prestige from Activision's earlier titles, allowing dedicated players to rest their rank up to ten times, with a master-tier 1,000 level leveling system. THis was announced during the Call of Duty showcase, following the Xbox Showcase, at Summer Game Fest 2024. In the reveal, the devs noted that they have a soft spot for this older style of prestige, and that it'll work a lot like it did in some of the more classic titles. In addition, a special reward was teased. For those able to push past all ten prestige milestones, and reach level 1,000 in the master tier prestige, a mysterious prize is waiting for them. There's no word on what that is, but it certainly is tantalizing. Read more View the full article
Microsoft have released a new trailer for South Of Midnight, a third-person action adventure from Compulsion Games, who created dystopian Britpop survival game We Happy Few. I thought We Happy Few had some wonderful ideas and presentation - it's sort of Fable by way of Clockwork Orange and Bioshock - but found its mixture of pill-popping satire and survival game mechanisms self-defeating. South Of Midnight seems no less vivid, but a lot more assured in its **** Of War-style action... and it's perhaps a bit less intriguing, as a consequence. Still, don't just sit there reading my opinions. Watch the trailer. Read more View the full article
Ditto was one of the brightest stars at the Pokémon North America International Championships (NAIC) this weekend, and Dot Esports spoke to VGC veteran Jeudy Azzarelli about his impressive run with the Transform Pokémon and how to use it. On the VGC side, the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet meta has been quite diverse in Regulation G, and that definitely showed at NAIC this weekend. While the usage charts were still topped by the usual suspects like Incineroar and Urshifu, we also saw tons of niche picks on stream, like Alex Underhill’s Electabuzz, Shiliang *****’s Wo-Chien, and Jeudy Azzarelli’s Ditto. In fact, Ditto even claimed the last spot on the top 12 most-used Pokémon on day two of the event. View the full article

Indiana Jones And The Great Circle, Indy’s upcoming FPS adventure game, has a new ‘Official Showcase Reveal’ trailer, officially showcasing and revealing basically nothing about the game except that it features some pretty and decently acted cutscenes, which we already knew from the previous reveal. It does have snow nazis in however, possibly the rarest flavour of ***** after Cookies n’ Cream and Original. You’ll find the trailer below. Be careful: it’s official. Also, it’s mainly just one very long cutscene, so if you want to save that stuff for when the game’s out, maybe don’t bother. Read more View the full article

Image: Microsoft Game Studios It’s a **** world once again. At its Xbox Games Showcase at Summer Game Fest, Microsoft revealed the latest entry in the sci-fi shooter series: Gears of War E-Day. It’s being developed by The Coalition, Xbox’s internal studio dedicated to all things Gears. The game doesn’t currently have a release date, but it being built on Unreal Engine 5. The announcement trailer harkens back to the classic “**** World” commercial for the original Gears. Fittingly, E-Day is set 14 years before the first Gears, and “tells the story of the first Locust emergence on Sera.” It once again stars Marcus Fenix and is being billed as an origin story. This will be the first title in the series since Gears 5 in 2019, which was part of a plan from Microsoft to turn... Continue reading… View the full article
Stalker 2 is back with a brand-new trailer at the Xbox Showcase, giving us a glimpse into the ravaged world of everyone's favourite Chernobyl nightmare game. Presented during Summer Game Fest 2024, Stalker 2's new trailer shows off plenty of gameplay, HUD and all. It's been a long road for the Stalker team. Initially based in Ukraine, the entire studio moved over to the Czech Republic due to the Russian-Ukraine war. This extraordinary struggle, on top of the already stressful process of making a video game, obviously added a lot of pressure to the development. It's good to see the team's labours finally bear fruit on the big stage. Read more View the full article
A new Gears of War game has just been announced. Gears of War: E-Day is a prequel to the original trilogy, taking us back to the initial events of the world-wrecking war when the Locust emerged from the earth. There's no release date as of yet, but we know it's launching on Game Pass when it eventually comes out. You can watch the trailer for yourself below. It's a cinematic trailer capping off Xbox's presence at Summer Game Fest 2024, but a good tone setter with a slower (somehow sadder) rendition of **** World. That song was previously used in classic Gears trailers, pointing to this as a rollback to the original characters. There's no more info as of yet, but it's a bold move by The Coalition. Microsoft too! Launching this on Game Pass ia a big get, as though who used the service to play Gears 5 will know well. Read more View the full article

MachineGames' take on the classic film series Indiana Jones has been a long time coming (it was announced way back in 2021, if you can believe it), and though it ******** on track for release later this year, The Great Circle still doesn't have a release date. The latest trailer for Obsidian Entertainment's Avowed is here, bringing with it new gameplay to goggle over, but no release date as of yet After announcing that Avowed would be releasing sometime this fall earlier this year, Obsidian Entertainment showed at Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase a bit of the action we can expect to mess around with come later this year when it eventually launches on Xbox and PC. Alas, we'll have to wait a little longer to mark our calanders. Avowed was first revealed way back in 2020, though Obsidian didn't actually show off any gameplay until a few years later in 2023. It'll be the first new RPG from Obsidian since 2019, which saw the release of The Outer Worlds, its own take on a futuristic, sci-fi world in the vein of the Fallout series, though ****** all the '60s stuff. Since then it has released titles like Grounded and Pentiment, but Avowed will mark a return to the RPG format for the long standing developer. Read more View the full article

I never played the original Perfect Dark, but the trailer for the reboot shown during this evening's Xbox Games Showcase instantly made it the most exciting game I've seen during not-E3. It's first-person, it's got stealth, it's got parkour, it's got hand-to-hand melee combat including slidekicks. It looks like a mashup of Mirror's Edge and something more immersive sim-y? What's not to like. Read more View the full article
