If you loved cutting bits of fruit and riding a jetpack on your phone, then you'll love… collecting treasure from procedurally generated undersea, eldritch-horror filled caves. Remember Fruit Ninja? It was a simple, very arcadey sort of game that was all the rage in the distant year of two thousand and ten, a time when mobile games were more tiny timewasters rather than full-blown experiences. The creator of that game, Luke Muscat, later went on to make another very popular mobile title, Jetpack Joyride, a game with a little bit more substance than slicing up your five a day, again a replayable, arcadey kind of game. Neither of them would likely be very popular today unfortunately, as it's a lot more difficult to have a breakout mobile hit, not to mention certain genres dominating digital storefronts. One such genre is roguelikes, and funnily enough, Muscat has actually made one such game, Feed the Deep, a horror roguelite all about exploring deepsea caves (thanks, GamesRadar). "Feed the Deep is a compulsive lovecraftian roguelike inspired by the likes of Dome Keeper and Spelunky," the game's about section on Steam explains. "***** into an ever-changing system of undersea caves. Collect resources that can be traded for upgrades and items. Explore ever deeper, managing dark spaces, limited oxygen, and hostile wildlife, and complete your mission to Feed the Deep." Muscat also notes that this new title was "built almost entirely" on their own, as a "couple of years ago I decided I wanted to try the ultimate game dev challenge and make a game completely solo." The director of Cyberpunk 2077's sequel was apparently convinced he was getting fired right up to being asked to lead the follow-up. Cyberpunk 2077 lead quest designer Pawel Sasko is currently set to direct the controversial RPG's as-of-yet untitled sequel, an obviously big task that surely comes with on stresses (we all remember the state it launched in). But before Sasko even had the chance to experience those stresses, he had another one to deal with first. The CD Projekt Red developer recently spoke on the Flow Games podcast, where he spoke about whether or not he wanted to stay at the studio, or move on to something else (thanks, GamesRadar). "When you work in one company for a long time, there's always this moment where your career is kind of in the crossroads, and you're thinking 'should I enter another really big project with this company, or should I look for somewhere else to maybe learn new things?'" Sasko said on the podcast. It should be made clear that this wasn't a serious thought, because he "[loves] this company too much" but he did ask himself the question nonetheless. After all, he did end up being asked to move to the US to help start CD Projekt Red's new Boston-based studio to work on the sequel, which he described as being "given a chance of starting something new, but you're still in the same company." If you're looking for a (very) heavy dose of nostalgia, the newly announced side-scrolling beat-'em-up The Karate ****: Street Rumble should do the trick. Got a classic 80s movie? Need to make a video game based on it but don't want to push the boat out when it comes to imagination? How about making a beat-'em-up! That's exactly what GameMill Entertainment has announced with The Karate ****: Street Rumble, a new 16-bit-styled (key word being styled there) title that is taking the 80s classic and turning it into a common genre of the era. As revealed on IGN, the game will let you play as Daniel Russo, Mr. Miyagi, Kumiko, or Ali Mills, and you'll be able to face off against the series' villains including Johnny Lawrence, John Kreese, Terry Silver, and others. It was specifically mentioned that it's set in the 1980s too, though, that point seems slightly moot given literally everything about the game. The game is obviously riffing on more modern beat-'em-ups like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, which came out in 2022 and was met with a generally favourable response. You can check out the trailer for Street Rumble above, which mostly does just look like your standard beat-'em-up. Perhaps the full game will have a bit more to offer, but right off the bat apart from the colourful sprites, it doesn't look like it will be doing all that much. Read more View the full article

A new questline introduced by Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree proves that one of the base game's endings is even worse than it seems. Elden Ring's endings are, on the whole, pretty ambiguous. While it's easy enough to tell which is Elden Ring's worst ending, even those that seem positive on the surface hide negative implications beneath, and vice versa. Players don't really find out what happened to the Lands Between after the events of base Elden Ring's story; they only learn where the Tarnished ended up, and are left to imagine the rest. Some of Baldur's Gate 3's boss fights can actually be pretty tough, but even in the most challenging scenarios, there are usually one or two ways to turn the situation to the party's advantage. A healthy dose of randomness can still swing things against even the most prepared party, but with a bit of luck, it's usually possible to push through. View the full article
