  1. The huge Helldivers 2 patch that folks have been waiting for for a good liitle while now has just dropped and, well, it's just as hefty as Arrowhead had been teasing. Seriously, there are more ******* balancing tweaks than you can comprehend, and an entire separate post dedicated to help you understand why certain changes have been made. You can check out the entire list of changes in the patch notes as per usual, but this time there's also a separate post authored by Arrowhead chief creative officer Johan Pilestedt that goes into more detail on the balancing changes the studio's made. "With these balance changes we wanted to buff up some of the weaker stratagems to make them more viable and add more opportunity for variety in loadouts," he writes, "We also changed a few to make them more consistent, but the goal was to keep a similar or higher power level. We are looking into the stratagems more to see if there are any other stratagems that might need some buffs or changes to make them more viable." Read more View the full article
  2. Helldivers, we may struggle against the Automaton, but we have won the war for visible Supply Lines in Helldivers 2. Patch 01.000.400 is here to stay, with over 100 changes to make liberty feel oh-so-sweet again. An overwhelming number of changes came with Patch 01.000.400 on June 13. Helldivers can now hop back into action and liberate planets with their newfound knowledge of Planet Origin and Supply Lines. We will no longer have to suffer in silence, figuring out how a planet became overrun with bugs; the Supply Lines now point us in the right direction. Showcased in colors to match Automaton, Terminid, and Super Earth control, it’s now clear where an ******* starts and ends. View the full article

  4. Mental Salvo describes itself as having an "infinite open world" in which you can do so many things, "they're impossible to list". Were this a game from a triple-A publisher, I'd be heading down to their compound with some powerful magnets and cannisters of highly concentrated acid to wipe out their ungodly creation before it replaces the fundamental particles of our universe with waypoints. But Mental Salvo is actually the work of new indie imaginini (yes, no capital-I), and is a "top down art adventure with light RPG elements" that is perhaps a bit ZANY but also, refreshingly playful in essentially being about poking a big white screen to see what tumbles out of it. 7. In what is possibly the biggest scandal the *** has seen since the last time the price of Freddos went up, a digital rights campaigner is suing Valve for £656m in compensation, accusing the company of overcharging and anti-competitive behaviour. The accompanying website describes the collective action claim as a “ground-breaking legal action,” which is very gamer of them. 16 times the litigation, etc. Read more View the full article

The update is rolling out gradually over the coming weeks, starting with PS5 owners in Japan and Asia followed by Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the Middle East, and then finally the US and Canada. You’ll need to update your PS5 to the latest system software to get this new Discord integration, and a PlayStation Network account... Continue reading… View the full article
  10. It's happening again! Marvel Studios has lost yet another director for its long-in-the-works Blade reboot, which still has Mahershala Ali attached to star. We'll be surprised if he's still around by the end of 2024 at this rate though. It was only a few months ago that Ali himself offered a promising update regarding the script status of the movie, as Logan and Blade Runner 2049's Michael Green was working on a new version of the story. In spite of the encouraging news and rumors of a definitive production start date being locked, the project is now facing yet another wave of rewrites, and director Yann Demange (Lovecraft Country) isn't sticking around any longer. The news arrived via The Wrap on June 12, confirming the filmmaker's exit as well as ****** Widow and The Fantastic Four scribe Eric Pearson taking over a new draft of the script. "According to an insider with knowledge, getting “Blade” right is much more important than getting the film out," adds The Wrap's Umberto Gonzalez. Read more View the full article

  12. Right, so having been played at every sporting event known to man and put out some undeniably incredible thrash bangers back in the day, Metallica are now doing what everything that exists in our world must - pop up in Fortnite, via an update that launches today, June 13. To be fair, being in a mosh pit filled with folks in Fallout's T-60 power armour as James Hetfield and co belt out Enter Sandman loud enough to shatter your eardrums through your helmet sounds like a pretty good time. Just make sure you don't accidentally step on anyone's toes with your metal boots. As announced via a blog post, Fortnite Festival Season 4 will feature a bunch of Metallica-themed stuff to celebrate the fact they're performing in the mode on June 22 and 23. "Metallica: Fuel. *****. Fury" is the name of their set in the mode, with Master of Puppets, Ride the Lightning, and The Unforgiven looking like they'll be part of the initial tracklist. 13. Faker’s controversial Hall of Legends Ahri skin is now available in League of Legends. Some players have already undoubtedly cashed out on the expensive skin and spent their hard-earned money on repping Faker, but we doubt they have even had the chance to use it yet. Ahri’s ban rate in solo ****** has skyrocketed since the Faker bundle released. At the time of writing, the champion has a ban rate of up to 16 percent in some ranks. It’s doubled and even tripled in some cases, according to a League stats site, LoLalytics. View the full article
  14. A collective action being brought against Valve Corporation in the *** accuses the Steam operator of abusing its dominant position in the marketplace and ripping off consumers. Digital rights campaigner and class representative Vicki Shotbolt filed a £656 million claim on behalf of 14 million PC players at the Competition Appeal Tribunal on June 5. “We believe Valve Corporation has been unfairly shutting out competition for PC games and in-game content, which has meant that *** customers have paid too much for these products,” reads a statement on a website dedicated to the claim. 16. It’s rare for an ability power carry to bring so much heat to the League of Legends **** lane, but that’s exactly what Brand has done in Patch 14.12. The spike in power is so high that players have begun begging Riot to make quick changes. Brand is one of those League champions that fewer and fewer people have been picking as their main champions because there’s cooler, flashier, and newer champions to play and spam from more recent seasons. He’s an enjoying quite the resurgence right now though; he’s already ticked up a nice 53.97 percent win rate across all ranks as an AP carry in Patch 14.12, according to stat page U.GG’s early numbers. 17. There’s a major advantage to Bungie’s Destiny franchise: Varying levels of content difficulty. If you want to jump in casually, you’re bound to have as much fun as the ********* crew smashing out Grandmaster Nightfalls or solo’ing dungeons. But, participating or not, all eyes turn to the launch day of a raid—World’s First. World’s First is a race in which Destiny 2 players across the globe team up in fireteams of six and attempt to clear the raid before all others. With no knowledge of each encounter’s mechanics or the many, many ways a fireteam can be wiped, becoming World’s First requires an intimate level of Destiny knowledge, a touch of puzzle-solving, and clear team communication. 19. Riot Games leadership may have been proud of its newest defense of the highly controversial $500 Faker bundle that’s stunned the League of Legends world, but their recent comments haven’t made things any better. In fact, League game director Pu Liu’s latest suggestions during a Q&A session at Summer Game Fest, where he declared the staggering price point was “justified” and pointed out the studio has to go to these lengths because most players and esports fans enjoy the Runeterra franchise “for zero dollars,” suggest Riot’s leadership team may not yet realize just how wrong they got this one. 24. Welcome to a Thursday thick with thoroughly great deals. PC gamers should check out the remnants of the Xbox Showcase ***** before they're all goneski. Console folk should look into some pretty awesome preorder prices for Astrobot, *********'s Creed Shadows, and more! In retro news, I'm celebrating the 12th birthday of Lollipop Chainsaw, a Suda51 cult-hit. Admittedly, it didn't garner much in the way of high scores, but I still recall it being the best game about a zombie-slaying cheerleader armed with a portable power tool and the disembodied head of her boyfriend... I've ever played. Had a whole buncha rock solid references to horror flicks and IRL musicians, too. Would yank the starter cord for another play of it again.
