It started an entire genre of survival sandbox games, has kept generation after generation hooked with its simple yet addictive gameplay, and is one of the best games to play with friends. Due to its popularity, the community has worked on the game almost as much as the developers, meaning that there is always something to do, no matter how old the title has become. 6. General manager over the Warcraft franchise at Blizzard John Hight has announced he's leaving the company after almost 13 years. Earlier this week, Hight shared on his personal Twitter that he is leaving Blizzard to "start a new quest." While Hight was most recently overseeing the broader Warcraft series at Blizzard for the past decade and a bit, he's been in the gaming industry for many years now, starting out at The 3DO Company, later moving on to other studios like EA, Atari, and Sony. As noted by PC Gamer, he worked on **** of War 3 and helped to launch the PlayStation Network. On Twitter, Hight wrote of his decision to leave Blizzard, saying "After 12 incredible years at Blizzard, I’ve decided to step away & start a new quest. It was a tough decision, but I feel like now is as good a time as any: Warcraft is in an amazing position as the universe turns 30. I’ve been so honored to serve all of the heroes of Azeroth." He continued in further tweets, "You are the most passionate, dedicated, and creative community in gaming. You are why I’ve poured my heart and soul into creating the best games possible. 8. Yacht Club Games held a special 10th anniversary stream for Shovel Knight this week, revealing a brand new edition of the modern classic. Sometimes you see something like "Shovel Knight is 10 years old" and it makes you instantly turn to dust, but even if that is the case, you just have to ignore it and move on. Or, well, don't completely ignore it, as during the NES throwback game's 10th anniversary livestream, Yacht Club Games revealed Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope DX, a "definitive edition" version "of the adventure that started it all." This new version of the game has a whole bunch of new features, with the biggest being the addition of online multiplayer. "For the first time, use the power of Rewind to perfect your platforming skills or use Save States to pause and plan your next moves," Yacht Club explains. "With over 300 classic gameplay-twisting cheats, customise your experience to make it as challenging or as weird as you like. All these cheats can now be enabled simultaneously, offering endless ways to remix your adventure. Simply put, this is the definitive edition of Shovel of Hope. It's also our way of preserving the game's historical functionality, ensuring these elements remain available for future generations of players. And with the new multiplayer features and other enhancements, we hope it includes everything on your wish list." Read more View the full article

Salvation's Edge is the culmination of the entirety of the D2 lore up to this point, and it's only appropriate that it rewards lucky Guardians with such an interesting *******. 11. As rumours about a Final Fantasy 9 remake continue to swirl, Final Fantasy 14's Naoki "Yoshi-P" Yoshida says one thing's for sure: he's not making it. Back in March, some Final Fantasy 9 themed items were revealed to be coming to Final Fantasy 14 alongside the MMO's latest expansion, Dawntrail. He wouldn't say why there will be Final Fantasy 9 items, out of all the games, only that the reason behind them is a secret. With it being Not-E3 season and all, there's of course been more discussions about those Final Fantasy 9 remake rumours, but Square Enix hasn't announced anything just yet. However, during a recent Final Fantasy 14 Letter from the Producer, Yoshi-P outright denied that he's involved in the project, and also said he knows nothing about it. Important to note that this isn't him saying there is one - he's just saying he's not making one. To be clear, the reason he's addressing the rumour at all is because of fan comments saying that they wouldn't want him to handle it because he might change the game's combat into real-time action as opposed to turn based. However, even if he isn't working on it, he did say "If we were remaking FF9 people would complain we'd turn it into an action game! But I'd make it turn-based," so at least you don't have to worry if Yoshi-P suddenly does end up remaking it for whatever reason. Read more View the full article
  12. A Genshin Impact chart estimates how many free Primogems will be given in version 4.8. Primogems in Genshin Impact allow players to buy tickets, with which they can get characters and weapons. They can be used to unlock battle pass levels and regenerate Resin to obtain the associated rewards from certain activities, such as abyssal domains and weekly bosses. However, free-to-play players should avoid spending Primogems on battle pass levels and Resin, as these materials are as scarce as they are valuable. View the full article
  13. BioWare is known for its RPGs, though where titles like Mass Effect lean into the action, Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be more about the roleplay. After years of waiting to see actual gameplay, Dragon Age: The Veilguard (formerly known as Dreadwolf) finally got a full reveal, with a big gameplay trailer promising an exciting-looking adventure. While it didn't start as particularly action heavy, the Dragon Age series certainly has headed more in that direction over the years, with The Veilguard looking no different. But in an interview with RPG Site, The Veilguard director Corinne Busche did make it clear that the game will focus more on the RPG side of things, unlike its more action-laden counterpart Mass Effect. "I really view Mass Effect as an ARPG," Busche said. "Big action, minor RPG. We're almost the total inverse of that." Busche goes on to explain how, much like many games these days, The Veilguard does have a skill tree, described as "absolutely enormous and it is bespoke for your class… when it is unlocked, imagine almost a gigantic spider web-like visual. And if I'm a mage right at the very center is the core of the Mage kit." RPG Site took a second to briefly interrupt Busche in the explanation of the skill tree, comparing it to Final Fantasy X's Sphere Grid, which apparently is a partial influence on The Veilguard's skilltree, though more in organisation - apparently Final Fantasy 12's ability selection and passives are closer to what you can expect from the new Dragon Age game. 14. It was announced earlier this year that CD Projekt Red would be developing a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, prompting the idea that some characters could make a return. Cyberpunk 2077 has a great roster of characters. It is a good mixture of big names from Cyberpunk 2020, like Rogue or Johnny Silverhand, and fully original characters. Even early on, when Cyberpunk 2077 was still experiencing major issues, players were still able to enjoy the game thanks to its engaging story and cast of characters. View the full article
  15. Between V Rising, Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, Castlevania, and even The Sims and Skyrim, vampires are all over our videogames. With centuries of history, everyone has their own spin on the blood-sucking demigods, and Vampire Dynasty is coming for that crown. With a new demo at Steam Next Fest, this survival sandbox RPG is a mean rival to the likes of Valheim, and you've still got time to download the vertical slice and try it for yourself. 16. Star Wars Outlaws was heavily featured at the recent Ubisoft Forward event, and in the gameplay/overview trailers that followed, the title hinted at not only the journey of Kay Vess but how people could alter their fates within the game between both story and gameplay choices. This could potentially lead to new ideas and innovations within the Star Wars gaming franchise. View the full article
  17. The live-action adaptation of Until Dawn has started the casting process, with several up-and-comers joining the project. While it seems like a bit of an odd choice overall, back in January it was announced that Supermassive Games' Until Dawn was getting the ole live-action treatment, as is the trend in Hollywood at the moment. The odd part isn't that it's a video game adaptation, but that Until Dawn is a game that features lots of different endings and paths along the way to them, so how that'll work as a film is a bit unclear. Still, the film is pressing on, as Deadline reported earlier this week that the film has completed its first round of casting, bringing aboard four actors to the David F. Sandberg (Shazam!) directed project. The cast includes Ella Rubin (The Idea of You), Michael Cimino (Love, Victor), Ji-young Yoo (Sweet Home), and Odessa A’zion (Hellraiser 2022), all people you've maybe seen something in somewhere along the line, but haven't been propelled to stardom/ household names just yet. Head of PlayStation Productions Asad Qizilbash said in a statement, "At PlayStation Productions, we are always looking to find creative and authentic ways to adapt our beloved games that our fans will enjoy. Alongside Screen Gems, we've assembled a fantastic cast of new characters that builds upon our already stellar filmmaking team and their vision for the adaptation. We're excited to reveal more about the movie soon." Read more View the full article

  19. Sledgehammer Games confirmed that a nerf for Modern Warfare 3‘s new Kar98k is coming after a rocky and overpowered launch for the returning marksman rifle. Sledgehammer added the Kar98k on May 29 when Modern Warfare 3 Season 4 went live. The Kar98k was notoriously one of the strongest weapons back in Modern Warfare 2019 and the original iteration of Warzone, and players were irked to discover the **** was back with a vengeance in MW3 Season 4. The Kar98k was somehow even stronger this time and has terrorized Call of Duty players for weeks as a result. Thankfully, Sledgehammer has finally announced that changes are on the way. 24. I have been playing Genshin Impact since the games release back in 2020 and, despite my deep love for it, the action RPG by HoYoverse is not one I can currently recommend friends to start playing at this point in time. The title was released nearly four years ago and, since then, has expanded drastically. Starting off with the regions of Mondstadt and Liyue, the RPG started growing with the introduction of the icy reaches of Dragonspire, followed by Inazuma, Sumeru, and now Fontaine and, of course, other areas within pre-existing regions. 25. The first trailer for Lollipop Chainsaw RePop is here, and it's even brought a release date along with it. Lollipop Chainsaw RePop was first announced back in 2022, initially planned for release in 2023, though later caught a delay into 2024. Now, developer Dragami Games has offered up a first trailer for the remake of the cult classic game, which is described as "a definitive version of the game which leaves the story unchanged, with the focus on quality of life improvements and additional gameplay content." One such addition is the ability to switch between two modes - the Original mode, "which is based on the original release" or RePop mode, "which has less ********* and uses pop-art damage effects." The trailer notes that it's the RePop mode that was used for the in-game footage present in it, and it does work well with the tone of the game, unsurprisingly. As well as showing off the game in action, Dragami has also confirmed that the game will be releasing digitally September 25 across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. Dragami also outlined some new features and quality of life improvements in a separate post, like faster load times, a new Chained Hits Hunting system which can increase speed after landing consecutive hits, and auto-lock and auto-***** modes have been added to the Chainsaw Blaster. On top of that, there are new chainsaws, 30 costumes, and a time ******* mode. Read more View the full article
