Obsidian Entertainment seems to have accidentally revealed that the release date for its fantasy RPG Avowed is November 12, 2024. The launch plans were revealed thanks to a comment from Game Director Carrie Patel and the rest of the team that appeared in a now-altered post on the Obsidian website. There’s no sign of the date now, but we managed to capture a screenshot before it was removed. “The last few months at Obsidian Entertainment have been fast-paced and exciting,” the statement said. “Since we saw you at the Xbox Developer Direct this past January, we’ve been busy with Avowed getting it ready for release on November 12, 2024. Today, we’re thrilled to have revealed our first-ever story trailer at Xbox Games Showcase 2024, and to talk with you more about what we’ve shared.” The current version of the page is almost exactly the same besides the removal of those November release plans. It’s strange to see the November date show up right after today’s Xbox Games Showcase, which wrapped up just hours ago. Avowed appeared during the event with a trailer that showed a good chunk of the game, but it did so while only promising to launch sometime before the year was over. Its removal suggests Obsidian still wasn’t ready to reveal its plans to the rest of the world. Xbox has yet to comment on if the date is accurate or why it appeared on the Obsidian website. In other words, you may want to refrain from marking your calendars just yet. For everything else that was announced at the Xbox Games Showcase, you can click here. Of all of the companions in Baldurs Gate 3, Halsin is a bit of a controversial one. Though the loveable druid is a powerful ally to have in certain battles, his story is one that has left some players underwhelmed. As hes not the only druid players can recruit, theres even the argument that other NPCs, like Alfira, may have been better companions to have on a journey. Any of these factors could be contributions to the lack of Halsin cosplays out there. View the full article

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has addressed the recent closure of a number of studios at Microsoft's gaming business, insisting he has to make "hard decisions" to run a sustainable business. Speaking to IGN's Ryan McCaffrey at IGN Live, Spencer briefly commented on the shock decision to shut Redfall developer Arkane Austin and Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks as part of sweeping layoffs affecting some 1,900 staff. "The closure of any team is hard obviously on the individuals there, hard on the team," Spencer said. "I haven't been talking publicly about this, because right now is the time for us to focus on the team and the individuals. It's obviously a decision that's very hard on them, and I want to make sure through severance and other things that we're doing the right thing for the individuals on the team. It's not about my PR, it's not about Xbox PR. It's about those teams. "In the end, I've said over and over, I have to run a sustainable business inside the company and grow, and that means sometimes I have to make hard decisions that frankly are not decisions I love, but decisions that somebody needs to go make. "We will continue to go forward. We will continue to invest in what we're trying to go do in Xbox and build the best business we can, which ensures we can continue to do shows like the one we just did." "Sometimes I have to make hard decisions that frankly are not decisions I love. Microsoft announced to staff in May that it would be closing Redfall maker Arkane Austin, Hi-Fi Rush and The Evil Within developer Tango Gameworks, and Alpha Dog Games, while Roundhouse Studios would be absorbed by ZeniMax Online Studios. The move led to shock and anger throughout the industry, especially considering one of Xbox's most successful recent exclusives, Hi-Fi Rush, was developed by Tango, a studio that was absorbed by Microsoft via its acquisition of parent company Zenimax in 2021. It's the first time Spencer has commented on the studio closures since they were announced, and follows similar comments from other Xbox executives who were asked about the decision. A few days after the layoffs, Xbox President Sarah Bond was asked about them at a Bloomberg conference, where she insisted the Xbox business ******** healthy for the long-term during what she called “this moment of transition.” Microsoft announced it would be laying off 1,900 staff from its video game workforce back in January. It was only one of a number of devastating cuts that the industry has been hit with over the past year, with other companies including Sony, Riot, and Epic laying off hundreds of staff. Xbox head Phil Spencer stopped by IGN Live for a chat following today's Xbox Showcase, talking about some of the biggest reveals and announcements. One of those was not only the reveal of *****: The Dark Ages, but the announcement that it would be coming to PlayStation 5 as well. Asked about the decision by IGN's Ryan McCaffrey, Spencer attributed the decision, at least partially, to id Software Studio Director Marty Stratton. "***** is definitely one of those franchises that has a history of so many platforms," Spencer explained. "It’s a franchise that I think everyone deserves to play. When I was in a meeting with Marty a couple years ago, I asked Marty what he wanted to do, and he said he wanted to sell it on all platforms. Simple as that." "It’s a franchise that I think everyone deserves to play. After rampant rumors and anticipation, *****: The Dark Ages was officially unveiled at today's Xbox Showcase, and it was also confirmed that it would be headed to PlayStation 5 as well as Xbox Series X/S and PC. At the time, Xbox explained the move by saying in an Xbox Wire post that, "to ensure long-term success for both Xbox and the industry as a whole, we must continue to evolve." As for what else we know about *****: The Dark Ages, it's a prequel that includes dark fantasy with a medieval-inspired theme. Xbox said today following the showcase that it "puts players behind the visor of the mighty Slayer as they battle demonic hordes in grounded, hard-hitting combat inside an epic, cinematic tale of gods, kings and monsters." *****: The Dark Ages is set to release sometime in 2025.
