Back in the Forsaken days, Edge Transit was a Destiny 2 meme—a decidedly mid grenade launcher that just would not stop dropping from engrams. Today, Bungie is having the last laugh, because Into the Light's reissued Edge Transit is an absolute monster. Right now, it's basically tied with Cataphract GL3 as the best heavy grenade launcher in the game. But two things give it the slight edge. First, when The Final Shape launches next month, all Brave Arsenal weapons will become enhanceable—making them even better than they are now. Second, unlike Cataphract, you don't have to play Trials of Osiris to get it... Read more.View the full article
XDefiant is out and is pretty ***** fun! It feels a lot like some classic, arcadey shooters from my childhood. Running fast in Modern Warfare 2 and the like - the exact thing every old man has been begging for over the last decade. But with all good things come the bad, and a wave of cheaters have set their sights on Ubisoft's latest release. Now it's important to note that, like every game that suffers from cheaters, this isn't impacting every match, or even the majority of matches. This in its current form appears to be a niche, but nonetheless frustrating, issue. If you want a prime example of what it looks like you can see it in action on the XDefiant subreddit. It's a classic spread of wall hacks and aimbots working in tandem, the Hall and Oates of FPS cheats. So what can players do? Nothing! Nothing can be done. XDefiant uses BattleEye anti-cheat, which is a common service you'll find in Rainbow Six: Siege, Escape from Tarkov, etc. If you're even remotely familar with either of those games you'll know that cheating is very much an issue in both. Tarkov is infamous for its cheating problem, and the rolling ban announcements in Siege are a constant reminder of how many losers use this illicit software. Read more View the full article

Sometimes you gotta know when to fold, and trying to get new hotness RPG Wuthering Waves to play nice with the Steam Deck has got me creasing like an origami crane. While its Epic Games Store release can be worked around, and Proton GE will get the game’s own launcher running, no combination of software, compatibility tools, or installation folder deep-diving seems capable of actually booting the game proper. As such, I’m accepting defeat. Obviously with apologies to any studious Steam Deck Academy readers. Read more View the full article
A datamine of the new Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door remake contains information that suggests a port for Switch 2 is coming. There’s still no official word about the follow-up to the Nintendo Switch, but this could mean it’s very close. A screenshot of the datamine was posted to Reddit on May 23. The image shows code that suggests Paper Mario: Thousand-Year Door can support 4K resolution. Anyone who owns a Nintendo Switch knows that the console can’t handle anything remotely close to 4K resolution. So what’s the purpose of the support? There are a few theories. View the full article

Ok. So, as part of a corporate strategy meeting, Sony's decided to give us all a look at its "Creative Entertainment Vision" - basically what it thinks the world might look like from its perspective in ten years time. What's in the forecast for 2034, you ask? Well, some floaty gadgets and an open-world game that's just alright. That's not to say the company isn't aiming high though, having even gone as far as creating renders for a game that's set to come out in 2035 - that's in this video's timeline, I stress, we don't know if this title about a woman just kinda flying through space will actually be a thing in the real world (I'd guess not). Yup, if you check out the two minute-ish long glimpse that shows Sony's vision - you'll see some interesting things. There's some people standing around a futuristic table putting personal touches on that game I mentioned above - it's dubbed Ignition, but isn't the 90s racing game - by using their fingers to mainputate stuff hanging in the air. The latest World of Warcraft game mode, Mists of Pandaria Remix, is keeping plenty of players busy leveling chars in preparation for The War Within. But while some players are having the time of their lives, others agree Mists of Pandaria Remix highlights a glaring issue with WoW. A player pointed out in a post on WoW’s subreddit on May 22 that the game mode “showcases the flaws with the current leveling system pretty well.” Essentially, your power level in WoW is dependent on your gear, and all that gear becomes irrelevant as soon as you level up. This means you don’t really want to level up, because it means you get weaker. This problem was solved in retail WoW with heirlooms, and, to an extent, with the cape in MoP Remix. One of the most high-profile Mortal Kombat 1 modders on YouTube has pulled their content offline after alleging Warner Bros. “threatened to ********” his channel. Toasted tweeted to allege Warner Bros. had issued an intellectual property infringement notification that states the Mortal Kombat mods showcased in his videos “infringe” on the company’s IP rights. Toasted claimed that Warner Bros., which owns the Mortal Kombat IP as well as its developer, NetherRealm, requested he delete all Mortal Kombat 1 videos from his channel “or else they will issue copyright strikes and essentially delete my channel in its entirety." These are all the videos I've had to private, I'm sorry to everyone who enjoyed them but Warner Bros isn't really giving me a choice [Hidden Content] — Toasted (@ToastedShoes) May 23, 2024 IGN has verified the notification, sent by AI-powered brand protection company Tracer. It includes the takedown request, which also extends to Toasted’s Patreon, where the mods in question were made available to download to subscribers. IGN has confirmed Toasted has also pulled the Mortal Kombat 1 mods down from his Patreon. IGN has asked Warner Bros. for comment. I voiced Rick, Morty, and Meeseeks in another @ToastedShoes mod :) [Hidden Content] — Sean Kelly (@RealMortysays) December 26, 2023 Toasted’s Mortal Kombat 1 mod videos have showcased NetherRealm’s fighting game with various characters from the likes of Disney, Marvel, Pixar, Warner Bros., and Dreamworks properties. In January 2024, IGN reported on how Toasted had replaced the likes of Sub-Zero, Scorpion, and Liu Kang with Woody from Toy Story, Mr. Incredible from The Incredibles, and even Carl Fredricksen from Up for various Mortal Kombat 1 mod videos. Other mod videos showed Rick & Morty and Family Guy in gory Mortal Kombat 1 battles. I voiced Morty, Rick, and Meeseeks in a ToastedShoes mod :) [Hidden Content] — Sean Kelly (@RealMortysays) December 25, 2023 Toasted said clips of his mods have more than one billion views across all platforms, and highlighted that NetherRealm development chief Ed Boon has shared clips of mods himself on social media. “For over six months Warner Bros. have had zero issues with people modding the game and @noobde himself has shared countless mod videos and clips praising them,” Toasted said. “The clips of my mods have over one billion views across all platforms that have allowed me to bring attention to the game as well as to continue supporting the team of developers I work with. My team of modders work with me on both a part time and full time basis and the revenue from these videos pays their wages.” Yeah it’s pretty whack. There’s clips of the mods with 50+ million views on the internet. If anything it would make people want to play the game more would it not? I’ve had many people reply saying they are getting the game PURELY for the mods [Hidden Content] — Toasted (@ToastedShoes) May 23, 2024 Toasted also claimed he is unable to reply to the email sent by Warner Bros., which means he has no way of asking follow-up questions. “I also seem to be the only content creator that I know of that has been sent a cease and desist from Warner Bros.,” he added. Toasted said the cease and desist has “forced” him to remove all the Mortal Kombat 1 mod videos from his channel. “This isn't what I wanted to do but I feel I have no other option,” he said. Warner Bros.’ cease and desist comes just a few days before the company’s franchise-combining brawler MultiVersus launches across PC and consoles. MultiVersus, a free-to-play take on Nintendo’s Smash Bros. series, sees characters from across Warner Bros. properties, including Rick & Morty, battle in a distinctly more family friendly setting than NetherRealm’s Mortal Kombat. This isn’t the first time Toasted has found himself in hot water over his mod videos. In January 2024, Toasted claimed “Nintendo has come for me” after a takedown of a tweet teasing a Palworld mod with a clip showing Pokémon’s Ash Ketchum in place of the player character, as well as famous Pokémon such as Pikachu replacing Palworld’s Pals. The question now for Toasted is how to respond to the cease and desist beyond taking down the mods and videos. In a statement provided to IGN, Toasted insisted he will contest the decision. "We are currently listening to and abiding by Warners Bros request to remove the videos,” Toasted said. “However we are going to contest their decision. Right now we are waiting for actual communication from Warner Bros so we can resolve the matter.” Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. Fortnite will remove four major named locations with the release of Chapter 5 Season 3. The Fortnite island is constantly changing, so even if fans find a favorite landing spot, they can't get too comfortable, as it could be removed at any given time. While the map is entirely renewed when a new chapter starts, it's common for season-themed locations to be replaced with the release of a new season. On top of this, the several updates that are done throughout a season also tend to add landmarks and other interesting areas, and sometimes even remove them, especially when there's a connection with the game's lore. Wuthering Waves is finally out, and for a lot of players who've been keen on the open world action game are diving in and having a blast. However, that's not to say it's been a smooth launch by any means, with numerous reports of bugs, graphical problems, and performance flubs. Lets start with those performance problems! Many players, taking the leap over from Genshin Impact or other gachas, have been hit by a wall of issues. The game has also been critiqued for poor performance and texture qualities by various players, even those with PCs that should be able to run a mobile action RPG with relative ease. In case you missed it, Arrowhead's Johan Pilestedt stepped aside as CEO of the studio yesterday, in order to focus more heavily on helping to develop Helldivers 2 from a creative perspective. He looks to be wasting no time in starting to tackle the game's percieved issues either, having already outlined some thoughts and plans to folks on Twitter. Now serving solely as a chief creative officer and chairman at Arrowhead, having forked over a lot of the his business resposiblities to new CEO Shams Jorjani, it's not too surprising to see Pilestedt immediately engaging with the game's community in a pretty open manner. Even if odds are it'll probably take a little while for the changes some players are hoping for to actually start arriving in game. In responses to a bunch of players commenting on his tweet about the role switch, Pilestedt's said a whole bunch about the current state of Helldivers 2 and what steps he and the studio'll be taking to try and remedy them.
