  2. Final Fantasy 16's second DLC, The Rising Tide, adds a whole new region to its map - but in terms of size, that could mean many different things. Although it has a pretty sizable world map, FF16 is not an open-world game. Each region varies in size, and is connected to the next one only in limited, specified areas, and players can't travel to most of them until they unlock new areas through the story. Despite this linearity, most map regions open up completely as soon as they're unlocked, providing plenty of opportunity for exploration. 3. Thanks to the excellent new Amazon show, the world is currently going wild for Fallout, to the extent that the old games are rocketing up the charts again. The series was instantly renewed for a second season, and modders have got to work cramming TV stuff into the games. It's Fallout mania! Wait, didn't Bethesda have another big game recently?.. 4. Now that’s what I call a big hunt! It took Helldivers 2 players less than 24 hours to complete its latest Major Order: to ***** two billion Terminids. On April 18, developer Arrowhead triggered the next step in Helldivers 2’s ongoing Galactic War after the PC and PlayStation 5 co-op shooter’s community successfully completed a Major Order to slow a significant Automaton invasion. Game Master Joel turned players’ attention to the Terminid front with the biggest ***** order since the game’s explosive launch in February. Helldivers 2 players were given six days to ***** two billion Terminids, which sounded like an insurmountable task, but players made it clear they’d hit the ***** count sooner rather than later. So fast was progress that some wondered if Helldivers 2’s Terminid ***** tracker was bugged. But today, April 19, the Major Order is complete and medals have been dished out to players as a reward. Cementing the achievement is an in-universe message from the official Helldivers 2 Twitter account: 2 billion bugs ***** in less than a day. Helldivers, Terminid planets run red with liberty thanks to this inspiring display of pre-emptive self-defence. Your designated [loved one/relative/****/neighbour] on Super Earth has been informed of your bravery.[Hidden Content] — HELLDIVERS™ 2 (@helldivers2) April 19, 2024 In the game itself, messages celebrating Super Earth’s victory make clear this bug clearout came as something of a surprise. ”In further proof of their elite training and irreplaceable value, the Helldivers reached the target set for Terminid biomass production far faster than anticipated,” the message reads. “While additional destruction of Liberty’s enemies is always beneficial, E-710 refinement pipelines are full at the present time. However, there will be ample opportunities for additional biomass production in the future. “Super Earth High Command commends the Helldivers for their boundless enthusiasm to ******** the enemies of Freedom.” The upshot of this is Helldivers 2 players head into the weekend without a Major Order to work towards, which means it’s weapons free time for the community. That’s no bad thing, really. ***** Automatons or Terminids or whatever you fancy! As Arrowhead maintains the Galactic War and adds new content to the game, it’s also battling bugs of a different kind. This push and pull was a topic discussed by CEO Johan Pilestedt recently as part of a fascinating insight into Arrowhead’s live service philosophy. If you’re looking for more on Helldivers 2, check out IGN’s feature on the Let Me Solo Her of Helldivers 2, a player who has answered over 100 **** Beacons as part of a mission to help others. Helldivers 2 has become one of the surprise hits of 2024 since launching in February, topping the charts on Steam and reportedly selling around three million copies. According to at least one analyst, it's still growing. Check out IGN's Helldivers 2 review to find out why it's going down so well. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. 6. The legacy of World of Warcraft is writ large through the MMO genre. There isn't a single MMORPG that doesn't pay homage, at least in part, to Blizzard's multiplayer titan. In the upcoming free-to-play Tarisland that inspiration is worn clearly on the game's sleeve. Now, it's gearing up for a full release and developer Tencent is asking prospective players to sign up in a big pre-registration push. Read the rest of the story... 7. While Counter-Strike 2 ******** the dominant force on Steam, Valve also resolutely holds onto the number two spot with its other landmark multiplayer game, Dota 2. Few games can unseat the MOBA, with only brief outpacing from PUBG Battlegrounds and Lost Ark and launch peaks from the likes of Palworld, Baldur's Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, and Elden Ring climbing ever so slightly ahead of it. Now, in an attempt to capitalize on its continued popularity, Valve is introducing Dota 2 Crownfall, an "ongoing story event filled with legendary heroes and unique rewards" that's available to all players of the free Steam game. 8. Sony, yes, the company behind PlayStation, is reportedly considering making a bid to buy Paramount, the massive media that currently has the likes of Nickelodeon and MTV, as well as Paramount Pictures and Paramount+ - though you might well have been able to guess those latter two - under its umbrella. This is according to reports from The New York Times and Bloomberg, which claim that Sony and an investment firm called Apollo Global Management, are considering making a ****** offer to acquire Paramount, though no such proposal has actually been submitted as of yet. Both add that Paramount is currently still in exclusive talks with another company Skydance Media, about a potential merger. The addition of Sony to the process would seemigly make Paramount less concerned about the cash behind any bid, with this being cited as a concern it had with a previous $26 billion bid from Apollo on its own, thanks to the gaming giant's "deep pockets". 9. It's starting to feel like ConcernedApe (aka Eric Barone) may in fact be a modern day Sisiphus, destined to work on Stardew Valley forever. Following on from the mega update of 1.6 a month ago, and 1.6.3 soon after that, the hardy perennial farming game has a new 1.6.4 mini update. The key addition this time is more new layouts that will appear after you reach the bottom of the mines, and more layouts for the volcano mines too. If you've not played Stardew Valley you might wonder why there are deep mines and volcanos, and to you I say "Pah! You should play Stardew Valley." 1.6.4 also has a lot of bug fixes (including fixing disappearing pets, new pets being a key feature of 1.6) and some balance changes, as well as a host of fixes for modders and modded players. ConcernedApe said early on that 1.6 would be an update for modders, so it's nice to see that being supported. You can read the full patch notes here. Read more View the full article
  10. Prison Architect 2’s release date has been delayed for a second time, publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Double Eleven have announced. Originally scheduled to be released for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Steam on March 26, before slipping to May 7, the 3D successor to 2015’s prison management simulator will now arrive on September 3. The companies said the additional four months will be used to reduce crashes, optimise performance and polish existing features. Read More... View the full article
  11. Neverlooted Dungeon is an rpg game in which you can ****** a crossbow from a first person perspective. This, I imagine, was the pitch it used when trying to blag its past way the thermodynamically powered golem wearing a Daikatana t-shirt that guards the gates of Steam’s currently-running FPS fest. Whatever the excuse, this silver tongued rascal succeeded, and is now nestled comfortably between umpteen boomer shooter revivals, trying to squeeze Ultima factoids into the conversation. 12. The Fallout TV show was confirmed to be a new, canon story in the post-apocalyptic universe long before it even released. After it went live on April 10, fans were worried it might have erased one crucial faction—but luckily it didn’t. The faction we learn most about in the Fallout show is the Brotherhood of Steel, since it’s where one of the main characters, Maximus, is from. At one point in the story, we’re also introduced to the New California Republic, which seems like it’s almost extinct. In the latest interview with IGN, though, Bethesda’s CEO Todd Howard explained the fate of the faction. Beware, as more spoilers follow. View the full article
  13. How often have we geared up for a game release, only to find there’s a delay in the weeks or months leading up to it? It’s become a common occurrence in gaming, and while it’s disappointing, most gamers appreciate it’s better to have a polished, delayed game than a bugged one that launches on time. The Cyberpunk 2077 debacle taught us exactly that. But for others, the idea of developers moving the goalposts is enough to fuel a vitriol that spreads to social media and can even result in distrust of the development studio. View the full article

  16. Baldur’s Gate 3 has been a smash hit, winning the acclaim of both critics and consumers alike. The RPG took home numerous Game of the Year awards in 2023, raising the bar for future games in its genre. Furthermore, the tremendous success of BG3 is a rebuke to publishers who eschew single-player experiences in favor of games laden with predatory microtransactions. Critics have praised the game on nearly every front: gameplay mechanics, art design, and storylines. Also celebrated are BG3's well-crafted character classes, each with their strengths and weaknesses, that work together like a puzzle. View the full article

  21. Good news, people who aren't fans of creepy-crawlies. Helldivers 2's latest Major Order tasked players with casually wiping out two billion Terminids, and in less than 24 hours, intergalctic pest control has prevailed. It's done so in such concerningly rapid fashion, in fact, that some people have actually felt the need to do maths. Equipped with armour sets that definitely should have the intended passives now and crews that can pack boxes faster than anyone ever has before, the forces of Super Earth have seemigly taken bug ******** to new levels. Almost bizzarely high levels. As Arrowhead's now confirmed via a tweet, which is a slightly more subdued follow-up to several posts and reddit threads which can't quite seem to agree on whether this took around 12 hours or something closer to 14, the bugs are now ticked off as being *****. So, that's two billion bugs "***** in less than a day", since the Major Order only arrived yesterday afternoon, in what Arrowhead's calling an "inspiring display of pre-emptive self-defence". 23. The Fallout TV show is a bit good. Indeed, here at PC Gamer we think it is the best Fallout has been since the highs of New Vegas. So, you know, go watch it! But while it's true that the TV show is good, it's fair to say it's only showing a very narrow slice of what the Fallout universe has to offer. Which got me thinking… if the Fallout games were movies, what would they be like and, most importantly, which would be best?.. Read more.View the full article
  24. Dataminers are doing their thing with World of Warcraft expansion The War Within now that developer Blizzard has made an alpha build available for early testing, and already there are some interesting discoveries. Warning! Potential spoilers for World of Warcraft The War Within follow. As Wowhead reports, The War Within appears to contain a new playable race called the Harronir. The Harronir, so far unannounced, have so many customisation options that Wowhead speculates they will become playable at some point in the future, if not at the launch of The War Within, based on past experience with existing playable races the Nighborne and Vulpera. In looking through the War Within customization data, we expected to see the Earthen Allied Race show up with many new customization descriptions. Seeing so many for the Harronir took us by surprise!#warcraft #WarWithin [Hidden Content] [Hidden Content] — Wowhead (@Wowhead) April 18, 2024 So, what are the Harronir, exactly? Without further information from Blizzard, we can only speculate. Some players believe they look like the missing link between Dark Trolls and Night Elves, given they have small tusks. If this is true, the Harronir could be another Neutral Allied Race, a sort of subterranean elf-like race that have gone undiscovered thus far. One new playable race Blizzard has announced is coming to the long-running MMO with The War Within is the Earthen, the first Neutral Allied Race available to both Alliance and Horde players. 25. Capcom has detailed an upcoming patch for Dragon’s Dogmas 2 that makes a number of changes and fixes, but there’s no mention of the performance mode so many players are waiting for. Following the release of the sprawling action role–playing game in March, players experienced inconsistent framerate performance, particularly on PC. Whereas games like Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth gives players a Performance or Graphics mode option — prioritizing either a consistent framerate or increased graphical output — Dragon's Dogma 2 only has one visual mode across all consoles. Check out IGN’s Dragon's Dogma 2 Performance Review - PS5 vs Xbox Series X/S vs PC, for more. Now, Capcom has announced an upcoming Dragon’s Dogma 2 patch, due out later in April, and confirmed what it sets out to do, but players shouldn’t expect a performance mode. What is included is a nerf to the pesky dragonsplague illness, which turns pawns murderous but only exhibits a few subtle symptoms up to that point (modders have already made things really obvious for PC players by sticking a big number on the follower's forehead). Elsewhere, there are adjustments to pawns’ behavior and dialogue, including a tweak to make it less likely for pawns to fall of cliffs. There’s also a note about reducing the frequency of some pawn dialogue, which should make them a little less annoying to be around. To all Dragon's Dogma 2 players We have an update planned this month with the following adjustments and fixes. We will release them on each platform as soon as they are ready. Thank you for your patience and support! [Hidden Content] — Dragon's Dogma (@DragonsDogma) April 19, 2024 Dragon's Dogma 2 arrived more than a decade after its predecessor on March 22, 2024 and proved a monster hit for publisher Capcom despite being seeped in controversy, selling 2.5 million units in 11 days amid microtransaction and the performance complaints. In our 8/10 review, IGN said: "More of a redo than a sequel, Dragon's Dogma 2 is a strange and wonderful action-RPG that bolsters the original’s strengths without addressing its weaknesses."
