  1. Last year's Lords of the Fallen reboot is getting a sequel, as its publisher CI Games signs a deal with Epic. As reported by Polish website Bankier, a recent filing from CI Games has confirmed that Lords of the Fallen will be getting a sequel in 2026. Quite notably, and potentially controversially, the filing was specifically about the fact that CI Games and Epic Games have signed a deal guaranteeing the latter exclusive rights to the Lords of the Fallen sequel on PC. There are a number of PC players who flat out refuse to buy games on the Epic Games Store, so we'll have to wait and see how that pans out for CI Games when the sequel eventually arrives. It should be noted that the rights to publish and distribute the game "worldwide on all other platforms, including the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S platforms for which the Game is currently in development, will remain with the Company." This obviously confirms that the game will be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S too, which isn't all that surprising given the reboot also released on the same platforms. 2. Alone in the Dark developer Pieces Interactive has been shut down by the now infamous Embracer Group after the game ******* to meet expectations. A statement on the developer's website lists a 2007 to 2024 lifespan for Pieces Interactive alongside the message "thanks for playing with us." It also offers a short history of the studio before a dedicated paragraph comments on its acquisition by Embracer Group, which in the last year has also shut down developers Free ******** Design, Onoma, and Volition Games amid lay-offs affecting more than 1,000 employees. "In 2017, Pieces Interactive were acquired by Embracer Group after working with the expansion for Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Ragnarök and third expansion for Titan Quest, Titan Quest: Atlantis," the post said. "Our last release was the reimagining of Alone in the Dark." The survival horror game, which launched in March 2024 to middling reviews, endured a "softer than expected performance" and "performed below management expectations" according to a statement from Embracer made after it reportedly made a round of layoffs at Pieces Interactive. Pieces Interactive joins an increasing list of video game studio closures and layoffs that have plagued the industry for the past two years. Embracer has caused many of these, having cut thousands of staff since the collapse of a $2 billion deal in 2023. It also sold the likes of Borderlands developer Gearbox Software and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake studio Saber Interactive ahead of announcing a split into three separate companies. 3. Remarkably, The Elder Scrolls 6 teaser trailer is six years old, an anniversary that made even Bethesda development chief Todd Howard pause for thought. Bethesda teased The Elder Scrolls 6 at E3 2018 with a brief announcement video, below, that gave little away about the studio’s plans. Six years later and fans are still in the dark about what to expect from the hotly anticipated sequel, which won’t release until 2028 at the earliest. Howard hasn't given much away since, and made typically vague comments in an interview with YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, but did reflect on the huge gap between The Elder Scrolls 6’s teaser and release. “Now, it's the sixth anniversary of us releasing the teaser for Elder Scroll 6 — might be today — so that did make me pause and say, ‘oh wow that has been a while.’ And now that we're working on Elder Scroll 6 and we get to see it here in the studio, you know you do miss it. “We appreciate all of those thoughts, and are with the fans on that. We’re working hard on it. And one day we’ll have it for everybody.” That did make me pause and say, ‘oh wow that has been a while.’ If The Elder Scrolls 6 does launch in 2028, presumably on the next-generation of consoles as well as PC, it’ll do so an incredible 17 years after The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Bethesda has released various games in the interim, most recently sci-fi RPG Starfield. But The Elder Scrolls 6 is Bethesda's next mainline single-player sequel, set to come out before Fallout 5, and of course fans are excited. Elsewhere in the interview, Howard talked again about wanting to give The Elder Scrolls 6 long-term support: “Seeing what Skyrim has done or other games, for Elder Scrolls 6… yeah, I’ll just stop there,” Howard teased, before adding: “We know people are going to play it for a long time. So a game like that, it’s not just what it means for content. It goes further than that in the type of game, what it means for your character, what it means for other things to say, ‘hey can this be something that you come back to?’ We see that with Skyrim and what people do in the game today. Even though it’s popular, what are people doing when they come back to the game after putting it down for a few years?” Howard also said the tech used for Starfield was the “starting point” for The Elder Scrolls 6, “and then obviously we try to do another jump up in technology, with looking at what's coming in the future, how do we do that, and always be moving the ball forward.” But when pressed on this tech, Howard wouldn’t budge, saying only: “It’s secret for now!” Bethesda does sound committed to its custom game engine rather than switching to, say, Unreal Engine, however. Howard said this is “absolutely the best way to go” because of the type of games Bethesda typically makes and its support of the modding community. Howard was also asked if the kind of procedural generation seen in the likes of Starfield, which leaned heavily on the tech, would be carried forward for games such as Elder Scrolls 6. Howard’s vague answer included a note that procedural generation has “always been a tool in our toolbox.” Ultimately, the wait for Elder Scrolls 6 goes on, something Howard acknowledged is a tough wait for fans. “We understand, hey, people are going to have to wait sometimes until we get some of these big things out,” he said. “We hope it’s worth the wait and everybody loves the games as much as we’ve loved making them.” In March, Bethesda celebrated the 30th birthday of The Elder Scrolls series by providing a brief update on The Elder Scrolls 6. “Last but not least, yes, we are in development on the next chapter - The Elder Scrolls 6,” Bethesda Game Studios said. “Even now, returning to Tamriel and playing early builds has us filled with the same joy, excitement, and promise of adventure." Bethesda announced The Elder Scrolls 6 in 2018, though Howard admitted in 2023 that he "would've announced it more casually" in hindsight. In October 2023, Bethesda's former design director predicted The Elder Scrolls 6 will keep Skyrim's levelling up and progression system. 4. Fans opening Counter-Strike 2 cases are a common sight at competitive tournaments. But in a surprising twist, Cloud9’s Mang0 opened one at Super Smash Bros. Melee Tipped Off 15. On June 16, the 32-year-old legend took to the stage at Tipped Off 15 in Marietta, Georgia for yet another Smash tournament semifinal in his career. While he was walking past the crowd, a fan asked him to open a CS2 case. Mang0 did so without hesitation and ******* loot anything valuable, but that was the last time he’d be unsuccessful for the tournament. View the full article
  5. Despite having been announced four whole years ago, it seems like we’re nowhere closer to playing State of Decay 3 now than we were then, but there’s something interesting going on behind the scenes that has many fans very excited. The zombie shooter management sim hybrid remerged days ago during the Xbox Showcase with an admittedly bland trailer about keeping a survivour’s memory alive and escaping near-****** situations. It wasn’t quite a gameplay trailer - even if it showed gameplay-adjacent moments using in-game assets. The big news, however, was tucked away in a development update that dropped after the show. Unfortunately, progress is slower than usual, and players are urging everyone on the battlefield to see their operations through. This means if there are three missions in the operation, you must complete them all. View the full article

  11. Playing MMOs solo can often be a difficult thing, but Blizzard is considering making it easier to play some of World of Warcraft's legacy raids alone. One of Final Fantasy 14's best features is easily its Duty Support system. This particular system allows players to go through main story dungeons without having to ****** to wait for other players, instead offering NPCs to help you out. It means you can just play it solo, if playing with others isn't your thing, or it can even just be helpful if you don't want to wait in queues because you're a DPS main and so is everybody else. The Duty Support system took a few years to work across all the expansions, but as of now, they all have it, making for a smoother experience. This isn't something present in most of fellow MMO World of Warcraft, but a similar feature is coming as part of the upcoming The War Within expansion. The War Within is set to introduce a "story mode" which lets you ****** the final bosses of the game's raids solo, so again you don't have to play with others if you don't want to. And in an interview with PC Gamer, game director Morgan Day hinted that such a feature might come to the game's legacy raids too. "In Shadowlands, we added 'Chromie Time,' where you can play past expansions to level up," Day said. "We always talk about the strength of World of Warcraft and how we have so much cool content, and how we can leverage that better. As we've seen with Remix, the team is trying new and different ideas to leverage that." Read more View the full article
  12. Elden Ring developer FromSoftware has asked fans to be mindful of Shadow of the Erdtree spoilers after details of the expansion leaked online. In a post on X/Twitter, FromSoftware asked fans not to spoil elements of the highly anticipated downloadable content, which launches June 21, 2024, after some with early access leaked the entire final boss ****** and more. "With the release of the expansion of Elden Ring, Shadow of the Erdtree, please be mindful of spoilers for those who want to tread into the Realm of Shadow with nothing but their determination and their minds unclouded," the post said. "Thank you for your cooperation." We won't reveal any details of the leaked content here, though as FromSoftware said, those looking forward to the two-years-in-the-making DLC should perhaps avoid social media and online discussions of Elden Ring in the remaining days before Shadow of the Erdtree launches. The DLC is set to add a wealth of new content to the beloved role-playing game. Just like previous FromSoftware games Dark Souls and Bloodborne, however, accessing the DLC isn't as simple as selecting it on a menu, as players must tick off a handful of obscure feats beforehand, including beating an optional boss. Thankfully, IGN has a guide on how to prepare for the Shadow of Erdtree DLC if you need to scramble ahead of the expansion's release. And make sure to check out our Elden Ring interactive map to ensure you're not missing any important collectibles. The new map, story, bosses, and items will add more intrigue to the almost mythical status of Elden Ring, which proved somewhat of a cultural phenomenon when it launched in 2022. Many fans are therefore waiting with bated breath for the release of Shadow of the Erdtree, which will likely add hundreds, if not thousands, of new secrets and story threads to be discovered. In fact, even its release date announcement drew hoards of players back to the Elden Ring. In our 10/10 review of the base game, IGN said: "Elden Ring is a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path." 14. The recent release of a creation club for Starfield - delivering content from Bethesda and modders for purchasable credits as the studio's previously done with Skyrim and Fallout 4 - drew a lot of backlash from players. Bethesda's Todd Howard has now addressed the controversy and indicated that the studio could be looking at making some changes to the initiative going forwards. If you're out of the loop, the big sticking point with this iteration of Bethesda's ever-polarising attempts to intergrate some form of add-on system that allows for 'paid mods' was the pricing, especially when it came to one Trackers Alliance quest. With that second quest based around the faction being behind the paywall, while the first Trackers Alliance mission was given out for free, some players were annoyed that it looked like they'd be paying a lot more for this and upcoming Trackers Alliance content than they might otherwise do if it was all released as one DLC pack. In an interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays, game director Todd Howard was asked about this controversy, and responded by suggesting the studio will be looking into potentially revising how it proces and packages creation club content in light of the backlash. 15. "Two's company, three's a crowd," the saying goes, unless the first two are warriors and the third one is a priest, in which case the superior proverb is surely "three's a moderately balanced squad, two's a massive liability"? Here to put such kitchen wisdom to the test is BioWare's Dragon Age: The Veilguard, which "only" allows you to bring two companions into the fray, one fewer than 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition. It's another indication that this will be more biffy action game than thinky party-based RPG. The upside, assuming you find that last sentence disappointing, is that exploration and combat will be more "intimate", and individual characters will have more screentime to bounce off each other and flourish as personalities. All this comes care of a BioWare Discord Q&A from late last week, which you can watch in full below. Read more View the full article

  17. League of Legends esports might soon be facing a scarcity of young, talented players at a grassroots level, and Gen.G’s CEO wonders the reasons behind its decline. “People in the know are getting pretty worried about the lack of talent pipeline for League, even in Korea,” Gen.G CEO Arnold Hur said on X (formerly Twitter) on June 17. “By talent pipeline, I mean at the ******** level, before they even get a CL [Challengers League] roster spot and become a star like Quid, Delight, or our very own Peyz,” reflecting the shortage of players isn’t restricted to a specific region. The issue is also present in Korea, a region with an impressive international tournament track record. View the full article

  22. Over the past few years, Atari has been completely revamping its portfolio by releasing new takes on classic games like Missile Command, Centipede, and Asteroids. The latest project in this endeavor is Yars Rising, a new take on a name that – despite its success in 1982 – likely won’t engender many nostalgic feelings nowadays. The team at WayForward seems to have understood this from the jump, however, as Yars Rising isn’t a new take on the original game; it’s a full-fledged Metroidvania that happens to involve the old Yars gameplay once in a while. It’s a bold and risky choice, but based on the hands-on time we got at Summer Game Fest, it’s one that may have paid off. The demo begins with a neat-looking motion comic cutscene, which lays the groundwork for who the main character Yars is and what she’s about. The comic format isn’t just a style choice; game director James Montagna tells us as we watch that the original game came packed with a comic as a means to tell its expanded lore, and the team wanted to honor that here. While the season started strong, players found a flaw in the new Breach Executable activity—and unfortunately, it’s nothing new for Destiny 2. But the game doesn’t tell you there are optional things you can do for extra loot. View the full article
  24. If you're looking forward to digging into Starfield's Shattered Space expansion when it arrives later this year, you're in luck, as Todd Howard's now confirmed that Bethesda's got a second bit of DLC plenned in to follow it. Also, it sounds like BGS has adopted an approach to Shattered Space that should deliver something which won't involve visits to a bunch of barren, boring moons. As its first proper trailer at the Xbox Showcase earlier this month confirmed, Shattered Space is all about House Va'ruun - the faction of giant space snake worshippers that a lot of folks were hoping the studio would do more with. While we'd gotten a taste of the overall theme, Howard's now provided some details as to what to expect from the expansion on a practical level. In an interview with YouTuber MrMattyPlays, the developer revealed that developement work began in earnest on Shattered Space once the studio had released the base game. He went on to outline that one of the things that Bethesda "liked about [the DLC] from the get-go" is that once you reach House Va'ruun's home planet, "the bulk" of the expansion takes place there.
