  1. As of writing, phase three of World of Warcraft Season of Discovery is well underway. Thousands of people are rushing into a remixed Sunken Temple raid, wiping to basic boss mechanics, not winning loot rolls, and getting rinsed for all their gold on enchants. It's all going rather well. In fact, the success of Season of Discover has eclipsed even Blizzards' expectations. Speaking to VG247 during a press preview of the upcoming World of Warcraft War Within expansion, executive producer Holly Longdale pulled back the curtain on the reception to Classic Wow's outball season, as well as the thought process behind the current varied approach to WoW content. "We thought it would be popular, and it was more popular than we thought," Longdale stated, when asked how the Season of Discovery was doing. "I can't give you exact numbers but it's probably double what we expected. We're doing so much experimental stuff- this idea of not testing [...], it adds a lot of risk. But it's Season of Discovery so it's kinda part of the ethos! It's been great, and a huge learning experience for how we do things in the future and how the later phases go." 2. World of Warcraft just announced the plans for its public alpha testing ******* for The War Within, with the first public build going live on April 18. 3. Season 10 of Overwatch 2 is finally here, and while it does pack plenty of goodies for players, the new Mythic Prism currency it introduces has fans disappointed due to the considerably high prices players will have to pay to obtain them. Many fans of Overwatch 2 have been interested in an alternative method of obtaining the elusive mythic-tier skins that come out with every new season, but for now, it seems that grinding out each battle pass ******** the easiest way of unlocking them. 4. Final Fantasy 16 The Rising Tide is almost here, and in preparation for the eagerly-anticipated DLC developer Square Enix has dropped a comprehensive new FF16 update. Not only have we received the usual slew of balance adjustments and bugfixes, but top-tier quality-of-life additions have also been implemented in FF16 1.31. Most importantly for this writer, though, are the buffs to petting Clive's best friend in the whole of Valisthea, Torgal. Read the rest of the story... 5. What's the first game that jumps into your head when you hear the word 'classic'? If you go back to the PC heyday of the early and mid '90s, Civilization, SimCity, Fallout, *****, and Myst might be some of the names that come to mind. Over the last decade or so, Skyrim, Cyberpunk 2077, and Baldur's Gate 3 have become some of the biggest contemporary hits. The legacies of some games last forever. Others are lost to time. And then there's a middle-ground third category, games you perhaps haven't thought about in many, many years, but should they resurface, spark a sudden wave of nostalgia. Originally launched all the way back in 1982, and followed by an underplayed sequel in 2005, one erstwhile classic is making a comeback, in a new Metroidvania game you can play soon. 6. Tokens in Monopoly GO are cosmetic game pieces that can earn additional rewards by building up your collection, but they don’t drop often. Everybody who plays Monopoly GO has certain areas of focus while playing, whether finishing first in a tournament or collecting cosmetics. My wife is all about leveling up boards, having passed board 200 sometime in early April while collecting Tokens and Shields is more my jam. No matter what your focus is in Monopoly GO, you’ll need Dice to roll, so be sure to collect off free Dice links that drop daily and save them when there’s nothing worth rolling for. 7. Image: Riley Testut The Delta emulator is coming to Apple App Store — for free — outside of the ********* Union, where it’s available via the third-party AltStore PAL app marketplace that just went live. The app will mark the first significant and officially sanctioned game emulator for the iPhone since Apple began allowing them, with wide-ranging console emulation from the original Nintendo Entertainment System to the Nintendo 64 (and even the ***** Genesis, for when you want to play those games that Nintendon’t). Delta developer Riley Testut told The Verge via email that the app will be identical to the version debuting with AltStore PAL. The app features on-screen buttons that change their layout and appearance to match whatever system you’re emulating. ... Continue reading… View the full article
  8. That €1.50 per year subscription does not include tax but does offset Apple’s Core Technology Fee. | Image: AltStore PAL After we recently tested it in beta, the third-party iOS app store AltStore PAL is now live in the ********* Union thanks to Apple’s compliance with the region’s Digital Markets Act (DMA). Installing AltStore PAL requires clicking through a lot of Apple’s clumsily implemented scare sheets that double and triple check your ******* to install apps from outside Apple’s App Store. But with persistence and enough clicks it eventually installs. The new app marketplace is arriving with two apps developed by Riley Testut: Delta, an emulator capable of playing NES, SNES, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS games; and Clip, a clipboard manager that’s forbidden by Apple. The store is the work of Testut and his business partner... Continue reading… View the full article
  9. Landing on a distant, desolate planet, it’s up to you to terraform and revive the dust bowl into a vibrant home for animals and vegetation. However, The best-***** plans of mice and men often go awry, and you might find your initial base submerged as the planet comes to life. So, the question stands, will your hard earned machines work underwater in The Planet Crafter? Will machines function underwater in Planet Crafter?Nope, once they get submerged, all your machines are out of action. You may notice it as your early power suppliers, such as solar panels and wind turbines, go offline. All of a sudden, you’re low on power, and you can’t figure out why.I noticed my heat levels stagnating drastically as the water rose. This made me realise that, in fact, machines do not work underwater in Planet Crafter. How to avoid losing machines in Planet CrafterThe first thing you should do is make sure you build your first base high up on a plateau. 11. Enlarge / See that fortress over there? You can explore it. And then ****, when someone in your party remembers a tragic incident involving meat and perishes of sadness. (credit: Bay 12 Games/Kitfox) [/url] "I'm crying for some reason," says Tarn Adams, demonstrating Dwarf Fortress' "Adventure Mode" for a Discord stream full of games writers and PR folk. His adventurer is crying, that is. "Something must have upset me. Probably the ***** bodies… I have great grouchiness, though." Adventure Mode, out today, builds on the graphical version of Dwarf Fortress and the work you've put into it. The adventurers you create and send out into the world traverse the overland and underground places you yourself crafted. This allows you to both appreciate the realms carved out by your imagination and also be a kind of dungeon master for other adventurers (with, hopefully, an easier fortress-swapping mechanic to come soon). You can also generate a new world if you prefer the simulation's weird choices to your own. [Hidden Content] Release trailer for Dwarf Fortress' Adventure Mode update. Everything about the standard simulation version of playing Dwarf Fortress applies to playing it as a ********* CRPG. Everything has layers, all is described, and the combination of deep logic and utter silliness is unmatched. Read 4 remaining paragraphs | Comments View the full article
  12. We've all been there, wanting to download yet another backlog game, but finding that our Steam Deck doesn't have enough storage. Well, one ambitious modder took matters into their own hands and built a physical Steam Deck mod to expand their storage to a huge 19TB, splitting community opinions in the process. We've said it many times before, but the Steam Deck is easily the best handheld gaming PC, and creative uses like this are a big reason why. Seeing this massive Steam Deck alteration come together is so impressive, but many community members are not sharing our sentiment. Read the rest of the story... 13. Overwatch 2’s new “wide group” feature, allowing players to group with players at any rank, is a great idea in theory. But the matchmaking times players are seeing tell a different story. Competitive Wide Groups, added as part of yesterday’s season 10 update, seem to have increased matchmaking times for many players, with some posting their ****** times of over an hour long. 14. It's sounding like Sonic 3 is set to be a hit with massive fans of the series, if you ask Knuckles himself Idris Elba anyway. When you head back and look at the Sonic film, it feels pretty clear that the film was meant to be pretty broadly appealing, likely due to execs meddling - how else do you think we ended up at ugly Sonic? Moreso, though, it mostly felt like a film that could have had any superfast animal in it hanging out with James Marsden, with a few small but fun references scattered throughout. Sonic 2 had a bit more fun with it, but based on a brief recent interview between the voice of knuckles Idris Elba and Collider, it sounds like fans have a bit more to look forward to this time. When asked about details on the film, Elba responded, " I can tease nothing. No, seriously. I don't even know what's gonna happen in it. No, I'm joking. I can tell you that it's super exciting. I can tell you that it really does get deeper into the universe of Sonic. I think 3's probably the one for all the real diehard Sonic fans. They're gonna get all of those Easter eggs in it. Jim [Carrey] is incredible, man. What a performance. It’s so great to work against, even though I'm never there with him, but I get to hear his voice. *****." Read more View the full article
  15. Odds are if you're a Fallout fan, you've already, for better or worse, blazed through Amazon's Fallout TV show. It's probably left you feeling like hopping back into your Fallout game of choice, and if that's Fallout 4, a new mod is definitely worth grabbing, mainly because it involves Walton Goggins. Yup, we here at VG247 - even Tom - love the Goggins, and we loved seeing him in Fallout, both in raw (regular Goggins) and chargrilled (ghoul) form. He's so beautiful and funny you almost forget to take in all of the fun little references and easter eggs from the games that're constantly surrounding him. Anyway, the mod that I'm about to say some things about is called 'Cooper Howard Billboard ( TV show)', it's by modder MrBloodjack, and no, I won't give you a bottle of Nuka Cola if you can guess what it does. 16. If there's something we all love it's a bit of the old ultra-*********, especially when said ********* oozes style as well as blood. Thankfully new roguelike FPS Mullet **** Jack has both. 17. Fallout's tagline may be "war never changes", but don't tell that to hero modder Quin. War has changed an awful lot in their Fallout world, which is now populated by zombies, dogs, and lickers, as well as being patrolled by the hunkiest version of Chris Redfield and a permanently irate Sheva Alomar. 18. dventure mode, Dwarf Fortress's lesser-appreciated RPG-style alternative to building and managing a colony of dwarves, is finally playable on Steam, with snazzy new pixel art graphics, a whole new set of songs, and the same detailed UI makeover the main mode got when it launched in late 2022. It's launching today in beta, which means it's not quite finished, but the bulk of the mode is there, allowing you to go into one of your own fortresses for a ground-level view or go out into the world in search of quests...
