I have recently moved to an area that’s surrounded by forest, or at least, by swathes of greenery that feel like forests when you’re far enough inside them, even if they don’t meet whatever quantifiable definition is currently in vogue. My dreams are ablaze with scenes of sunlight percolating through shifting layers of beech and oak, with visions of dirt paths winding through bramble. Now, here comes Engraving to transform all those dreams into nightmares. Read more View the full article

Baldur's Gate 3 features a memorable selection of playable companions, but there's one that might have a better claim to being the proper protagonist than the rest. Like in a tabletop Dungeons & Dragons game, Baldur's Gate 3 places the emphasis on the group, and any of the Origin characters can be chosen as the principal playable option. It's also possible to create a custom character, and there's a good argument to be made that a custom character with the added narrative of the Dark Urge Origin is the most intentional protagonist option. The expansion dropped last Friday to tremendous critical acclaim, earning the highest review scores of any video game DLC in recorded history. With a Metacritic score of 93, expectations were understandably sky-high. And it seems the fans have matched that hype, sending Elden Ring's concurrent player count on Steam skyrocketing. Struggling to beat Radahn and Mohg, but desperate to play Shadow of the Erdtree? Some helpful Elden Ring players might be able to sort you out. One of the best things about Elden Ring, outside of the game, is the community itself. It's led to legends like Let Me Solo Her helping hundreds of players take down Malenia, one of the toughest bosses in the game, for one. The ability to summon other players is easily one of the most helpful parts about Elden Ring, as the right player can really come in clutch in a difficult boss ******. And now, as spotted by TheGamer, players are coming together on the r/BeyondTheFog subreddit to help those who really want to play the DLC, but can't quite manage to beat the prerequisite boss fights. There's plenty of players out there who haven't beaten Mogh, more than 60% of them on Steam in fact (thanks, GamesRadar), though most have fared a touch better against Radahn, where 54.5% of players have actually managed to beat the giant foe. So some players have taken to Reddit to offer help with the game's various foes, several other users asking for help with Mohg, Radahn, and the like. The subreddit is filled with other calls for help, as well as offers, so if you're someone that's currently stuck on either of the bosses required to play the DLC, that might be your best bet. The NYT Mini Crossword clue “cars ordered from one’s phone” can be tricky depending on your age. I first thought it was about calling to order a taxi, but it’s not. It’s something common to most people today. You should be able to figure it out quickly if you don’t drive and think about how you ordered a car the last time you needed a ride back home. Here are a few hints to help you, though you will probably find a solution rather quickly with just a few hints. View the full article
Today’s NYT Mini Crossword clue for “knick’s knack” was ******* than I expected. That’s why I’m here to help you solve it, since you probably need to give more attention to it than you are. View the full article
After you plunge into the chaotic depths of Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree, you find yourself entangled in the thorny mess of Needle Knight Leda’s questline. This act of heroism (or chaos, depending on your perspective) leads to Leda, the Needle Knight, questioning everyone’s loyalty. She’s particularly fixated on two suspects: Thiollier and the Hornsent. Now, she needs your sage advice to decide who should be weeded out. Yes, that’s medieval code for *********. In this guide, I’ll explore all choices and outcomes so you can decide whether you should suggest Thiollier or the Hornsent to Leda in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree. View the full article

Prime Video’s Fallout TV show ended with a clear nod to a much-loved Fallout video game, but there are still many questions left unanswered by Season 1. One thing we do know now is that a major character from the games — and who only makes a brief appearance in Season 1 — will play a part in Season 2. Warning: Spoilers for Fallout Season 1 follow. In an interview with Variety, showrunners Graham Wagner and Geneva Robertson-Dworet confirmed Robert House “will be involved” in Season 2. Fallout video game fans know Robert House as Mr. House, one of the main characters in Obsidian’s Fallout New Vegas. In that game, Mr. House runs New Vegas as a brain plugged into a supercomputer that has extended his existence from the pre-war era into the post-war era. Robert House makes a cameo appearance in the Fallout TV show during a pre-war scene in which the then RobCo Industries boss plots with Vault-Tec management and the heads of other companies to not only survive the inevitable nuclear apocalypse, but maybe even trigger it. “Many of our lead characters are Vegas-bound,” Wagner said. “Las Vegas in the world of Fallout is Robert House’s town. Robert House will be involved in Season 2.” Season 1 ends with a Power Armor-clad Overseer Hank stomping towards New Vegas, with The Ghoul and Lucy MacLean in hot pursuit. Wagner’s tease suggests newly knighted Brotherhood of Steel member Maximus will also end up in New Vegas. All roads, then, lead to a post-apocalyptic showdown on what's left of The Strip. The question is, what form will Robert House take in Season 2? Will the TV show follow New Vegas’ lead and have the character star as a 200-year-old consciousness kept alive by machines? Or will the showrunners come up with some other way to have Robert House knocking about Vegas during this point in the Fallout timeline? After all, the mystery of how New California Republic chief Moldaver survived for over 200 years ******** unresolved. As the showrunners have said before, they would have loved to have squeezed Fallout’s iconic Deathclaw into Season 1, but couldn’t manage it due to having to establish the world. But deathclaws are also confirmed for Season 2, and like so much of Fallout Season 1, they won’t be CGI. “To be honest, the deathclaw is an element we were troubled by not finding the right space for it in season one, and we very deliberately wanted to box ourselves in,” Wagner admitted. “And sometimes, as writers, you do that. You set yourself a challenge and you just say, ‘Well, now we got to. “So, that actually has helped us a lot because we’re already developing ways, iterating ways to actually get the deathclaw up on its feet. Make it the most cool and impactful thing and it actually has given us the runway so we’re not just delivering a script and saying, ‘Oh, ****, there’s a deathclaw.’ It’s like, ‘We know there is a deathclaw, so get ready.; These things take a lot of iterating, a lot of time to do it and to do it right versus just having it be a CG squiggle running across the screen.” I like taking side trips and just exploring something that was mentioned in passing and making a thing out of it. The final tease comes from Walton Goggins, who expertly plays Ghoul/Cooper. He suggested the Ghoul will once again get side-tracked in Season 2, as he did while dragging Lucy around the wasteland in Season 1. “There are mysteries from Season 1, there are things that seem benign but may carry weight in Season 2, and things that are worth dedicating an episode to that seem outside of the overall trajectory of this experience. I like taking side trips and just exploring something that was mentioned in passing and making a thing out of it. And I know Graham and Geneva and Jonah [Nolan] are down for that too. So we’ll see what happens.” Fans have plenty of theories about the Snake Oil Salesman’s mysterious serum, for example. To keep you going until Season 2, be sure to check out IGN’s wide-ranging, spoiler-filled interview with Bethesda Game Studios executive Todd Howard and executive producer and director Jonathan Nolan. Pokémon Go’s current event is about hatching eggs to find rare Pokémon, including Shiny Larvesta, which is the main highlight of this event. As you might expect, having an event around RNG for a chance of getting something that has a slight chance of appearing isn’t sitting well with trainers in the community, with Larvesta alone being hard to find in every egg that hatches. Enlarge (credit: Aurich Lawson | Id | GDC) [/url] John Romero remembers the moment he realized what the future of gaming would look like. In late 1991, Romero and his colleagues at id Software had just released Catacomb 3-D, a crude-looking, EGA-******** first-person shooter that was nonetheless revolutionary compared to other first-person games of the time. "When we started making our 3D games, the only 3D games out there were nothing like ours," Romero told Ars in a recent interview. "They were lockstep, going through a maze, do a 90-degree turn, that kind of thing." Despite Catacomb 3-D's technological advances in first-person perspective, though, Romero remembers the team at id followed its release by going to work on the next entry in the long-running Commander Keen series of 2D platform games. But as that process moved forward, Romero told Ars that something didn't feel right Read 20 remaining paragraphs | Comments View the full article
Finding hidden items in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is a thrilling puzzle because the game doesn’t bother to tell you where to use them—of course. You won’t get handy instructions in the item description or a map marker to point you in the right direction in Elden Ring. The Prayer Room Key is a special item that unlocks a secret questline in the game, but finding this item and knowing where to use it is so tricky you might as well just return to The Lands Between. In this guide, I’ll show you how to get and use the Prayer Room Key in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree to claim your rewards. View the full article

If you're among the many Fallout fans still eagerly awaiting Fallout: London's arrival now that we know the team's locked in a new release date, a new Fallout 4 mod might just be the perfect thing to help pass the time. After all, who doesn't fancy a new island to explore? While it's usually the ******* projects that grab the headlines, especially when we get big progress updates or learn that things have hit an unexpected snag, Fallout 4's modding community puts out slightly smaller scale stuff that's well worth checking out on the regular. Sometimes a huge addition isn't feasible, but a cool quest or well-made new location can be just as much fun. Enter 'Boon Island', the first part of a new series of mods from Tenhats and Shreddah4 dubbed "Isles Of New England". As you might imagine given that title, the pair are adding a bunch of new islands - inspired by real life locations in a similar fashion to the base game's Far Harbor - to Fallout 4, with the first one being Maine's Boon Island. Among Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree's more fearsome bosses is the Dancing Lion, a festive prancing ******* inspired by ******** Lion dances. Looking at it, you might expect this costumed nuisance to be another grafted abomination, its layers of papier-mache, binbags and repurposed carpets hiding a rippling quilt of flesh and bone, perhaps a real lion that has been shaved and stitched to its theatrical double. The truth is more appalling still: it's just two guys in a lion suit. They aren't even sewn together mouth to backside, like in the Human Centipede. Way to bait-and-switch, From! One of the developers of Steam and Xbox hit Palworld has teased the release of a PlayStation version. Pocketpair community chief Bucky tweeted adding blue-******** hearts to Palworld’s existing ****** (PC), green (Xbox), and white (Mac) hearts. Blue is, of course, the ****** of PlayStation branding. With this context, a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 release now seems likely. Palworld I want to add more hearts, but not sure what colour would fit...hmm...how about.... Palworld Looks good I think! — Bucky | Palworld (@Bucky_cm) June 22, 2024 Palworld, dubbed ‘Pokémon with Guns,’ launched in early access form in January 2024 on PC via Steam and on Xbox as a day-one Game Pass title. It saw enormous popularity overnight, becoming one of the biggest game launches of all time. But it’s also one of the most controversial. Pocketpair has said its staff has received ****** threats amid Pokémon "rip-off" claims, which it has denied. Soon after launch, Nintendo moved quickly to remove an eye-catching Pokémon mod, then The Pokemon Company issued a statement, saying: "We intend to investigate and take appropriate measures to address any acts that infringe on intellectual property rights related to Pokémon." IGN asked lawyers whether Nintendo could successfully sue. Player numbers have tailed off in the last half year, but the addition of a PS5 version would certainly provide Palworld with a shot in the arm. Whether Nintendo would greenlight a release on Switch is another matter entirely, of course. Meanwhile, Palworld gets a major new update this week, called Sakurajima. It increases the level cap, adds new Pals, a new raid, a new faction and boss, and a whole new island. This update also comes with Xbox-dedicated servers, something the game had conspicuously lacked up to this point. IGN’s Palworld early access review returned an 8/10. We said: “Palworld may crib quite a bit from Pokémon’s homework, but deep survival mechanics and a hilarious attitude make it hard to put down – even in early access.” Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN.
