  1. Arc Raiders publisher Nexon has defended the game's use of generative AI, suggesting players should "assume that every game company is now using AI." Arc Raiders, like developer Embark's 2023 shooter, The Finals, declares it uses AI in development, stating on its Steam store page: "During the development process, we may use procedural- and AI-based tools to assist with content creation. In all such cases, the final product reflects the creativity and expression of our own development team." Embark expanded on this with PCGamesN recently, saying Arc Raiders "in no way uses generative AI whatsoever" and stressed that it instead used "something called machine learning, or reinforcement learning, and that's to do with the locomotion for our larger drones with multiple legs, but there's no generative content whatsoever." However, in the same interview, design director Virgil Watkins added that with regards to its controversial text-to-speech system, it "hire[d] and contract[ed] voice actors for it — it's part of their contract that we use [AI] for this purpose, and that allows us to do things like our ping system, where it's capable of saying every single item name, every single location name, and compass directions. That's how we can get that without needing to have someone come in every time we create a new item for the game." Now, in a fresh interview with Game*Spark (as translated by Automaton), Junghun Lee, CEO of Arc Raiders' publisher Nexon, not only championed AI for improving "efficiency in both game production and live service operations," but also stated: "I think it's important to assume that every game company is now using AI." “First of all, I think it’s important to assume that every game company is now using AI," Lee said. "But if everyone is working with the same or similar technologies, the real question becomes: how do you survive? I believe it’s important to choose a strategy that increases your competitiveness." It certainly feels as though Lee's comments ring true. EA CEO Andrew Wilson has said AI is "the very core of our business," and Square Enix recently implemented mass layoffs and reorganized, saying it needed to be "aggressive in applying AI." Dead Space creator Glen Schofield also recently detailed his plans to “fix” the industry in part via the use of generative AI in game development, and former God of War dev Meghan Morgan Juinio said: "... if we don’t embrace [AI], I think we’re selling ourselves short.” Conversely, Nintendo has bucked the trend, with Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto previously stressing that the company would rather go in a “different direction” than the rest of the video game industry when it comes to AI. That said, its use of AI clearly hasn't held Arc Raiders back. It's now sold over 4 million copies worldwide less than two weeks since its release date, cementing its commercial success. Nexon also revealed that the extraction shooter had reached a huge concurrent count of 700,000 players across all platforms. "ARC Raiders raises the bar for extraction shooters pretty much across the board, with an incredibly gripping progression grind, tense fights against NPCs and other players that make for memorable matches, and loot that feels completely worth all the work and stress it takes to obtain it," we wrote in IGN's Arc Raiders review, which returned an 'Amazing' 9/10. "The fact that it manages to also run well and look amazing all the while is just downright impressive, even if a few bugs here and there lead to the rare rage quit. For years I’d been wondering when someone would take the awesome promise of this genre to the next level, and ARC Raiders is without question what I’ve been waiting for." 2. It could not be a better time to be a fan of shooters. Battlefield 6 has managed to recapture the essence of what made the iconic series so good in the first place, while the lure of one more Spaceport run in Arc Raiders has kept me up well beyond my usual bedtime; real degen hours. For the first time in a long time, Call of Duty's status as the go-to shooter for most may have begun to diminish, but the FPS juggernaut won't go down that easily. CoD HQ has quietly been putting together a brand new, PvE game mode called Endgame that draws on elements from its fan-favorite Zombies mode and the canned DMZ. There's one catch though: you'll have to clear the first 11 ****** Ops 7 co-op campaign missions to access it, or have a pal that's done the legwork invite you into their lobby. 6. It takes a lot for even the best horror games to really spook me. Put it down to a very early introduction to Resident Evil as a precocious preschooler, or my annual Halloween pilgrimage through Silent Hill 2. Either way, I've become so desensitized to the tricks of the horror game trade that even the most elaborate jumpscare has become rote. Instead, it's often games that aren't specifically horror that are the most likely to get me spooked, especially ones driven by emergent gameplay. That's where Pacific Drive comes in. 8. If I wanted to party anywhere in the Marvel universe, I'd be reserving my beanbags and buckets of lentil chips for Dr Strange's Sanctum Sanctorum. It's a big posh wizard's mansion, full of shelves of worrisome books and glass cabinets housing all manner of mystical nonsense that would make for an easy conversation starter, and probably some mildly apocalyptic drunken high jinks. I mention this because players of Marvel Rivals appear to agree with me. According to publishers Nexon, a lot of you have been hosting impromptu mixers in the Sanctum Sanctorum when you really ought to be murdering each other dead. They don't call it a "Doom Match" because it's about speed-dating with your mortal adversaries, lads. Still, Nexon are nothing if not bendable in the face of customer whim. The meet-ups in Sanctum Sanctorum have inspired them to release a full-blown non-combat map set in New York's Time Square, where 100 players can rub shoulders without yoinking each other's arms off. Incidentally, the Captains promo has been present in Ultimate Team in the past, but EA Sports has avoided it during the last few years. Obtaining one, however, will depend on your luck. To reduce that, you can complete various SBCs that will be live during the promo. 21. Enshrouded’s latest aptly named update, Wake of the Water, introduced an entirely new mechanic: water. There are tons of new areas to explore and treasures to find all underwater, but before you can go about diving great depths, you first need Rice. Why? Well… it’s a long story. Rice is one of the newest crafting ingredients in Enshrouded, right up there with Shiitake Mushrooms and Paper Reeds. Unlike the latter, though, you can only find Raw Rice in the Veilwater Basin, Enshrouded’s newest biome. It took me quite a while to find this pesky grain, but the location where I first discovered it has quite a bit for you to harvest. Table of contentsRice location in EnshroudedHow to get Cooked Rice in EnshroudedCooked Rice recipes in EnshroudedHow to grow rice in EnshroudedRice location in Enshrouded Head to the west side of town. Screenshot by Destructoid You'll find both Raw Rice and Rice Seedlings in the field. Screenshot by Destructoid As of writing, there’s only one place I know where rice spawns in Enshrouded: a small farming village to the east of Lake Heartblood called Orville. If you travel to Orville, you’ll find a ton of various crops on the west side of village at the location marked on the map below. The lower farming beds house Raw Rice and Rice Seedlings, which you can then take back to your own base and grow on your own. How to get Cooked Rice in Enshrouded If you’re like me, you probably browsed through all of the new recipes available at each of the townspeople’s workshops after the Wake of the Water update hit live servers. One of the most enticing of these new recipes is Sushi—and no, I’m not just jumping on the bandwagon. It’s one of the only few recipes in the game that allow you to lengthen the amount of time you can spend underwater, and it requires Cooked Rice. No water? No problem. Screenshot by Destructoid When you pick up Rice for the first time, you’ll automatically unlock the Cooked Rice recipe at a Cooking Station. This recipe takes five minutes to complete and requires the following ingredients: 4 Raw Rice1 Salt Consuming Cooked Rice on its own grants you a 21-percent increase to your melee damage for 50 minutes. But of course, just like in real life, it’s always better to combine your ingredients instead of eating them individually. If you take your Cooked Rice to the farmer, Emily Fray, you'll find a handful of recipes that offer much better effects than just eating the ingredient by itself. Cooked Rice recipes in Enshrouded There are a handful of recipes worth cooking using Cooked Rice, all of which can be done with the help of the farmer. Refer to the table below for each of the recipes and their effects: RecipeRequired IngredientsEffect Plantain Curry5 Cooked Rice 5 Plantain 5 Coconut Milk 2 Spice+21 Health Regeneration +9 Stamina Regeneration (55 minutes) Fried Rice5 Cooked Rice 5 Eggs 3 Bell Pepper 3 Corncob 2 Raw Taro+10 Stamina +21% melee damage (55 minutes) Taro Root Curry5 Raw Taro 5 Cooked Rice 3 Bell Pepper 2 Coconut Milk 2 Spice+60 Mana +21% Ranged Damage +21% Dagger Damage Sushi5 Algae 5 Cooked Rice 5 Silverback+30 Health +40 Maximum OxygenHow to grow rice in Enshrouded Okay, so clearly you're going to need a lot of rice if you want to become Embervale's next big sushi chef. The best way to get as much rice as humanly possible is to grow your own. That way, you won't have to keep running back to Orville anytime you run out. Rice isn't like other crops, though; you can't just stick it in the ground and call it a day like with tomato plants or strawberry seeds. Rice Seedlings need covered ground—ground that's topped off with a nice layer of water—to grow. The simplest way to do this is to carve out a flat trough in the ground using the "Remove" option of the terrain tool in the Construction Hammer. Then lay down your soil. Use a Water Dispenser, which can be crafted at a Workbench, to then fill the cut-out section of earth with water. This will create a mini-pond-like effect, keeping your crops covered with water. Then plant the Rice Seedlings into the ground. Three of the seedlings aren't happy, as indicated by their size and brown coloration. Screenshot by Destructoid If you did it correctly and your Rice Seedlings are happy, they'll turn from brown to green within a couple of seconds after being planted. Give them some time and when you come back, you'll be able to harvest Raw Rice from your very own rice farm. If you want to speed up the process, be sure to use Fertile Veilwater Basin Dirt instead of any other type of soil. The post How to get Cooked Rice in Enshrouded appeared first on Destructoid.
