I'm not sure it's physically or metaphysically possible to overfeed the Maw, but this week we put that desperate daydream to the test. There aren't any mega-sequels in the offing, none of yer Call Of Dutifuls, just an absolute deluge of neat and nifty originals - a deluge of such proportions I have been forced to unsheathe my HTML hammer and smash the customary single paragraph of PC game releases in twain. Sony has extended the Concord early access beta by a day. The early access beta, which Sony had opened up to all PlayStation Plus subscribers, was meant to end on July 14. It now runs to Monday, July 15, at 12pm PDT, 9pm CEST, 4am JST. The open beta is still set to run from July 18 to July 21, unless Sony decides to extend that too. Players have got stuck in to the Concord early access beta over the weekend, and it seems to have gone down well with PlayStation 5 players. The early access beta is also available on PC via Steam only to those who have pre-ordered. There, the beta saw a peak concurrent player count of 1,124, set three days ago. At the time of this article’s publication, 150 were playing the Concord beta on Steam. It’s not great numbers for Firewalk’s 5v5 multiplayer hero shooter on Valve’s platform, but this weekend, when the beta will be truly open to all across PS5 and PC, we’ll get a clearer idea of interest. During the beta, all 16 of the launch Freegunners (player characters) are unlocked and available to play and customize. Here’s what you can play in the Concord early access weekend: Four maps: Freewater, Star Chamber, Water Hazard, Shock RiskThree modes: Cargo Run, Clash Point, Trophy HuntAll 16 Freegunners This weekend’s open beta includes all the early access content plus new map Bone Mines and mode Area Control. It’s worth noting early access and open beta progress carries over between the weekends, but progress from either beta will not carry over to the official launch on August 23. As for rewards, you get the Frog ******* Charm (Frog stands for “From Orbit to Ground” and is the name of the Northstar’s drop ship), a Star Flare Icon, and Business Card for taking part. Last month, Sony said Concord’s $39.99 price point “provides the full experience." Following Concord's divisive reveal during Sony's State of Play showcase in May, some had wondered whether the live service hero shooter would release in free-to-play form. Confirming Concord launches in both physical and digital standard editions for $39.99 / £34.99 / €39.99, Pam Piscitello, director of marketing and operations at developer Firewalk, said in a post on the PlayStation Blog that this full experience includes all 16 playable characters, 12 maps set on various worlds, and six team-based modes. This will expand shortly after launch with regular, post-launch updates for all players at no additional cost, Piscitello added. Wesley is the *** News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. A new ESRB rating for The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom revealed players will get to play as both Zelda and Link. During June 2024’s Nintendo Direct, fans were pleasantly surprised to learn a new The Legend of Zelda game is coming soon. Even more surprising was that players would play as Zelda, not Link. While many of us are slowly preparing to conjure furniture and capture monsters, an ESRB rating indicated Link would also be a playable character (thanks Eurogamer). View the full article

An early, mid-development image of BioShock 4 has reportedly been shared online, showing an early glimpse at the 2K sequel’s UI design. The image – published by MP1ST – is said to originate from a work reel belonging to a 2K visual effects artist, which hasn’t been linked to protect their privacy. Notably, the image features the codename ‘Parkside’, which was referenced by journalist Colin Moriarty back in 2021, in which he revealed alleged details on the new BioShock game, including its setting. Every so often, a game comes along that's able to make its case in just a few seconds of gameplay. SCHiM, developed by Ewoud van der Wouf and Nils Slijkerman and published by Playism, fits this mold perfectly. Focusing on the idea of jumping from shadow to shadow, SCHiM sets up light platforming and puzzle elements in a world that only ever has a couple of colors on screen. It's a fun, creative concept that can sometimes really shine, but the game isn't always operating at its highest potential. View the full article
Lots of games use frogs as a means to appeal to those who believe they are cute, me being one of those people. The humble croaker dominates the wholesome category, where they take centre stage in farming sims or as detectives or as green lads who hop over platforms and hurt enemies by lashing them with their tongues. Schim is different: you play as a frog of the shadows, not some green attention-seeker. And in a mundane world of vibrant colour, you're to bounce between patches of shade in search of a human pal whose shadow you've been unwittingly severed from. What ensues is a charming puzzler of both freedom and flow, which genuinely has you view everyday environments through the googly eyes of a phantom amphibian. It's a lovely thing, if perhaps not as emotionally charged as it implies early on. Read more View the full article
